As title, Please reconsider the very odd decision. To lock such a staple item in a sea-based game behind end game.bosses, all this leads to is a lot of players not able to access a large amount of game content, For pve players the more content they have the longer they will stay around, are u going to lock end game dungeons behind some odd boss kill or collection of 1000 keys from the kraken? No then why lock the sub away from a high proportion of the player base One thing I have also noticed is a lot of players especially pve just wait for a kraken attempt and hang about outside the barrier to unlock the sub, is this good game design? No And before all the usual get a group and do the kraken arrive , its possible to do yes ,but not everyone has the time to build the necessary ships and have the gold to crew it, and organise an event, they may also have trouble in social situations, Tldr: reconsider the sub locked behind kraken

Dear Grapeshot, One common issue I have seen in the short time we have been testing this game is communication. It has been quite poor at times, but I do admit it is improving. One area I believe it needs to be improved in is the patch notes. We as your paying testers are playing this game, enjoying it, getting angry at it and trying to test it. Many times we notice things change we are left in the dark wondering if this is a bug or game balance tweak. We check the logs and see no mention of this change. We refer to these are ninja updates. They have a negative connotation to them in that your team snuck the change it without telling us because you know it will be poorly received. This is the assumption being made that could easily be rectified with full patch notes. Make a commitment to detail all changes large and small. An informed player/tester base is a better base that can more intelligently speak on the things we observe.

I generally welcome people to join us when we do it. Last weekend we had a rather large turnout but posting it publicly lead to a group repeatedly summoning it to grief us. My requirement is to have a boat with weapons on it so you can help do damage to things. The Kraken does not gate you from exploring the trenches you can just use a dive suit. You can also still tame crabs using the dive suit it is just more difficult. As a game Atlas is an MMO and is not meant to be solo/duo the difficulty (kraken 1.0 is soloable btw, not easy but doable) for those that don't want to be that hardcore I posted that I was setting up a kraken run and had over 100 players want in. You don't need to have a big tribe to do this just be open to talk to other people and set it up. So to me the gate of the submarine and the gate of the polar dungeon are both acceptable because when you unlock it you will get a sense of accomplishment that adds a depth of satisfaction to this game. ~Lotus

Cannons are incredibly light at the moment, I can fit 20+ large cannons I want on a schooner and still have plenty of weight for ammo and being stupid fast/nimble. I would love to see the current cannons made extremely heavy x3-4 the weight - make them blockade or true siege weapons and add lighter cannons for quick pursuit/merchant defense/harass ship setups. this would actually force players to think their setups rather than just make gun bricks. weight distribution management on ships would also be an amazing feature, where having too much uneven weight would make you turn poorly in a specific direction or even sink you even if you’re not over your global cargo limit.

Something that is not resource heavy like a brown texture that is on the land that will block spawns of trees within a certain distance so the tames you require us to play with can atleast move freely since their pathing is garbage at times

Title says it all had normal parts on my brig for a few weeks then suddenly today they changed into the textures for a house and lost all the paint. Even had one tringle piece flip around. PVE EU The Whale's Solitude - G4 - doesn't seem to be isolated to any grid.

Are they testing the subs in EA or the Kraken that unlocks it? If your testing stuff in EA...shouldn't it be available for testing? I have never heard of a EA game content locking stuff that they want tested. Or is this really a game being developed live and the excuse for bugs and bad design is that it's EA?
  9. 2 points
Just a reminder we are more than just players. We are testers. When changes are made we need to know the details of these changes so we can test them. If they fix a specific bug we need to know what that problem is and how to reproduce it if possible. Want to fix an issue tell us how to break it. We'll abuse the crap out of it in every way imaginable so it can be resolved. The way things are handled now we are left guessing and a lot of the time we cannot properly test changes made. We have to feel our way through it and hope for the best. These games are built on numbers and the more visible these numbers are the more closely we can watch them and call out issues. I see lots of good feedback, but it could be even better and more detailed if changes made were better documented and reported to the player/tester base.

There should be as many ships in atlas as there are tames in ark

The sailing aspect doesn’t get much grief because they got it right. The sailing and ship battle aspects of the game feel really good. The wind can be annoying at time when it’s not going in your favor but that’s part of the realism. This game does NOT need to turn into a Mario pirate game.

So hows the server performance for everyone at the moment? I just wonder since i dont see anyone talking about any issues. I get constant disconnects every few minutes since the 1.5 patch and the ship positions update only every 3 seconds. Ping at 255 all the time of course. Maybe its just the grid server im on or does only affect players from certain regions like Europe, as i get a fine connection to the US pvp server but not the EU pvp server from the EU. Maybe i should play on the US server or other map regions or is it the same there?

Helps having a couple people along for the ride to take turns shooting the hydra with carbines. Once it gets to the beach someone on the boat shoots it with a carbine and pulls it into the water. Boat does the rest. Oh and don't bring high end rifles and bring extras.

They have to come out with content, and then improve the stability of games underlying systems, then battleye will be updated and kick all the hackers out, gonna take some time, but I honestly havent ran into any hackers yet. Your outlook on things is pretty negative though, hackers come cheat ya out of your claim or something?

To be fair they actually have a lot of this in the game, it's just that crafting and exploration has never revolved around a players skill and instead has and probably always will be a TIME investment. I mean do you know how many Discovery Points you need to get the 50% exploration quest done? It's a staggering amount, and I about choked when I looked it up. And the high end food is amazing, but it's a time investment that not many people will bother with.

It doesn't just need to be even for megas/small/solo though, it needs to be even for the different roles that can be played in the game. So far, everything but discovery exp calls for the same mechanic - sail somewhere, kill some big thing, get a "thing". That's going to get old real quick: July mega update - defeat the giant jellyfish and get access to a dungeon entered via giant clam. Tame a brontorabbit. Aug. mega update - kill an undersea elemental that spawns 100 seahorses, and get access to an oil rig. Tame a snail. Sept. mega update - kill a reskinned krakamental with 30 people and then go to an island in the sky. Tame a moosaroo. Where's the hard mode crafting levels that only a handful of people in the game might ever achieve that lets them build and sell the best ships, or make the food and armor that really allows someone to live in polar regions? Where's the randomly occurring exploration surprises? Where the beautiful building options for hard mode builders only? The people calling for "hard mode" are only considering the "hitting some creature with a stick" part of the game, (and truth be told, it doesn't sound like they're finding that part all that hard anyway), but they're getting all the building and crafting in super easy mode. Let's jack up the other side of the game too.

Cyclops still are decent, but also gorgons, and other top end creatures. Remember end game is Mythos so it should not be easy to farm.

Trade. Same way I have two Crabs without a sub or taming skill.

Thanks, guys! I really like the added-on comments that the idea should extend to tool/gears usage too. I'm starting to run into that where my wife went one way on the tec tree and I went another, but we thought it would balance out and be more of a communal experience, instead, its more of a solo game that you can never really get caught up in. I don't mind the communal part, its refreshing. but as people are saying, we shouldn't have to take skill tree/invest in order to ride a saddle animal OR use gears of any type. I get not being as efficient as the person who makes the gears, but I should still know how to use a pick, regardless of the quality.

I wasn't saying it helped you with those. I'm saying it should be the reward for some crafting or exploration feat. Not for beating up another monster.

Weight distribution is a good suggestion, as well as having specific snap points for guns. Having 35 guns on the back of schooner is as much a shocker on the eyes as it is physics!

How about no upkeep cost at all and just take a percentage (tax) from every sale? And vary the tax rate based on island claim value or population.

Similar happened to a group on Sunday, started kraken just for the hell of it ,there are some real asshats about On the mmo side yes it is, but the sub was heavily advertised and featured in the forefront for the big update then to find out locked behind end game boss for no reason at all other than because they can is denying basic content to a large majority, Did u not read the op a lot of people enjoy mmo but due to what ever social inadequaties are unable to join groups , so resort to in my opinion to a glitch by just being outside the barrier to unlock the sub, that is the only way a lot of players will ever get the sub, If the devs are going to continue down this road of solely group content then they will never see any significant player base growth, The devs need to think about what they are adding and how to not exclude solo and small 2-3 man companies from any new content, it would great to have the same content I.e a dungeon and have it instanced so that large groups can go in on harder settings, solo/ small groups can go in on easier ones taken could have been done like this there is a barrier anyway so there could be been different setting for it. Wow does this very well with their dungeon system time for the devs to stop making and using the system they designed for ark and start thinking like they are actually developing an MMO which co we players of all types from solo to mega companies Player base growth is achieved by designing all content to all player types ,

You can do it naked with a Bear to get bis Health down. Just Feed and Go back, you have about a second before he hits you. Super easy.

Umm.. tames ARE your wheelbarrows and machines.. only better. My wheelbarrow won't defend me if I get mugged. Nothing beats a rock climbing giraffe tho.

I have no problem with tames, it’s what some people are Into. Good for them! Variety and free Will is what makes games like this amazing! But the OP is spot on with regards to ships!! given the nature of the game, ships and sailing in general have had very little love from the devs!! This needs to change as much of the game was sold on that premise.

I keep reading about how boring it is to sail across the seas, I enjoy the time on the open sea. I dive sunken ships collect crates level up my ships and I enjoy planning out trips to different locations. To each his own I guess.

You can disable it in options. How is this hard?
  36. 1 point
You talk as if they couldn't think of another way to do it. Like sorry it is pretty dumb to think without tames there would be no ways to increase resource gathering. Tools and Machines come to mind for me. Like WheelBarrows for carrying weight or the cargo cart actually getting the cargo ability. There is 0 reason we should have 2 new tames (Crab and a fucking turtle tank) before we get a new ship type
  37. 1 point
    disable it from options

You can disable the auto lock in settings I believe.

Tames do need a nerf. So do golden age islands - that shit is fucked OP. Probably get rid of their inherent like 80% damage reduction they got now, add more saddle types - regular saddle, combat saddle (25% armour), cargo saddle (0% armour) etc. Right now it feels OP blowing through alpha/non alpha animals all over everything not a golden age with a mid leveled bear. If people do this, since people will blow through tames way more, probably a good idea to make taming/breeding a bit easier. Also buff ship defenses and puckles and shit.

I completely disagree. If you don't want to spend so much time on the water, maybe you shouldn't choose a pirate game.

Red seems to work better in Atlas, but a lot of colors seem to look washed out. Wouldn't it be better for the colors to appear NEW when applied, and then start looking washed out over time, and need to be reapplied later, to make it look new again? Or at least, give the option for a thick and thin coat, to create a new or weathered look?
  42. 1 point
The vid below shows quite a few colors and what looks good.

the beiggest thinbg you can do is talk to the owner is they see you talking in gobal chat and you r ok and you follow there rules like don't build on metal spawns and what not they will be more then happy to host you trust me they want you more then you want them

And how exactly are island-owner supposed to: - defend against the enemy placing tons of ships around the entire island during peace-time creating invinite respawn points? Since that would not be possible the only way to fix that for an Island Owner would be to ramp up defences so that NO ship at all can even approach the Island. Completly fortify the Island and nuke every ship that comes into render-range. I fail to see how this would help your cause at all? - get rid of players that: park their ship on purpose in front of a harbor-entrance or other critical structures or blocking ships of other visitors (that one you can actually see a LOT) BTW most island owners have ZERO issue if someone parks their ship for a while IF the ppl ask beforehand and don't be a douche. Same goes also for building. As long ppl talk and don't have attitude-issues there is np to find many spots to park & life.

Listen to these entitled kids who do not pay for an island and instead ride off of someone else coattails then demand more privileges when paying zero gold. How about this if you want to make all the rules go get your own island. My group started out as only 2 people and we easily took control of an island and held it still to this day. There is so many ways to get gold it is easily possible to do. Stop crying about it and make your own way if you don't like it.

This beast was so big that not only was his dorsal fin was sticking far enough out of the water that I saw him from the other side of the pond, he couldn't even swim away from me. (My pathfinder is default height for better reference)

not completely correct. the victory was 104 cannons. 2 × 68-pounder Carronades, 30 × 32-Pounder, 28 × 24-Pounder and 44 × 12-Pounder i know that most ship-of-the-line which were build in the second half of the 18th century replaced the 48-pounders with 32-pounders because the 48-pounders were to heavy and were because of its size to complicated to operate in a combat situation. a 32-pund cannon had a weight of 3 tons and needed 14 sailors to operate. so i guess the 48-er was more like 5 or 6 tons... (nothing personal, just correcting numbers)
  49. 1 point
What's stupid is how powerful and how many cannons you can actually put on a ship
