With this being mostly a ocean game and sailing game why isnt there a megalodon? it could follow a path like the ghost ship, maybe it could randomly spawn in a trench, could even add a chum system using meat to lure it or something. OR, (just thought of this) Make it one of the large creatures (like hydra and drake) that you have to fight for a power stone. Would be perfect for another quest.

Beloved Dev's - Any ETA on the fix to be able to rename ships, just as easy as we can with Tames? Thank you

Would it be possible for you guys to zip up your SavedAtlasLocal folder and send it to me? Jat@studiowildcard.com - I'll check it out

You raise a fair point, will flag it up to the team and perhaps it's something we'll be able to do in one of our future patches. There is certainly more logs/info we'd like to add onto the Company Log.

Not a bug, unfortunately. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. They patched out the ability to do damage to the armies of the damned with anything but melee and tames about a month ago. Lots of people were initially upset by this (myself included), but most of them have left the game at this point.

Pfft. I gave at the office. And by the office I mean I already put my idea out there in the underpowered sharks thread. Flying sharks with lasers would fix everything overnight. I’ll put Boomer’s guarantee on that. Also, I’m pretty sure it’s a federal law you can’t have a thread with this title without including the theme music. You’re welcome

Since single player and local multi-player are also options, counting the number of people on unofficial servers will not accurately represent the number of players that do not play on official servers.

I freely admit that although I generally try to eradicate full fleets (assuming they take up a spawn slot?), when I am low on ammo, I resort to cherry picking the high levels out of a fleet. I *really* wish that there was an aging mechanism to the fleets outside of freeports, so that the longer they lasted, the higher level they'd get. That would make the least visited zones be really valuable to patrol once in a while (and also really dangerous).

Yeah when a game becomes a job, it’s time to move on.

You simply missed a plank. People do this all the time. 28 on a schooner, 40 on a brig and I forget how many on a galleon. I refuse to build/own one due to the upkeep. Point is they are easily missed. Them: "I repaired all the planks and checked them twice" Me: "I just found one at 1800hp." Them: "Oops" Like I said it happens all the time. Some people are worse than others. I've Watched people checking planks and skip over one. Maybe something is in the way and its hard to get a proper angle on it, maybe they got distracted. All I know is I've seen people miss them and lose ships and blame the game then catch the same damn person missing planks on my boats. Humans. If it can be fucked up we can fuck it up. Getting most people to admit that their mistake cost them a ship.....yeah good luck with that one.

Economy is the key to success for atlas: -marketplaces on freeports to sell resources, items, ships and tames And serverwide connection of those stores (ex: all 4 stores in a Freeport server share the same goods etc) So people have more acces points and blocking is not that easy If this results in massive server overpopulation you can split freeports servers into 4 own server (triangles) -storehouse on freeports for companies (and private) where people can bring their stuff and store gold and from which transactions are calculated -gold generation! More ways for gold to get into the game -gold consumption! (maybe companies have to pay for the amount of crewmembers, a big safe (structure) to store money for company <= only one per comp) great for smaller ones and big company size is expensive, need for more interactions -blackboard in freeports for comps to recruit new players and new players find comps for joining or renting) This is important, finding a safe place to life should not be a long and frustrating procedure -private message ability: pigeons maybe + pigeon house where messages can be read Comes with the blackboard, people must have a way to contact those companies who offer recruitment or renting -and a tavern on freeports where you can buy Crewmember that spawn ON your ship, there is no need at all that they spawn in the middle of the island and have to follow us, especially if the freeports get more crowded. Crewmember selling guy asking on which ship you want to have them and if you buy them they will be there -if above is implemented QUIT farming events like x4 to not f**k up economy! Why? Because this is not ark, even it feels like it it got special needs to work, it's an MMO(Interaction) where the first M stands for Massive what means 'a lot' and so there needs to be a lot of interactions available (especially some not completely frustrating ones) And why economy in a pirate game? Because there is no piracy without economy.. Think about history ^^ Atm people have no reason to drive with a ship other than discovering or treasure maps, travels are long and not even exciting, encounters are rare and if then totally random. With economy you can calculate an encounter of you wish to have one, you can set traps or patrol routes of trading ships. And if lucky you will also get a reward for being a pirate! And you also have a reason to use ships which rizes the traffic on the seas because people want to get their peace of the trading cake and sell their resources or maybe they want to buy a super nice blueprint ship? Or a bred tiger! This economy change forces people to get out there for a reason, and make some money with what they have on their own island, perfect I tried to think about all the content to fit into the game as it already is so that there is no need of another wipe With those things implemented there are a lot of new opportunities even for new players and for smaller comps

Once upon a time, we had a flourishing company of swashbuckling gents and ladies that worked together tirelessly to build a harbor with stunning docks filled with ships, a town bustling with activity, and a castle to hold our treasures and defend our people. The area around it was surrounded with individual villas, farms, and breeding grounds scattered throughout the island. People would visit our island and stop to trade or come in and ask to settle and we would happily help get them established. We had explorers who went out and established outposts for trading and farming of rare resources. We built amazing structures that spanned vast chasms and reached to the highest heights that helped our fellow adventurers find vast treasures that they wouldn't otherwise have been able to reach. But those days are long gone. Our island has nothing but ghosts of memories left. The animals have become feral again and the structures and beautiful galleons have started to decay. What was once a utopia has now become ruins. It wasn't anything to travel into town and then immediately set off on a grand adventure to go kill a mythical hydra and secure a powerstone, to battle high level Ships of the Damned, to hunt giant whales, to explore and discovery vast treasures, or hunt and tame dangerous creatures. But now we shout out and hear nothing but an echo. Our cries for companionship and camaraderie fall on nothing but the ears of the damned and they laugh at our sadness. What is now to become of our world? Yep, that's just kind of how I've felt for the last few weeks logging on. Our company once had 50+ people with 20+ being logged in at any given time but now we're down to 2-3 being on. Many took breaks with promises to login every few days to take care of stuff but haven't been back for weeks and then come on and find that their ships are missing (even the ones that were in our port within our settlements) and probably won't ever be back. It just sucks more and more every day and gets harder to login and try to hop around to the ships and structures we have left to keep them from disappearing or to keep the animals and ship crews fed and paid.

Thanks for the email guys. I received 4 in total and all of the crashes are not reproducing on our latest version of Single Player and Non-Dedicated Mode. I was able to load every single save file. It's likely with our most recent batch of changes that this has been fixed. This patch will be deployed sometime within the next 48 hours I imagine -- and will have a bunch more SP related fixes too.
  14. 1 point
We working on this too, it's currently being tested by our team so hopefully, it'll be good to go with the release of the game mode. Though you'll want to sail in tandem with the host in order to make sure you're not pulled off your boat for exceeding the tether range. It's recommended that you slow down once you get towards a transition wall, so that everyone can be together rather than sailing off into the distance.
  15. 1 point
It will be the entire map, there will be a tether range (limitation for playing as a server and a client at the same time), and you do have to stay on the same grid as one another; only the host will be able to initiate a transfer as the host is the server, so they control which grid is active or not.

Please let animals turn in place, without having to move forwards. It would make moving them around in tight spaces, or on ships much easier. Imagine if ships could only turn when moving forward. They would be so frustrating to use as to be almost unusable.

Also note if you lost structures because TS wasn't fully updated and on your list and then logged out, you likely won't get them back after updating the mod as Atlas would have saved when you exited, without those structures present. Same would happen in Ark when an update for S+ would come out and I loaded without putting S+ in the list again, but Ark kept multiple saves to roll back to, Atlas does not, you have to manually save a backup(probably because the world saves are a lot larger). So, especially with structure mods you're using, make sure the mod is updated and on your list before opening the game, they may only be in the lower list of downloaded mods after an update, but you have to add them to the top list before loading single player. It's because of this I haven't gotten fully on board using TS, I have tested it out but my base and ships are with vanilla structures, I don't want to lose stuff because the modder stops updating in the future or I forget to check.
  18. 1 point
It's annoying, but both Ark and Atlas eventually just hang loading mods into the directory. You need to exit the game and restart it, then it will download more. You may need to do this a few times.
  19. 1 point
Total structures has been updated several times recently. You will need to download latest version. As for only being able to run just the one mod, make sure that they are fully downloaded by steam before starting the game.

Ok so as a land owner. Say you get an island you see something that doesn't fit or whatever I mean ultimately it could be someones house at this point. But as a landowner you have a different kind of flag you can place down that covers some kind of radius around that flag. Anyone that has something built solo or if it is a small group that someone in the group can do. You get idk ex amount of days let's say 4 or 5 to protest it. But after that if nobody protest it then anything in that radius goes away including the flag that was put down. Some kind of message has to be sent to whoever items are involved and if it belongs to a group everyone in the group gets the message. I mean for most people (besides a few) they don't care about the actual buildings it is the spam they want to clear up. So most will not try to do it on buildings that people are living in. So it could help with the spam stuff. The only issue is those that come and try to stop it on the spam stuff then you need another step involved to move forward and that step I have no clue to be honest. Something along those lines idk

So, why aren't leaks and what caused them on the Company Log? Devs, FIX THIS!!!
  22. 1 point
It was by design that players weren't able to rename ships, as we had some intentions surrounding keeping a log for each boat on board, in order to follow it's 'voyage'. Whilst the renaming-prevention implementation may need some work (as highlighted above), there is an argument that it be scrapped until that entire system is in place. So whilst there isn't an ETA right now, it may be something that you see changed in the future.
  23. 1 point
I agree, I think that anything that results in damage or loss of assets should have a headline entry with an expandable details panel that outlines what happened to cause the event. This is especially important in EA when we're expected to report bugs and whatnot.

How about not making the same "Population is X = Game is Dead/Dying" thread over and over and over... believe it or not it would actually help. I'm serious. That's my suggestion. Reviews are on the rise. New sales are too. WPE is sure to bring in some old and new (if all you care about it population) and who knows what's slated for MU4 or beyond. There's still 17months of EA. The devs themselves have made it clear they do not care about the concurrent numbers at this point in development. Your username is Realist ffs. Its ironic really.

Turn around without moving, turn right and left while backing, turn around while swimming, make bigger animals push smaller animals away (elephant getting stuck in a sheep is beyond stupid) and for love of everything unholy MAKE BEARS ABLE TO CLIMB AT LEAST SOME DEGREE OF INCLINATION!! Haven't you ever seen a bear at least in a zoo IRL? Those suckers can even climb to trees.

As Long as he Dont Share spawn with normal Sharks XD but would love some More Variation on Sea Which is Dangerous. Make it biom dependet as we have sperm whales in the polar Region add megalodon to tropical And low desert can keep the squid but let the squid be able to attack ships And grab them or so
  27. 1 point
They could make it stay underwater and aggressively attack ships and when it attacks it "breaches" the surface and that's the only time it can be attacked. I kinda like the chumming idea too.
  28. 1 point
@boomervoncannon It means pick your poison: On one hand, you have a server operator who can and probably will enforce the most ridiculous rule changes and modifications at their own discretion, and on the other hand you have a handful of people running an unofficial server.

I would have rather seen an auction house type system.
  30. 1 point
I wholeheartedly agree that the strong impression I'm consistently getting is that they lack the practical knowledge of play experience within the game to a meaningful degree.
  31. 1 point
I agree, that plus ship decay makes them worthless in the only place they make sense in. It would really help if the developers would actually play their game. Apart from messing around with new stuff via console commands. It is pretty obvious that they are not knowing about how impractical most of their decisions are.
  32. 1 point
Lol, fix it before I have to play it! Kidding aside, I would love to fix Atlas for you, and I think there's at least a decent chance that console launch represents a second chance for the game to sell itself to an entire market free of the negative stigma of the game's inauspicious beginnings. I just can't write a lick of code and have no experience of game design, but I'll do what I can from here as long as it's not getting Jat's coffee. I agree that quests, real quests, do seem to represent low hanging fruit at this point.
  33. 1 point
While I understand your frustration and agree that these devs could improve communication particularly in the area of answering questions (it's one thing when Jat only logs on every few days, he has development responsibilities, but dedicated community managers should be more active), there is also a certain amount of truth to what Martyn said above. But everything you said is entirely true and valid, if you aren't having fun, find something that is and come back to Atlas later. Life is short, you don't owe anyone for how you spend your leisure time. Until we meet again, may the forces of evil become confused on the way to your house.

lets say you release a ship if you click OK with no name in it you can NOT rename it if you click CANCEL with no name in it you can rename it i got two where i clicked ok but f it. mine wich i can not rename are now called Brigantine and on the heck of the ship there is nothing written, an empty plate. renaming ship with CD would be great but idk if it should be if you already gave it a real name. maybe one time change for typing errors.
  35. 1 point
Exactly. Every bottom level on schooner and bigger is a hotspot for mistakes because of how easy it is to miss one looking at upper one, or because chest was in the way when checking from inside. I've missed one or two so many times during routine maintenance from inside that now i'm always swimming around my ship. Until I won't find anything twice. Carefully. I'm still in awe how often i miss one or two on first swim through. Once in the ages I tended to miss one on second swim around on brigantine.

*shrugs* I’m not going to assume responsibility for whether the game lives or dies even though I like it well enough to play it. I have done my part: bought the game, offered feedback here as clearly and honestly as I can, and been directly responsible for at least 3 friends buying and trying the game as well. The numbers are what they are. I do not pretend to have any particular insight into whether console release will actually happen or not, but I don’t know how much, if any, current activity numbers have any bearing on that decision. The only information I have in hand are developer statements that they aren’t particularly concerned with activity numbers at this stage. I’m willing to accept this as a working premise but if I woke up one day to discover the plug had been pulled it wouldn’t shock me either. The point is since I don’t know I’m not gonna dwell on it. I don’t see anything wrong with asking folks to contribute ideas, but whether the devs will take any such ideas and use them would be a decision making process by people who have not exactly guided Atlas into the sunshine of good reviews and a strong player base, therefore there is a definite limit on how much help we can give.
  37. 1 point
Not going to sail around endlessly to find shops that may or may not have interesting goods or being restocked. It maybe would have worked with the playerbase they aimed for, but i really doubt they will ever get there. Apart from the ridiculous costs to have them in Freeports, the decay ruins the idea as well. It is like going shopping knowing your car will be keyed while you browse.

im not saying atlas doesnt need improving, but its summer and its vacation time, summer always drops game pops... maybe even more in atlas's case.

A question: If all of your friends and company mates came back, right now today, what would they do that they have not already done? What grand deeds, audacious adventures or glorious quests would they pursue? The quests that ha e been added thus far feel more like a checklist to be completed than anything epic. I am unsurprised they have not lured your compatriots back. Some of the things that may have driven them away are fixed, some are not. Perhaps they merely require more time for the game to be fleshed out, or perhaps they fled sensing the developers have no coherent vision or don’t know how to enact it if they do. All I can tell you for sure is that No Man’s Sky is proving the truth of the old saying: The opera ain’t over til the fat lady sings.

Exact same problem - crashes loading ocean map today worked fine last night. Can logon to my unofficial dedicated server just fine.
  41. 1 point
They need to put a delay on releasing ships like there is on almost everything else. The fact you can release a ship with an accidental click makes no sense. (And yeah, I've done it a few times).

Location. Location. Location. Story time. So I was minding my own business sailing the around this wide open donut we call the Atlas with the wind blowing -75 to Port when I spotted a White Whale off the Starboard side. Pretty close but nothing to be concerned about, or so I thought. So I held my course fully expecting to just sail on by. Turns out my client (or the whale) was out of sync pretty bad because the next thing I know the Bow starts taking some serious damage. *cue battle music* Planks explode. Ships goin down. No mats or spares on board just gold. Real clusterfuck of a situation. So I bank hard to Port into the wind, adjust the sails, and pray to Poseidon that we can make it to shore in time. Upon arriving, to my surprise, I find a dock with a shop perfectly positioned and stocked with everything needed to patch up before it was too late. I'm talking Pirates of the Caribbean style where Jack pulls in just as the ship sinks.gif Are they useful? Absolutely!

If the devs had a strong direction to take the game, people would come back. If there was a greater sense of participation to be had, people would come back. If a rationale for PvP and if asshattery was greatly discouraged, people would come back.

I was talking about the EA release of ARK up to its official release. Not post-release. It was a fairly polished experience at that point compared to the first year of development. Comparisons to ARK are common around here because it's practically the same devs and Atlas started as a forked branch of ARK not on a clean slate. So it's really easy to draw parallels. The term Beta represents a stage of development, EA's vague description allows it to cover multiple stages ranging from a Minimal Viable Product to a Feature Complete Product that needs a little testing prior to release.

Its a green fleet, not exactly smt which is supposed to be dangerous for a gally.
  46. 1 point
Great post with interesting points. Food for thought. One question: How did you arrive at the 15% of Ark’s playerbase being official number, because I never found a reliable source for that info or came up with an accurate way to guesstimate it, and I was always curious.
  47. 1 point
I don't think it's a lack of a roadmap. They knew exactly what they wanted to do. Make a PvP sandbox game with a massive map where large guilds/clans could fight it out for domination. Also add some PvE boss fights. Basically Ark, but making server transfers that much easier. Unfortunately I think they really missed what made Ark a success. Hint: It wasn't people playing in Alpha Tribes on the official servers. The official server population in Ark makes up about 15% of the people playing at any given time. As for Atlas, it was around 65% on the four official servers. It's been around 55% since single player has become available. Because so few people actually play on Ark Official servers, the Ark devs (who's management and much of the creative team created Atlas) never felt the need to make Official servers playable for a wider array of people. And because each server can only hold 70-100 people it doesn't really matter as the 6500-9000 can fill up quite a few official servers. Or at least give a large number of them good player density. Though in Atlas, where the game world can handle up to 35k and you have four servers, 1500-3500 players at peak doesn't make for high population densities. It's not that they didn't have a roadmap, it's the concept was faulty from the beginning. They didn't analyst Ark's success. Which is heavily reliant on single player and unofficial servers. And in creating the Atlas world map as they have, it means you won't get the same game play experience as you do on the official servers. With Ark, every map is the same, official or unofficial. You can have the same, or even an enhanced experience. I've spent quite a few hours on unofficial Atlas servers and they are missing way too much. Now they are stuck with no clear way forward because they don't even understand the nature of the problem.
  48. 1 point
Totally disagree. Mega's and big company's just exist in pvp. Because the ppl want to blow up other ships and don't be raided every day. So they search a big company to join and hide behind the mass. In pve it's totally different. Nobody have to fear another and can build up as big as he want. No need for protection = several companies more, small to smaller ones. And if u just keep an eye on the forum, u can see, that there's 4 time more threads and activities in the pve forums. So the argument about these big company's just grab for around 15...20% of the entire playerbase. But now btt: I feed my tames all 3...5 days. If the larder or the feeding through is empty, the tames still get around 2000 food or more in reserve. So it takes surely more than a week, until it's critical. The only problem, if you play solo is the decay timer for the structures. If u don't get a gamesitter, u will loose nearly everything
  49. 1 point
And/or let us put ice/preserving salt into the larder/trough to increase the decay timer. Even if it's half the affect of the preserving bags it'd still help.
