Who the hell wants cross play with a bunch of snotty kids that have aim assist because they are on console. OP is a perfect example.
  2. 2 points
Everybody's talking about wipes lately because of the impending console release, the changed islands on the ptr, and the strange idea that server wipes would bring a crowd of people back to the game. Wipes without some amazing new features for the players do a lot of harm to the existing player base that's left. Maybe it's exciting starting all over again....the first couple times. After that it becomes an enormous chore of just replacing everything you've lost until you get back to where you were before the wipe and can do something new. If there is another complete server wipe without some great benefit and new feature coming, there will be another huge drop in players. We know this because we can look back to the last wipe and see the ghost towns that were left as soon as it was announced, and the continued drop in the numbers. And no, we are not "testers" who should expect no consideration at all. We are customers who have paid for the game, who understand that while bad things can happen in EA, we expect the company in charge to care about whether we're enjoying it. And really, there are very few reasons to conduct a complete server wipe. Players want to preserve their bases, their tames, their character levels and skills, and any rare inventory they might have. You can wipe landscape without wiping characters, and vice versa. You can wipe skills but leave the skillpoints intact. You can even preserve and restore possessions or claims or anything else you want to do. People assume that every landscape change demands a complete wipe. It doesn't. They could change every island in the game and still preserve the character data. They could set aside one unchanging zone for "refugees" and allow everyone to load up a galleon with whatever they want to save and park there while the change happens. Something similar was done before when new islands were added. The message went out to clear out of those areas ahead of time and people did. If they are only changing 10 islands in the game, they could give those island owners plenty of notice, allow them to get all their important stuff out of the way, and reset the claim for them after the change. They still have to rebuild, but it's much less painful to do that if the char data, the claim, and some possessions are retained. It's even less painful if there are good neighbors pitching in with mats to help. (And that's the sort of thing that builds community in games) NPC islands are a landscape change and don't demand a full server wipe in their own right. Any of the above can be done to bring in NPC islands. People also assume that crossplay would demand a wipe. That's pretty silly. The advent of crossplay is nothing more than an influx of new players. An influx of new players doesn't demand a wipe. Presumably that's going to happen over the entire lifespan of the game. Is it going to get wiped every time there's a Steam sale? Off the top of my head, I can't think of any single change significant enough to require an entire server wipe of the landscape, the character data, and all the possessions, except server mergers.

The game was sold as early access but not alpha state, you are conflating two things, one of which is true and accurate, and one of which is not. Feel free to review or examine any marketing materials or information GrapeCard has ever presented about Atlas. If you find the word alpha in any of them, let me know. You may consider the game's development state to be equivalent to alpha, but your estimation of that is not the same as how the game was marketed and sold. This goes back to a core problem I have with the concept of Early Access, it is too broad and poorly defined. As I have said previously elsewhere by way of comparison Atlas was released into Early Access in a very early stage of development, the only elaboration on this players were provided was that EA was expected to last at least 2 years. Satisfactory was released into Early Access a few months later and immediately felt like a nearly finished game needing only slight polish and adding the endgame content. Both games are marketed as Early Access, but the quality of product a player is getting when they purchase that EA can vary widely. With regards to your statement about how Early Access allows smaller developers to bring games to market that might not otherwise see the light of day, this is true and from the players point of view the main virtue of Early Access. Wildcard studios which developed Ark and forked off GrapeCard to make Atlas, does not really fit into this category any longer. I'm not sure how big the pile of cash they are sitting on from Ark's success is, but it's certainly big enough to cause skepticism of any assertion they are just a small indie studio with a limited budget and this is the only way they can get their game out. One important point on that front is that while MMO's generally have some of the biggest development costs, it is also true that a large (more than 50%) portion of a game's development budget goes into the marketing and advertising for the game. GrapeCard launched Atlas's EA with effectively little to no money spent on marketing, so not only do they have plenty of money from Ark's success to fund this game, but their approach probably has cut the required budget at least in half. All of this considerably weakens the argument that what they are doing is necessary.

Most of this I agree with in spirit if not in tone, however... You have underlined fantasy as a negative, saying the game was sold to you as pirate, and implying fantasy was left out. The forum's masthead has had a flying airship on it from day one, and the initial trailer showed numerous fantasy elements such as hydras and cyclops, so implying the game was presented as pure pirate themed and not pirate/fantasy is at odds with the facts. You don't have to like the fantasy part, but if you missed that it wasn't purely pirate themed before buying, that's on you not the devs. I do agree that if you want people to buy into Early Access to help get your game developed instead of using the old traditional approach of inhouse alpha and beta testing, you would be foolish to completely ignore the input they offer.

Seriously, what the fuck. So just because every game studio behaves like absolute shit nowadays, we should let them get away with it? Get fucked! The game was sold as a pirate survival MMO, too, but it is nowhere near that. Instead, we have this travesty of a fantasy petting zoo and larger-corp-auto-wins "PvP". Neither does it make a difference whether it is 50.000 people each paying 20€ or 20 people each paying 50.000€. If you need the HELP of your customers to even get your game launched, you better pay some extra attention to what they fucking want, instead of displaying that dictator attitude and doing whatever the fuck you want with it.

Wiping the game certainly will not bring me back. The game is simply too time consuming for the average player to remain competitive in pvp. Sure once you have tames you can bang out a galleon in 2-3 hours not counting the hour or so to sail to the freeport and back but then you go to sleep and your npc defences are in capable of stopping someone from sinking it. So you start over the next time you log in it doesn't take long to decide to play something else. Logging in after work and everything you achieved the day before has been reset. There is no reason to carry on doing that
  7. 2 points
People are not leaving because of the claim system... But because of the PVP imbalance causing only wipes and sinking, and the lack of PVP in PVE... But as you are the only one here that does not, because cannot, know the state of the game... you are just pushing solution to your fears... Realist cannot own an islands... get rid of claims... Realist as a solo cannot maintain his yuge ARK base, because of gold... get rid of gold... Realist cannot play with other in a dynamic player diplomacy... make factions so atleast some cannot KOS him, although everyone wants do at this point of the conversation with him... Realist cannot compete with his toy against PC periphery... remove PC from 'his' game...

    1. Ship-Rear Cosmetics/Skins So we have figureheads, steering wheel skins and soon, sail skins. This might be a large suggestion, but the Brig and Galleons have cosmetic "cabin" styling on the backs of them. I propose new skins be made for the Ship itself that adds cosmetic changes to the back of ships. Maybe dragon heads from the back, working up the side? A skull? Hydra head? Cyclops hands? 2. PvE Servers, Allow Ship Claiming After Inactivity Currently, there is no ship claiming on the PvE servers. I feel like ships should be claimable if the player and/or company has not been online or entered the area within maybe 2 weeks? 1 week? Or simply cause the ship to be "Unclaimed" after 1 or 2 weeks of inactivity. 3. Repair All Structures It would be a tremendous Q.O.L. improvement to allow NPC crew to repair all structures including ceilings, cannons, walls, chairs, e.t.c. when the ship is anchored and the NPCs are unseated. Optionally, create a new structure to be placed on a ship in which you assign an npc crewmate to be in charge of repairing all other misc. structures on the ship. 4. Unseat All Crew I don't know about other players, but when I get off my ship, I unseat at least 4 crew members to ensure my ship's essentials are repaired before the next time I set off. This would be another amazing Q.O.L. improvement for the ship to have an implemented option to unseat all crew. 5. Man Your Stations Add an option to NPC crew on ships that assigns them a specific position on-board. Then add an additional option on-board the ship for assigned crew to "Man Stations." 6. Handling Sail; Reverse Allow Handling Sails to provide faster Reverse speeds. As it stands, ships can currently back up no matter what. If the Ship layout includes a Handling Sail, this ship should reverse slightly faster. 7. Captain's Deck Currently, the Galleon is the only ship that comes with a snap-able slot for a receded Deck to be placed higher up at the back of the ship. I propose another optional Deck slot be added to the back end of Brigantines and Schooners, like the Galleons, for cleaner and more aesthetically pleasing ship designs. (The Brigantine is especially difficult to make the ceilings and walls line up with the back end of the ship.) 8. Careening @mKHammerBro Introduce a new mechanic to ground Ships to scrape and clean the underside of the hull. In the past, this process was called Careening, or Heaving Down. Barnacles and other sea life clings to the underside and rots away at the wood. This could also introduce a new way to repair your ship's planks or add a temporary repair and/or speed buff to your ship. 9. Mooring @ikarirain Introduce a new item to be crafted at Smithy's from the Seamanship tree, Bollard. There are instances where a ship is too large to reach an anchor-able point, so it's been proposed to allow ships the ability to be moored in by ropes to Bollards, which can be placed on piers or shipyards, to safely "anchor" the ship in your territory, given anchoring isn't possible. Additionally, increase the amount of Bollards needed to moor a ship depending on the ship's size and/or weight. 10. Select All or Individual Sail Controls @Shakarian Ability to control all sails from the wheel, or select which individual sails to give certain commands to. For instance, all sails selected by default. But press keys similar to the cannon crews to deselect certain sails. 11. Look-Out / Telescope @Aristocrates It is known that being at the top of a mast gives the player a slightly larger render-distance so they can see ships and such ahead of time, but it would be nicer if there was a Telescope sort of attachment to build on the Smithy that could be attached to the top of the mast, further improving this render distance for preparation or avoidance purposes. 12. Collidable Figureheads @Grodgen Collidable Figureheads: Currently they have no collision. You can't stand on them and it also limits their functionality as actual figureheads. 13. Rotatable Weight & Handling Sails @Kaitlynn Allen Add an option to rotate Weight Sails and Handling Sails 180 degrees when placed, depending on your desired placement at the front or back of the ship. 14. Rigging That Connects The Front Sail To The Figurehead @Kaitlynn Allen Add an option to connect sails via rigging placed at the front of the to the bow sprite/figurehead. 15. Catch Net @RebelMarmoset Add a structure for the front or sides of ships that catches flotsam and/or fish. Consequently, the longer the net is lowered, or the more items it catches, the more it slows the ship down. If you like any of these options, please reply to this thread with your comments and feel free to suggest some more ideas pertaining to ships! And a special thank you to @Jatheish for taking the time to read this! Loving the game.

We’ll have further updates on this at a later time. For those not familiar with what the Pirate Encampments system is, you can read about it here: enforcement Our Enforcement protocol has been expanded to include temporary bans. This means that enforcement will now include three tiers of action rather than two: Temp bans, Permabans, and HWID bans. Whether your offence receives a temporary ban or not will be at the discretion of our Enforcement team. For the most part, temporary bans will likely be appropriate when enforcing against player misconduct, namely, chat related misconduct. Repeat offenders may receive longer bans, or in some cases, enforcement action will be escalated to permanent bans. Moving forward, in regards to some players feeling that what they said in-game was not deserving of a permaban: We work with the overall community and within our own company guidelines to identify what disruptive behavior and misconduct are and what the consequences for those behaviors should be. If your disruptive behavior has resulted in a permaban, it was either deemed highly excessive and harmful or this is not the first time you have been informed that your actions were inappropriate and unwelcome on our network. Please bear in mind that bans, both temporary and permanent, are seldom revoked. If you feel your ban was issued in error or seek clarification on the nature of your ban, bans can be appealed here live game patches v218.24 - Fixed a case where ships would enter a broken state where it visually appears to be unanchored, but you wouldn't have been able to move it. - Releasing a ship from a shipyard now has an activation timer - Fixed a bug which would cause players to throw items out of their inventory when rapidly pressing E to equip them - End of Magic Mythos event on Official Servers - Critical Save Changes to Non-ATLAS Dedi/Blackwood which fixes the following, but may require a save wipe: Players were randomly removed from their company Companies being deleted Being unable to spawn on beds Beds not appearing on the map Ships not appearing on the map Additional info on Blackwood/Non-ATLAS Dedi changes: v218.21 - Prevented the hotbar from outlining red with broken items when at the ship wheel - Fixed a bug which prevented melee attack with weapons whilst carried by Lion - Fixed a bug which caused players to lose most control of their characters after dying to exhaustion when shoveling (was previously solved by relogging) - Fixed a bug where buoys would not provide light and be desynced on the ocean at high waves - Fixed a bug which would not allow players to change the name of the ship if they hadn't previously given it a name (this only occurred when pressing accept without naming it, rather than cancel) - Fixed a bug where the reload mini game would not take effect when mounted on creatures - Multiple Misc Blackwood Level related fixes (floating foliage, ocean water transitions, holes). v218.21 - Fixed a crash which would occur when attempting to open a Dinghy's inventory - Fixed Advanced Able Mapmaker being unlocked by the wrong skill - Fixed Ship Max Level being erroneously counted by the Shipyard's current health rather than the total health. - Fixed dedicated servers not using passwords on Blackwood - Fixed a case when searching for Blackwood servers would cause only one to list at a time - Fixed a bug where corpses with inventories would not calculate their correct weight - Fixed a bug which wouldn't allow you to select the Home Server to change to on Unofficial Networks - You can now plant an assortment of seeds in Blackwood - Fixed multiple islands on Blackwood being marked as non-buildable - Fixed a bug where beds would sometimes not function on Blackwood - Fixed Shipwrecks spawning on the coast of islands in Blackwood - Fixed multiple foliage and terrain bugs with Blackwood - Moved the 'Exit to Main Menu' button to the bottom of the pause menu options v218.15 - Fixed a client-side crash (https://pastebin.com/U3QN7KyQ) - Blackwood content moved to optional DLC, for those who do not plan to play it and want to save the install size (10GB): https://store.steampowered.com/app/1129370/Blackwood__ATLAS_Expansion_Map/ - Added multiple treasure map locations per island for Single Player and Non-Dedicated Game Modes v218.14 - Client-side fix for Treasure Map crash v218.13 - Blackwood is available! There may be sometimes and there may not be other times. Regarding discovery points, you can wipe all reference to dp that don't exist anymore. No "dangling references", no giving more DP than possible. Nobody expects rescue boats of admins, but allowing people to rescue themselves has been done before, and keeps people happy. Wipes for fairness? LOL. They shut down an entire pve server and gave it to pvp for over a week. There are no established "rules of fairness" happening here, and it's a bad argument. You might as well say existing players had to fight griefing players who kept sinking their ships, hacking their pin codes, and killing them with repair hammers, so we have to bring all that back too, because..fairness. Good arguments have to do with keeping the game moving forward and retaining the player base. But if you want to talk about fairness, first you have to remember that that means different things in pvp and pve. Second, WPE isn't a "new player" situation. Are you trying to say that if someone starts playing the game next November and WPE is on official, it's unfair to them to have to fight WPE, when the existing players didn't, so everyone has to get wiped for "fairness"? What happens if they have a big steam sale and 2000 people buy the game next Feb.? Wipe the servers for "fairness" again? I'm speaking mostly about pve here, and pvp has its own challenges for bringing in new players when the older ones can just flatten them. But this is something every game has to solve - how to prevent newbie ganking. So far, none of the other games have decided to wipe the servers when someone new joins to prevent this. As much as I'd like to see WPE on official, it's a silly idea anyway, because it's so temporary. Sure, there's empty islands they could go on right now, or you could wipe the place and it would be empty for them, but at some point, the servers will be fully loaded like they used to be, and all the islands will be claimed. New people will have to wait to get an island from someone who is leaving on pve or fight for it on pvp. If you've been playing since December, think back to how that was, and realize it will be like that again some day. There won't be any place for WPE, so the idea is all done at that point. It's a concept that needs a rethink. They need to be put on unbuildable adventure islands or something.

1.- It was never stated that the game was in alpha state (prove me wrong) 2.- I dont care if my voice count i am a gamer not a developer, my job is to play the game not to fix it therefore the fact that i have an opinion doesnt imply that i want my opinion implemented, implementing changes doesnt benefit me, it benefits them, i can just go and play someting else while they are stuck with a game that has already lost 90% of its initial player base, so this is not about me. as i said i dont rly care about the game being on EA, but i do care about the lack of transparency and the shady tactics used to cashgrab easy money when the game is barely playable and to top it off the fact that they literally stoped working on the pc version to focus on the xbox release is at the very least shamefull.
  15. 1 point
Very true. I am getting trashed on right now lol. If could even be a lot more simple. If it isn’t crossplay then there definitely will not be a wipe which would make everyone happy, so if crossplay isn’t happening they need to hurry up with that answer right away. it is always better to just let people know about a wipe though. I think they would get mad that something like that was hidden from them. I know I would. So yeah, even if they don’t have a date and even if they don’t want to confirm or deny a wipe, at the very least they could do is say yes or no to crossplay. That shouldn’t be hard. Just one sentence. totally see where you are coming from though and I agree.
  16. 1 point
its most likely because if people knows another wipe is coming many of them will stop playing, yet thats not a good enough reason to watch people fight in forums and call eachother names when they could simple step up and clarify the matter even if they dont have exact dates.
  17. 1 point
Well I want an answer so I will keep asking. It doesn’t matter if console release is next month or a year from now. they do know if they are going for crossplay and they do know if they will wipe. I will stop asking when I get an answer. Feel free to put me on ignore, but don’t expect me to let it go. You will be disappointed. if you have noticed I haven’t bothered asking about a date because I am sure they don’t know it. I have a pretty good idea when but regardless, there are things they do know and it is causing tensions to be high by then not giving the information they do have. One more fail for them.
  18. 1 point
That is not a fact at all. It is far from the truth actually. I have stayed diligent with the way I envision this game. You might not like my opinion or my vision but I assure you I am serious about it. man that words gets overly used nowadays. It is used for almost anything really.

what if i told you i dont give a flying fuck about their bussines plan? what if i told you i paid to play a game in early access not a game in alpha state?? what if i told you that the game is being totally ignored because they are too busy with the xbox release to grab more easy money instead of fixing absolutely anything?? we are 8 fucking months into EA and we still have the same ping as 6 months ago even with 2 people in a grid, same freezes, same bugs. are you rly that mediocre and conformist that you dont even want to see what is infront of you????
  20. 1 point
Listen here, kid. Nobody needs your permission to express their opinion here. If you don't like what he says, feel free to fucking ignore it. If i told you to shut the fuck up, go away and never come back, would you feel obligated to follow that advice? Neither does he. Because this game is in early access, so it is not finished yet. Yet we still gave our money to GS, so it is only fair that we get to know the direction this game is heading, because we kind of invested our money into them making the game. We are not mere customers, mind you! If it weren't for our monetary support, development of this game would have gotten shut down months ago. The only thing that tells us not everything is going down the drain is GS not getting tired to repeat that they "are taking this game very seriously" and they will "continue to work as best they can". But in reality, this could as well be just lip service, because so far they have only managed to release one pile of bullcrap after another. This game has a looooooong way to go and i do not see them taking steps into the right direction at all. Wait until you learn about books. Boy, are you going to hate those.

Don't mind him. He has made it very clear he doesn't care about PC players and has said how he feels about them/us. But yet he is here trying to have debates with PC players that is playing a game that isn't even out on console yet that he doesn't know much about besides reading and seeing a few videos on. He is such a hypocritical troll if there has ever been one. That is 100%fact not a opinion.

I would like for the incredibly low player count to be addressed as well as how you think you will be able to attract new player and bring old players back. This game only succeeds one way and that is to have a large player base. Content creators are going to be your best source of advertising so I think it is incredibly important to keep this game content creator friendly.

You still got no idea about the game because u don't play it. Or do you write to Porsche too, if theyr brand new carrera don't fit with your opinion? Please shut up! Don't write about the playerbase anymore. Nobody interests for that. Not even the devs and u know that. And don't shoot against others just because they got "white or black" in theyr names. Or are you a fucking racism douchebag?! So come back to OP: Charts don't say anything about the buisenessplan of GS. I wrote it down a few months ago and repeat it just for you again: you and I, we both have absolutely no idea about the devs roadmap, budget, goals or something else. So why should you, I or someone else who is not in this company know about it? Stop opening each week a new thread about the playerbase, wipes, crossplay or something else you got no idea about. No one wants to read it and no one cares about. Come back if you got something new, interesting to tell or if you get in trouble with the game or the gamemechanics. Then we can talk together, find solutions or WTF IDK... And why do you have to copy always the entire text of someone? Do you think we like scrolling half a day up and down in the forum? Dude this is playtime we all loose because of reading your bs.

I was not a fan of the purge button to begin with. I also think the whole claim system is stupid. i very rarely agree with anything Thorne says and I have no clue how leveling up easily has anything to do with a level playing field. i totally get that pc people need the advantage. I never said they didn’t. Everyone here already knows what i think about pc people as actual people not even as gamers. I have never once strayed from my opinions. A wipe will happen because it needs to happen.

^^^ Is the kind of attitude that enables these guys to continue to sell crap. "I have a lot of the problems the game has to offer and I still love and support it and plan to buy it on a platform that has even less dedicated resources than my PC" Goddness gracious, maybe the game wouldnt have so many issues if they could actually sit down and focus on fixing them, rather than spending trying to shovel this heap onto another platform so they can make a few more dimes since their PC consumer interesting tanked it completely do to the state of the game, poor communication, poor progress, etc. Enable away good Sir, you're why we dont have nice things.

    1. Are there chances of merging NA and EU networks together with west regions being on NA servers and east regions EU servers? 2. What is Grapeshot planning to combat cheater/hackers? Current situation is horrible. Banned/Devwiped ones returning. 3. People want new additional shiptypes, when can we expect them? 4. Have you thought about adding upkeep costs for having big companies? My idea how that should work is here:

I work in Software Development and to some extent I do understand the notion, however architecturally if you don't fix core issues early they become more expensive later. Typically its UI that gets the final polish (you don't paint the house until you have finished building it, but if the the foundations are wrong, no amount of paint will fix it).

Can we get the fire elementals removed from game? They are ridiculous The kraken and ice cave are fun but not worth multiple runs. It would be nice to have smaller caves with loot drops or something worth running numerous times.

pirates give their all in everything they do I guess. I think the they are meme that every swing they do to chop down that tree is only reminding me that they will have to chop down many many many many more before its all over.. they need another slider on options that only turns down human sounds.. Can quiet the laughing and all but then you cant hear gunshots and stuff..

Which it should be. At lthe very least once every 3 months but a month would be fine as well. It is EA after all. If people stay 100+ the whole two years that would be stupid. Especially with how fast people can level now. I think these people forgot they were testers and believe they are actually players at this point. I experienced this with ark as well. Once it came close to official release everyone claimed “I have been playing for this amount of time so you can’t wipe me” they ended up going with that unfortunately. It was pathetic on Jeremy’s part to say the least. the fact that anyone uses the word player and thinks of themselves as a player during EA is disgusting. They are testers and that is all they will be until the game releases. I get so tired of these “EA players” the entitlement is just disturbing at this point. i can’t wait till atlas turns into something completely different(or it fails). Either way they will be in for a rude awakening.

A bit more explanation of the map layout changes, please. What does it look like? What's the purpose of it?

I cannot be the only person who doesn't know this, so I will ask: When will the Livestream be and where can we access it? Edit: Never mind. I just saw the new Captain's Log on Steam - and got my answer.

An armored brig like the above post is good for defence, it will be too heavy to catch anything to sink it. Large cannons have further range so, they are the safest way to inflict damage on the enemy ship. Ship cannons have the highest damage per second so they are the best for getting in close and going for the sink. There is no best ship. It's all just a balance of the way its leveled and what it has to fight. Brigs have the best ratio to gain speed from leveling additional weight. So weight=faster Resistance= take more punishment And damage= harder hitting brig. If you can get shots in where you dont have to take shots, damage is best. If you cant catch them, weight is best, and if you cant outrun them, resist is best. You can always put points in all three for an all round decent brig.

They never spoke about a game going for 30 years. Instead of trying to bully someone that may not have English as their first language, try using your own brain and simply read what they said and figure it out yourself. It's pretty easy to understand what they were saying when they talked about 30 years.

Console players can go play single player if it is such an issue that there are already established players out there. Personally I wouldn't mind being a console player and coming into Atlas as it currently is. I've never played Rust for example, but I wouldn't care that people are established on that game already. I joined Atlas a month after game release when the game was probably at its highest player count. I certainly didn't care that stuff was already established. I didn't need to be amongst the very first to play it. Having people already established on it was part of the fun. The Atlas map is fricken huge. It is easy to find something to do and somewhere to build. Offline raiding and griefing however is what turns people away from the game or will stop new people buying it. Simple things such as a way to store a ship or a few tames safely would make a huge difference. Or just make a way that you could blueprint your ship so that once it gets sunk, you would be allowed to rebuild that exact ship again as long as you have the exact (or even more) amount of resources. Stuff like that would be things that bring and keep people into the game. I don't see having an already established player base in the game as being a real deterrent at all.
