  1. It's very nice to see a post like this, especially with previous history. I do have one question though and I'm not trying to complain about it or harass anyone but I was wondering something. Right now the game is a few weeks old (since Early Access launch). All land is already claimed, even after this short amount of time. I play on PvE simply because it's basically a necessity to be in a big company on PvP to survive which I understand and am fine with. So when everything is claimed on PvE, you cannot get any land. My small company of 5 currently has land in the tundra but the wolf spawn is insane. It definitely makes it a huge challenge to farm anything and we've had a few members quit because of it. They couldn't handle it so they gave up on the game entirely after realizing no better land was available. We desperately want out of the tundra but that's the only place we found a claim that was inactive and didn't have a character sleeping on the land. So we took it and have a few flags down. My main concern is what about in the future? Is the player-base supposed to grow, if so, how? Lawless territory is rapidly filling up since there is no territory left, the southern and northern servers are filling up and people are facing the challenge of wolves, yetis, and the temperature because there is little choice. Ever since we got a foothold in the tundra, we set up and built a few ships and set out on a search for safer, more enjoyable land to build on. None of the servers, we've checked at least the entire eastern quarter of the map, have any land available. There is absolutely no shred of land available already. On PvP the claim system works and is cool and interesting and original but on PvE it just doesn't work. We find territory all the time that has no recent upkeep but cannot claim it simply because whoever quit the game left their character sleeping on the claim for all eternity. I'm not sure how that's supposed to work or how anyone will be able to progress if they joined today for the first time and went on the hunt for land. I do not think limiting amount of claims per company would solve anything because resources would become scarce quickly. The only solution I think would be effective would be to add more clusters. Right now there is NA-PVP, NA-PVE, EU-PVP, EU-PVE and i believe there should be more of them. There should be at least 2 or 3 more of each to accommodate any future player-base growth. Obviously PvP is about being strong enough to maintain land, and if needed, to take it. That is a really cool concept...for PvP. PvE it just doesn't work at all. The new building on others' land is a temporary fix that will accommodate a slight player-base growth but not a large long-term growth. So maybe just adding more clusters for the PvE servers? That's the only solution I think could keep the territory system in place and allow the game to expand. Right now, you have a limit of amount of players that can play the game. Just my thoughts. I enjoy the game and I love the concepts and I love the sailing. I just wish I could enjoy it without taking a step out of my door and getting murdered by 15 very powerful low level wolves and an invincible alpha wolf. It's PvE but it's not like we have gigas and rexes sitting around to eat these overpowered dogs.
  2. Really appreciate you taking the time to post this blog-type-thing, it's great to have some insight Have the spawn right of wild aggressive creatures being brought into consideration? I understand wanting them to be more of a challenge, but as of the last couple days, it feels like we're having to wade through dozens of them to just make it to the shore of the island. We had a wolf spawn inside our taming area, which proceeded to kill our tamed creatures. Which is okay/whatever/can be handled but as we grabbed some weapons to head over there, we had to fight a pack of wolves to get up to the main base, then another pack of wolves to get to the taming base, then the wolf in the taming base, then another pack had come lined up outside the taming base again. I died and spawned at another base on the same island, 8 wolves in range of THAT base. We did eventually kill them all but not without several people dying because we can't outrun them, can't melee them, and either need fire arrows or to stand on a rock for a while (a long while as quite a few Alphas were roaming as well). ATLAS is an amazing world and from the insights in this post, it seems like it's being pushed into a "you never feel safe" direction, which is awesome, but the spawn rate on these wild creatures is getting frustrating, tedious, and grating on my and others player experience.
  3. I could bola a level 69 wolf, regular wolf, no alpha. but i did not get the option to feed it bones, is there a max level the animals can have to tame them?? greets
  4. The monkey must not be set passive. I have mine set to "Attack my target" and when I am attacked by a wolf for instance, it throws the poop. This slows the wolf down so I can back off and get a few arrow shots in and kill it. A real life saver I think.
  5. :Wolves: One trick that I've found with wolves is to build a 2 wide foundation either around your dwelling with doorways built around the outer perimeter (This can also be crafted small safe spot, or as an addition to an existing taming pin), but be sure there are 2 foundations between you and the wolf because of reach. The usual plan is: they see me, I see them (or get attacked) and I run for the defense. The wolf hits the wall and squirms for a bit but then lines up their face for headshots as they bite the wall. I shoot with flintlock or bow. I use stone buildings but wood will suffice with frequent repairs. 8/10 this tactic works for me if I'm surprised or cannot kill them before they get to me. There are times in which the bites come very quickly and I'm unable to get inside the door frames. This is only a suggestion as building structures may not be available to you or the additional foundations prevent resources spawn now. :Vultures: I9 in NA PvE, there is a beach that has the normal spreading of Crocs, wolves, giant snakes, and rattlesnakes, as well as a massive colony of vultures. They seem to dominate the spawn weight and have numbered in the hundreds, blocking the normal spawn of other animals. They are so numerous that it becomes dangerous to gather non-corpse resources. A server restart makes the area a true paradise but 20 minutes later there are 5 . . . 15 . . just large packs of vultures. Their AI seems to scatter after a corpse is consumed and that blows their numbers to the wind causing the dangerous environment for gathering. I hope this helps!

Grapeshot is basically 'that DM' who is hell bent on power tripping over their players, and if you somehow survive their sadistically over-tuned encounter, they just get angry and throw something else at you to try finish the job. "You SURVIVED the at sea ambush by 4 crocodiles? - Well NOW YOU HAVE SCURVY AND YOUR LEGS ARE BOWED OUT SIDEWAYS! - Also, there's an alpha wolf gnawing on the boat's hull, IN THE DEEP OCEAN!. It's a deep ocean alpha wolf! - Also your guns suddenly do 50% less damage because, I dunno, rust monsters in the hold. Also, there is now 7 tornadoes converging on the boat"
  7. The wolves and other creatures are just ridiculous. Who has seen a wolf or any creature just eat at a structure over and over? I know they did this in Ark but those were dinosaurs. You can run toward a building and run around the corner but the wolf will agro on the building and just sit there biting it over and over. It is just ridiculous and annoying. There is nothing good about the way we are battling the wolves and other creatures in Atlas. I do hope they fix this soon.
  8. And try to make it done in manner that doesn't resemble animal abuse. So, for giggles, I figured I would tame a level 42 wolf I spotted near my base. Got it down in health, and bola'd it, and fed it until I had to bola it again. This time, and the next 3 times, it's face was in the terrain, so I don't get the feed option. So I keep moving to find the option, and every time, the wolf kills me. 3 more times having to bola it, and the same thing happens. So I couldn't be bothered anymore, and killed it. Mods can't get here soon enough.
  9. Anyone saying "just level up and kill them" obviously hasn't seen just how bad wolves are. They always spawn in groups of at least 2 and have a tendency of spawning right behind players. Have about 300 Hp at level 1. Attack 3 times a second for about 25 damage on a naked person. Have a larger attack range than any melee weapon. Knock you flying 10-20ft with every hit. Run faster than a player ever can (and for longer). Can attack through walls/ships. Have a massive aggro range and almost never drop aggro. They also roam around a lot because of how their AI works (they chase and kill any animal in their aggro range, so they move around constantly). There is no way to fight them fairly. Saying "just get a pike" is stupid. You'll land one hit by the time they land 6-9 hits and by then you'll be dead anyway. The only way to deal with wolves right now is. Shoot them from a safe place (up a cliff, building, trap them and so on). Hope they attack a bear (a bear can kill 1 wolf, but 2 wolves kill a bear) or an alpha so it kills them. Very unreliable but a blunderbuss can 1 shot kill them if you do it at point blank range and get a decent headshot. Only works vs 1 wolf (and they come in packs). That is it. Outside of this, wolves will just kill you. Your best bet is to just avoid them, but if you can see their health bar you're probably already dead.
  10. they just need to nerf wolf spawn rates, i love my wolves i tamed and it's the only way i can deal with the current wolf army. now alpha wolves.... =/ sigh
  11. Combat Equilibrium are really bad, Stuck on wolf body, kill in 2 or 3 shot with the best armor possible, wolf and Lion pushing are really disturbing.. 42 dmg on a Alpha big sneak on head and befor the patch 62... no the PvE combat need to be reviewed by dev for our fun
  12. I decided to try taming again with the update. I knew the nerf bat. Even with the extra food. Taming is still retarded. Having an animal wake up multiple times while I shoot it full of arrows and then bola repeatedly. Wash, rinse and repeat. Yeah i'm ok with using tools and harvesting metal at this point. Just died while taming a lvl 29 wolf that also died because 2 lions just ganked me while I was trying to feed said knocked out wolf and it woke up at the same time. But not after it got swiped by lion paws.
  13. all levs do 40% less so the wild lev 1 wolf can kill ur lev 25 tamed wolf easily and u too
  14. In the scenario's I wrote about, there is no game element. its just a given, no counterplay, your tame will die and you can't do anything about it. You can't counter an alpha wolf just appearing at your gate and killing your tame when you close the gatedoor, not with anything you suggested nor said. We should just except that because we lack brain juice?I am no fool sir, and I don't want this game to be easier. But your statement is not only completely false, it is also pretty dumb from your end. That would be like saying you don't need freedom of speech, because there is always a way to make yourself heard. Make the game as hard as you want, I will only love it more. But this alpha wolf BS just means I can't use tames, which is half the fun of the game for me.
  15. I would like them removed from the game entirely, without help from OP dino tames in ark, they just do not feel like they belong. Or just enable them on power stone islands, that's whatever, but please for the love of god, let me farm on my island with a chance of fighting back. I just tamed my 2nd Rhino because my first one died to 2 regular wolves yesterday, and the only thing i fear is running into a Alpha wolf / lion that i do not notice in time and the possibility of not having enough stam to get away / behind my gate fast enough as fighting them is not an option. I accidentally tagged a vulture lastnight while i was on my level 70 wolf, and a nearby lvl 235 alpha vulture was like HECK NO! and i had to run for my life. That little bugger did 30 DAMAGE A HIT! and if course they hit the rider not the tame, this was with plate armor on! If it managed to kill me, my tame would of been easily killed before i could get back. That is terrifying, who is having fun with these things in the game? certainly not me. They are fixing how it stayed aggro'd to me for what felt like an eternity which is good, but still.. ugh
  16. The game is about more things than dealing with alphas by not even fighting them. No one can even fight them when stumbled upon, the only way to deal with a predator alpha that is agroed is to get it stuck in something or get it into water and hope it won't go after something to eat in the middle of killing it. A normal wolf or lion can be countered when met deep into island, someone with aim, with prepared guns on hotbar can take them in 1 shoot, higher lvls take sometimes 2 headshots from flintlock. Can't however counter a horde of them that outnumbers the loaded guns (bcs it eliminates the excuse of "learn to aim", there was just no way to deal with them) or can't deal with an alpha that needs like 30-40 flintlock bullets to kill. We don't even talk about slower than player snakes, scorpions or whatever, having a wolf, lion or tiger that is alpha charge in is a bye bye bcs no matter how good the aim is, how good gear got and how good reflex got, there is no way that will kill it in fair fight.

Today wasted 40 flintlock bullets and few blunderbuss shots, got a lvl 255 or whatever alpha wolf once to 80%, once to arround 50% and once to less than 25%... then it ran away even tho it had us standing the same way as before, shooting it to get attention back did not help, it would just look back like escaping horses do and keep running away untill found an animal to eat, then kill everything that could agro there, get 100% hp and charge back even thro a goddamn deep ocean just to go back killing animals when shot, literaly can't do anything when exploring, only arround house where they can get stuck in traps, walls or whatever. They are also an instant death if no water closeby, lvl 43, fur armor, even with equilibrium buff will die in max 3 hits from an alpha and since they have that insane attack speed like every other normal wolf, don't need to do long maths to guess how fast we evaporate.
  18. This looks like a good thread for me to vent my frustrations. Look, I absolutely love Atlas. And I get it, Alphas are supposed to be mean green killing machines that are to be avoided at all costs. Fine. If I die to one I can usually get my materials back. However, this is the second time I've been completely wiped out while safely staying inside my little hut. Sure, a wolf would bite a few times on your building to see if it can get inside, that's realistic. What is NOT realistic, or in any way fun for a game, is an Alpha Wolf being able to chew through your whole house, materials and all, in one single serving. WHY?! There's absolutely nothing I can do. Run away hoping to lure him off your building? Nah, he doesn't care about you now, all he wants is to fill his belly with wood. Even if you manage to get him after you instead, once you're dead or out of reach he simply returns to his two ton wood dinner. Suggestions: Decrease the damage dealt by Alphas towards buildings. Have them disengage their aggro eventually if you're out of reach. When the alpha has killed you, have them run the *bleep* away! I don't think I'll be launching this game again until this has been fixed. Again I can live with bugs and other issues, but I can't play when you've made it impossible.

Well, that's a wonderful idea and I agree completely... just as soon at the 30 odd predators stop showing up whenever I'm out with a tame farming or the dozen odd vultures stop beating on my wolf when I have him devour a corpse for a resource. For now though, this change will make resource gathering pets pretty much useless. My 400 hp wolf will drop to 260.
  20. - Logging off on the bottom floor of a structure still ends in death upon new login. 90% of the time it's from wolves, like this morning, level 1 wolf killed me. Logging out on the second floor seems to be the best route currently to log off. Even though there are walls and ceilings/roof they are somehow attracted to something in the structure and attack. - Animals attacking Cooking Pot, Feed Trough, Preserving bags and storage containers on the first floor. Even though there are walls and ceilings/roof they are somehow attracted to something in the structure and attack. - Taming/Holding Pens animals are glitching past the walls while logged out or out of render. Have lost 3 wolves to this issue. - Please make Bola's stack, even a stack of 10 would help with inventory management. - Durability on Brass Knuckles is way too low. They only last through one fight then have to be repaired. - Using the ship wheel while traversing grids are causing time-outs and crashes. - Equip all folder items on the Taxation Bank caused a Fatal Error: UE4 and game crash. - Animals spawning or being able to get into structures and getting stuck. - Time-Out crashes are still a very large issue. - Vultures need another pass as their health regen is far too fast. - Still seeing a lot of time-outs / crashes when trying to join / login into the game. - In the attached image, a level 7 wolf, killed every single tame we had stored inside a structure. We have tried passive, nuetral, aggressive stances to keep this from happening to no avail. This is the third time now this has happened in regards to tamed animals.
  21. Don't nerf the crap out of PvE servers, because on PvP servers a tamed wolf looks to be OP. Divide PvP and PvE if needs be. Right now, tames are a taxing QoL thing in PvE, there is no PvP going on so, lets start balancing things against server type. Flame arrows to. Who cares about the player damage on a PvE server, there is no PvP on a PvE server so stop nerfing PvE gameplay to balance something that doesn't exist on a PvE server! Wild animals shouldn't spawn in the middle of your base. Yesterday I was building and I saw an alpha rattlesnake fall out of the sky and immediately attack and kill a tamed 24 wolf in an enclosure. There are some serious questions of logic afoot.
  22. Yeah, not tried bear yet. But, a couple of things irk me. I had a level 13 wolf killed by a level 3 croc that kept perma healing... Then I find it quite mind boggling that on an island crawling with rhino's that there's actually no rhino taming food. Question for folks reading this though. I have tried to look it up, but I notice there's three tiers of 'generic saddle'.. Would anyone know what saddles are used to ride what animals? I tried a tier 1 on a wolf but lucked out. Wolfy was killed before I could find enough paste to make a tier 2. Would be great to know for reference.
  23. If you try to kill wild animals, that fight each other, you will be dead FOR SURE. As soon as first animal dies, the second animal, that still attacks you, will start also hitting the first animals corpse. Every time it hits the corpse, it HEALS. A LOT. THEY WILL HEAL FASTER THAN YOU CAN KILL THEM. At this point you are fighting with UNKILLABLE enemy. Even worse: They KEEP HEALING EVERY ATTACK even after the corpse disappears!! If you run far away and are still alive, you can start killing the animal again, because it stops healing every hit, if you change the location far enough. This is completely broken. Basically every time you meet a wolf and a lion, you better run, because you and your tamed animal will almost surely die. Unless you somehow manage to 1. kill one of them 2. put some distance between the first animal kill place, even after the corpse is gone, 3. have enough health left to start killing again fully healed second animal. Please consider this as a priority for next patches, as it is EXTREMELY EASY to lose ANY tamed animal this way. Because it is very hard to get away from wolfs and lions once they target you. and as soon as there are more than one, one of them becomes immortal after the first one dies. At this point taming is almost pointless, because as soon as you walk into 2 different predators or even if a predator joins you, while you kill a chicken, you can die extremely easily against UNKILLABLE enemy. I understand, if the wild animals have time to eat themselves full AFTER they fight, but healing in the middle of fight is just pointless. My proposal is, that if fighting is active, any sort of harvesting is disabled. For wild AND for tamed animals. Because it's extremely stupid, if you hit a wolf and suddenly your bear has 3000 berries. Like when had it time to pick berries WHILE fighting?!
  24. the game in his current state is simply broken, you get sniped from miles from a pistol. Wouldnt be surprise if pop go down fast. Played 70hrs in the first week, now i didnt launch the game a single time in the past 2 days because wolf and crocs are simply broken. 2 pistols shots arent killing a wolf lvl 4 even if am build in guns + reload is fucked and much more.....
  25. Ye and i'm confident the spawn code is garbage and/or trigger some bugs, because i have a house next to the sea in lawless, have a shipyard in front of it, a raft and a sloop. The sloop really need shallow water so is next to the beach right, but still should be out of land range for an aggressive predator. So when i started using npc ai you could see the aggressive mobs chasing birds then agro the boat right, fine it's logical. But now i have a schooner, he is anchored way way up beyond the shipyard, there is no fucking way the lion or whatever chase birds up to there and agro the crew, so the only explanation is that the boat probably trigger a spawn point or something , i was there all this time, nobody lured the damn thing. Also now i put a few level on my ai, 10 in health and 5 in melee and they seam to be able to take down the wolf. But it was only one wolf in a zone with almost no aggressive spawn, and no corcs no snakes, in fact i have to kill all the aggressive guys until a bear spawn as they seam to be on the same list. Problem is poeple killing bear or taming them. Also to the dev, you cna't really put your crew to defend your boat because if they are pulled away from the boat they will float like cretins instead of going back to whatever they were set to do.
