Grappled a flotsam on the fly while sailing 20 knots,... Once Felt like MJ for 30 seconds lol

Well technically speaking pyrates didn't attack other pyrates, and with subs torpedoes, tames you can sit inside and dragons you can fly this is as close to being a pyrate game as the film 'Cats' is to being an epic piece of 21st century cinema.

Ahoy Pathfinders! We appreciate all the feedback we have received, whether written by hardened sea dogs or those still getting their feet wet. We’re monitoring the waves in the Forums, Discord, Steam, Reddit, Youtube, Twitter, and Facebook. Even when we hit rocky shores, you’re there mannin’ the sails. We’re excited to answer some questions that have popped up during our new journey in ATLAS Season 4: The Maelstrom and we hope you’re looking forward to all the new content that will be released in the coming months, like Trade Winds, Farms, Warehouses, 'n more! Below are some questions & answers regarding the future development of ATLAS, straight from the seahorse’s mouth: Developer Q&A Question: I guess my main question would be about new PVP official servers. When you claim an island, is it safe for you or is it possible to be raided? I don't mind PVP at sea, but base raids suck. Just curious. Thanks. Answer: Atlas is intended to be a game about pirates, and while our land-based combat is deep and rich, the new energy behind Atlas is to bring that depth and richness to sea as well. More interesting interactions with the oceans and ships is where we are pointed and we'll be making a host of changes to drive more player energy in that direction. Look for our future development to lean towards creating opportunities for greater rewards and higher risks on the water with more opportunities for opt-in conflict. Question: So, I believe that this is the first time that you've acknowledged "seasons". Are you guys considering regular wipes to ATLAS PVP? In many hardcore PVPers opinions, there should be, in order to keep the game fresh. It seems to drop off about 3-4 months in. Maybe a server to test out having regular wipes? Answer: We agree that it's important for the health of a survival game to have energetic competition over resources, but we want to have our cake and eat it too. So, we are looking for ways to keep these struggles fresh without completely tossing out player progress. We think that coming at it from both sides and wiping when necessary while at the same time helping players hold on to their progress will lead to a vibrant environment of continuous conflict without stagnation. Question: Will ATLAS be available on PS4? Answer: For sure, we want Atlas to be accessible on as many platforms as possible. We are considering whether that means trying to go to PS4 at the end of its life cycle or holding out for the PS5, which is not far off. Until that decision is made, we are focusing on bringing all the new features to our existing players. We hope that answered some of your lingering questions. We have many more questions out there in the deep, and we plan to have Ask a Pirate Day regularly. Feel free to drop questions here or on our other social channels, and your question might get picked the next time around. Hello Everyone, I think the game new devs should rethink the whole speed sail idea. Having different sail types is a great idea but i don't think they should impact speed. Right now we have Speed sails, handling sails and weight sails. Weight sails are never used and handling are super strong when you get +20% acceleration. Because for some strange reason acceleration makes the top speed as fast as speed sails. This makes it so people who lives in the game an farm a lot can have a clear ship superiority when fighting. Great for crushing the hopes and dreams of new people in the game but not a great game mechanic for interesting game play! I would like to suggest trowing the speed sails in the bin. Make all sail types have the same top speed and replace the current speed sail with a new type of acceleration sail. You can keep the look of the speed sail just rename it to acceleration sail. Then remove the acceleration stat form the handling sail. Handling would still give better handling for your ship and give you the better wind angle. This should make the different sail types viable and you can then easily make more interesting sail types. You could make an "armored sail" that again has the same top speed as the other sails but has more hp and is more resistant to sail damage. This make it different but still something you can use if you want and all the sail types are now something that can be changed to your play style and type of ship you like. Just a note: Weight sails would also benefit form a change to the stat it gives to weight, consider giving it a % bonus to weight. If it has the same top speed as the rest of the sails then they will finally be used. Maybe even in some heavy combat ships or large fortress like ships They would be bad a turning and accelerate like a brick but could be fun What do people think about this idea of making all sail types have the same max speed? Do you have some interesting ideas for new sail types you could make for the game? Give me your opinion and like this post if you think this might be a better way of having the sails work in the game. Please remember, i am writing this to help improve the game not to hurt anyone's feelings. Best regard Jack Shepard

I really like the idea of the top speed being the same, but the acceleration would really need to be tuned so that there is a clear benefit to the speed sails acceleration. I could see this being a positive change.

Not sure what you guys expect from them. ATLAS is literally that food container in the Dev's fridge that looks like a hideous moldy science project, that they pretend doesnt exist.

Elder Scrolls Online does this, and that is what I love about that game. I can play in a huge MMO environment safe in the knowledge that I can play without being griefed. Yet, if I chose to I could enter the dedicated PvP areas of the map.

If you want people on the ocean.. there you go. Everyone onboard a ship gains xp from ship of the damned kills.

I found a lvl 15 shipwreck clipped into the ground. Spent like an hour trying to get that damn treasure but there was no way at all. The flotsam they should either buff the gold or get rid of them. I just run them over rather than stop. I've tried grappling them as well just as a sort of fun mini-game while sailing but its nearly impossible at speed. Hell even stopped with the waves moving them up and down.

As far as I see - devs broke something with whales resp timers. About week ago we did both quests. - Blue whales (non aggressive) can be found both in Tundra and Polar. We killed one in Polar. - Sperm whales (aggressive) can be found in Polar. We were searching one for couple grids, and player (huge thanks and hugs for him) told us in chat that he saw one just one grid away. Wished us luck and happy hunting. We found one just one grid away. While on our way home we also spotted 2 blue whales and 1 sperm whale (didn't touch them). The day after I also spotted 2 blue whales in Tundra. Today I was leveling my pathfinder, did alot of discoveries and treasures. Maps got me in to 3 Polar and 2 Tundra regions, and while I was chasing the islands and icebergs, I DIDN'T SEE a SINGLE WHALE at all. Also there were like 10-15 players each region who were on the whales mission and they keep spamming messages like "any1 see any whales?" and no one answered he does (I mean there was one troll guy who was trying to send players to central maw. Shame for him). My guessing is - all, who already did this mission, just killed all whales around and they simply did not respawn yet.

SPAWNS! From day 1 spawns have been a problem. With the latest wipe even more so. This could take you a day to fix :( and we have been complaining about it till the cows come home. 1. Too many snakes. 2. If you spawn a strawberry, let it BE a strawberry. 3. If you spawn fibre, let it BE fibre. 4. Ruby is not a crystal. If you spawn a ruby let it BE a ruby. In some areas where you have the same spawned plant next to each other yet you can have 3 different items from berry to fibre. Please keep it real - it makes for a more pleasant experience.

When can we get the devkit updated? It hasn't been touched since last October and is missing many, many updates since the update that made cats availble. Now, with the Int32 mod id issue (Ark just resolved it), no new mods can be created and used on unofficial servers. So, it's really broken now for any new mod development. When can you fix custom mapping in the devkit and unofficial server? It just doesn't work. Some have tried to do part of the work in Ark and port it over but nearly everyone struggles with getting it to load into a custom map. Even the example map extension isn't even in the kit anymore. Just an empty folder. Are there any plans to improve communication with the modding community? If so, what can we expect? Are there any plans to offer a sponsored mod program similar to Ark? Are there any plans to improve communication with the unofficial server admin community? A significant % of active and loyal Atlas players in the community spend their time on unofficial servers. It's been more than official in the past 6 months. If so, what can we expect?

So, why is it that solo players get screwed? Because you can’t play pvp without some douche killing you. What fun is that? It just me and my homie and we can’t catch a break. All the claimable islands are taken, and clearly lawless island are a non starters. So does that mean I have to go to Blackwood to have fun?

To all the complainers, Has it been forgotten by many players that this game is still in Early Access? EXPECT WIPES EXPECT BUGS EXPECT LOSING ALL YOUR PROGRESS OR PLAY ANOTHER GAME This is an Early Access game - NOT a finished product.

  17. 1 point
Ok i just played for 15 mins. Ark resources are in the game on lawless instead of ATLAS resources- we can't build anything. RIP -- this is why you need to do public test realms devs. its like common thing to listen to your players and work with them on upgrades, not keep them in the dark and mess up a re-launch.

Thank you but I can't, I just can't. I know some girls like doing it but I am not one of them, I killed a guy in 7dtd three times in a row and just couldn't bring myself to do it the fourth time even though he was stupid enough to get in front of my ak that many times lololol yeah, I can't do pvp also the destruction is not in my blood.

Because they said they are "breaking PvE away into something else" what does this mean? You could interpret that as PvP server with PvE elements so they get rid of PvE only. There is no confusion other than why they don't want to say. Yes they may add another PvE server back up and keep just one for "time being" but why? If they are breaking PvE into something else? Until we know what that something else is it's anyones guess but my hunch is PvE will be gone eventually. I could be wrong but that is why so many interpret that way.
  20. 1 point
You know they could have just done a simple Twitch stream to straighten all this out. I'm abit cautious of starting on PvE server until I know it will stay up. It's the "time being" I don't like. Could have shown us the map on stream and explained things, where islands are now, why they have done this and clarify what is happening with servers going forward. How hard is it? I mean I don't mind the wipe after a long period of time playing but if I invest more time now I feel like PvE server will be gone sooner rather than later. They've already said "we are breaking PvE away into something else" TELL US stop speaking in riddles. Does this mean on the PvE server? Or on the PvP server? They have left me totally confused on whether to even attempt to start again tomorrow. I was hoping these devs were going to be better but still can't grasp the basics of communication.

"one global PVE server for the time being" - Doesn't sound good to me. Does "for the time being" mean all my progress is going to be wiped in favour of a pvp server ?
  24. 1 point
So what you are saying is don't play PvE server unless you want everything to be wiped again? "here will be one global PVE server for the time being" Why even keep PvE server up if you aren't planning to keep it long term? You should be more clear to people because they will build and eventually you will take that server down and they lose everything AGAIN. They even have the nerve to use the same video as they did in the release, just when you think they couldn't stoop any lower. Have to laugh at the incompetence if nothing else

"there will be one global PVE server for the time being." interesting way to say you don't care about the players that like and want to play the game but not deal with the toxic nature of what you call "levels o' fun with a focus on player encounters"

Why at the start of every season do I have to run around chasing power stones, discovery points and dragons one time for myself and then 4-5 times for other people in my company just so we can be competitive in PvP? I don't give a shit about killing kraken, chasing dragons and hydras, its not fun, its not challenging, its just a pointless time sink i have to get through to pvp. The irony of it all is that PvP at level 50 is actually fun and makes sense. At level 50 there's depth to the attribute and skill system because you have to pick and chose what you want. Where as level 100 you have capped your hp at 300, your stamina is over 200, you have every skill that you need and everyone you fight will be the same. The devs in their wisdom decided to buff the sword and the mace to stop the torpor cheese tactics, but they never touched the ranged weapons so they just get outscaled by the hp at higher levels. We have this super one dimensional end game where everyone have the same skills, the same weapons and the same attributes. The devs need to stop treating the game like its a korean mmo from 2003. The way things are now you have to wipe every couple of months because x amount of hours > skills and tactics, theres no way for new players to fight back at established groups. The disparity between new players and someone who's played 100s of hours is just to massive, you basically have to wait for a new season to contend. My suggestion would be: Stop giving attribute points and skills after level 50 Add different attributes to the attribute system so we have more options of developing our characters. Give us more ways of generating pvp content then attacking someones base. My idea would be to lock certain resources to just one grid, lower the build cap and npc limit on that grid and dedicate a server to it. This way we have some strategic objectives we can fight over, if they cant spam npcs and buildings left, right and center it will be less laggy and companys have to put up an active defence to hold it. We need a proper economy, a shop in a freeport isn't doing it. We need more tools or an auction house on some trade hub or something. Pudding and Grog needs to be addressed. Grog reduces incoming damage and increase melee damage in reality all it does is nerf ranged weapons which is already in a terrible spot. Not to mention time to kill overall is already way to long before you add these buffs. Can we just get rid of the shield? Do anyone use this thing for anything else then cheesing and chain stunning people into a coma? I don't see what it adds to the game. The swivel should be reverted to its old values when its on a boat or on a cart, it really fucked with land balance. Atm you achieve with a common swivel what you needed a legendary for before and its made ship boarding a nightmare. I really enjoyed ship boarding after the glider nerf and the swivel buff boarding became almost non existant. I would also suggest adding negative effects to short and skinny characters and positive to tall and fat characters. I think at the very least if you are skinny you should be more vulnerable to ranged attacks and if you are fat you should get a resistance to ranged.

Lol thanks, I've been on board for a while actually but most of my time was spent moderating the discord (i was moderating there before the asked for someone to help here), while dealing with spammers and the occasional abusive poster here. However, with the uptick in activity on the forum since the recent changes and announcements I am trying to push to be more conversationally active here as well though.

I hope you no longer work with the intern who had implanted the new islands (upside down...) in the equatorial zone few months ago. I say intern because I hope a real developer checks his work, or correct it if he made a mistake... If you are still working with this person, and you are still copying/pasting island formats, tell him to turn this island 90 degrees clockwise, and check the others... otherwise your new map is going to be a hell of a mess! Edit: If an island is established upside down is not really the problem. the real problem is that never been fixed. I'm a little mean, but I love this game (3k+ hours of PVE play), and I hope it will be improved and finished. A game cannot stay for 2 years in early access. Telling players : "what you are doing is temporary" is normal during early access. But this is no longer normal when developers disappear for 6 months.

I have a solution. PvP can be great when it’s mixed with PVE evenly. You have PVE islands that can’t be raided while PVP islands can. Separate PVE and PvP ship design. One can attack and be damaged and the other is safe. It’s perfect. PVE could sell to PvP encouraging trade. PVE ships can be attacked if they are at PVP harbors. There. I solved it. Let’s play. Heck let’s just do factions. I would like to on be the peace loving bear hugging sponge bob type of pirate faction. The rest can play the scary rated M black sails pirate faction. They go around and are like “Argh! We name our animals after our privates and don’t use soap.” Whilst I am a more like, “Look dear, these flowers are really pretty on this hillside and oh look...a waterfall!” Yeah good times ahead, meanwhile I’ll paint the kitchen until you have my game ready.

Actually they haven't said they are keeping the eu pve server either, they just said na would go offline first. And seriously i'd rather build cute little ships and houses than big square blocks with no windows, and ships that look like wooden pyramid shaped hedgehogs covered in canons.
  32. 1 point
Because I bought the the game for pve NA, NA, NA NOT EU. Too many trolls and overcrowding on EU servers not to mention the ping. PVP should go play on the EU let's see how quickly you change your tune...just saying.

All games go the money route eventually, Conan exiles, Sims, eso, assassins creed, wow, and the list is endless. No mans sky hasn't really yet, but it's prob only a matter of time. And the worst thing is how shafted xbox players get compared to pc. Although microsoft are mainly to blame for the huge price hike on downloaded games.

Don’t forget the reason they had a paid dlc during ark EA period. Jeremy Stieglitz was trying to poach from his old company and he got sued so it was up to us gamers to not only test the game but fund the game as well. We are all technically part owners of the game now lol
  35. 1 point
They are good at lying, they did the same thing with Ark. When Ark was in beta they plainly stated that the servers would not be wiped, so they had all of us suckers out there testing their broken game and when they released the game they called all the old servers legacy servers and wiped 70% of them right off the bat and the rest soon followed. Wildcard was a good co pant once upon a time and as soon as they came out with their first DLC which was still while the game was in game preview they became greedy. Just like the rest of their projects this one will never be finished, they will close servers, sell dlc to a game that is t finished and milk it the same way they milked Ark. pathetic business practice.
  36. 1 point
That is not what I bought, the game stated what it is no longer and to me that is a total rip off no matter that it came later and, no matter it is in early access, if it walks like a duck it most likely is a duck or in this case, rip off.
  37. 1 point
All new games start with the honeymoon period, and it seldom lasts before the cracks appear. I think if a decent pyrate game get's released that is dedicated to the subject, with devs that stay the distance ,then yeh Atlas would be pretty much be over. Tbh the problem as I see it is Atlas still hasn't broken properly away from being an ark dlc, Hopefully they will eventually do this and it will become a stand alone survival game in it's own right. For a lot of us that have played from the start it certainly needs more content now to bring the interest back. But I would like to add that the devs in no way deserved the torrent of abuse and toxicity that they got when they used to regularly post on the forum, I don't suppose that it helped them to remain upbeat and positive.
  38. 1 point
Also, I have to point out that this might be the worst paragraph ever written on this forum. Periods, and commas are left out, making the majority of it unable to be fully understood. But the part about people leaving Last Oasis...if something BETTER, does come out, I am sure they will. The key word there being, BETTER. This would be 100% normal and expected. The question is, why did they leave Atlas, for Last Oasis? I mean, I am literally running into Atlas Mega, after Atlas Mega, now in Last Oasis. And another question is, would they come back, if Atlas became a BETTER game than it is currently? One reason that Last Oasis isn't likely to lose a large amount of players, is because it is very very attractive to most players that they don't risk what they don't want to risk, in most circumstances. In fact, I can load up my crafting base into my Walker, and upload the Walker, and then go to bed KNOWING that it will be available to me when I log back on. In fact, since I can store an amazing amount of stuff in that base, and it doesn't count against the weight limit of the Walker, I can even keep all my resources safe from thieving clan members. The reality is that Grapeshot didn't pay enough attention to how much people hated their stuff being destroyed while they were offline. Grapeshot should have had a better plan to make the game more focused on ships at sea, and less focused on base defense. I absolutely love that the focus is not on base defense in Last Oasis, and in fact, it makes no sense to invest tons of resources into a base because the tile you would build it on, will eventually burn up. It's not too late for Grapeshot to create an Atlas game that is attractive to a wider audience, but that time is quickly running out. To get a large audience back, they are going to need big news that is appealing to them. A ship vs ship server, would be just what the doctor ordered.
  39. 1 point
Ah yes, there's always one, "well why are you here, then?" Because I have many many hours in Atlas, on Official, and a lesser amount on unofficial. There are aspects of the game that I love, and aspects that I hate, and many people hate, and it drove them from the game. I am here, because I would like to see changes made that make the game more fun for more people, so that we can once again, have a healthy sized player base in Atlas.
  40. 1 point
You say it is antithetical, and then you go on to explain why it is not. First, games need balance. Would you pay to go see a sports game between Pros, and children? I mean, would this be considered good competition worth paying to watch? Of course not. Why not? Because there is no competition. Even colleges are divided into divisions, to offer more fair competition. Same for high schools. What makes a game fun for anybody, if one group can just run roughshod over another group? Who is that fun for? It's certainly not a recipe for a healthy game community that will stick around for a while. Honestly, how long do you think most players will stick around for games when they get wiped. How many wipes in a row does it take for the average player to leave a game? I have seen people quit after one. I have seen many more quit after two in a row, and even more after 3 in a row. Why do FPS players log into a game, day after day after day, when they get repeatedly killed in that game? So long as they are experiencing something close to even success and failure, they will continue to log in. If they get killed, but never get kills, they would not log in. The idea that wipes are needed for a PvP game to be fun, is just absurd. That is only fun for the one doing the wiping. If the goal is to drive players from the game, then wipes are a great way to do it. I've seen many people quit because of wipes. The problems you describe, are people trying to avoid the pain of being wiped. In short, it's like speed limits. When you put up radar detector and it shows that everyone is driving 10 mph over the speed limit, people are voting with their foot. They are letting you know they don't like the speed limit. In this game, people are showing that they don't actually like the wipe mechanic, and are doing everything they can to avoid it. Cheaters used under meshing to avoid it. Why not just come up with game mechanics that allow everyone to avoid getting wiped, and yet creates reasons to PvP? Seems a more reasonable solution.

Dear, We have been playing in [PVE][UE] for some months and now, we see that our server has dissapeared. Is this true? We can only find one PVE server and our company, islands, animals, characters.... are not in there. Where is our stuff and characters? Have been lost? Is a hard reset? Please let me know whats going on, because the patch updates not give information about this. Regards

Whether you like it or not Atlas is a massively niche game. Even more polarizing is the fact that Ark is its biggest competition and is better in almost every key way. Basically even if you like this game you should be realistic. Low population equals low revenue which leads to less players culminating in an eventual dead game. I think the game needs a complete overhaul, trying to balance the mess that currently exists is just spraying perfume on a turd. As to what that overhaul can be is anyone’s guess but I’m going to share my ideas so that you can tell me how terrible they are. To start I’d get rid of all the lawless zones and rework freeports. You would also no longer be able to buy an island. Instead I would have four (maybe more) zones acting as player hubs equally placed in the game world. PvP and PvE would be merged into one. In these player / city hubs you would be able to do everything you currently can at freeports but with some big additions that I’ll list soon. These PvE areas would be full of fun ways to interact with other players and get quests or jobs. The bank system would be the core of the game. An infinitely sized cache where you can store all of your materials and gold from the game world. This would add a much needed sense of progression even with the devastation of getting sunk on the open sea. The stable system would allow you to house all of your creatures without needing to worry about having them around taxing servers and taking up space. You want to take a bear on your next expedition? Go to the stable and pull him out. Less time worrying about creatures and more focus on exploration. Anything you bring out with you is at risk of being lost but that’s the fun of it. Auction house, here you could trade either privately or publicly with other players for gold, materials, structures, creatures, ship BP’s, etc... The homestead, if you’ve ever played a typical mmo you probably understand what this is. It’s basically an instanced area where you have a house and neighbors etc... Eventually you would be able to buy a custom area where your company lives. From here you can do all of your breeding, building, and ship creation. Ships would now allow you to save the blueprint so if you either want to sell a model that you designed or if you get sunk all you need is the base materials to quickly rebuild and set sail again. After all this you might be wondering what the point of the game even is anymore? Fair enough I’ll do a quick rundown of my idea. Each city hub is a different faction that offers different quests, jobs, and rewards. City one will offer PvP oriented quests to hunt down trade and cargo ships and steal their loot. City two will focus on making risky voyages with more a death stranding style gameplay all while being targets of the pirates from city one. City three will be a military focused faction based around hunting down the most dangerous pirates from city one or protecting those from city two. City four would be based around exploration, taming exotic creatures, and whaling. There would be as much interplay between the factions as possible and you could access your homestead from any of the cities. The blueprint system would still be there. You could collect your materials and bring them back to your bank to make the better gear and ships. Moreover, every ship in the game world would have a leaderboard ranking based around how many player ships it has sunk. This way when you spyglass a ship you immediately know if you should be terrified or whether you may want to try collecting the bounty for sinking it. You could also still build on islands but decay timers would be reasonably short so that players wouldn’t overdo it and trash islands. In closing, I think this sets the foundation for a way more interesting game. Yes it’s more casual and will upset some in the community but overall it’s a far more accessible and FUN game. Also, the Vitamin system needs reworked/removed.

TBH i would give up on the game if they remove the PvE server, i dont want to deal with the toxicity of the PVP players, and it makes it impossible for us solo players who want to join in on the multiplayer side of things to do anything, none of the people i normally play with play atlas, (ive tried to get them to try it) and based on my experiences in other PVP focused games, (Ark, Sea Of Thieves, For Honor, Red dead redemption 2, etc..) the player base has some ok people who will try and wither help, or just not kill a new player, but that's rare, a majority of games with a PVP element have people who will go out of there way to ruin a players experience just because they can, ive had friends give up on games because a more experienced player was camping outside of the spawn, or they just go out of there way to ruin a good time. people dont know how to relax and ENJOY a game for the game play anymore, they try to relax by ruining someone else's day in said game. all that being said, im just hoping that they dont remove the PvE side of the game because there are plenty of people who enjoy the game without the PvP.
