So for months Mr know it all who has not played the game but gives advice to those that do, does not really know squat after all.

As a PVE player, this wipes all of the countless hours I have put into getting tames with good stats, breeding/imprints, etc. I have basically built my own Freeport at this point, and have regular travelers that stop by to check out my marketplace. Not to mention my fleet of painted boats. Ugh! It will be difficult for me to start over, and I am honestly unsure that I am willing to put in the time to recreate my own little place a third time. I value my time, have a consuming career, and while I understand that it is EA, this makes my stomach turn. You continue to make rash decisions catering to the fly-by players that stop by for a month to play, cry/whine/complain, and then quit. It is upsetting that you generally make all decisions based around PVP, and give little to no consideration to the PVE community. The game mechanics take days/weeks out of our lives. It is a commitment. I’ve been here since day 1, and I’ve rolled with the punches. What incentive do I have to continue supporting your product?

Ahoy Pathfinders! This Captain’s Log will cover ... nevermind -- we’re too excited, there's much on the horizon to share, so point yer prows hither and let’s get to it. The much-awaited Xbox Launch is imminent. As in, really imminent. Here’s what you need to know: ATLAS will launch into Xbox One’s Game Preview next month. ATLAS will be available for digital download on the 8th of October 2019 It will launch Day One with crossplay support allowing Steam and Xbox to play together in the same gigantic world. Complete re-bindable keyboard and mouse support for Xbox players ensures full game parity and an even playing field for all players Optional single-player and private session modes, which also makes use of the new procedural “Wild Pirate Camp” system There will be simultaneous updates and content pushes for both Xbox and PC ensuring the delivery of the same experience for Pathfinders on both platforms We’re working on getting Unofficial servers setup for Xbox Day One with Nitrado, where cross-platform can be enabled or disabled (in any direction so PC or Xbox player servers only) official network wipe After evaluating our options with the introduction of cross-platform multiplayer and a modified world map, we have decided that the best option to ensure the smoothest possible game experience is that our Official Networks undergo a data wipe on the 28th of September at 12am EST. Following the wipe, we will be permanently relaunching the NA PvP Network in order to iterate on our changes in a live-environment, following that will be the full permanent relaunch of all other networks on the 8th of October with full crossplay support (NA PvP will not wipe again on the 8th). With the upcoming major version launch this Saturday, here’s what players can expect: New world map with improved biome layout (and a new biome type) Over 70 new core island templates, and many polish improvements to existing islands Over 20 new cosmetics, and sail cosmetics Improved client and server performance Full Gamepad support "Wild Pirate Camps" option for singleplayer and non-dedicated sessions (enabled by default): take over each island across the ATLAS by attacking and claiming procedural enemy pirate camps, guarded by cannons, pirates wielding all sorts of weapons, and even powerful pirate ships! New Multi-shot Hydra Pistol Cats (with hats!) We have some more notes to come, which we’ll be sharing in full on Friday. We have opted for a rolling start in order to facilitate the best experience possible for all players on PC and Xbox. Beginning with this sole network allows us to monitor performance, make any technical adjustments necessary and resolve issues prior to the full Crossplay rollout on the 8th of October. Our decision to wipe the Networks was not made lightly and involved much deliberation and factoring in of technical aspects and the impact on our current PC players. We have made big changes to the game under the hood, revamped the world map with the addition of over 70 new, unique island templates, as well as some considerable optimization changes and limits put in place which required a full data wipe. After these sets of changes, we do not plan to wipe the network again, even with the introduction of additional platforms and new areas & islands further down our development timeline. We value and appreciate the time spent on the game and the only reason we carry out these wipes is after exhausting all possible alternatives and when they become a necessity. We truly appreciate all the support and feedback you’ve given us over the last few months and we’re excited to welcome new (as well as old) players onto the ATLAS! Structure, Tame, and Ship Limit Changes With the launch of the new network, we will be revising the following limits: ship, structure, and tame limits in order to provide players with the optimal experience. The new values are as follows: Maximum amount of structures in a 10k unit radius: 7875 Maximum amount of tames per company per gridregion: 300 (NOTE: Crew on stations no longer count towards the tame limit) Maximum amount of anchored ships per company per gridregion: 40 Maximum amount of unanchored ships per company per gridregion: 20 On The Horizon If you’re new to the ATLAS, you can cast yer one good eye over our Roadmap here: It’s important to note that this roadmap is not fully inclusive: we have a lot of other plans, content, and surprises in store for you all. We’ll be sharing more details with you as we go along. ServerGridEditor and Legacy Saves We’ve just uploaded the latest changes to our GitHub, this includes the latest json, new islands, and our updated WGE, so server owners can dive in and start making the necessary changes for the upcoming launch. It’s important to note that any savefile which used our older islands previously may have unpredictable issues after this update has been released, due to the level/technical changes that were made. We’d recommend wiping your saved data if you either used our jsons, or used our islands. For those playing on Blackwood specific saves, your data should be intact as well as those of you with completely custom islands. Github That’s it for this Captain’s Log, we look forward to sharing the ultimate pirate experience with our new crew members and continuing on our journey with our seasoned veterans (resplendent with their new fancy hats ) Happy Sailing, Grapeshot Games For the latest dispatch on #playATLAS keep yer one good eye trained on this here information Natter n' chatter on Discord: https://discord.gg/playatlas Hear ye, hear ye on Twitter: https://twitter.com/sailtheatlas Watch us scallywags on Twitch: http://twitch.tv/sailtheatlas Plus ye can band with us Pirates on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/playatlasgame

Give the players a console command/UI display or whatever to check the structure count in an area before they reach it.

I'm so Tired of getting FUCKED Over by this damn game makers. This is the third time I have to restart after building my lvl/Tames/Ect.. up. Stop fucking the players over. You should have found a way to stop screwing over the people that have been loyal to your game. You could have at least given us our levels back.

I second this. Lord knows nobody knows better than me that Realist can drive you to distraction sometimes, but he has proven to me over time that he's a fundamentally decent person, even if he seems a bit misguided at times. None of us is perfect and the best example any of us can set is to help each other out, so good for you EC (I'm not typing that long thing out).

Regarding player retention, remember that those 90 days included announcement of the first wipe. There are some xbox players with the foresight to think about how it might feel to be wiped twice in 9 or 10 months time in a survival game and it might prevent some of them from buying the game, but the devs have cleverly and transparently tried to head that off at the pass in the announcement by declaring no more wipes till release. Translation - "We only wiped those other people twice. We wouldn't do that to YOU. So, as one of the "other" people, you may understand that today is the day of pissed offedidness, and allow at least 24 hours for some righteous indignation about that. I'm glad you like islands. Truly. Personally, I like my OWN island very much. I enjoy seeing a pretty island occasionally as I travel around. Aside from that, they're scenery. I don't come to know them and appreciate each one as the individual little gem of some graphic designer's dreams. Some of them have nice mats on them. Some have good bears. I don't give them much thought on my day to day gameplay. Cats? I am currently enslaved to 5 former feral cats, which are all I could take from the colony I managed at my old house before I moved. I'm a dog person. I thought I'd be moving with 4 dogs, but it took so long they all succumbed to old age, and now I have 5 cats. Do I need more cats? In any case, I understand your approach to not scaring away the new players. Luckily there are not hordes of them here yet, if ever. They're xbobs. They'll probably be on one of the other communications channels. Your posts are being made from someone with possibly a longer timeline on this game than me, because it sounds like deciding to stay is a no-brainer for you. From my perspective, there's a decision to be made about that. Are my friends staying? Can I get my island back? Is there any other decent game to shift to? Do I have any confidence whatsoever that these developers are going to make all of this worth my while at some point? Those are the decision points. I don't expect they care, based on recent history. New people considering plunking down some cash are entitled to that viewpoint as well, and if that doesn't filter back through the players to the developers, how do you ever expect some company to develop a game we'd actually like to play?

Enjoy the power stone and map leveling grind for a 3rd time! And your wipe gives PC over a week head start on the servers for what reason? "Permanent"... Just imagine that statement being true. The game never changing enough to need another wipe... GL

For what it's worth I dont' think it sucks that it's happening at all. Everyone knew or should have known that at very barest minimum there would be at least one more wipe, at game launch. People were demoralized and paralyzed into inaction when they didn't know for sure whether a wipe was coming sooner rather than later, and unfortunately your rants did contribute to that uncertainty imo. But don't sweat it too hard because now we know, and it isn't just so someone else gets a clean slate, it's because important new changes are being made. Anyone who is sour grapes about the wipe in that context isn't being very reasonable imo. I would have been pissed if they wiped just to placate xbox players, but all this stuff is getting added? Bring it on, that's what improving your game is all about. I'm very relieved to hear these kinds of changes are happening sooner rather than later, so to me this is all good news.

@Sulfurblade @boomervoncannon I gotta day that I like both of your arguments and I like how you show more professionalism in your debates between one another. I have grown to respect you both. The one thing in common is that you disagree agree with me a lot lol. That isn’t a poke just a fact. i have both disagreed and agreed with both of you at times. Kind of reminds me of when I am talking politics with people. Usually both the left and the right disagree with me but I love the debate. Mind you I am not saying either one of you would represent any political side. This was just a scenario. i have had some fun on these forums. No this isn’t a good bye letter lol. But if I had to pick two out of everyone I would say you two are the ones that I liked to argue/debate with the most. Mostly because of your own personal ethics but also the way you handle yourselves. No doubt I have gotten enough of a rise out of both of you to where you act abnormally but I do have a tendency to bring that out in people. either way, kudos to both of you. I look forward to hearing more banter.

You know what would be cool to make ship building a little less painful? Once a ship has been made you can "save" the design so that you can just load the materials + pieces into the shipyard and it pop out.

Now is time for research. I know how exp and discovery points work, but now is there any specific areas that have a lot of discovery points or is it as simple as going to every island? not worried about getting the exp yet. Just going to have fun exploring and getting all of the discovery points before I even bother building or worrying about end game. I will never hit a level cap. i would also like some info on the simplest form of foods to have on board so I don’t have to worry about the vitamin mechanic. I am already planning on putting every level I get into fortitude to start out with. I am planning on spending my first week not having fun but grinding discovery points so I just need info for food, vitamins, locations and general info. i would also like to know if the ship of choice should be the sloop or the brig for what I am doing. I am looking for nothing but speed. No defenses and no weight needed. Only the fastest and most efficient ship with common sails(not bothering with quality yet). sure if I see an alpha along the way I’ll kill it but other than building a quick 2x2 every once in awhile and gathering essential resources I will pretty much be a fast moving nomad. how important will it be to have climbing picks for discovery points and will that he the norm as to finding discovery points? there is probably going to be two of us and I will go into survivalism so I can get medicine and lowered vitamin deficiency(because I hate that mechanic) and he will he going into captaineering because I don’t want to have to worry that much about ship decay. Eventually I will go into beast mastery but not too worried about that for right now. so yeah. If there is some advanced information you can give that would be appreciated. Edit: expecting good advice from @boomervoncannon and @Sulfurblade

OK, so I have talked with many players, and those who don't want to play, speak about two things keeping them from coming back. #1. 9 hour raid windows, EVERY FREAKIN DAY. That's more than a work shift, where they have to be on, every single day, to protect their work. #2. Imbalance in Company sizes, and some groups still acting as Megas, with their alliances. I know that isn't as much an issue right now, but there is likely to still be imbalances. And WOULD be a problem if many people came back to play. If they don't come back, then what's the point? So if you are a small company, you are just meat to the slaughter, if a large group come after you. What would fix this? Well, I have been playing some Conan. While I like the idea of Atlas more, Conan had some things I really liked. One that would work really well for Atlas, and would likely become the most popular game mode, is PvE-C. The C stands Conflict. Like PvE, the structures can't be damaged. However, just like PvP, you and your tames CAN be killed...during the conflict time. Much like Atlas, there is a window where conflict is allowed, but this game mode only allows it for things other than structures. I think that is what many people wanted. They want to fight with their ships. They don't want to fight against people, over their bases. That (current PvP rules) requires you to be on every night, during the raid times. PvE-C, you would not need to be on every night. Another thing they do, which is also cool, is the Purge. This would give you a reason to still throw up some defenses for your base.

How are you guys going to give PC players a 10 day start? A LOT of these players will be veterans and will wipe EVERY new player as soon as they enter PVP.. This needs to be changed! The servers should be taken down UNTIL the release date on the 8th. I get that PC players already paid for the game, but it makes ZERO sense to do this. I am an Xbox player, and I have not even played this game yet, I have no idea what to do. Sure, I played ARK but this is not ARK. "Following the wipe, we will be permanently relaunching the NA PvP Network"

As someone who has been here since day one, I have to say that while I give less than a wet noodle about Xbox players having this mythical level playing field they think they are entitled to, if they are going to do a wipe at all, they might as well have given you that. Wiping and giving PC players a head start seems like someone sat down in a conference room and said "Okay, we have two options here, either one will piss off some group. But let's not limit ourselves people. Come on, think outside the box! There's gotta be a way we can piss BOTH groups off at the same time." Welcome to the club, here's your gripe with GrapeCard™ scorecard. Please note the numbers go pretty high. Actually, give me that one back, mine is full and scribbled in the margins. We'll get you new ones Soon™ Have a hat while you wait.

You're making too much of it. It was a throwaway verb. I'm saying it dismissively because, aside from you, I don't think anyone cares about it. I can't imagine anyone ever saying , "Oh, I heard there was a new island in J4. I'm going to sail over and have a look at it."
  21. 1 point
Depending on how they did the re work on the islands Salt is something most players need (until they can use make ice) So, if you are planning on clearing the grids like you say, you might want a supply of salt handy on your ship incase, you bump into a group of players who are active in making gold but, have no salt in the area.. for a trade

Oh you know I look at the steam charts everyday. But yeah, both you and Thorne are right. They definitely should have brought in more changes. At least a ship since it has been awhile they have given you guys anything. that is definitely their bad on that. To be honest what they needed to do was put phase 2 as phase 1 and then phase one as phase 2. 3 and 4 are fine really but they really need to switch those two around. Fingers crossed though. As I said before, after that interview and seeing the lack of effort they put into it it rubbed me the wrong way. I’ll stay hopeful for the new guy, but not pleased with the others Oh yeah. A lot of people are complaining about that on all forms of social media. That part did boggle my mind though. Its like what? You devs realize that Na PVP is going to be dead and EU PVP is going to be full right? the reason I say full is because now instead of the Xbox players sitting off into their own regions now they are all going to go to EU. Smh
  23. 1 point
Go back and look at the steam charts. Atlas lost 75% of it's players within 90 days. As much as I personally am excited about new islands, that and cats isn't gonna move the needle for Xbox players experience from 3 months to 10. It *might* move it enough for them to put in meaningful changes that could make the overall experience better, like adding to and or revamping skills, making changes that improve sailing and making the game more ship pvp centered, anything that might work, but Thorne is not fundamentally wrong when she points out that the core experience hasn't been changed, and I think the case is more than proved that the core experience won't keep enough people playing long term. You are coming to the right conclusion though, the devs have a very limited window in which to make real changes that matter. Everyone coming from Xbox isn't gonna be Whitehawk, and knowing that, all we can do is hope that the xbox launch buys enough time for the new guy to effect meaningful change. I'm just saying I'm pretty confident that window is single digits in months, not double, and it may well be low single digits.

In all seriousness, this had one of the worst steam launches the internet has ever seen for a AAA video game. I see no advertisements at all on my Xbox, and there is no way to pre-download the game when it is released on the 8th. Are you guys going to fail the community again with a rocky launch? Here is my reddit post, your welcome.

Ok. Some areas have more discoveries, deserts were a favourite due to them having ruins near the beach. Golden age ruins can also be good. Going for the easy disco pts is the best option, sometimes don't bother with climbing picks or even running up to the top of mountains. Spyglass will show you disco pts, so you can just sail around, spyglass will show disco pt, get the island disco pt, then spyglass again to see if there is any easy disco pts. If you want to explore and get all the discovery pts, in a way that doesn't bother about building/hoarding mats or reaching end game, it is as simple as go to every island. There was a person on reddit who was doing simply that, just sailing around getting the disco pts on a sloop or schooner. Brigs are sadly useless for speed and transporting stuff, tbh. Climbing picks are very useful. Getting the disco pts first is a good idea, as you will then avoid wasting possible xp gained when you work out what you're doing. However, while you're getting disco pts, I will be grinding and will have more stuff than you always Cow and chicken on the ship is the *best* for rp'ing/pve'ing at the start, cows give milk for blue vitamin, chickens give yellow, craploads of berries (some colour), and some cooked meat (the other colour) Fortitude is good stat to start out with, and is what I lvl up myself. Unfortunately, due to the way the hunger and vitamin system work together currently, sometimes you want less fortitude. I think 10 or 15 fort is fine at the start. Going for medicine (and building and farming) is a good plan, if someone else can go captaineering and ship building. I think at the start, everyone needs to aim for beast mastery tier 2.

You sound like someone who should wait until the game is actually launched....in other words, after development is over. They are still developing features, tweaking, and optimizing...wipes will happen. If you don't like that....wait for launch.

id say console players will outnumber pc players in the begining, if the price is close to what it is on steam, i would definetily give it a try.

Updated Steam to PTR; I was able to Find NPC Pirate Encampments and ship, on Grid N6 Single Player. Ran into a Pirate Brig, was a fun battle, doesn't just blow UP like a SOD ship, it has to slowly or quickly sink and it will fight till it goes down. *One thing I noticed is you cannot see any sailors on it, and No Idea if you can board it or claim it, once it sinks it leaves a wreck floating on service, I can only assume you can dive down to loot it or loot something? Any Plans on having NPC Pirates on the ship so you can board it and fight them? Will we ever be able to claim the ship? Found island with 4 pirate bases, but there was only the 1 ship around, not sure if there should have been 1 ship per base? Attacking a pirate base: Its fun, pirates come in different armor amounts, seems smart enough to pull out a pistol to shoot you, the Canons are a bit too accurate, I was on my ship shooting at them and they literally HIT ME every time, Dead on - on the steering wheel. (Maybe instead of just shooting player on ship they could try to sink the ship? **NOTE** Pirates on cannons, puckle, ballista etc, are invulnerable, you cannot snipe them, you have to walk up to them, or try to punch them to get them to come off turret and fight you. I think for NPC Pirates, it would be good if that could be adjusted... We should be able to Snipe them off the canons or guns. Another Sugg **Can we make it so the NPC's inside the buildings can come out and fight? Or just leave the doors unlocked so we can go in and fight them, having to blow up the doors or walls just to kill last pirate hiding in the base seems excessive.** Lastly a Question: I could not find NPC pirates on Blackwood, are they on one of the islands? Or only Ocean Map?

If it does fail, you can blame pc players? Haha. Pc game gets developed, pc game halts development to get copied across to xbox, game still doesn't "succeed" and you want to play the blame game?
  34. 1 point
Undoubtedly the best source for perspective, been on the forums since launch, hated the game apparently, but then when the game started to fail, he went around saying crossplay is not only a good idea but will save the game, that PC players should get wiped so that they suffer (just a little bit) and now he's saying that he's not even playing on the servers getting wiped, or on servers that have been confirmed to have crossplay. In this thread, now says crossplay is a bad idea. Best go to source for perspective, many people go to learn from him. I can't wait to for him to let us all know why crossplay is a bad idea, now that he has let us know that it is a bad idea. Huh? If atlas doesn't fail, you're able to blame pc players?

Srsly? New islands are not thrilling. Cats are not thrilling. New game mechanics are thrilling - skill trees with specialization, new levels of player organization , ie. towns and cities, new modes of tension and conflict for both pvp and pve, new ships, better use of crew... Maybe. Maybe not. First, they've indicated that they expect to do more things like that without wiping in the future. Second, you can wipe a landscape without wiping player data, and that includes possessions, as we've already seen them do in Ark, and as you can move a player, including possessions, in single player. But mostly, even if it is technically required to make these changes, these are changes that don't fundamentally add anything at all to the player experience. These are best worked in when they can be combined with something for players to look forward to. It's like wiping the servers to make the oceans a little bit more blue. Nobody gives a rat's about it. If I had any doubts that this was not well thought out, the rolling start puts them to rest. You have Xbox players complaining that it's unfair not to wipe, especially on pvp, so they'll choose a pvp server to start up first, a week before xbox launch, and all the pc players get a head start on it. Every decision degrades the level of confidence that smart decisions are being made and everything will come out right in the end.

The most glaring imbalance I'm aware of is the imbalance between offense and defense, where the former far outshines the latter in pvp. Speaking as a pver, my understanding is that it has not. If you are referring to some other form of imbalance you'll have to be more specific, but either way it's good to hear from you. Hope you've been well.

I can't speak for anyone else but I'm fine with this wipe. There are clearly multiple technical reasons it's more than necessary. 70 new island templates, polish to existing islands and a new biome type. These are all extremely valid reasons to wipe in an Early Access game and just as I've said I'm not interested in listening to xbox players whine about needing a wipe because they think they deserve it, I'm now uninterested in existing players whining about losing their stuff. It's EA, this is part of the deal. They're not wiping us just to give xbox players what they want, they are making major changes and improvements to the game world. Be thrilled about the new stuff and look at it as a chance to start fresh. Also if you got heavy into breeding or building in an EA game that had already wiped once and are now sour grapes over losing all your time invested, well, I don't really know what to tell you. I think everyone should be excited about this and move forward together. Remember at the end of the day it's only a game.

There's not much here I really disagree with. I think you're just more finely parsing what I said in broader brush strokes. The games I was thinking of you pretty much covered. I never played Ultima but my gaming partner did and was a big fan back in the day. I disagree that Eve didn't do a good job of creating a viable world for both precisely for the reasons you described. The only thing I'll nitpick is I never said treated equally because all I meant was shoved into the same game and forced to coexist despite different playstyles and goals. I think Eve managed this and according to what you're saying Ultima did so even better. I've also had enough experience with serious pvpers to agree with what you're saying in differentiating true pvp with pk. I don't find pk's trying to kill pvers out looking for resources to make that adventure more exciting and rewarding, so I do disagree about that. If I went out to the grocery store, and some guy showed up there with an assault rifle and started shooting the place up, yes that would be more exciting, but not in a way I had any interest in being part of. More rewarding, definately not unless in the abstract "holy shit now I really appreciate being alive because that maniac might have killed me if I hadn't thrown a gallon of milk at his face and run like hell." sort of feeling. In the times in the past when I've had to deal with that in games, it was more like "oh great, this emotionally stunted dingleberry just flushed the 2 hours I spent down the drain when he very skillfully and bravely ganked me while I was gathering. I get to pay the price and listen to his inane shit talk in chat because his parents didn't love him enough. Lucky me." But that's nitpicking mostly. See, I didn't grow up a gamer. I grew up playing basketball. Lots and lots of basketball. When you were discovering the joys of Ultima, I was perfecting my 3 point shot (okay perfecting is too strong of word, let's go with making respectable.) To me, competitive pvp in video games just doesn't really do much for me, because when I compete I like it to be in a real world face to face, mano e mano type scenario. Likewise I find all forms of shit talking online to be laughably absurd. When you've left pickup games because the court cleared when an argument over a foul ended with one party going to his car and getting a gun, guys waving their epeen around just doesn't tend to impress. Not that I can't admire skill, and I've seen some pretty skilled pvpers, it just doesn't do anything to get my competitive juices flowing. What I like in MMORPG's is exploration of a vast gameworld, crafting (as long as it's not brain dead oversimplified like so many games. I stll mourn The Repopulation because I would have made robots til the cows came home http://aena.at/craftmap/item1752.html. Btw when you click on that link, go to gold link circuit board and click on it to see all the sub crafts involved, then click on oh say circuit board within that to see all the subcrafts needed for it, THEN click on gold electrode within that to see all the subcrafts needed for IT. Then click on flux within it to see all the subcrafts needed for it. Now THAT was a crafting system I could have sunk my teeth into.), and a decent economy that I can tinker around in and find arbitrages etc. Anyway, you have put forward some thought provoking comments. Thanks for the perspective.

I've never been against wiping if the developers determine it's necessary for any development related reasons. What I was and still am against is wiping for the sole reason of making it "fair" for new players, or because they think they deserve it. It takes only the simplest of logical examples to illustrate why this line of thinking does not hold up. Do the people who join the game at any point down the road after it has been wiped for the initial wave of xbox players not deserve the same level playing field? If so, then you must wipe every x period of time to make it "fair". That is obviously an absurd approach to any game where there is long term investment of time and energy. In just the same way that life is not fair, a game should not cater to such a perceived need just because some group agitates for it. Every player who joins Atlas or any other MMO for that matter at a point after an initial launch has to cope with the "unfairness" of others having a head start. I myself have done it many times on many games. It is the nature of the beast, and frankly part of the challenge. MMORPG's have successfully divided servers when game population size made that prudent, or to better serve real world geography. I absolutely disagree that pvp and pve should not be seperated. They are two fundamentally seperate game modes with players seeking fundamentally different experiences, and what has happened every single time any game I've played has tried to shoehorn them in together because of some hairbrained developer notion otherwise is that the pve experience has suffered horribly for good reason than to provide amusement for pvpers who would rather grief players than actually engage in competition. It is a foolish invitation to asshattery, and the only exception I've ever seen to this is Eve, which found a way to blend the two reasonably successfully. When Grapeshot demonstrates the same level of professional competence and mastery that CCP has over more than a decade, fine, we can have that talk. Until then, I'm firmly against it. I agree that it is precisely this sort of toxic behavior that limits games which allow this sort of nonsense into a backwater niche within the MMO genre. that's completely understandable, and as you've already made clear in the past, your decision is as much about playing with your friends as anything else, so a change in their preferences based on the information in hand could obviously result in a change of where you play.

My comments had nothing to do with whether official or unofficial is the better place to play. I have tried both and prefer official because to me personally the size of the game world is an important draw, and unofficials are much much smaller. However, that is very much about personal preferences. The point of my post is that Realist as much or more than anyone here has been the driving force behind campaigning for official server wipe as "necessary" for a "level playing field" for Xbox players when they enter. For him to have invested that amount of time and energy into something that would result in other players losing their far greater amount of time and energy invested to suit his personal whims, only to make a decision at the last minute which renders the need he campaigned so hard for at others expense irrelevant, well.... that's why I was giving him a hard time about it, if only in jest. Based on what Realist has said he likes to do in the past, I think he could enjoy the game in either place. Keep in mind, he won't be the only one joining, and his play preferences and what he finds enjoyable could be quite different from what you enjoy, or what I enjoy. I still think that unofficial servers for a traditional MMORPG that was trying to promote the things Atlas claimed to be aiming for at launch is a head scratchingly bad idea, and that's coming from someone who ran his own multi server cluster for over a year on Ark, so I'm certainly not anti unofficial. However, as I have watched Atlas's development this year, I am letting go of the notion that unofficials make no sense for this game, because it is never going to be the things they said they were setting out for in the beginning, and I think if Atlas ultimately survives and finds any long term success, it will have to be by finding a genre defying space in the gaming world that does not fit previously held definitions. So I'm not standing on an unmoving inflexible hill of "unofficials bad, officials good." I'm just saying for what I would want from the game, having tried both, I think officials are more likely to get there, but as always ymmv.

I haven't seen the need to wipe PVE. However, playing on the PTR, I feel a wipe will be happening. Because, our home island is in I5, and now I5 is a freeport. I'm used to alot of wipes playing Conan EA so, I'm used to starting over and over and it doesn't really bother me. What does concern me is the loss of players in the server because not everyone thinks like myself.

What a bunch of bull... The guy doing the interview is obviously scripted to ask the specific questions the person that is being interviewed is prepared to answer!!! No useful information was shared here the only thing I see is the whole we need to make sailing a better experience "Company Line" And this guys initial thoughts on how to do it are so far off base its obvious why they can't make this a decent game! Make ships EASIER to aquire??? As if its not already stupid easy to build a ship??? More Events on the Sea's??? Because the SOTD and the Storms are NOT REASONS people have quit playing this game?!? They are not in touch with reality....
