The game is not set on Earth, so these are not conventional pirates. What lore I have seen refers to an advanced civilization that lost a lot of technology, but which is slowly going to recover it. From the Atlas Wiki: "Long-ago, far above the watery world of ATLAS there once existed a magic-powered “Golden Age”-- where great Empires of the Sky lived at peace alongside magical creatures, flourishing upon floating continents above the clouds, all powered by a magical source of energy known as the Heart of the Goddess, granted by the powerful beings who dwell in the stars beyond...." and the final bit... "If the latest generation of Pathfinders can outwit and outgun Xevos and his legions, and recover the Heart pieces for themselves, they will be faced with the very same choice: whether to attempt to restore the old world, or build a new better one…" So, you have two choices - learn to like it or change games, essentially.

Come on Devs. FOR YEARS IN ARK WE ASKED FOR A CHOICE OF GATES, AND YOU WOULDN'T GIVE US THEM. I am sick and tired of having to build structures that are either TOO SMALL or stupidly OVERSIZED, just to fit the gates. Please give us a selection of Gates, or implement the DYNAMIC GATE from the S+ MOD from Ark. Its not difficult and can be implemented quickly. It would also stop so many shit oversized building having to be made. Which in turn will reduce the lag on the servers. WIN WIN WIN. Come on Devs start using some common sense, you've made a great game so far, but implementing Dynamic gates would make total sense. Give the players what they need. Sorry if this sounds aggressive but I love designing good buildings, but can because of the lack of gate choices I am limited to having to build massive ridiculous barns to incorporate the behemoth gate.

When you have a ceiling hatch that is one wall high, it won't let you place it because it collides with the floor. Needs fixed. Book shelf requires you to place first, and then place the ceiling over it, if the room is one wall high, such as on a ship. I would like to see the basic building structures be put into a separate category in the code, to allow it to collide with the terrain. Having played on both ARK and Atlas unofficial servers that allow this, I assure you that it makes building much more pleasant to do. Also allows for less structures as you often have to use more structures to find work arounds to the collision issue when you run into those spots that just won't allow a structure to be placed, where you need them to be placed to complete the structure. I totally understand that you don't want every structure to be able to collide, but those issues were largely solved in S+. For instance, while you could mostly bury a vault into terrain, or other structures, when you did so, you could no longer access the inventory, negating the exploit.

So with all the talk and excitement about this upcoming patch that will ruin PVP servers I'd also like to point out a serious flaw in this game that has been with us for quite a while now and that is the ship variety or rather lack of. For a game that prides itself on being a naval game there is depressingly only 3 ships worthy of choosing from when it comes to naval combat. There is the Schooner which is fast but more fragile, the Brigantine which is less fast and the Galleon which is both fast and strong but more expensive. As a result naval combat after a while feels a bit like deja vu you feel you have already seen all this before. This is also not helped by the fact that in addition to 3 ships we have the incredible variety of just two cannons to select from. What is troubles me about this I have yet to see a single post from the developers acknowledging the problem and certainly none saying they will be adding more variety.

I hope they will include an offline mode like in Ark so we can play while waiting for their servers or for future problem they will have through the development!

Hello! Network: all Grid: all Description of issue: After every Atlas update i get around 15 fps when i usually get around 55 fps in game also the menu fps drops down to around 80fps when i usually get above 300fps Any screenshots or video demonstrating the bug: no Repro steps if available/applicable: every time Atlas gets an update i get this problem and i fix it with uninstalling my GPU driver and reinstalling it again also updating my driver also works. have to do this every time atlas gets an update. not a big deal but it is getting a little annoying. also did a clean install of Altas on different drives and did not work. That worked somehow for me. - Join PvP server, at char creation, manually crash the game - Join PvE server (original), selected F4, where my char is supposed to be (anyway i guess it will 'find' where you are on the grid - Appeared actually quite fast but in E4 border - guess i logged off on the brig I haf on F4 and drove back with other char to E5 through E4 - Died in water then popped in E5 where my main base is for now - Logged off and back on to be sure, now getting the GetSoilPhysMat crash .. some other ppl are having that issue on some regions. Will do a +1 on that bug report. So work-around to that timeout pop-up looping issue is as Ameesa described. Will try to remember to log off with soil under my feet .

There are some shallow water areas that are inside the green circle of protection of my island. I can anchor the ship (sloop) but is not protected by the peace timer. Even structures show a decay of 10 days. The green circle in mini map should protect everything inside or should indicate what is protected. I don't understand how something inside the green area is not protected. Its confusing. What is the point of having a visual indicator in the map. if is not accurate and you have to walk around the island looking at the top right screen if you have tax or say the name of the region.
  11. 1 point
Yes thats the bug in PVE for my understanding! v100.31 - Max Tax rate on PvE set to 20%, and is only additive on PvE (doesn't reduce the taxee's resources)

If there Wasnt a claim System i would definitly stop playing. Lawless Islands Are a mess And just looking at how they Spammed Gates etc. Kills the atmosphere of the Game. Glad we have an Island And a bunch of awesome settlers.

Multiple people in my company are being kicked for no reason, and can't re-log. Server unresponsive to commands... EG: telling an NPC to follow... try to relog stalls out... come back in like 5-10 minutes works fine... then does it again randomly. The server unresponsiveness didn't happen until a group of 10ish Chinese entered grid and were spamming BOX BOX BOX... dunno if there is a new dupe... or what... just find it pretty ironic... Also find it funny that the forums have nobody reporting this issues... Guess thats what we get for catering to PVE kids.

Hi all, for sanity sake & sanity check - wanted to highlight this. Especially prevalent last night & Saturday. Curious if anyone else get this. Three of us took the brig for some treasure hunting, and whilst sailing, each of us at random times fell through the hull of the boat. I think one of the triggers may be using stair case / ramp stairs with the boat moving. We never saw this on a static boat, and never saw this whilst either using the ship wheel, or, sitting on a boat asset such as a chair. You effectively phase, and see the boat travel through you, you phase through the walls, objects and boat assets. You're left treading water in the ocean as the boat sails off infront of you. It's certainly annoying, not particularly game breaking for us specifically as we're on PvE, but I can see it being quite inconvenient during PvP. Just wanted to mention it! Keep up the good work GS guys.

Switching over to PvP Join new / pve Join new ( don't create new char! ) can help. But in my experience this is a server-side problem and it only helps to wait and see and drink tea.

If you have a wall visable through the floor at the top of some stairs you can slide on it, on a ship it can chuck you out the back. Check your ship constuction, that could be the issue.

that awfull outlaws game has it..im sure the devs mates over at that game will chuck them a few strings of code

@DollieI am building a base in PvE server. The issue I am having is the base is 25 x 30. all stone floors (Foundations) In the center of the base I cannot put ceilings. Unless the ceiling is within 6 tiles of the wall* and attached to said wall the ceiling tile will not snap and gives the error of needing a foundation. The wall is only 6 Wall tiles high from the floor. The other place i see the error is near the large gates. since the gate is 10 tiles wide, the there is 3 tiles that are not covered because there is no wall there only a gate. ceilingtileissue-sm-bmp.bmp

I really don't see a downside yet to owning an island. Before the patch with random claims, I would go from island to island never finding a single spot that I could claim for my own. Now, I'm seeing islands that haven't been claimed yet. Before the patch, I was on lawless, having 4 day decay timers before random players could destroy anything I built. It meant I had to log in once every 4 days. Now, I own an island and have enough gold to cover 22 days. Perhaps I'm playing the game wrong, but owning an island on PvE is pretty sweet.

Assumption that disagreeing parties are 12 year olds only serves to raise the question of your own maturity and whether you can handle the knowledge that other adults may have different views than your own.

I suggest you move to a lawless. That will give perspective on the benefit of having an island.

But if he’s making new dishes and you tell people they’re the old dishes without having actually eaten them, why should people take you seriously on that?

According to Isaac Asimov, the defining difference between sci fi and fantasy is sci fi’s grounding in science, meaning it is theoretically possible, while fantasy, which is not grounded in reality, is not. Going by that guideline I would consider fantasy the better descriptor of Atlas than sci fi. Also after 4K hours of Ark, I am of the opinion Atlas is not Ark. It shares some mechanics and more than a few assets, but there are significant differences and Atlas has core mechanics and design concepts that make it different enough from Ark that I regard it as it’s own game. This is largely a matter of subjective opinion so as always ymmv, but it would be nice if you owned and played said game before making those kinds of assertions. Doing so is a bit of the man who has never eaten at the restaurant holding forth on how good the chef is. It is hard to take his view of the matter seriously.

Like I said before this is ark. Tek is the last thing needed to become completely ark. laughing at the people giving excuses for putting tek in a pirate game. Yeah. It’s ark. If he doesn’t want ark he shouldn’t be playing this

Look guys, it’s really pretty simple. Atlas was never going to be just a pirate game in the same way that Ark was never just Dino’s. Yet there is a certain segment of the playerbase that likes to insist this is the case in the face of definitive evidence to the contrary. These people buried their head in the sand and insisted the devs “ruined” Ark by shoehorning Tek in after the fact, ruining their enjoyable Dino game and justifying their table flipping. In doing so they willfully ignored the giant floating obelisks in the sky and the decidedly not primitive implant in their wrist which is literally the very first thing any player sees when spawning in. These things were in the game from day one and proof Ark was never just Dino’s. In the same vein folks are now insisting Atlas is being ruined by magic, steampunk, torpedos, submarine etc etc. Anyone is entirely free to dislike these game elements. They are also free to quit playing because of that dislike. What they aren’t free to do is claim they were misled about what Atlas would be. The description on the steam store page makes it clear this isn’t just pirates. For anyone failing to read the store page thoroughly and comprehend correctly what it meant, the flying ship on these forums masthead, the hydra, cyclops and other fantasy creatures featured in the game’s pre launch trailer are hard to miss. tl:dr version: You don’t have to like it, just don’t piss and moan all over my leg and tell me it’s the devs making it rain when they said it would be sunshine. The facts are not in your favor.

Two days ago i was not able to craft wood ceilings. Login/logout won't do. I tried to fast travel from one bed (region A) to another (region B) and back to original region. I was able to craft again. Seems sometimes moving to other region/server would reinitialize things. At least that worked for me.

The torpedo, the submarine, the gears on the hook skin, the steam boat NPC with wheels on the sides.... For me, the game is clearly aimed at a future steampunk aesthetic. And i love it.

Maybe you've never noticed the globe on the loading screen. Does that look like Earth to you? I admire YOUR imagination accepting characters casually rising from the dead and being able to teleport huge distances from one island to another. I bet 17th Century Earth pirates did that routinely...

was told the wiki wasn't ran by the dev team at all, because if it was? it was listed as a pirate game. We had this conversation before when i brought that out. Its just a version of ARK, advanced ware fare items added to the game. I was hoping the crabs and more tames where not a thing, but seeing this just made me sick... Id rather invest in someone elses game now to be honest, going to finish off with a friend the existing client then poof i am outta here.
  35. 1 point
Er, yes they do. Check the Wiki, then maybe go away and find the historical pirate simulation you are looking for. This isn't it.

Little play-day so not much for today but... ...I BROUGHT A GOOD NEWS! 1st abandoned ship near our base IS GONE! So the system with decay of abandoned ships working! (I don't think the owner decided to get his ramshake back). Decay time is around 2 weeks. 17) - Today I lost one of my crew member. We were on our swimming from Schooner to my new Brig and suddenly pay period came. Guy just stopped underwater so near to my Brig, so I just couldn't get him a gold. His head was inside a Brig and body - underwater. Game counted this as underwater state, and because guy was so close to ship, "E" didn't do anything. I tried all sides from underwater. I tried from inside Brig. Then his oxygen out and he died. My point is - DEVs should change this so if guy underwater and suddenly payday hit him, he should move himself up to surface. Right now this looks childish and stupid like "I need money right now and I'll stay RIGHT THERE until I get what I deserve". And he stays - no mater what. I mean... if there would be a volcano in game, guys could stop there in the middle of it as well right?

You need to die. After resp - all must work well. Things happening with different construction from time to time. (I once couldn't create wooden wall, while guy in my island couldn't create smithy).

Weird and completely counterproductive to economy, since you can't make things to sell to other people that they can use without being able to craft the thing themselves. People like to talk about how cooking is useless, but afaik right now it is literally the only crafting tree that allows you to make things others can use that they can't craft for themselves, since everyone can eat. As far as I can tell this is completely nonsensical design unless the devs are wanting to test craft and use independently of craft and sell or craft for guild for some bizarre reason.

    12) - Just wanna make sure DEVs reading this - ships randomly throw players to the ocean. Imagine I fight high lvl SotD's they do a leaks in my ship and I CAN NOT MOVE, I can not go to repair it because if I do so - there is a huge risk I'll find myself into the ocean and my ship will stop. That's what actually happened. I mentioned it here. I can't find a words how mad I'm about the situation. I built a Brig, then lost it to the bug (it hit invisible wall near whale and the only way out was actually through the whale). Then I built a Brig to my brother. Then he lost it when game crushed. Then I built Brig to my brother. Then I built a Brig for myself and I lost it in a link above. And guess what? I'm building another Brig. I'm not here to play Brig Constructor, you know? BTW, asking to players-guys. Any advice - how to build a ship design to minimize risk being thrown to waters? 13) - Somehow I can not hire more then 9 crew. After that new member just wont appear until those I hired already hit lvl-2 or higher. After I up them, I can hire new members, but this limit - 9 lvl-1 crew is always there. Not sure if things are planed like that for some purpose, or this is just a bug as well? 14) - After I hire crew - they stays in following state for ever. Even if I put them to ship stations - they stays in "following" state. I need to unseat them and then hit "behavior -> disable following" twice. 15) - If I put Alloy to resources box, it wont shows up in my repair-hammer resources window. It correctly shows all resources I have in box, but alloys stays at "0". Cannons are repairable with hammer anyway, even if it shows red "0" alloys 16) - And few words about foggy Tundra. I fine with all weather challenge, but there is just too much of fog. It's happen 3-5 times per day. It's like that: - I enter H2 for treasure. After a minute - fog landed. - I get to the island, and fog is gone. - I get treasure, went back to the ship - new fog wave landed. - I sail to another island for treasure, and fog is gone before my arrival. - I was digging my 2nd treasure - when 3rd wave of fog landed. - I got my business ashore, gather resources, refill vitamins, and when fog is gone - I departured. - Before I hit the border 4th wave of fog landed... I was in my I2 region and checked for just regular weather making notes to my notepad and guess what? I checked 24h period an clear weather lasts for just 7 ingame hours. All other 17 hours was fog (x4), rain (x1), coldwave (x1). snowfall (x1). (I count heatwave in Tundra as comfort regular weather so I don't count this one).

Then you should stop whining about it. You made the choice to take a large island. There are many other islands that are much more manageable for a small group. If you want a big island like the large companies have, grind more or recruit more members. Don't whine on the forums about your bad decisions.

8 ) - Hmmm... yeah I've been attacked by SqotD (one of ship there was lvl-20). It happened in I3 FREEPORT (top-right corner) . Just curious - are those guys suppose to be there, or it was a buggy-bug? 9) - Crew leveling. Since the beginning - I was just couldn't get - what should I put in their stats. - Should it be health, so they will be around 130hp in their 32lvl? Why? They just keep their duty on ship, and never looses hp. - Should it be food? So they eat like and elephant at their 32lvl? But food is always in Mess Table on the ship. - Should it be oxygen? But they never go diving, just on duty to the ship. - Should it be weight? But they never carry anything. (There is a bear or horse for that). - Should it be mele-damage? But I never take them to fight. (There is a bear for that). I usually just put 2 point to food, and all other - to healht. But... well, I don't understand why lvl-system this like actually exists in game. It basically just doesn't do anything. It needs to be reworked somehow, so stats would increase ship controlling, cannon fire, or gold/food consumption aspects. And yeah - there is a bug. When crew-guy on station (sail, or gun, or steering), if you put stats in him - they doesn't show up. 10) - Little cosmetic feature I would love to see. Right now tames either wandering or staying. They stays and stays and stays for hours and hours. Imagine how difficult their life this way? So I would really LOVE to see they sitting or lying, during long periods of inactivity... how gr8 would be to see bear lying in your deck in far travels? 11) - While you on full sails and walking through the ship, it still can randomly throw you outboard.

my first brig i remember crashing into an island at full speed because i thought i could close all the sails by my lonesome without npc's in time. i was wrong. ships can fly into the sky. who would have thought. my second brig i built got blown to bits by an automatic fire ship of the damned. 5 seconds from contact with the sod, i was sunk and wishing i took my raft out instead. Ohhhh the good ol' days! I miss the excitement of not knowing what to expect.

Since the release of the PTR and 1.5 mega-update, plants will spawn through foundations. This makes any large buildings practically impossible, since trees will spawn through the building, making it look bad and hard to navigate.
  50. 1 point
It would be nice to have a gate that snapped to the rest of the building pieces. They should also drastically increase the price of gates so people don't build ugly walls out of them.
