Making a thread for those that don't watch discord. Since our community managers are the worse at spreading information via all their channels. "PTR isn't up yet but we're working on getting it ready. It'll either be up late tonight (PST) or early-morning (like in the wee hours of the AM in PST). When we're confident we're a few hours out, we'll let ya know." - Jat So in EU time, most likely in the morning of 5th.

Bah. You kids don’t know how good you have it with your newfangled inter webs and fancy automobiles. Back in my day, we built the pyramids one giant ass stone at a time, and if you wanted it finished by the time pharaoh died of old age, you had to start when he was ten! Things didn’t take years, they took lifetimes!

its only more popular because of summit, SOT is trash and got boring after 4 hours! this game is still fun and im 540 hours in!

or must you all waste more of my time with yet another delay?

There sure is a bunch of ungrateful people posting here. The same people that will be complaining about lack of content in a month. Just saying...

How about a Small, Medium & Large cargo hold to store everything instead of cupbords

We won't be able to really test out pve during the PTR. It will not show what happens when island owners leave after a month or two months or six months. We won't be able to test those things out. What does happen after an island owner decides not to play any more? What happens to those poor people who find out about the game in six months and come in game and they are unable to find an island that is not populated? Being able to 'own' an entire island is not a good idea at all. We really should only be able to own a small claimable piece of an island, not the whole thing.

PLEASE make the 2x2 wood gates placeable on ships... And placeable flat on the deck so we can have access ports on the flat of the deck without a superstructure

Guys please, this game is in developpement, developpers can make mistakes like everyone, we are all supposed to be patient and to enjoy the game, give some advicec and feelings, or just come back later. Anyway we still can say that their communicant or community manager should change drasticly the way the do the announcement and the delay before the changes Kiss all

The server math in this thread feels way too much like an SAT word problem. ”If a train leaves Chicago going east carrying 3 NA servers, and another train leaves Frankfurt Germany going west carrying 3 EU servers, if both trains fall into the ocean because Grapecard didn’t get the bridge patch out on time, how many people will need to unlock the submarine to recover enough servers for PTR before everyone gets bored and goes to play Satisfactory instead?”

I think we aren't that far off in our opinions but I refuse the notion that Grapeshot is in this case the victim of impatient gamers. We are also not talking about the normal delays which happen in Software development (I'm one btw so I can emphasize with it even if I "only" do it in a corporation environment). This whole thing has a history and that can't be ignored and a lot of the issues people have could be managed by proper communication, something Grapeshot constantly fails at. The thing is they have simply no credit left they can use. The game is already a huge mess in several areas, infested by cheaters/hackers and now has to suffer a wipe (that did catch a lot of people offguard because it was again never properly communicated/prepared for) while the "big patch" has been delays several times and even changing directions (the devide between empire/colonies wasn't part of the original "plan"). I think people who even bother to post about this game anymore were patient enough because the numbers clearly show that 90% of the initial user base didn't have that patience. I certainly condemn any post that is all about personal attacks or is only filled with name calling but let's not lump together all the people (and I think that's the majority) who are simply tired/annoyed of Grapeshot's whole approach (and they aren't dangling dates for no reason infront of us, they do it to keep people around, it's not some innocent accident).

So ... We got whinners in this post, just bitching about the game but doesn't say anything to make it better ... And those same people tell other people they suck just because they give a constructive opinion about the game and what should get a focus to make it better. That's utterly stupid, if you have nothing to say than just crying or litteraly insult people, just quit the post and say goodbye, we don't need you for this game nor the game need you at all, you're dead meat. About the next update of the game, i'm happy they are finally doing what have been requested since the first week. - Claim rework (Was so much needed and asked) - Vitamin rework (Was so much asked, but not needed, game is still playable even if this system is a piece of *bip*) - SOTD rework and variety in their design (Was so much needed and asked) - Player trades via shops or other things (Was so much needed and asked) What makes an MMO shine is it's content and the possibilities it offers, those shops are a step futher in the trading element of the game even if it's still not gonna be perfect, in my opinion, we really need trade routes, not everybody wanna search for treasure H24, we need other gameplay elements to provide gold, and trading is one of the best way to make it possible. Buy those resources in this freeport then sail for ten minutes to sell it in another freeport, or in a player port to make your profit ... Or make the cafting element of the game shine by forcing players to use it (Only manufactured product can be sold with this system). For example, everybody can harvest wood in the wild, so why NPC's should even buy it from you ? Or if they buy it, that would be really low price like 1 gold for 100 wood, but what would happen if you had the forger skill and craft metal ingots with your wood and the metal you harvested ? Oh baby !! Now NPC would buy it because metal is something that's used in everything. Same can go for clothes, armor, weapons and every manufactured item with a dynamic variation in the price that's evloving with the quantity of product you sell. For exemple : 10 people will sell their clothes and armor to NPC, the price will drop because the offer gotten bigger on this item categories, but at the same time, the price of others product would have raised because nobody sold them what's needed. That can be a really deep element of the game, and really important too, because players would think of everything they get or loot, even when they are raiding, they would try to steal everything they can to sell it and make profit out of their raids. You raid someone, you steal what they have, then you sell it, you buy better equipement with it, better canons, better ships, then you raid someone else and so it can go on ... Trading can be a big part of the game but without forcing player to make trading to get stronger. I can tell a stupid example for that, but we could have stats for the canons, wich could be upgraded a number of times (Just like in a real MMO with weapon enchantments), but that would be really expensive, and this kind of canon would be buyable from NPC's at a very high price or sold (Because some crafting/trading maniac like me would be stupid enough to upgrade tons of canons to max level just to make stupid amount of gold and then never use it). MEDIUM CANON : Lv1 canon : 100% damage (Overall abilities, so splash damage, etc) Lv2 canon : 125% damage (Overall abilities, so splash damage, etc) Lv3 canon : 150% damage (Overall abilities, so splash damage, etc) Lv4 canon : 175% damage (Overall abilities, so splash damage, etc) Lv5 canon : 200% damage (Overall abilities, so splash damage, etc) MEDIUM CANON PRICE : Lv1 canon : (28 Alloy / 14 Fibers / 20 Hide / 42 Wood) Lv2 canon : (70 Alloy / 35 Fibers / 50 Hide / 105 Wood) x2.5 Price Lv3 canon : (175 Alloy / 88 Fibers / 125 Hide / 263 Wood) x2.5 Price And on and on ... Only the strongest would have access to the strongest weapons and that's how an MMO should be, the more time you spend into the game and the stronger you become, that's how an MMO work and how it should work ... (It's as stupid as a Diablo game, you get loot, you get stronger, you go kill stronger monsters, you get stronger loot, then you go fight stronger monsters that are stronger than the stronger monsters from before, etc, etc, etc). Anyway, this game have an enormous potential, so don't ruin it with your baby whinning, what are you seriously ? Twelve years old kid that get mad because mom didn't want to buy a shity ice scream ? XD PS : Stop crying about the new creatures because the game doesn't evolve only around you and some pirates prefer to tame beasts and breed them instead of figthing wars, that's my case and i want Atlas to offer diversity because that's all an MMO is about. WOW is still here and it give tons of things to do when you log in, same for Dofus or Wakfu wich are old MMORPG'S but they are still here, because they give tons of things to do, and that's what ATLAS need.

Hey Pathfinders! Just wanted to come in and give you a quick status update for ATLAS 1.5 before the weekend. We are planning on launching the Public Test Realm next Wednesday, the 3rd of April, and by then there will be an in-depth Captain’s Log which will do a deep dive on the entire patch so you know what to expect. Full patch notes can be found here: Going forward, we expect subsequent major updates to come on a monthly basis, which will include more content such as new items, weapons, creatures and new areas for players to check out! We know that this update has taken quite some time and we really appreciate everyone’s patience as we dug down to the core of the claiming system and reworked it. We expect that we’ll have this ready to ship onto the main network by the week of the 8th of April. Following ATLAS 1.5, there will be a lot more to come in terms of design changes and content. This announcement post contains a sneak peek of some upcoming new creatures, can you guess what abilities they’ll have?

what a stupid idea deploy the PTR only in one EU network. wait for the network and servers overload. many people from NA servers coming on EUPVE just for try PTR. its mean that many people who played on EUPVE leave the game by various new reasons. just for me for example if i cant take my old spot then this reason is enough 2 leave the game. sry 4 my eng.

Well the test server is apparently coming out today but they refuse to give us a time and you don't need to download anther app/game to play it. They are using the EU PVE server so when they update the game the test server will show up in the normal spot you would find all the other servers and im going to guess its going to be called PTR and not EU PVE

Nah I get that. I just know bears are fairly strong mounts and the horses are lacking. It's a damned if you do and damned if you don't scenario. One way or another people will not be happy. I do understand how people don't want to be forced into taming things. It's easy enough to say-Well don't tame if you don't like them. However seeing it from that side. Your choice is either tame or be destroyed-or at least that's the way I'm interpreting it. Still a playstyle that I will admit. I wouldn't be good at. I mean I could probably survive on the PVP side but it would be cause people just feel to sorry to destroy me.

Excellent. Now let’s start a discussion about the difference between objective and subjective, since that seems to be a thing people on discussion forums struggle with mightily.

Yes, this is the trap of the new claim system. You are at the mercy of a lord. That is why lawless sound so apealing to me; there is bigger risk involved in dealing with claim than just build on lawless. Provided it will be sustainable to do so.

Their intentions may have been revised, that is not contradiction, but updating of information. If the owner doesn't speak your language.. that's life.. there are many reasons why someone might be antisocial.. it could be natural xenophobia.. they might actually be afraid of other cultures.. could be a superiority complex or narcissim or a need to just be an arse. This will happen from time to time in many online games, you just deal with those situations as you see fit, either try to commuicate or leave and let someone else try to deal with them.

NOT the end.... you think you gonna live on lawless long term ?... repair structure not gonna work on lawless...... good luck repairing every foundation and wall by hand every 4 days....
  34. 1 point
I am a casual gamer but I play each day after work and for long periods of time on the weekends, if I really wanted to be a asshat in the game with the new system it would be really easy, the above photo is of a small area that you may clean up in just a little while, just think if someone took off and every 20 or so spaces dropping a foundation or pillar all over the island. I know you've already stated that you'd just wait for the decay timer to kick in instead of wasting you time going around to clean the island up, at the same time a person could be waiting for the same decay timer to start the process over again. Before long all your doing is gathering mats to upkeep your claim flag because no one else can build on your island. I know there is going to be a structure radius to keep someone from building on top of you and once that radius is learned then the griefer will know how far they can space out their pillars or foundations to keep someone from building. The PTR is going to work in ways we wont want, not only is it going to show us what the new rules and such are, it's going to give griefers a chance to experiment with the same mechanics so when it goes live they will already know what to do. We all know it's going to happen, we've already talked about it and what will we do when it does, how will we counter it, we've asked questions as to how will we keep someone from blocking our ships in, or placing gates around our base, we've all said that it will be the landlords job to fix issues like that and that all sounds great and all in theory but how many of you all are really willing to give up your play time to police an entire island ? I've done some time trials running around on a tame with the current large and small islands in the game and figuring how long it will take to demolish pillar spam and foundations, unblock ships and remove gates... Well i'll either be running around with no sleep or quitting my job.. I only hope that this PTR opens up the developers eyes a little more for PVE and they consider and alternative plan, this is really going to make pve a aggravation if you have to deal with griefers. I know some people will be lucky enough to never be bothered but others will not be so lucky. Have any of you rolled the dice lately to see how the RNG Gods favor you ???
  35. 1 point
If this happens, just ignore the pillar/platform spam for the short term, and keep demoing their repair structure, if they build one. Only Rainman will be able to keep up with you.

So the owner of the island is like a housing association in a nice suburban area. Joe sets the building code for everyone on Joe’s island. You better hope that everything you build meets Joe’s exacting standards and color scheme otherwise it’s rubble. I will never even try to build where another player (whom I don’t know) can decide what I can and can’t construct in a survival game that I purchased. There is zero fun in Sally getting his/her gates demolished because Joe doesn’t like purple and pink.

With a community like this i can't really blame the devs if they give up. Stop being so shitty everyone and be patient for god's sake. This community is garbage honestly. I will happily wait for more updates and hope that the game is good. I personally feel like I've gotten my money's worth with this game. I've never played on public servers always hosted my own and played with friends. I've had a blast. Just stop being shitty.

I don't consider that to be hard core PvP. I do not PvP to cause pain to other people, or to educate them, or ruin his day. I PvP for the challenge. If not for that challenge, I would only play good single player games, such as the Mass Effect trilogy, Witcher 3, Skyrim, etc... When I played WWIIOL, I went there to play as infantry. I was with a group that had played the Delta Force series. We intended to be a special forces infantry group. That game had a launch more horrible than Atlas. At a time where games released on CDs and DVDs, and were complete and polished, WWIIOL launched in Alpha state. They eventually turned it into an incredible game, but many left before that happened. Our squad broke apart, so I started just playing the game with a couple of friends, as well as lone-wolfing. At some point, I chose to try the tanks. My first experience was less than glorious. WTF killed without a clue how it happened. That inspired me to learn how to use those tanks, and excel with them. I did that. I started finishing campaigns in the top 25. Never finished #1, but some of the Devs, at a convention, made it clear to me that they believed me to be the #1, after following all of the top players. Because it was a subscription game, they had the most aggressive anti-cheat policy I have ever seen. If you were unusually successful, and or, had many accusations of cheating, they followed you to see if you were cheating. They pointed out that I was the only one in the top of the leaderboards who did not cut supply to get there. Cutting supply was basically camping the resupply routes to catch those resupplying. It was near impossible to combat them. You just hoped you didn't run into them. Many of my deaths came to them. The point being that I was, and still am the type that does PvP for the challenge. But there is a huge difference between a challenge, and a lost cause. Frankly, I am losing my passion for this game due to my realization that it isn't really about the PvP. It's about production. I definitely preferred WWIIOL, where everything was about as equal as it could be. Slight differences in equipment, which required different strategies to be successful, but it was possible to be successful no matter what you used. Games like this are different. Some guy with vanilla ship and cannons, has zero chance against somebody who has BPs, and knows how to fight. When you can't even carry enough ammo to defeat him, and his cannons strip your planks in one shot, that fight is only going to end one way, even if he sucks as a captain. That just doesn't excite me either way. Being the guy with vanilla would be frustration, and being the guy with the BP ship would be boring, in that fight. I realize that this attitude makes me much different than most who play games...most for whom winning is the only thing that matters, no matter how that happens.

I enjoy Atlas as well as Ark I started playing them both for the same reason each of them are a very niche game. I stopped playing Ark because with each update and each expansion the game started leaning to this space age content that ruined many aspects of the game. Lets face it nobody really wants to see a player zip passed you on a jet-pack shooting a laser weapon while you are deeply immersed in a prehistoric moment on a game. I always figured cartridge weapons in Ark was riding on the line of acceptance however it was easy enough to accept with thoughts of Jurassic park in the back of your mind. With Atlas I approached it with some apprehension same creators same mistakes? For a while no it had seemed that Atlas was going to hold true to the pirate theme (Well besides the ships of the damned which should be the same type of ships we use only modified in ways to make them unique given what they are.) But as with many other gamer's I am able to accept certain things as being inevitable. With the announcement of the submarine I am starting to think to myself here we go again. Now with the new photos of the tames. The creature with the shell sporting a mowhawk idk the other looks like someone was carrying vials of dna containing Elephant, Camel and Impala specimens tripped on a misplaced extension cord and mixed all three specimens together before creating the test tube abomination that we see in the screenshots. Many people in these forums say oh its early access be prepared for the game to change drastically and I agree with that loosely. If your calling card to the game is the logo you have created or the depiction in your cover art then you would be safe to assume that this is a pirate themed game. Ships with sails flintlock pistols blazing away sword fighting buccaneers sailing the seven seas looting and plundering the entire way should be the norm. Mythical creatures oh heck yeah Cyclops, Hydra, Mermaid's luring you to certain death with a sirens song now you have got my attention. Fighting ships that look like bad renderings from an early Rob Zombie production not so much. Fire elemental's and rock elemental's why are they even in this game seems to be a very lazy approach to a lack of villains in the cast so hey lets just copy and paste this guy from our other game and just to make it interesting lets take away any toolkit he could have to destroy these things and see what happens. The soldiers of the damned are all but laughable if your so stupid as to attack them without a tame you may kill one and damage a few more for them to only disappear below ground and regenerate for the next round providing that they don't bug and you don't get the treasure anyway. PVP claim system rework that's nice how about addressing the core issues for PVE? Starting with the PVE claim system you cant take those back without conflict and conflict isnt allowed on PVE so what is the plan with that. If you don't have some sort of system in place for claiming then building in PVE will remain a joke. Removing alliances from PVE is not going to resolve any real issues only creates more for those that are uncertain about joining a company for fear that they will be kicked out and lose what they have done. (I have seen this happen in the chat many times.) So for PVE what are the options join a company and hope they are decent people which that is a rarity in this day and age or, stay in your own company and hope you can pick up randoms that will not create issues themselves. The only answer to those problems was sharing alliances with other companies. You get to keep your company and keep the things you have spent so long earning in the game while sharing the group experience and in many cases the only way to truly progress in the game is with a large group completing powerstone's defeating the kraken etc. One thing to help with the company issues is to make things like ships tames and buildings owned by the player instead of the company. That will eliminate those little issues like players joining companies and losing the ships and tames they worked so hard to obtain. Griefing is another serious unaddressed issue companies parking ships to block your ships in building structures just outside of your base area effectively blocking you from being able to build or utilize your own ships. Giving the Chinese players their own server would go a great distance towards resolving most of those issues. And before someone says utilize a reporting system how are you going to report someone named square square square square square from the square square square company. But we have decided to add submarines to the game they will be unarmed vessels used in the exploration of shipwrecks.... Well maybe we will ad a harpoon or two. Hmmmmm can one imagine the possible ways this thing will be exploited already. Why the need for a submarine may I ask add the shipwrecks and buff the diving suit making it a viable option for sea exploration. I can't help but feel there is one person on the dev team that wants to add laser beams and rockets to every project that person encounters. I have a cure for that hand that person a pc buy them a copy of No Man's Sky tell them to make that game better. Problem solved we could get back to what the player base actually wants which is simple. Ships that work properly crew that work properly tames that work properly and an environment that works properly. You shouldn't have to go searching for tames when you log on because they teleported while you was offline. Your crew should not hop off the weapons unless you tell them to (Including those moments when your tames and or crew go floating off into god only knows where in the heavens while still in the mounted station position.) and there should be a way to easily assign crew to a station so you can hit a button wherever they are on the ship they can return to that station. When something is clearly out of range your crew shouldn't fire at it. Larders ammunition boxes and resource boxes should attach to the ship in the same way you shouldn't need multiples of each to cover your ship. Ballista spears need more speed and range you can fire a ballista alongside of a Galleon with six upgraded speed sails at 25% weight and they will go the same speed and they barely travel the length of a Galleon. Ship parameters are way out of proportion one click into accommodations, survivability or crew should reward the same results no matter what ship one click = one crewman, 10% more survivability or one hour longer added to pay period weight added should depend on what ship it is. Starting weight on all ships needs to be buffed in general If you upgrade the planks on any of your ships you cant haul enough weight to keep them repaired due to natural decay and cyclone encounters which I have had an entire Galleon with journeyman planks front to back destroyed by two back to back cyclone storms in the same grid. (For those wanting to say carry resources in your box the entirety of my resources was 20000 wood 35000 thatch 35000 fiber 5000 metal 1000 hide and 1500 gold.) I had two players on my Galleon repairing during the first storm the second storm hit less than a minute later and destroyed all we had repaired. Ship plank hp compared to resources required to repair are in desperate need of reworking you pay the punishment in upgrading planks when you craft them you shouldn't need to be punished so harshly every time you take a little damage. Bottom line fixing what is there is what is needed not adding more crap that don't work.

I don't even know how to check what games you play. I really don't care to be honest. How do you want to discuss abusing system if you are not sure how it actually works? You want game to be played without griefing and yet you write here about you spamming pillars to rocks if owner of settlement won't allow you to build there. When we know how it actually works we can talk about ways how to abuse that system. Not before.
  43. 1 point
Firstly it cant be "personally" if it is the opinion of everyone you have played with, unless of course you don't have your own opinions, but then it would be "Based of the opinion of all those I have played with, I have decided that.......". However my point is that not everyone hates the vitamin system. Personally I like it. It is well balanced and adds to the game play, as it ensures that you have to farm the right foods and learn the right skills to make sure you can survive properly. Based on what I have read from various commentators, it is my opinion that the reason you don't like the vitamin system is because you don't want to ""Waste"" skill points levelling the Vitamin protection up, but would rather spend the points on what you feel improves your style of game-play. After all why spend skill points on preventing vitamin decay when you could punch harder, or learn how to make cannons, etc. Dude, its part of the game. If you wish the max out on weapons and PVP based skills then fine, but then you suffer on the survival skills. Stop bitching about the fact that the game is not what you want, and accept that they are trying to make a balanced survival game that can be played and enjoyed by the maximum demographic, and not just by a bunch of Gung-ho PVPers who want nothing more that to destroy or dominate all other players. Realise that this game is a balance of PVP and PVE, and is meant to be played as such. Like EVERYTHING in life, good games are about finding a balance.

Your completely right, i was hoping they would stop going in the direction they where. After i see the update i am pretty sure i wont return to the game. If i wanted to play ark again i can install it. There is so much potential to make a real pirate game without massive pve content. Some yes, building trees etc but this is the same setup as ARK and if these guys dont do it someone else will. We lost way to many, that didn't like the grinding to pvp. Cant say anymore on it, pretty much what you said is true.

There are a lot of people that don't want both(pirates and tames) because it becomes the meta for pvp. For example, let's say you really want to live the pirate life and not focus on taming. You have a boat, you have a base and you don't have any tames. And then another group of players attack your base(not while you're offline) with 6 high level, mounted bears with carts. If they are competent players and you don't have any tames to fight their bears then you will not be able to kill them(they will just keep re-healing.) I have seen this happen many times and I have been on both sides of it. This forces players(you don't have any choice if you don't want to get wiped) to have to tame certain creatures just to survive in this mmo. If they keep adding more creatures with unique abilities(something that alters mounted creature strategies) then it will also increase the amount of tames we need for land based combat. This makes the game far less enjoyable for people that don't like taming and want to focus on their boats. A game like this is supposed to give us options, lots of different ways to play. Whenever the developers introduce new items/creatures/mechanics that force us to play a certain way it feels restrictive. Honestly I think all tames need to be nerfed to the point that they are usless in pvp and people just use them for gathering.

As long as the Devs are making the new content more sea based it's all good They need to get away from. Tames this isn't ark , More ships , more ways to customise them , more sea based areas , more sea monsters STOP WITH ADDING MORE LAND TAMES AND LAND CONTENT ,AND CONCENTRATE ON SEA BASED ADVENTURE CONTENT

Thanks. Using the time before wipe to learn how things work, how to find the different resources, and generally just enjoying having the place to myself(for the most part. I've seen 2 other players on rafts since I started. I considered sinking them, but there was no reason to and it would not have been a challenge).
