We've gone ahead and will be disabling the option to raze islands on PvE. Structure spam is still an issue, and one we would like to resolve but we recognize the problems this causes on a PvE network, in particular to settlers who have been living under the guise that their bases would be safe following the initial structure-placement timer. We'll keep on reading your guys' feedback and consider ourselves more suitable ways to approach this. This patch also introduces a change where island owners can place down more tax banks around their island, to help encourage other settlers who live there to contribute to the upkeep cost. There's a lot of fair and valid feedback here, but there are also some unnecessary remarks towards one another. Remember, it's okay to have a different opinion and share it folks, but keep things civil

    1. Welcome to the forums. 2. Your case is presented very well. I think you have a particularly strong point about the cost of renting a dragon vs the cost of this nuke being out of proportion to their relative power. I have not seen anyone bring it up. 3. I second Realist that your post deserves some attention so I will help draw a crowd. *juggles fruit*

I swear to dog I’m tired of answering this same misconception in game after game after game. The people who create new content and the people who do code optimization are not the same people and do not have interchangeable skill sets. It is not an either or proposition. Doing less new content will not result in more optimization, just less content. Furthermore, they have done a lot of optimization. Check the patch notes. I see a marked difference in performance from the first couple of months. Is there still plenty to do? Sure, tons. But they aren’t sitting on their thumbs when it comes to optimization as you imply. Finally any MMO which does not produce new content dies hard. It’s axiomatic in the industry. So producing new content is imperative.

I'm not even sure what this "work" actually is? I mean from my view an island owner: a) Gets upto 20% FREE resources from anyone, settlers and visitors that farm on the island - no work required for land owner. b) Gets upto 20% of FREE gold obtained from from treasure maps that anyone, settlers and visitors dig up, and they themselves lose that 20% gold as it is not additive like resources - no work required for land owner. c) Have to pay gold upkeep for the land claim - well settlers and visitors support that by digging up treasure maps, also the land owner makes their own decision to claim an island and therefore accepts that responsibility. d) Land owners have a responsibility, if they chose to do so, to monitor the island and clean up any mess or spam made with 24 hours of placement. Again, they chose this responsibility when they claim land and they do not have to carry out that activity unlike paying the claim flag it is not a necessity. So really i'm struggling to see where land owners do all the work?

I have a wonderful suggestion for you. Imagine if you will, that there was a place where you and your like minded play all day friends could go where you’d have complete control of any island you wanted. You would never be troubled with pesky tenants and their eyesore spam. Even better, you could with a stroke rid yourself of the deadwood of all your inactive company members and their useless tames. Gone like the detritus of your Atlas life that they are, you would finally be free to play in blissful pristine conditions unsullied by lesser beings who must bow to the demands of the lives of mere mortals. No longer troubled by even the hint of their loathsome presence, you could bask in the superiorness of your hard earned property rights unfettered by cares for free loading peasants. For you and your kind, this place is far superior to the unsightly filth of official servers, yet in form and appearance it is identical, merely the offensive presence of those who have not your focus, your dedication, your absolute devotion to...whatever it is that you do for every waking moment of your life spent in game. Where can I find such a celestial paradise, you ask? Nay it is not a mirage. No mere whim of fantasy or idle daydream. I give you.... Non dedicated servers! Coming Soon.

If I ever -for what ever reasons- decide to leave my ship and take a swim in the ocean, it's very rare that more than five or six sharks instantly spawn around me. They are ridiculously underpowered too - they need two or even three bites at my ass before I'm dead!! And after I'm dead I sometimes- even when the sharks camp my lootbag, as they should - manage to get my loot with less than ten tries! How's that a challenging and fun gameplay? Another problem is after killing a SoD ship when I (covardly suited in diving suit) jump into the ocean to recruit new crew members I sometimes manage to move them on to my ship before they get eaten by a shark. Luckily most of the times when I kill a whale that gets eaten by sharks with any possible gold before I get change to overload my ship with gold coins. So clearly there are not enough sharks in the sea and they are not OP enough! Can we have more, bigger ones, possibly with lasers?

He has to log in, walk over to a resource box, grab gold, and put it in the flag. It's very labor intensive. 15hrs a day apparently.
  9. 2 points
So either these "previous owners" and "freeloaders" are active players, or you are talking out your ass because they took away the PVE nuke option and you are unhappy you don't get to grief. Because if you were an island owner, you would know that "garbage" disappears after 10 days of not being rendered in by the company that placed it. So stuff that stays is being refreshed by active players.

Very good points. I will help you out a little to get closer attention since you are new here. @Jatheish This guy seems very concerned, gave pretty good points, and wanted to become part of the community.

Can this be disabled for PvP too please? With this change any company that has built on claimed land can potentially lose all they have ever built if they lose control of their claim flag. Offline raids are bad enough already, but at least currently it still takes some effort to wipe every single structure off an island. This nuke does not even require to demolish large buildings or even attack most outposts. You just need to capture the claim flag area - which is often itself not even defended, hold it for a few days, and anything that anyone has ever built on the island can be instanuked. This includes safe caches on mountaintops, secret stashes below the water line, all harbours, pens, stables, houses, farms, forts, turrets, buildings, paths, really everything. It has an enormous griefing potential and will be used in 9 out of 10 cases to wreck months of work instead of combating pillar spam. Any reasonable company will now relocate to lawless as with this change constant war is still safer than the risk of getting nuked - this single, small change is that bad. I agree that overcoming pillar spam is important, but this change is a typical case of throwing the baby out with the bathwater. By combating pillar spam, all structures have just been made irrelevant in claimed areas on PvP servers as no matter what defences you build, if the enemy gets to control the claim flag, they can wipe everything you ever achieved in the game without a single gunshot. Also, 12K gold is about a week's worth of upkeep for a 5 man company. It takes very little effort to obtain. A solo player farming common treasure maps makes about 1k gold an hour, and it just goes up from there. The money cost is far too low compared to the immense power it holds, as its by far the single strongest attack in the game. Renting a dragon costs 20k and its damage is negligible compared to this nuke. I registered on this forum to make this single post, I am hoping it gets read by the relevant people even though I understand the chance for this is rather low.

Single player map (not solo). Game has played with few issues until now. Played ok this morning but when I came to log back in this afternoon, the game just constantly crashes. I select single player get to the screen where you can set the parameters for the game, click on play and screen goes to loading screen, goes black and then back to loading screen. (This is what I normally see). Then the game just crashes back to desktop. No crash report is generated, (last one was generated several days ago). Apart from deleting all the single player data and restarting I can not see a way past this point. Multiplayer game plays ok without problem so its only related to the single player game.

Please let animals turn in place, without having to move forwards. It would make moving them around in tight spaces, or on ships much easier. Imagine if ships could only turn when moving forward. They would be so frustrating to use as to be almost unusable.

I really like the idea of WPE, that is something I was hoping since almost the beginning of the game, awesome it will be added. Though, I came with an idea : Make different kind of WPE, make a "company like" Here is the idea, instead of having everytime the same WPE but with different difficulty/size, make different WPE Company, with each their own skins/flags/constructions type. Here are some fast exemples : Blackbeard company : Pirate theme, pirate skins (Cloth and Hide armors), weapon : pistol/saber/throwing knives, special tactics : like to board, use Harpoon, mainly alone at sea, very aggressive. Royal Navy company : Marine theme, officer skin, weapon : pistol/saber (or special skin ?)/carabin, special tactics : mainly in groups, defensive. Asian company : Asian theme (japanese ?), Hydra Heavy skin, the new sail skin, weapon : sword (katana skin?)/pike/bow/crossbow/fire arrow, special tactics : like to use fire a lot (...) WPE Company would fight eachothers at sea, some kind of special event. Make the WPE Company live in their own region, so you need/want to travel a lot to discover every of theses WPE Company. All thoses region would become even more unique. Having to fight the same type of WPE everytime will become veryyyy boring. If their is many WPE Company, it will become unique everytime (I'm not saying that it needs 1 company per island, hell no, but 1 company per region would be very awesome) (edit : By region I mean "Tropics", "Desert", "Tundra"). Let us participate to create/image thoses WPE Company As we all know, some of Atlas players are very talented to create/imagine, just look at the Show 'N' Tell and see how awesome things emerge from it. Make a contest like the Show 'N' Tell, where people would give : Company name Theme Flag (with image) Construction design exemple (with image) Ship design exemple (with image) Lore/story behind the company For the more talented one, draw all the concept art if it doesn't already exist in the game, and if it's really awesome, implement it in the game with Atlas Team (dunno how hard it could be ?) The contest would work as a Show 'N' Tell, people send their proposition, and as for Show 'N' Tell, that's the Atlas Team that choose the winners. (so no troll as "Area 51 with Naruto Runners flags, even if it's funny, that's not the point here. It also let the Atlas Team choose to not break the actual lore of the game or everything) FURTHER Make quest through WPE Company If you completly wipe a WPE Company, you win something (dunno what, it could be a skin ? a skill ? else ?). All WPE Company have one main base with their captain (a mini-boss ?) Each outpost you destroy/claim, the more the main base become vulnerable ? Be able to interact with company ? Buy things ?

Hello Devs, hello Community. Since I read this forum (nearly daily since I play atlas) I am confused about the way you take care on your playerbase, dear devs. There are sooooo many open question in here, only you can answer. It's fine, that u use discord, twitter, forum, facebook, letter-doves, smoke signals and many more other platforms. But in my example, I just read the forum, because I'm already an old man. Do you only get an hour/week for the q&a in the official forum? That would explain why there are so many open threads only waiting for an answer or a statement. Please take a little more care on your playerbase on your official website. It's the only real way, where we can get proper informations. I don't want to wait two days until maybe a player post a answer u gave on twitter or in the discord. Don't let a huge amount of people who keep playing your beautiful game stand alone with the feeling of getting lost. Sry for my English.

<quote src=""patchnotes.210.2"> - Settlement Owners can place down multiple banks on their island, so settlers can supply it to help upkeep with gold </quote> 1. I'm curious, on PvP, can you crrently run around on your island with a hammer and repair your stuff using resources directly from the bank? If the answer is YES, nr. 2 is not important. 2. In case actual decay (health going down over time) of land structures ever becomes a thing and the bank takes care of that using not only gold but actual resources, will tennants be allowed to throw resources in the bank (following todays change that they are allowed to throw gold in)? Cause, if they will be able to, then the bank owner surely should be able to. And since we now can have multiple banks on an island it would provide easy distributed access to those resources. In PvE nr. 2 will give us convenience without loss of gameplay, but in case nr. 1 is answered with NO, the nr. 2. changes the game in PvP.

yeah it is not easy to balance. of course one would have to place valuable boxes in buildings of reasonable size where it is very costly to remove a part or there might be a limit and parts cannot be removed once a building has reached a certain size or is considered a complete building. at least it would work on smaller obstacles that serve no real use since the fast decay system can already detects those structures. i thought about a timer as well but the issue with this is that most foundation spammers are online every day and often live on the same island as the person they try to annoy on the PVE network. if they log in every day and place new foundations there needs to be a way to remove them quicker than they can place them and at the same time it needs to be more difficult to remove something like an active player base than it takes to build said base to balance things at least a little bit. also a timer remove on PVE would mean players go on vacation and loose all their stuff to an free action for the current landlord which was a similar feature removed already earlier. but yeah they could instead allow to pay the upkeep for the flag with basic resources instead of gold to reduce the gold sinks. but as it stands everything will likely be gold based in the end for obvious reasons
  22. 1 point
Try reading what the maps say. They say "Treasure contains at least XX Gold." This means they may contain more. But to really test it try it on a 20% island. But the fact anyone on this forum that plays PvE can confirm what I say it's not really necessary to test.

Now that I know the game mechanic is balanced to meat/fish when hungry and only use veggies and fruit when full I have minimized my overeating damage while still balancing vitamins - there is no need to hasten food drain to allow you to eat more vitamins. Now the problem is still that you eat unrealistically much - 6 meat 6 fish and 30 veggie and 30 fruit if fully drained. To balance that I am trying stamina drain slowed down by half, as I found that modest activity this results in the more realistic daily allowance (RDA) of 1 meat and 1 fish to get full then overeat 5 veggie and 5 fruit. This also increases your food reserves so that you can go many days before starving to death (accurate per IRL where hunger strikes are a thing - it is lack of water that kills you). I think it is realistic that if energy is expended that you will have to increase your daily allowance. With this setting I scythed continuously for an in-game hour before getting tired, if you did maintain that rate for a solid work day then you would be eating a weeks worth of meals in a day, will need to see if overeating vitamins is then a problem - but I think that is unrealistic for someone to work so hard when they could just get a bear. Now the problem gets worse that vitamins drain too fast as less stamina drain means you eat less vitamins, , so my next approach is to balance their decay rate so that eating the RDA keeps vitamins at 50%. Water they at least got right - 1-2 waterskins a day depending on heat waves is realistic IRL.

This or large island should be broken up into territories. That would definitely give more opportunity for PvP as companies could then fighting for full control over large islands. I'll be honest, big islands have been disappointing as a lot of the ones I ventured around pre-Wipe had an unexpected lack of diversity when it came to resources. A lot of empty space and not a lot of reason to build on them.
  25. 1 point
Larger companies should be incentivized to hold larger islands, but right now that isn't the case. The biggest islands just aren't worth the trouble. If they offered More diverse resources (say the 100+ point islands had 2 or even 3 variants of resources), allowed a higher tax rate (30, 40%), had a higher chance of maps spawning, or better map quality (to give more passive gold generation), really anything. But right now, holding 2 smaller islands, to get resource variety, drastically outweighs the value of holding one bigger one. I've been saying for a long time that the game needs more carrots and fewer sticks, but in this case, I think I'm more in favor of the stick. It's simpler and it doesn't hand yet another reward to bigger companies. Why not just give everyone enough points for an island that's appropriate for their company size, and then limit them to that size or larger? Just don't let big companies claim a bunch of small islands. It has the added benefit of showing clearly how big each type of population is in the game and would help for adding islands that are the right size and not just randomly distributed.

Thanks Jat, like other have said, actualy more thank you posts i've never seen. Pillar / foundation spam is a problem, and I would love to see a solution, I believe it's going to be a complicated solution, and as you can see people give feedback when they see a problem. I'm just sorry I can't suggest an easy solution. I'd also like to thank Martyn, wether intentional or not, posts like that below clearly showing a willingness to seriously negatively impact other players on PVE. You showed the dev's what people could do with that system.

Thanks @Jatheish for reverting the change to the raze mechanic on PvE, and thank you to @Dollie for taking the time to listen to us and take notes from this discussion (I say discussion loosely because it did get unnecessarily heated at times). I do apologise for my personal behaviour, and not making any excuses for it but I do love Atlas which is why i've dedicated as much time as I can over the last 4 months since wipe and would rather not lose all that progress due to another player in PvE. I'd also like to thank the Devs for not having the same attitude as this, which is one reason why things got so heated because the casual players of PvE, which lets face it is what it is often designed for constantly got told they don't have a right to comment. So i'm glad the majority in this debate were listened to. As for the spam situation, I'm fully aware of the difficult situation it presents, and I'm hopeful that other less destructive solutions will come in the future. Long Live PvE!

I [hope] know the economy is the last thing on your priorities list atm but you guys really need to get rid of skill requirements for equipment. Unless you honestly expect everyone to conform to the same choice of skills just to be able to equip gear, yet alone improve it, these requisites are redundant and only hinder opportunities for trade. BP's are not a rare commodity. Level should not artificially limit your access to acquire or use equipment, only the ability to craft it. Skill points are currently handed out like Skittles on Halloween so it's easy to dismiss this as a non-issue. But it is... Considering the pirate theme this should be all the more obvious. How many times in PVP have players raided equipment only to find out they need a dozen levels just to use it? How many PvE Players have been disappointing to find out the only real commodities are Gold and Mats? So much for all these BP's with extra crafts we're never going to use and there's no market for... our allies can't use them yet and by the time they can they'll have accrued their own collection. By removing these requirements you open the door for all kinds of new ways to distribute rewards. Chests could have a chance to give you the actual item for example instead of the BP. The best part being you can actually use it! TL:DR: If you must insist on these Studies skills please change them to function as "Enables CRAFTING of [Quality] [Item(s)]" instead of enables use. *Edited for clarity

Prove it. See you can't.. why? Because most guesses are actually right. Statistics are just avgs taken out of context. There's a difference. I have seen, perfect ships sitting on the seabed. Not a single damaged plank. How'd they get there? How did it happen? Magic? Doesn't happen much now tho.. ships just go "" and that's it. One is there one moment.. then it isn't. Just gone. No wreck, no flotsam.. just water.
  35. 1 point
Didn't even realize this was a thing tbh. You should display this on the UI like every other container of water and maybe increase it's capacity beyond a single use.
  36. 1 point
Thank you, Jat. It's always heartwarming to see our feedback given real consideration. As for further feedback, may I suggest a simple blacklist? To my mind, when a company is added to the list it wouldn't remove any structures currently on the island but would prevent new structures being placed. Some have previously suggested a whitelist but I feel a blacklist would better preserve the "build-anywhere" nature of the game. It would not help with spam that already exists, and regrettably I do not have a solution for that, but it would help island owners to curb the more troublesome companies.
  37. 1 point
I would have no problem with gear being level gated as it is in other games. I have a huge problem with having to be able to craft a thing as a prerequisite for being able to use the thing as it destroys any notion of a crafting component to an economy. If you must be able to make the thing in order to use it, why would you ever bother to buy it from someone else? Gating gear access behind quests is a negative, but not as bad depending upon the difficulty of the quest.
  38. 1 point
So you decide to buy that hypothetical island, Why? You did not say it was full of spam, just active PVE players doing PVE things. And you want to destroy all their buildings, wipe out all their gathered resources, that Martyn is a PVP attitude, and does not belong on a PVE server. A PVE server should have rules and mechanisms to keep things in check, not bull-headed players that like to see other peoples stuff go pop.

But the point of eating meat until full then veggies is still valid ! You can eat more meat which brings up your vitamins more if you are not eating veggies when hungry. So there is less need to shout. farmed veggies still have significantly less food contribution to overeating (0.2F instead of 5F if hungry) unlike meat/fish which does not lessen food contribution when overeating. In other words that is a 25x increase in the ratio of vitamins to food. So the farmed veggies just mean you need to eat less than the wild ones, but both types of veggies work for vitamin balancing when full. Yes you still need to drain stamina when sailing to keep up your vitamins because then there is not enough food drain. But the point I am making is that the fruit and veggies are basically no to little cost to food if you just pay attention to the order you eat them.

Maybe if the encampment can spawn on occupied islands but only spawns a large distance from any structures. (pillar/foundation spam might prevent this on some islands - that'd be working as intended then)

Mad Max in B11 (Barter Town and Barter World) and H4 (Arakis) are safe. This should never have been the option at these prices - won't comment on PvP but PvE should have been a bunch more expensive or should have been that price per company to erase or a better option would have been a list of structure collections with check boxes - would not have been a very long list - that could be selected for destruction. By structure collection I mean structure with the same components ignoring layout so a floor plus a pillar plus a ceiling would be a single entry in the list regardless of what order they were placed / built and how many there were of them. Ideally the list would show how many of each collection there were and the number of pieces in the collection. This would quickly show the spam collections (high count of collections with low component count) vs base buildings (low / single count of collection with high component count).
