Background: I bought both the early access game about three weeks after launch, and after playing, a second copy for an alternate account for skill/crafting access. Between the two, I have over 500 hours of playtime on Atlas, and around 3,300 on Ark. Ark and Atlas are games that require a commitment, and a certain level of trust towards the server operators that effort will be relatively persistent. Some servers advertise high gather rates and scheduled wipes, for instance, to cater to that kind of player. It is assumed that official servers are (relatively) persistent by a playerbase. If the changes incorporated in the March update was in any way known at the time of purchase, making the game effectively PVE(VP), I would never have purchased the game, much less a second copy of it, and never burned those hours of my life soldering through all the glitches and bugs that this game so frustratingly offers. I bought what was advertised and sold as a PVP game. Period. I've solo farmed several ships all the way including a mystic galleon, and I've lost most of those ships to griefing, so no, I'm not a "free looter". That is precisely why I play, as I take losses I've progressed, and the risk is what keeps me coming back. That's how mature gamers stay with a PVP mmo, and I bought the game knowing I would take those losses. So did everyone else, only some people think it just "wouldn't happen to them" much like they think they will never die. This update is being forced upon, and at the cost of, the people who (were) committed to playing, in deference to those who never did. The game is radically being redesigned in a way that was never advertised, and to which I would never have purchased. It is becoming two game modes, PVE and PVE(vp). In fairness, you need to make refunds an option so that your existing player-base can freely and peacefully exit on good terms, and you can continue going down whatever radically new development path you choose to satisfy all your non-players. I find this necessary to post on your forums as apparently the game is modeled entirely around complaints made on your forums. I was sold two copies of a game you are no longer developing, and to which you will be wiping all content. Please make this an option to be fair to your existing, dedicated player base. Either way, I'm out effective today, the difference is in the perception your company retains moving forward, hopefully we can depart on good terms. Sincerely, Foxtrot

I've never seen a company as tone deaf as Grapeshot. You literally have hundreds of suggestions on the forums and reddit - some good, some bad, some feasible, some impossible...and this is what you give us? You guys manage to do literally the exact opposite of what the majority of your player base wants, damn near every time. People LIKED the claim system due to it stopping the griefing that was so prevalent in Ark. What they didn't like was that a couple companies could take over the whole map and not leave any room for anyone. Instead of limiting PVE claims to a reasonable number, like you are in PVP, even 10-20 per company, you get rid of the PVE claim system entirely, and leave everyone open to foundation/pillar spam griefing, resource blocking, ship blocking, etc - with the added kick in the teeth that its not Ark - if there are douchebags who pillar/foundation the most desirable areas to stop anyone from having them, you can't just find another server with a lower assclown ration. You're even adding over 200 new islands for people to pillar and spam to unusableness. You have a pissed off playerbase, with a lot of time on their hands. Do you really think that a portion of them aren't going to make life as miserable as possible for anyone who attempts to keep playing? If you would re-think this to something like limit claims to 10 per company, 20 per company with at least 25 members, and 50 per company with 50+ members, as well as opening the 200 new islands, and even open lawless to be claimable, that would open more than enough land for anyone currently playing, and anyone who wants to play in the future. People didn't want to be tenants because they had 0 protections against landlords pulling their build rights, which killed that dead in the water. Instead of fixing it so that people had a reason to be tenants, with basic protections, it turned into 'Nope, burn it all down..." People wanted to be able to trade easily and efficiently, for all kinds of goods, taking all kinds of payments. They wanted reasons to go visit other people's lands, they wanted to give people a reason to visit their land, and reasons to go to far off lands, acquire goods, and easily re-sell them to their neighbors for profit. Nope, you get vendors in freeport, for gold only. People didn't want the wipe, due to discovery points, etc. Bases, resources, blueprints, etc...yeah, they suck to get and rebuild. Instead of just a land and item wipe, Nope, clean slate. - this isn't as bad as the others, but, still going to cost more players than just the land/item wipe would have. This has been a consistent theme, all the way back to the ship weight griefing. People wanted their ships to be safe when they logged off, and suggested that if the ship was at anchor, it wouldn't take overweight damage. Nope, we get magic fly traps. Yeah, I know, these are all PVE concerns, because thats mainly where I play, but I know that the PVP side is just as pissed about having to pencil wars in their date book, among other things. The people who compared the games trajectory to No Mans Sky, or Rust, saying that "Oh, Grapeshot said they're listening to the players now. They're going to turn it around.", aren't doing that so much any more. I'm kinda scared to see what the Steam review are going to look like going forward. When we asked you to listen to the players, we didn't mean to listen to what we were saying, and decide to implement the opposite, or the most half-ass way of what we were asking for.

The more I read this release and rewatch the stream more I understand the dev team simply has no clue what they are doing. Please do the following steps... #1 Hire a real PR department. #2 Hire in content creators. Do not in any way suggest anything, just build that is your only job. #3 Do not ever listen to your own advice, it has a 99% chance of not working like you want it to. Your track record is proof. This game can be something amazing. Please stop killing it because you are blind.

I really wish you would allow claim flags for PVE. This sounds like basically all of our servers will be like lawless. That means that people can come in and kill out spawns or prevent you from building by blocking and then there is the fact on lawless rocks and trees will spawn through the foundations. I really do hope you rethink PVE version of this. I feel we are getting crapped on.

Um no we dont need to chill, Im glad PVP is going to be great for you. Please dont diminish what we want from a game. We want to play PVE not PVP. We want it to work and we are trying to get the devs to understand that the updates they are putting is are not right for PVE. its good to see someone happy, as very few are. So enjoy your play style while we, or I try to see if we will ever enjoy PVE again.

First off Devs.....great work. I have to admit, you guys are absolutely making the correct changes. Not all will work, but I truly believe after watching this stream we are in good hands. I hope you guys weren't watching chat during it. Ive never seen so many trolls in one chat in my life. Second, keep pushing into MMO territory. This game has an absolute amazing chance at being the end all for MMO/PVP. The war system is also very intelligent. We all need to keep in mind we are still a year and a half away from coming out of early access so there will be a lot of re balancing to come. The wipe is also 100% reasonable considering the massive changes. Anyone complaining about it honestly is ridiculous. This is Early Access. Not the third year post release. Keep up the good work Devs!

Please re-consider this system wich is planned for march. Lower it per member or something, it is fun to do and nice to have 1 or 2. PATCH NOTES: "There will be a hard limit on the total number of claim flags." So, on PvP it's possible and this has been thought thru. Now give us PvE players also an option OR let admins have a real job by letting them destroy loose pillars/foundations/griefers/hackers/exploits. This is where and why the majority of players take off to other games.

I absolutely refuse to believe that people are so naive that they thought there would not be multiple wipes throughout early access. Its a two year development process. You knew this when signing up. Demanding no wipes, demanding increased rates post wipe, all of it, just stop. This is part of the development and testing process. If it is 10x after every wipe, there is no testing of levelling rates. If you cant handle this, wait for 2 years for launch and then you get to be amazed at what will feel like a totally different game by then.

So this is likely to be thread 9964+ on the back end of last nights stream but I am truly at a loss. The outrage that came across in the stream chat and the blissful ignorance shown by Jat, a hipster and someones grand dad. You do have to wonder if they are intentionally trying to kill their game. My take / feedback - Wipe: I don't like it but I get it, character wipe seems a little excessive but I assume they have a good reason for it. To state that it will be done at some stage this month is just stupid on so many levels, I mean seriously what is the point in playing atm. Oh right we get an ugly looking hat. If you plan to wipe then just do it in the next few days tops, to delay it and expect people to want to continue playing during that period is ridiculous. Underwater Trench + Sub: Why? I mean seriously just why? Its a bloody pirate game, at no stage do I remember anyone asking for a Sub or the ability to visit some poor mans Atlantis. Its been stated so many times but I need reiterate just in case it was missed during the last brain storming session over at Grapeshot - FIX STUFF FIRST then add more content. New claim system: I remember saying that you would break it before you fix it in another thread but wow you really went above and beyond to screw this up. I could scream and rant at how bad this entire cluster f**k of and idea is but that would be pointless. All you had to do was remove sea claims and limit land claims but no that would be to simple right? Instead you're gonna over complicate PVP and take a giant crap on PVE. Claim flags have been one of the few good things in this game, the biggest downside being they were not limited but instead were heading to Ark 2.0 with foundation / pillar spam on 60%+ of land. And I'm saying 60% because you're gonna lose a lot off your dwindling player base with these changes. Guillotine + Cosmetics: Pointless and a gimmick at best. Side note wtf is up with the cosmetics, outside of the peg leg and hook I want to look like a bloody pirate. The skins your all excited about look stupid.

I don't know what you guys are drinking, Jat, but I'll have a double. I can't comment on the pvp changes. Well, I could if I sat and thought it through carefully, but why bother? Nobody else seems to be doing that. The pve changes are insane. They're especially nutty as you claim you're tying to help small companies, solos, casuals, etc. In order of importance: Claims - Everybody seems to be freaking most about the wipe, but seriously, that's not the worst thing happening here. The wipe is hard to take, but if a player came back to something really great, most would get over that. You know all those nice pictures that show up in the contest you have, where people have built beautiful unique bases? Kiss that shit goodbye, because you'll never see it again. **You'd think one of you guys could just take a few minutes and pop into a few locations in lawless and have a look around. Most of them are ugly as hell, people are fighting with each other for every inch of space, putting down posts and foundations and bigass ugly thatch walls. They are throwing up temporary crap everywhere and walling off each other's resources , ships and access routes. Resources spawn right through anything built there.** Pve players are unhappy if they can't find a claim and are forced to live in Lawless, so your response is to do away with claims and make everybody live in Lawless. Brilliant. Can't wait to see all your new promo shots of players living in what looks like the town dump. That's your vision for pve? That's how a great game looks to you? Come on, that's amateur hour. It's obvious you gave up on the pve servers when you did that. Just put up a big ol' billboard that says, "Here's what's left over from our real sandbox. You can use it if you want. Oh, the cat's been in there, but don't mind that." All you had to do was limit claims. That with the extra islands would have given everyone a shot at a nice base. Dumbest ...move....ever. New content - The video looks very nice. Too bad the smalls/solos/casuals will never get to see it. Seriously, wtf are you guys thinking? You want to help that group and the only attractive thing about this update gets locked behind the kraken? Server wipe - I won't comment on whether you needed to do a full server wipe, just wipe the map and claims or how that could have worked, but you know server wipes piss off a lot of people. So disregarding the pvp changes, let's recap what this announcement means to pve players: There's going to be a server wipe and you will lose all your progress and accomplishments. But don't worry. When you come back, it'll be wonderful because 1. You'll have to live on lawless with no building restrictions (Edit): And your new crappy spot will decay and you'll have to pay upkeep for that dump. 2. There will be great new content which many of you will never see That's some fabulous sell job there, guys. It would take some real geniuses on Madison Ave. a good number of 4 martini lunches to come up with something that brilliant. Congratulations.

So some of the changes announced after wipe definitely seem likely to be improvements for small groups, but the decision to gate the new underwater content behind the kraken is a head scratcher. To start with, as a development/testing decision, why in the world would you want to gate your newest content during an Early Access period behind an endgame boss? What percentage of your playerbase do you expect will ever successfully unlock said content? My personal experience of 15 years playing MMO's of this type suggests less than half. Moreover, what percentage will unlock it within 60 days of a total wipe? I'm gonna offer as a hypothesis that the percentage of the playerbase who are members of large companies focused on doing endgame content will correlate to an overwhelming degree with the unlock percentage, which is to say far less than half. Do you want a significant percentage of your playerbase to actually test your new content or not? If the answer is yes than gating that content behind a final boss is boneheaded. Period. If the answer is no, then why put it in in the first place? Beyond how nonsensical this decision is from a testing perspective, it goes completely against the idea of making your game more accessible to smaller groups. The development team has the back end data sure, but are you REALLY telling us that you looked at the data for how many and which companies completed the kraken to date and it wasn't some miniscule percentage consisting almost entirely of some of the largest companies? I do not have access to the data myself, but this notion is one I am highly skeptical of. If that is what the data shows, then this decision further puts smaller groups in a have not category.

You are forgetting that not everyone wants to sail for 5 minutes and get blasted out of the water. Some of us actually like to casually sail around looking for discovery points without getting murdered. Some of us like to breed animals without worrying about them getting murdered the second the 9 hour window opens up. The list goes on and on and none of it fits in with PvP. The real solution is to allow the claim system to carry over to PvE so we can claim land without paying upkeep on our buildings. It will be impossible to maintain the large (and beautiful) structures that people have been building on PvE simply because the upkeep will be to high for everyone except the biggest companies that have tons and tons of slaves farming for them. We also need a way to get rid of trolls that come in and block resources with foundations since that is exactly what will happen when this goes live - trolls will ruin everyone elses time.

I for one am grateful for the wipe! Sure, it sucks!! But it’s needed. The underlying game mechanics meant there was no other way to alter them without a wipe. The current mechanics simply couldn’t accommodate both PVP and PVE communities. Do something for one, you hurt the other. Now they can separate them. The game was already dying with no way to sort it. The wipe is their last ditch attempt to save it. It may work, it may not! But persevering with the previous system and its limitations was a guaranteed death sentence.

The idea of needing to beat the Kraken to gain access to content is also extremely flawed and will not be received well in the community. You basically just told every small company or solo in the entire game or future players they will never be able to play the new content do to various issues with powerstones, their islands, or the fact that they do not have the ability to win that battle on their own. Why punish your community with your own greed to force players to either play with a larger company or play other games. Foolish idea again not thought out.

Is it to late to get our money back from Steam? This will ruin PvE
  17. 5 points
PvE just got told they don't matter and to play PvP or basically go away. I have no clue who in this dev group is in charge of actually ensuring ideas are well thought out, but they need a lot of help since they obviously do not understand the game or the way it is played.

Server wipe is fine, if end result is better than before. An all build map is a horrible idea. They are assuming that the upkeep will keep out the foundation spams...its not. entire map will be lawless zones.

Ahoy Pathfinders! This Captain’s Log will go into some of the finer details of what we shared during our livestream earlier today. If you didn’t have a chance to watch it, you can check out the full VOD here, which also includes live gameplay of some of the upcoming features: In previous logs, we stated that we would be visiting some major design aspects of the game which make it more accessible for smaller groups and solo players, along with reducing the steep climb necessary to experience some of the later game content. There is a lot that we want to do over the coming months, and this update will be the first of many to help resolve these problems. However, before we get into that, we’d like to talk about something pretty important. Official Network wipe Please note that this wipe will not be forced on Unofficial Servers, however the old claim flags will disappear and you’ll have to replace them or allow them to naturally populate. With the release of this first milestone, we will be wiping all our Official Networks. This is not a decision we’ve taken lightly, however we believe based on a number of reasons that this will be the best move for the game, moving forward. First of all, the changes we are planning for this update are huge. We are completely redesigning the world layout, introducing new island types and biomes, adding new playable areas beneath and upon the ocean along with completely revamping the claim system. Due to the impact of these changes, we believe a wipe is the best course of action so that you can experience the update in a fresh environment, without being influenced by any of our legacy or deprecated code. The wipe will allow us to see whether the changes we’re making are heading in the right direction, or whether we need to sit back as a team and further adjust our design for the game. We believe that these systems, which we’re going to discuss in more detail, are some of the most important and core aspect of ATLAS. Using your feedback, insight, and creativity, we want to build on the foundation of the game throughout Early Access and we’re willing to make the changes necessary, no matter how large, to get them to work. Whether that means more content, complete redesigns, or wiping the network when big changes have come in. Secondly, since ATLAS launched as an Early Access title, there have been a number of bugs, exploits, and patches made to the game that have had a significant impact on the state of the persistent world. A number of players have benefited or have suffered grievances due to these various since-fixed issues, whether they were taking advantage of crafting exploits, alpha babies, duping, or had their boats sunk by Gatling Ship of the Damned. As such, being a game that is focused on players building an empire, claiming and ruling over what’s theirs, and being the hero or villain they were meant to be; we believe that a wipe is necessary to put everyone back on an even playing field. Furthermore, we’ve been a little more soft in some cases when it came to players taking advantage of these game exploits. After the first wipe has taken place in March, that will no longer be the case. We will still prioritize fixing issues/bugs/exploits, so we encourage you to work with us when you’ve discovered something that could be exploitable. That is our mandate, fixing and resolving game problems, however we’ll be taking a more firm stance against the serious cases where a company has used an exploit without coming forward which could result in company-wide and or alliance-wide punishments. Finally, at the end of March, when this update drops, we’ll be commiserating those of you who have taken part in ATLAS’ first iteration. We’ll be rewarding all players who have ever logged into Official ATLAS prior to the wipe with a special cosmetic item that you’ll be able to keep post-wipe. Please keep an eye out for our announcements for when the deadline is, so you can be sure to get the cosmetic! March milestone With this patch, the team have a number of primary and secondary objectives. With our primary and biggest changes we hope to address the following: Players not being able to find land to build a base on both PvP and PvE Offline Raiding Incentivizing large companies to work with smaller and solo groups Players not being able to connect/spawn on a server We recognize that these aren’t the only aspects of ATLAS which need to improve. There are problems with the new player experience, how punishing it is to recover after you’ve been defeated, server performance during large epic battles, viability of creatures, weapons, boat builds, etc. The list can go on and these are things which we plan to address, and more in the coming months ahead. This patch, however, will primarily be focused on the points we mentioned above, and will hit our PTR/Test Live Environment a week before it makes its way onto the main game, so you’ll be able to get an early look at it and experience it on that network. Please let us know your thoughts about this upcoming update, we value your feedback and insight. We don’t claim to be omniscient, and you may raise attention to something we hadn’t considered which will either result in us adjusting the design further, or we’ll consider how to tackle those concerns at a future date. claim revamp and war system General Rules Players can now build anywhere, without owning a Settlement (an island which has been claimed). An island which has been claimed is now known as a Settlement. Only one claim flag can be placed per island, and the owner (player/company) is the owner of that Settlement. There will be a hard limit on the total number of claim flags. Islands are given a rank based on their location, size and how valuable they are. These rankings will be used to determine upkeep, as well as identify the Top 10 Companies which will be a sum of all the islands that Company has claimed. Structures that are built on islands that are not Settlements can be raided at any moment. Fog of War and Shroud of War have been eliminated, so the entire ATLAS will be shown to everyone. World Map will now show the name of an Island (which can be changed by Settlement owners), who a Settlement is owned by, the current tax rate, and the current war status of the island. Islands will have colored overlay for ownership (Owned by you, an ally, or non-ally). Company Updates NPC crew on offensive/defensive seated structures will no longer count towards the tame limit whilst seated. Company limit has been reduced to 250 members Group ranks have now been increased to 10 Alliance changes will now be logged in the Company Log You can now sort the Company log to display entries from top to bottom A new group setting which can grant ‘owner’ permission for company members, which can only be set by the owner and unset by the owner. Members with the ‘owner’ permission will not be able to remove the actual Company Owner from the company. An alliance now only contains a maximum of 4 companies A company can only be in 2 different alliances at a time. Claim Flags Sea Claim Flags have been eliminated Claim flags can no longer be used to steal structure ownership on land Claim flags can no longer be merged into other companies There will be a hard limit on the total number of claim flags per company. For example, 20. Numbers can be adjusted. A claim flag cannot be placed without a tax bank. Claiming an island will take a fixed amount of time plus an additional amount per claim flag owned. For example, 1 hour to claim and +1 hour per owned claim flag. Numbers can be adjusted. Declaiming will always take a fixed amount of time. For example, 2 hours. Numbers can be adjusted. Claim Flag Upkeep Claim Flags now have an upkeep cost which is paid from the tax bank The upkeep cost will be an assortment of resources. The upkeep cost will scale on the size of the island, the total number of claim flags a company has, and how many different companies/players are building on the island. Players can only place items into a tax bank that go towards upkeep Claim Flag will have a grace period after successful claim to allow resources to gather in a tax bank before upkeep is charged The claim flag will visualize if the upkeep will not be met, so players are able to contribute directly to the Tax Bank. The Tax Bank will now stack resources like a ship resource box. Settlements Settlement owners must set a window of vulnerability, currently set to 9 hours, where their island is raidable. Outside of this window, players, structures and ships will not take damage from other players. There will be a timer on players before they receive the invulnerability status. Anchored boats or docked boats will follow these same rules, if they are in the radius of a Settlement Non-settlement owners who have cannons on ships and are anchored shall not be allowed to fire cannons outside of wartime. Settlement owners can freely damage other characters and structures on their island. Settlement owners can set taxes on their island which will automatically be deposited into the Tax Bank Structures that are built on a Settlement which do not belong to the Settlement Owner will have a decay timer. Player Run shops which are placed on islands can also be taxed by Settlement owners Declaring War Players can purchase a war token (significant cost) which can be used to declare war on an island. When war is declared on an island, players must select a schedule time in the future (3 days to 1 week) Only one war can be scheduled at once There is a cooldown after a war has ended before another war could be declared on that island Declaring war is per-island, so it is possible to declare war against multiple islands at the same time. The UI will indicate whether an island is experiencing Wartime soon or is currently in Wartime. Wars will last a fixed period of time When an island has been deemed warlike, building rules no longer apply. After the war has ended, the normal rules are enacted again. Settlement Build Rules Only the owner of a Settlement will be able to build offensive structures (mortars, cannons, and swivels) on their island, outside of Wartime. Other companies can build defensive structures (puckle) at any time. Other companies can build offensive structures ONLY during Wartime. Outside of Wartime, these structures are non-functional (inactive and unusable) Notification System Players can sign up for email notifications related to company log activity Company Logs that have any physical in-world location shall now include the grid and GPS. (e.g a boat was sunk on K5 at 50 50) Discord Webhook for in game company notifications Lawless Servers Will continue to operate like normal, no islands on these servers can be claimed. Reduced structure placement rules Damage decay added over time on all structures PvE Network No claim flags Damage decay overtime added to all structures A new auto-repair structure which players will need to upkeep to prevent structures from being destroyed by decay. world redesign This milestone will also introduce some world changes to the ATLAS itself. The overall objective from these changes is to provide players with more land to use for their bases, as well as a general update for our current biomes and introducing new areas to explore. Over 200 islands added to the network, approximately 1 additional island per grid. Players can now set any server as their home server. Following the wipe and the potential for freeports to be overloaded, we’ll be temporarily enabling setting any ATLAS server as your homeserver. Additionally, we’ll most likely create a respawn on current server option too. full notes for march milestone - New Vehicle: Submarine. Explore the depths of the ocean in this small scouting submarine. No weapons on board, but it does have claw arms to help harvest the ocean floor and explore (demolish) shipwrecks The submarine can also light up its surroundings, and will require fuel to run. The fuel cost will be based on movement, so the more it moves, the more it uses. Additionally, there will be a higher cost for movement that is lateral (forward/backwards) compared to longitudinal (upwards/downwards). The submarine will not outclass ships as you’ll need to pay a lot in fuel costs to be able to travel far, the intention is to use them in these underwater deeping-diving scenarios. It’ll be unlocked and can be driven by defeating the Kraken, though players will be able to be passengers in other users submarine’s without having completed the Kraken quest. - New Environment: Deep Ocean Trench. A new area to explore, guarded by powerful underwater creatures and home to the new Giant Crab. The trench will be found on the Golden Age Ruin servers and contain 8 new power stones which can be used to unlock fight a more difficult version of the Kraken. It’ll be an area where players can find new resources, new creatures, such as the Crab with more to come in the future. - New Creature: Giant Crab. It can heavy loads, along with players, tames and wild creatures The crab can be found in the Trench and it is a tamable creature. It’ll have the ability to carry and throw other players/creatures, and it can also jump very far. These abilities may change over time as we progress further into ATLAS’ development. - New Environment: Eastern Tundra now has its own visual design, no longer using the Western Tundra style We’ll be updating the eastern side of the Tundra to have it’s own unique design! - New Structure: Guillotine. Hanging your foes in a noose taking too long? Off with their heads! When you behead another player, the game will remember their facial appearance and hairstyle, which can be used as decoration on wallhooks (on gunmounts too)! - New Feature: Curses. Tied to the execution of players When executing a player, you’ll now receive a % of their experience points. This will have a cooldown, so it cannot be used to quickly drain/transfer experience, and some general experience will be lost when the transfer occurs. We’re not intending for this to be an incredibly aggressive feature, but something more fun which occurs when executing players. We’ll be expanding the curses system more later on. - New Feature: Squads (ships) of the Damned will now come in multiple size variations with different stats and difficulty levels. Ships of the Damned will now appear in squads! They’ll contain an assortment of various types including Galleons of the Damned, Brigantines of the Damned, and Schooner of the Damned. These types will determine their difficulty, and the loot will scale based on the level of the damned, as well as type of damned that the squad is comprised of. For example, a Squad containing 2 Galleons is going to reward better loot than a Squad containing 5 Schooners. Loot will be rewarded on a per-ship basis. The intent behind this change is to make the fight less predictable and a more interesting experience out on the seas. We are not planning for them to be killing machines or an immense threat, they’ll still maintain a reduced targeting ranged and players will have the choice whether to engage in battle or to flee. However it should be noted that they will now share the same target when attacking. - New Cosmetics: Peg Legs and Hook Hands. These will be acquired through the cosmetic vendor in freeports, as they won’t be providing any stat benefits, we prefer that they are readily available for players. You will not be able to equip both the left hand and left leg (or foot) at the same time. The war system and timers on pvp and offline raiding sound like absolutely trash, some of the most fun ive ever had in this game were launching sneak attacks on enemy harbors and having them try to funnel out in a panic to meet us in battle, or defending against people trying to offline raid us but catching them in the middle and beating them back, honestly it sounds like everyone complaining about pvp as it is right now needs to seriously get better at the game or move to pve for a more relaxed experience. So what? you dont have the time to invest in the game? fair enough the devs should reduce the grind dramatically to compensate but changing the core mechanics because it supports offline raiding or attacking harbors to destroy enemy ships? give me a break, this is an extremely poor design choice for pvp and although i appreciate how interested the devs are in trying to fix issues i dont think any of these changes are going to really solve anything, And Offline raids are a thing because all of you smaller groups popcorn everything when bigger groups try to online raid you! i think the devs need to start paying a bit more attention to how the game is played at the top rather than listening to the 50 players at the bottom that cant get a foothold because they are unable to or unwilling to invest the time necessary to ensure they wont get wiped while they are offline. PVP in hardcore survival games isnt for everyone, thats why there is always an option to join a bigger group, or just playing pve for a more relaxed experience. My clan takes in all sorts of players, pvpers pvers and everyone in between because both types are absolutely necessary when you play PVP. I seriously hope the devs think a bit harder about the changes before the big wipe day and change them according to feedback before people invest time into building, maintaining islands and waging war.

Just make it 1 per company in PVE but keep it. It's also a way to control who lives next to you and avoid greifers. Some big company only greif small. I see some already placing tcth foundations everywhere to prevent resources spawn and kill our game and they will have the mean to auto repair them.

While we have no idea how it's going to be implemented until the ptr is available, the general assumption with regards to the pve claim changes are that the pillar spam is not going to avoidable. Coupled with the assumption that people will be able to grief by blocking resources on non lawless, this sounds like a poor change for pve. Consider that having a claim also provides a sense of identity. These changes remove that completely. You guys just updated your claim flag physics and pve players won't even be able to see it. There's no reason for pve players to design a flag at all. There's no company recognition or identity. The leader board won't even exist for pve. Lets rethink the pve changes. Allow us to stake our claim without worrying about griefing. Limit flags to one per person, with a max cap per company. Remove sea claims entirely. Also consider that pve players tend to enjoy the building and design aspect of the game more as well. With these proposed changes, we can assume that our large scale builders will be heavily punished by grindy upkeep, having to heavily farm not only to build, but to maintain those builds. I 100% agree that the current claim system on pve was completely unsustainable, but if our assumptions here are correct, you've swung the pendulum too far.

Thanks for all your thoughts and suggestions, Pathfinders! (Especially those of you on PvE who wanted claim limits or upkeep!) You've been very brave little pirates getting through all that spam and griefing with nothing to call your own but that fierce new pirate hat we gave you, so as a reward, here's a 2x to keep you happy until our Great April Update! In this update, we will be removing ships from the pve servers, and replacing them with tricycles. You all seem to be very busy running around doing nothing but collecting thatch and building huge gates, and this should help you get around the island easier. And remember, Pathfinders, we are always looking for your feedback! You might raise attention to some other element game you're actually enjoying so that we can "adjust that design" too. And I almost forgot, we made you a mitten. It's a pirate mitten! I'll be wearing a real one at the next livestream, so be sure to tune in.

Just limit the claims to 10 per any company, 20 for a company over 25 members, and 50 for companies with 100+ members. More than enough land for anyone, and seeing as how there is a company with 3000 land claims, that would be land for 59 other companies of 100+ people, or 148 companies with 25 people, or 299 companies with less than 25 people. Thats up to 5000 to 10000 more people having land.. And thats just 1 company being divested of its land. Other companies in the top 10 have ~2000 flags of 1000 flags. Between freeing up claims with that, and 200 new islands, there would be more than enough land to claim for everyone playing now, and damn sure more than enough land for everyone playing after the wipe. Hell, that would be enough room for everyone who's ever played on PVE to have claims, with room to spare for new players.

You bought PvP game and you are complaining about what? Solution for offline raiding? Can you please tell me where is pvp in offline raiding? Protection from offline raiding means much more online action = much more PvP. If you just want to destroy someone while he is offline then sorry, you are just a griefer. It has nothing to do with PvP.

You are on a really good course there, its awesome. Two things among those many good changes that could have a second thought in advance are: 1. Number of companies on an island reducing upkeep. -> it seems rather pointless as nothing keeps companies from creating subcompanies and place one dude there to reduce the upkeep. Since an active company and players pay taxes there is no need for an passive upkeep bonus on company numbers. I can already see those many 1 man companies happening 2. Maybe add a low tech version of the sub for players that dont go at the kraken, so they can experience the underwater world too. And one personal preference, i would like a server setting and maybe an official network where there is no raiding outside of wars. So there is no daily guard duty but still pvp at any time. But overall i love how dedicated you are to the game and now i can see a bright future ahead, keep up the good work and thanks for the heads up.

Also, in addition to knowing precisely how to be level 51 + have a fully-built galleon by the end of day one, completely solo, I'm going to have a lot more space to do that with since exactly 0 of my current pve friends and trade partners intend to play this game again after the wipe NA PVE was already down to 300 players sometimes and getting land was super easy because you'd just pick through the bones of the thousands of players that quit, but with a full game wipe and no one returning I can probably just own the whole damn planet, more islands and all
  34. 4 points
They should keep flags in pve, but just limit it. Like 1 flag per person, or max 25 flags per company with 25+ members. I'm really concerned about the foundation span, resources not growing. People will block off a lot now if they can, this will make everything even worse.

maybe the devs just decided is you who have to find a new game where spent your 24 hours of free time -_-

hmm no, if you have too much time it's your business. 9 hours for day is hardcore enough for most players

first of all, all servers will be wiped. bye bye bye, time. the new pvp stuff is really bad. scheduled raid system. remove the pvp server and play pve only. we want to attack whenever we like...…... people will drop the game!!!!

All i am saying is, it is PvB that the others played not PvP. And in the new System the people who take joy in PvBing will still be able to do it on lawless and unclaimed islands. On the others actualy PvP is needed to achieve something.
  41. 3 points
We will see how it plays out. However, you (devs) would be wise to have a backup plan in place and ready to implement before the wipe if the feedback on the PTR servers goes nuclear. Also, never announce a surprise wipe this far ahead of time. Either give it a set schedule out of the gate or announce it 24-48 hours before it happens, but never give people just enough time to decide nothing's worth doing in the game and get hooked on some other game between the announcement and wipe.
  42. 3 points
I've been kicking this around since I tuned in to hear about the wipe. tbh, I'm understanding of it, but also royally pissed off about it too. Changing islands around and adding more islands WILL cause the destruction of many people's bases. Its unavoidable. And.... I believe that the landscape should have been made perfect before EA release so that this sort of thing wouldn't happen to us. Removing the claiming system in PVE is..... scary. I do NOT want people being able to build right up to my back door. I do NOT want more pillaring/foundation-bombing/fencing off of resource-areas or whole islands, and I think this is exactly what will happen to those of us with smaller companies or solo players. I just spent 45 minutes taking pictures of our base, the docks and all of our ships we've spent HOURS AND HOURS grinding to build. We all worked soo hard and our base was awesome. Yes, we can rebuild. We all know this. But it won't be THIS base. We're heartbroken. This new claim system will NOT help us 'get' a place to build. We all already HAVE a place. Yes, its in lawless for a lot of us... the griefing with pillaring, foundation spam and gating is rampant. Nothing will change with this new system. Not. One. Thing. And wait, aren't you basically making all land outside of Freeports into lawless regions essentially, anyway? The player base has dropped to a new low since the twitch stream and your announcement of a total wipe. Half because so many have decided to quit the game entirely, and the rest because, well, whats the point of doing anything in game when its all going to be wiped anyway? Did any of you even stop to think about this? And no.. I don't agree with waiting until a day or two before to announce the wipe. That would piss of even more people and even more of your player base would quit than already has. I know that in alpha and beta releases devs will warn you up front and personal that a wipe could happen at any time as part of the testing phase you're signing on to be part of. But this is EA. Not alpha or beta. Wiping us... this shit sucks in a way you can't imagine. For a WEEK... rates for harvesting, taming and xp should be 3x, to help us recoup some of what we've lost. This is only fair! As for the new content, fine. Awesome. Great. Not that it will help those of us in smaller companies or solo players much. Some of us may never have the numbers to defeat the Kraken. Some of us may never even have the numbers to collect the stones for it. So making content thats only obtainable after defeating the end boss is, for some of us, disheartening. I can see now why so many people have claimed that you guys cater to large tribes/companies and PvP with no thought to those of us who aren't a part of all that crap. Claiming should remain a part of PvE, be limited to 1 flag per 10 members in a company and limited to a max of 20 per company. Period. At least then we can have land that we don't have to worry about someone spamming the hell out of with pillars, foundations. AND... resource-rich areas (Like for metal, crystal and gems) should be OFF. LIMITS. to claim in or build on. This way, some jackass company can't hog it all by fencing it all in for themselves. (Yes, we've seen it happen. Your new system won't fix it any more than it will fix pillaring or foundation-bombing) And for anyone reading this who wants to shoot venom at me for my heartfelt opinion... Save your breath. I have as much right as anyone else to speak my mind, and I can guarantee you this post if FAR less toxic and salty than some I've been reading. Devs: Please reconsider the claiming for PvE. The above-mentioned solution is far better than what is currently, AND what you plan for us!
  43. 3 points
On PvE the current system needed tweaking that's it. 20days for upkeep is way to much. If you would've made it 4 days like lawless land or had a upkeep requirement on the flags with the reduced time it would be better. No claim flags on PvE initially is going to be a mess until all the whiners who are getting grieved quit and the pieces of shit grievers get bored and quit. Then you'll have the people playing the game you have now. Who have been through the thick and thin to get something in this game and it has been more thick then thin. Also having a hard cap on claim flags in PvE would also fix a lot of issues whether you put a hard cap on individuals or when you're in a bigger company then hard cap it to suit the size of company. Which the more flags your company has the higher the upkeep.

And big gate spam too , ugh , freaking ugly .
  46. 3 points
If the new system is just going to encourage this type of behavior from douche companies what's the point? 3 people were on this lawless server and every island on it looked like garbage with spam everywhere. Hey Lotus, this heap of garbage is yours.
  47. 3 points
While I would prefer 3-4 flags per person (maybe limited to 1 flag per server w a hard cap of 3-4?) any flags at this point is an improvement over pillar/foundation spam and the griefing that will come with jackasses building very near a base to block someone in/ruin the area. It is a pity that they chose a half-ass/quick "solution"
  48. 3 points
@Jatheish really needs a rethink on PVE its not gonna solve the spam issues and so many PVE players wont come back as no large bases anymore which defeats the object of PVE. Upkeep is going top be too much of a grind and boring. I get the wipe but the loss of progress is too much to take. i have over 700 hours so why would any existing players want to come back on PVE? The updates look good but too late for most so it seems.
  49. 3 points
Wiping 700 hours of progress and then putting all the new content behind the Kraken? Seriously? I'm gone. Totally, without question. You cannot make more content by just forcing us to repeat the content. Wipes are part of Alpha or Beta testing. You never said this was Alpha testing. EA Alone does not mean wipes. I've been in many EA's that didn't wipe, and all the ones that did said "You are buying access to our Alpha test" Done. I know there will be dozens of these threads and I hate people that make their own thread for things, but just this once I will do it. And I expect there will be a LOT of them.
