Ok, since launch I have defended, helped, cajoled etc, tried to be a decent member of what can be an extremely challenging and toxic community. Today, I logged in, after 48 hours away, I logged off in my house which I have done many times before. Nothing, all my stuff gone, dozens of hours of work, rebuilding, thousands in resources, all gone. Time to uninstall, I'd wish the devs the best but honestly, I have had a skinful. The broken claim system will be the death of this game, that and the absolute lack of feedback from our so called 'community managers'. I predict 6 months if the game carries on at the current rate, then they'll be amalgamating servers. I wish i could get the lost time back.

Why not have insta travel or just one button to push that puts a message on your screen "you won, game over" I understand where you are coming from but I am sure there are plenty of people who like it as it is and wouldn't appreciate the sudden appearance of an invasion fleet on their doorstep without any warning or enabling mega companies to roll over half the server in a morning. The consequences of your desire have far reaching implications. The level of delayed gratification and emphasis on team play, social interaction was one of the things that made atlas stand out and harkened back to the days when games were hard and goal achievement was meaningful. This is slowly being eroded, the game is step by step being watered down, personally I see this as a disappointing direction for the game to take and will ultimately, for me at least shorten the games lifespan.

To Grapeshot. Your community has created servers which actually mix PVP servers and PVE servers on 1 map. PVE usually existing around equatorial and tropical zones, while desert, temperate and tundra are PVP. This allows all players of all play styles to play together with very little issue. Each zone server is set up independently, incorporating PVE or PVP settings, and I think they have a superior idea. It opens more of the map to claimable space as well, removing any need for lawless zones, which take up a ridiculous amount of official servers. Having the PVE zone around the middle zones allows easy movement to PVP areas where certain resources are needed, without having to extend themselves too far into hostile territory, plus not many PVP players are just kos, so the danger risk of quick resource trips is actually pretty low. It also gives PVP players the ability to help subsidize the PVE economy, by bringing in those less common resources to PVE players, without the ability to attack. There's also the potential for hiring ships and captains for escort protection to power stone and Fountain of Youth locations. Whole new dynamics and ways to play, all while extinguishing the lawless zones made unnecessary by neutral, everyone can build, claims. I understand these would constitute big changes, requiring some map changing as well as reassigning each server to PVP or PVE settings, but overall I think it would be a good move in the long run. 4 Public Official servers, all open to everyone, as well as each new server cluster you add to the list as the game's player base continues to grow.

im kinda burned out on ark and using a bear to harvest and carry things just makes this feel too much like ark. can we get maybe some wheelbarrows or hand held carts? maybe get our crew members to help harvest things?

yes, you have to install a mod and change your launcher. Because the devs for some reason can´t be bothered to get the fonts ingame like any other game.

So far we've been wiped like 9 times now by massive companies and their allies. This game needs sorting so smaller companies can actually enjoy the game and not just keep farming and losing it over night. It just doesn't seem fair for companies that 250+ just to roll in with their allies and wipe an entire grid in hours. killing off some of the fan base because of this.

Hey Pathfinders, We've released a special client-side update on a beta steam branch which will enable some recent client-side optimisations we've been testing internally. The gains are GPU related, so those who are pushing the game to the maximum settings (4k res etc) and with less powerful graphics cards should see the most improvements. We'd like to release this to the public but some more hands-on feedback and notice about stability would be good. If you guys experience any crashes with this client, please feel free to share the error messages in here, alongside any relevant information. When an error message pops up, after closing it/accepting the message, it will automatically paste to your clipboard, so you can head to https://pastebin.com/ and share the error in there. To access the branch, please restart your steam applications (log off of Steam and log back on), right-click ATLAS in your game library, head to properties, select the 'BETAS' tab, and in the dropdown menu, opt into the performancetest branch. It'll download a patch and your client will be v16.34. You will still be able to play on the latest Official and Unofficial servers using this beta client. Thanks guys!

This is happening to one of the grid on my server. Seems like a very rare chance for a grid to catch this fatal error. Can provide the crash stack, save file and server logs if needed. After nearly 200 hours in the game, Atlas is starting to disappoint me as a "pirate game". The meta shifted completely to taming creatures, instead of building and commandeering ships and cannons. Basically, it is far easier to tame a lion (or other Tier-3) and a bear, outfit the bear with cart&cannon and raid bases with this method. Another problem I see is that the PvP is not very skill orientated. The focus is primarily on numbers: who has the most attackers/defenders with decent gear and tames, or in the case of overwhelming numbers vs smaller amounts you could attack naked and win. Skill definitely takes a backseat to sheer numbers of players and tames. Cheats are rampant, but that is to be expected from EA, they get fixed fairly rapidly. In my feelings, the animal tames should get a VERY minor role and impact, ships should be more powerful, important and viable and PvP should become more skill-based, than equipment & numbers. Animals should not be important, this is not ARK. In the survival genre, I primarily played other games than ARK. In my opinion, that game is skill based with quick actions, reflexes and reactions (aka Skills) sufficient for a truly skilled player, to have a fighting chance and even be able to win against 3 to 5 players with less skill (not talking total noob, just less skill). This is where Atlas should go, Skilled and experienced players should have the edge on less skilled players, even if they are grouped. I can see that well-organized groups have a fighting chance against larger, less organized and experienced players, there is, as far as I have seen so far on both official as well as non-officials, no way for solo players to overcome small groups (3-4 players) even if skilled, while there is a slight chance for smaller, organized teams (10-20 players) to overcome larger teams, it should also become more balanced in the 1 vs 3 / 2 vs 6 and 3 vs 9 scales - SKILL should rule, not the number of players or tames. Examples - A group of 3, can knock out a single player that is scouting or farming, throw the bola, put the handcuffs and drag you into jail for the remainder of the week/month/year, efficiently eliminating the player from that server, as the character can be stuck in jail forever. Even if that single player is way more skilled or experienced, the knockout game mechanics give them little or no chance facing three players, not to mention any tamed animals. - another issue, jail time. While interesting in itself, it should really be a limited (maybe 4 hours, 6 ... 8 hours?) timeout rather than a potential 'life' sentence, allowing a larger group to hold players prisoner for as long as they like. Theoretically, a sufficiently organized group could jail a player as long as there is no wipe of the server, that is simply unacceptable. In short, my feelings are: - Improve PvP, allowing the skill to reign over numbers - Reduce the impact of tames, they should have minor supporting roles, able to help a little in gathering, building but not be totally full out war machines (else the game is just ARK without actual Dinosaurs, well actually i already seen Dinosaurs.....). - Maybe make dragging cannons behinds animals very slow. Swimming with a cannon on a cart should not be possible - Jail time should have a limit in maximum time, a reasonable limit. Hours, not days or weeks, or months or years... - Increase the impact boats have, they should be the single most important thing to have, build and maintain. Wee supposed to be pirates, after all, not beastmasters. Ever heard of Pirates sailing with dinosaurs, bears, lions, Elephants and such? as long as tames stay as important as they are, its basically a reskin of ARK survival with inferior boats.. Who feels the same? what should be improved?

If you get stuck on one just keep punching until you have 5 hp left, then throw all your stuff in water, die and respawn, you'll be able to get your gear back. ^^

I would like to suggest that the craftable bucket be allowed to be added to the inventory and access the wall/mount hook so that you could gather rain water in the bucket for fresh water to drink. This would be great for the smallest ships, you would mount the wall mount holder on the mast and insert a bucket and wait for rain to collect a small amount of some fresh drinkable rain water. Also once filled with water the bucket can't affect the weight of the ship so much like the barrel does once its full.

So there's just 2 companies on your island? Shame about all the other players who never get a foothold then, eh. And before you say people can rent - people don't like paying other players in game in PVE, especially when the owner can take the land back at any moment. I'm all for cleaning up abandoned structures but did you have to claim it all for yourself? And tbh I simply don't believe people were happy to come to your island to farm at 30% in a clean island, they would go to Lawless or freeports with no tax, everything is available there. Freeports are clean land, we don't need players excluding others from playing the game by designating their area another clean area. You are simply trying to put a positive spin on what you know is a far worse system than Ark for the majority of players.
  18. 2 points
They are making structural changes to incentivize landowners to rent land to tenanabts instead of just wiping everyone but fir this to work two things are required: 1. Megas must understand the change and how changing their behavior will be advantageous to them. 2. Small companies like yours must git Gud at diplomacy to negotiate yourself an amenable arrangement. Everyone likes to talk about Eve in comparison to Atlas. In Eve, blowing people out of the sky isn’t the only thing that matters. Diplomacy matters too.p

That does not surprise me at all to be honest. I've lost about 5 ships and just about everything else you can imagine. I've threw in the towel many times only to come back for more punishment haha. I can understand why many are leaving though, the devs do not listen, they want to do it how they want to play not how the community does. You get this sense by watching the stream they did on Twitch, it's THEIRS not OUR game, it should be tailored towards us not themselves. When you watch the stream on Twitch there is no planning in it, just switch on camera and talk about random stuff, I think this gives the impression of being incompetent I wish this game was with top game developers because it could be 1 of the best games of all time if it was unfortunately it isn't.

I've spent many hours in EVE and you are correct EVE has a proper risk and reward system. Noobs can stay in the Hi Sec safe areas but even there they aren't completely safe and those zones are no where near as lucrative as Low Sec or Null Sec. So you are basically suggesting some kind of fake, false PVP where basically both sides agree to fight for the sake of fighting, rather then for a greater strategic goal. You are basically wanting the game to become like some generic multiplayer RPG game where you spend 99% of your time smashing AI mobs and you only fight other players in special dedicated arenas where there are no consequences to losing save for pride.

It is not the north and south pole, notice the regions are named east and west but not named north and south? This is because you are not on a sphere you are playing on an unrolled torus. The first and last row of the map are the same pole at the top of the torus, the middle row is at the bottom of the torus. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torus

Boomer V only ever talks about himself in the third person, because that is what really cool people like Boomer V do. You said this thread isn’t about you and that’s right. It’s about Boomer V because all threads are about Boomer V from Boomer V’s perspective, which is, frankly, the only perspective that matters. Boomer V thinks that generally speaking, he got his, but if the little people want to, it’s cool with Boomer V if they swim around in the water near his claims and get eaten by sharks, just as long as they don’t make too much noise doing it. Boomer V likes his peace and quiet.
  28. 2 points
The claim patch was a good idea, but I don't think it's going to make much difference in the number of people who are having a hard time finding land to claim. I really think there ought to be a restriction on the # of claims. Here's why I think there has to be a flag limit - I spent the entire day today traveling around NA pve in the temperate zone searching - from 6AM EST until @3 PM. Checked every inch of coastline and didn't find one claimable spot. Well, I found one tiny one, but it was overlapped. Now sure, that's just one day searching and just a few zones, but it was every coast, every island in all those zones, and more importantly, it was right after a surprise patch in the middle of the night on a weeknight which booted a bunch of absent claimers. You'd expect to see something, and if you don't see anything in 3 zones, you can figure the number isn't going to be great across the board. Mostly I saw companies with HUGE amounts of land. It looked like @ 3 or 4 companies owned every zone, for the most part. Maybe they're big companies and need that much land..who knows? Maybe it's only 10 people. This isn't a surprise. If you look at all the threads complaining about claims, a good number of the complaints are from people who already HAVE claims saying their neighbor has been gone, they can't claim his land, and wanting fixes for problems preventing them from expanding their claims. People today are reporting that the big companies went through early this morning grabbing up whatever was available. If a land claim is ticking down, you know the neighbors know about that and will be there when it expires. There's not much chance for someone checking islands hit and miss as they go by. And why shouldn't people expand their claims? Everybody wants to keep bad neighbors away. Completely understandable. Maybe the neighbor has blocked a resource they want. The game design encourages it..want to make money? Tax everything, then rent space and tax that too. There's even a leaderboard applauding the ones who claim the most land, and they get to name the islands after themselves. (I can't wait to see the island called "Peenie Pirates, because you know it'll happen.) The devs have started to roll that back with a new timer that counts down quicker the more claims you own. That's a good thing, but I'm not sure it'll help, and it's confusing going against all the other goals. (Is there even a way to un-claim yet for those who decide they want the slower timer?) The bottom line is, unless the number of claims is restricted somehow, the existing claims are going to grab up whatever becomes free around them. They'd be crazy not to. It won't make it any easier for new players to find a claim. (All you who want to jump in right now yelling about how there IS land, because you saw it, and you have a claim and everyone else is lazy, and you can't say there's no land unless you check every flag on every island in every zone (and yes, someone really said that)....don't bother. We see this on every issue..those who had no connection problems at the start claim they don't exist, those who didn't get griefed don't think it's a problem, etc. This thread is not for YOU. It's for everyone who has had a completely different experience than YOU. If you really want to participate in it, pretend you're designing a brand new game from scratch and make reasonable suggestions.)

I plan to migrate my server 2x2 server away from nitrado to an own server and would like to migrate the ships, structures and the playerstats. Problem seems that copying the mapfiles (*.atlas) are not enough, I do also need to migrate the redis database and I'm not sure if a) I will get the redis dump from nitrado and b) if its compatible with the new server. Does anybody has done this successfully or should I just stop wasting my time, because its not possible? Update, Nitrado said: Unfortunately, this possibility does not yet exist. I apologise for the inconvenience. so, I was trying to just copy the atlas files, but got some problem with the new map then. I got disconnected after transfering to an other map, etcetera. maybe need more testing. but does anybody got migrate a server just with the map files 100% running?

I am sorry you feel that way. If you want to go to either place that is fine. Shame on me for playing the game the way it was designed? Sorry not sorry. We are non toxic, friendly welcoming people. you are more than welcome to identify any islands that offer beach front at no cost (aside from taxes), with no worry or risk of loosing it. You are more than welcome to play ARK if in your opinion its worse. Freeport resources are not of much use outside repairs and building parts (walls, floors, etc) we offer usable resources that are not spawn blocked, land that will not be taken away, access to the entire island, friendly players, and a wonderful ally offering. Everyone will have to go to lawless as well to get other resources, you are more than welcome to find somewhere inland on any of those places as most beaches are crowded. I am not saying you have to do any of this, i am more saying the server grid we live in has become much more productive and welcoming than it has been in the last 3 weeks. as a side note, i started in lawless, i was a solo that would just live and be happy where i was at, i have made friends and trade connections, i have sailed to over 100 islands (not a lot by any means) and have seen maybe 1 or two islands that were welcoming and clean. it takes a lot of time and efforts to keep things locked in (land claims, up keep of crew, expansion of ports) so a 30% tax until projects are completed is not out of the questions. If you choose to go to freeports or lawless that is fine. Chinese company's come through all the time and farm, so im not hurt by you or your friends not coming. But for a lot of other people that don't share your same views, it is a blessing to see positive progress. Don't be so greedy when it comes to I HAVE TO HAVE MY OWN PLOT, just rent, be friendly, and don't rent from toxic people.

In the reference to EVE, I wore an asshat for a while. Stealth bomber living in a wormhole. Blew up this hauler one day doing his PI. He said, "Do you realize, that if it weren't for people like me, you wouldn't have ships." And I replied, "Do you realize that if it weren't for people like me, you'd have nobody to build ships for." The beauty of Eve was, you could just chill and go mining in high sec if you liked. You could run PVE missions. You could be that asshat blowing up people in wormholes. You could be a real pirate, holding people for ransom in low sec. Or, you could be a warrior with a cause to fight for in 0.0 doing fleet battles. I'd love to see Atlas like that, choosing whether to wear your helmet, your fedora or your hard-hat today.

@Jatheish : Here you are, the crashstack on pastebin.com: https://pastebin.com/0mbJ6J1d. I haven't tried yet on the official, as I was too quick to begin reverting back to the normal client, however I stopped it, when it was at 20%. So when it was done applying the performance beta, I couldn't actually launch it, because it kept and is still causing issues. I now keep getting the error, that there aren't sufficient resources. So I'm now working on getting the client working again, when I do I will update you with regards to the trying on the official network. [EDIT] Apparently, 89 files failed to validate, ~78MBs of data was re-downloaded. Will test on official servers, once they're up, because it seems none are currently up.

The concept of Fountain of Youth I can dig. Your character gets old, and you want to be young again. Especially since you get a debuff if you don't and a stat increase if you do. Motivation. You have to go find it - cool. This game has a big sailing/exploring component, that fits the bill for pretty much all players. But then you have to go to an island in a fairly narrow time window (given the distance it takes to sail places), that's filled to the brim with creatures that will kill you in one hit? Surrounded by abandoned sloops and rafts because I guess your character has learned in all their years that you have to do countless suicide runs to become young again? Yuck. I'm posting this because a couple of us in our company of 5 set out to find the FoY in our sloop. It took nearly 4 hours to get there (due to a location moving away unexpectedly), only to end with us unable to even reach the fountain due to countless Fire Elementals, Gorgons, Lions, Scorpions, etc filling the land, swimming out to sea to get us, and even crossing over multiple abandoned sloops to attack our ship and destroy 3 out of our 4 beds. Half the time we couldn't spawn from dying because a creature was on our ship attacking our loading in bodies. Not fun at all, and a disheartening way to log off from an evening of sailing. Is the idea that you should be able to take on this endless spawn island? Is the idea you're supposed to attempt to sneak past them? As far as I can tell, neither of those really work, as most strategies I've seen or heard about just involve zerging the island with another people that the monsters are too distracted to get you, which doesn't work if you're aging off cycle from a main group of people. What I think currently works: The concept of needing to find a fountain of youth to get young again (due to stat incentives) Traveling to find a fountain of youth Having some sort of 'test' or 'challenge' in order to obtain the fountain of youth What I think currently does not work: An island entirely full of monsters who can one-hit you (probably even if you have gear) The current timing of island movement (seems a little too short still) This implies that I would like the current test or challenge at the end (i.e. a ton of monsters) to change, or to be decoupled from the power stone thing (that's what is also on that island, right? I'm just interested in the FoY tbh haha). Here are some suggestions on different challenges that would happen on 'normal' non-monster filled islands: Have the FoY challenge be more like a treasure map. Go to a location on that island (or on a different island) to face a select group of creatures that appear when you show up. Then claim their treasure (has a mcguffin) to turn into the FoY. Could scale the difficulty depending on how many times you've youth'd, up to a higher limit. Instead of fighting monsters, you just have to find keys on the same island or different islands. Number of keys could increase depending on how many times you've youth'd, again. Have one big monster guarding the FoY. You can try to sneak past (there's a lit route, or something), kill it to get treasure, or YOLO your way to try and get to the fountain. Seems more reasonable than 'island full' of monsters. So those are my thoughts, but what do you all think would make this mechanic more fun?

There seems to be an database problem or something just for my character. It takes me 30 minutes and about 50 tries to join EU Pvp F3 region. And thats with a lot of host problems/kicks/disconnects. Fix this or you will loose tons of players.

We're currently evaluating our claim system and seeing what changes we can make to improve it across the board, as it definitely needs work. It's arguable that the 3 day timer may need to be increased now that we no longer allow sleeping bodies to contest claims, but due to the limited amount of land available and how PvE servers work we have to put measures in place to make sure that land cannot be sat on indefinitely. Players can still use Crew (which are to be fed and paid) to contest claims. The sleeping measure we put in place was more so to tackle users who hadn't logged on in days and hadn't planned to but were still contesting their inactive claims because their bodies had not died.

This is why I believe not all griefing, but incidents like this, where someone has obviously willfully invested a large amount of time for no reason other than to destroy someone else's fun, should be seriously considered for immediate permanent game ban. What this person has just demonstrated is that ruining other people's experience is a high enough priority to them to invest an amount of time and energy most consider significant into an activity that is directly harmful to the game experience. That core mindset is unlikely to be altered through temporary punishment, and removal is likely the only actual fix.

Good news, company mate retrieved me! I was able to log in and unload the boat that he was so kind to save. Since the boat isn't between servers I can log in again. Log in, load the war boat (because fuck the boat that just got me stuck between the server walls)to get a wood variant, go through server wall no problem. Farm and load wood variant, did not see ghost ships, traveling back. While going back through server wall get ported to boat I got stuck on last night under the stairs. FML demolish my way out and company mate shoots me. Try to load in on the war ship, now it's stuck between servers. why? help? The last 3 times I've had a chance to play, I've been unable to play because I am stuck between servers since the rollback. You are close to losing a player.

I fall into the multiple repeating ruins reports here. With that Dolly, I'm willing to leave my character in the lost state for a very long time if you are working in a solution. I've already bought a second copy of the game to continue playing. Just answer this... Do you expect the missing characters to ever be restored?
