  1. That's what I wrote here for 10 times already! I would also add that some stuff should have proper bonuses. Like better quality of all kind of storage boxes should reduce weight of stuff inside. Better food storage - decrease food decay rate. Better gathering tools - gather better. Etc. p.s. - If devs wanna us grind so much, they could introduce perfixes for armor and tools which improve skill tree stats. Like: "boots of captain" increasing crews ship repair speed or decreasing crew cost - all we have in captaining skill tree. Same for every other skill tree. Like "boots of pirate" or "boots of beast master" or "boots of chief" etc.
  2. Yeah this ain't it chief, these are definitely not the questions people are currently asking.
  3. My chief complaints after returning to give this game another try... 1. I build a house on an island with noone on that entire half of the island., Some guy came and posted pillars all the way around my property so I cant build. NA PVE. It was just a tiny shack on a trade route. After that I built walls. He covered ever square inch of land inside my walls. 2. My schooner turns into a submarine. It gets submerged in water all the way up to the sails. This pushes my pets and workers off and hinders travel. 3. Ship of the Damned are WAY too powerful! I don't even want to travel anymore. The devs took all the fun out of sea content! All I do is build now. Getting old. 3. I came back to my character being deleted somehow. I will never have a chance to get the powerstones because noone plays anymore. That means I'll never be able to do the new underwater content. At this time and place in the game the hydra requirement needs to be removed! 4. The Kraken and other hard requirements that require a lot of people need to be removed. Or they should make the solo version of the game (with cheats) and account wide achievement. 5. The damage wild animals do while attempting to capture them needs a massive nerf! It's ridiculous. 6. I'm shocked to see this dev team has done nothing for player retention. I think a big part of that is guild/company systems and the damage SOTD's do. Hostile players in PVE are not preventable, you'll get them no matter what. But a players ability to drop walls or obstructions inside or next to my base and boats is totally on the dev team. There needs to be an increase in proximity building to lessen griefers from ruining this game.
  4. I don't like current food/vits system because it simply boring. No need to bother. You hungry - eat 5 piece of meat and fish, and 25 piece of berries and vegis. And then forget about it for next half an hour. During long journeys, when vits rate is low, players just eat poop, die and respawn with fine vits rate. That's it for current food system. I would change it totally. 07 - Farming and food. 4 types of food still here. Vitamins system is gone. Instead food buff, debuff and synergy introduced. You don't need to eat all 4 types of food. You can spend your life eating just only meat. But each type of food gives you different buffs for short period of time. And you will just wanna go, search and eat different food. - Meat - provide you all strength buffs. Damage increased. Weight carry increased. Stamina increased. - Fish - all intelligence buffs. Faster XP gaining. Better crafts. - Berries - all resistance. Fortitude bonuses. Torpor resistance. Health increased. - Vegies - all for speed. Movement speed. Attack speed. Reload speed. Gathering speed. If you eat some type of food together (like fish and rosemarie) you might get some extra buff of synergy. If you eat some type of food which are not well together (like salted fish and milk) you get debuff. To learn all good and bad combinations - player will have to experiment, go forums, or maybe buy some books in freeport). If you wanna get most of food bonuses, you have to go Farming and Cooking. Farming provide you 4 more buildings. - Barn - for seeds, fresh greens and flour storage. - Garden bed - for growing. - Greenhouse - for growing plants from different biomes. You need right soil and put wood in to greenhouse stove (it spends wood really gentle). - Windmill - for flour creation (production speed depends on a wind lol). - Basic farming - allows you to grow every plant from entire ATLAS. - Advanced farming - for exotic plants growing (seeds can be bought in freeports). - Expert farming - for wheat or rice growing, which then can turn to flour. Careful gatherer - those 3 skills for: - getting seeds from gathering. - all food this pathfinder gather have increased decay timer. - Slight chance to get some extra from gathering (you can even find rare loses for sale and quests, or even treasure maps). As for cooking. You get: - Basic - for all usual resources recipes. - Exotic - for all exotic recipes. - Bakery - you make all recipes in pastry, and they stays fresh for much longer. - Equilibrium - allows you to create full balanced meal, which gives you equilibrium buff. Required all 4 types of food. - Cook skill - you get all your cooked food stays fresh for longer. - Master cook - all buffs from cooked food lasts longer. - Chief - all buffs from cooked food are stronger. - Fridge - allows you to replace food storage in tavern and supply room in ship to fridge. I'm building my base and I guess it's time to go seamanship and set sails for adventures. to be continued...
  5. I was complaining because i paid for a game with pirates but i only received a pile of trash with bears. I was complaining because i paid for a game based on UE4 but i only got an underperforming heap of bugs that made the game run with <40 fps in FHD on an RTX 2080. (Seriously, HOW THE FUCK DID THEY DO THAT?) I was complaining because i paid for a PVP enabled game but i only got an offline raid simulator where the bigger corp always wins and the bigger ship is always better and literally everything is one dimensional. I had high hopes when i learned that there was a new chief game designer assigned, but everything i have read about the game ever since failed to raise any desire in me to have another look at it again.
  6. I think the problem with the examples you’re citing or are almost any examples you could cite is one of observation bias. Given how gamers are inclined to whinge about anything and everything, you can probably take any change made to the game and find some number of players who vocally whinged about it before it was changed. Correlation is not causation. This is not evidence that the changes were made in reaction to the whinging. Moreover I agree with user1 that in the case of Megas, nothing was actively done to bring about their decline, it was an organic development in reaction to an eroding playerbase overall. To the extent that Megas exist to prey on other players, when their natural prey evaporates, so do they. If lions on the Serengeti hunt zebras into near non existence and the few remaining move to somewhere they won’t be lonely targets, lion prides will also become scarce, but it won’t have been because of anything game wardens did. The chief difference between lions and pvp mega clan members is that the lions won’t cluelessly post to message boards complaining that the Serengeti is lame and the game wardens should all be fired, blindly oblivious that their own behavior was a key factor in the disappearance of zebras and their own downfall. Lions are smarter than that. Note that all of this is independent from whether the game wardens are good at their job.
  7. NOthing Wrong with the current system expect every one wants to be a chief.... Well Too Bad.. I like this system now. No 1 person is claiming a massive area. YOu need a group to claim a big island. Taxes no longer affect the player. There are plenty of islands you can build on that welcome you as long as your not a jerk and try to grief. After 24 hours your house cant be removed and your good to live there forever.

  9. I am probably older than most here. Been playing online games quite seriously since Delta Force 2. That was the first one that really made me want to play it online, against other people. Before that, it was mostly single player games. OK, so in games like that...your typical first person shooter, you have different skills on the battlefield, based on the loadout you chose. The sniper has range, but sucks up close, compared to somebody with an LMG, or SMG. So while you have depth, you aren't actually limited. You want to snipe, you snipe. You want to tear it up in close quarters, you choose a more suitable weapon. You aren't limited. The game I played that was literally the most fun I have ever played, was a game called World War II Online. It was the first, and still is the only, 24/7/365 Persistent Battlefield. Released in June 2001, and still has a hard core base that plays it. In that game, you could spawn a rifleman, on your first day, and still kill the other side's Commander in Chief, with one bullet. Only took you about a month of playing to get up to Sgt, and then you could spawn anything in the spawn list. I played that game seriously, for 10 years. Nothing other than your own skill would determine your success. Not having more hours to play than somebody else, not some ability to skew things in your favor by adjusting your stats to favor combat, then taking the other poor guy by surprise while he is spec'd to get chores done. As a result that game was pure fun. This game, and games like it, tend to cause me more frustration than fun. Like tonight. Me and a friend decided to take a look at a large unofficial server. So we bust our butts to get a fast schooner and set out to find someplace to set up a base. We sailed quite a while and never saw anyone. Saw a couple of times where one other person was on the same server as us. Often, we would be the only ones in. So we put it down to a school/work night, and ORP keeping folks safe. We got a bit careless, as a result, and while it was an unarmed schooner, built for speed, we started gathering some of the materials we were finding. Then, we spotted an island that is one of my favorites. A medium sized one with a good harbor. So I wanted to take a look. As we found a spot to anchor near the harbor, suddenly I see somebody in the chat type "Hello?" So I typed "Hello" back, then noted that the server had ORP, but I was not seeing decay timers. Suddenly, BOOM...and our ship...clearly an unarmed schooner, is getting hit. Yeah, it's "PvP. I just realize that as I play this, I am a very different kind of PvP player, which is why I maintain that this game and ARK suck at PvP. Like I told the guy, I am all for PvP, but shooting an unarmed ship is not my kind of PvP, because there is NO challenge to it. Not like the tense tank battles I had in WWIIOL, where I always chose the side that had it roughest, yet still finished in the middle of the top 25 tankers, every single campaign. Only one of 3 people to hit the top every time, with Brit tanks, and the only person to hit the top 25 with Brit tanks, every single campaign. Could to it with the German tanks too. Didn't bother with the French tanks too often because they were far superior to the Brit tanks, so less challenge. So I see an unarmed schooner, and I will just engage the guy in conversation. But seriously, what the hell is up with people saying Hello, just before they shoot at you? Not the first time this happened. Seems seriously slimy...like you are trying to get the person to let their guard down before you shoot. I understand what my friend meant, when he tried to warn me about these types of games...and the higher than normal concentration of toxic players.
  10. So, I've spent a lot of time in MMOs since my first step into UO in 1997 and there are a lot of things which Grapeshot appear to have ... overlooked? I truly have high hopes for the game and want to see the community bounce back and thrive eventually but some of the key building blocks appear to be lacking here.. Community Volunteer GMs (eg http://www.uoguide.com/Volunteers ), support tickets are literally just being used as bug reports, I understand we are effectively alpha testers and honestly I'm happy to do it! But there are so very many community members who would readily set aside an hour or two of their time to assist others in the community with being stuck or getting removed from their own company etc. You would of course need to administer these volunteers and (why I suspect this isnt being done) track what they do, which would require significant logging and tracking of items/admin commands etc. Events & Story arcs, this goes hand in hand with the Community Volunteer GMs. I dont believe we need quests, but there is so much potential for story arcs and random spawn events, even if it were as simple as a manned ghost ship. The game is great for exploring, but once you've been somewhere, nothing generally changes there.. that has a severely limited lifespan. Network:Client communications, it seems like the client has an awful lot of control over positioning of your character and even your vessel(?) in Atlas, far more than it should, this in past MMOs has resulted in speedhacks, wallhacks, teleporting etc. I hope that you guys employ some of the old MMO chief network engineers with the experience to get that right. Randomness!, things are very static here, an island has the same spawn, a grid has the same whales, the ghost ship sails the same route and the trade ships which appear to be the only thing you could consider to be "random" are absolutely pointless... Embrace the exploration aspect, throw in some randomness so that on your way back from exploring you run across something different to the journey out... Roaming world bosses, random shipwrecks, fish up a sea serpent (or whale? since its already in the game) on occasion, allow a few of the army of the dead minions to roam an island occasionally. Just a couple late night thoughts/suggestions. Looking forward to seeing the game grow into something great.
  11. well said , your story resonates with mine I think the Dev team are all isolated from our kind of play because they focus more on the large groups.. perhaps they need to be forced to play solo for around 100 hours each to see how far they get and the downfalls they encounter playing alone, I think they are far removed from any kind of difficulty's that regular folks encounter. I personally find Solo play rewarding, its way more difficult but I enjoy the freedom to do what I want when I want without needing permission from the Chief. the downside is that I can't ever control a big ship even with NPC's due to the grind , if NPC's could wield weapons that would be helpful, like bow/ arrow or even a spear would be way better than fists.

Edited to remove some items no longer relevant Regarding the actual process of claiming If you place the flag and it immediately says "your claim is being contested" it means that someone is already in the ring of your claim or the ring of the claim you are trying to take. The trick is, you are not always contesting only one flag, you are often contesting multiple, in particular you are often contesting an overlapping sea claim which has a much much larger radius. If you cant see the enemy contestors of a flag but it is immediately saying that your flag is contested its likely the problem is you are contesting the land flag and a sea claim, because of the radius of the sea claim when you ping a flag to show enemy combatants it will not always show the full radius of the sea claim. Very likely there are sleepers within the radius of one of the flags you are contesting. There are plenty of inactive players out there and not all of their land overlaps the structure they are sleeping in. Pay close attention to the border of the claim (the red line) follow it all the way around with your flag up, whilst you are learning, flicking the mouse side to side just a tiny bit will allow you to keep moving forward but check a slightly wider stretch of land, there are often points where claims stop overlapping just a tiny amount and if you aren't moving the flag side to side you wont find it (imagine the action of a metal detector). When you do find a spot you can contest, place it down, locate the flag, check the timer on it, small companies claims are ~4hrs, large companies claims are ~30-45mins, companies with a negative flag count only have a 15 minute contest timer. If the flag says contested, ping the flag, check for where the enemy combatants are, if none are shown when you ping the flag then it is most likely your flag placement is also contesting another overlapping flag which the enemy is sleeping in (sea or land claim). Check the outer limits of the flag which is contestible on the opposite side to where you just placed your flag.. you may find a spot where the land being slept on does not overlap the land you want to claim. -Darksea Dawgs Chief Surveyor
  13. If you place the flag and it immediately says "your claim is being contested" it means that someone is already in the ring of your claim or the ring of the claim you are trying to take. The trick is, you are not always contesting only one flag, you are often contesting multiple, in particular you are often contesting an overlapping sea claim which has a much much larger radius. In the scenario you raise above it is likely that the problem is you are contesting the land flag and a sea claim, because of the radius of the sea claim when you ping a flag to show enemy combatants it will not always show the full radius of the sea claim. I guarantee there are sleepers within the radius of one of the flags you are contesting. How do you get around this? Well, there are plenty of inactive players out there and not all of their land overlaps the structure they are sleeping in. Pay close attention to the border of the claim (the red line) follow it all the way around with your flag up, whilst you are learning, flicking the mouse side to side just a tiny bit will allow you to keep moving forward but check a slightly wider stretch of land, there are often points where claims stop overlapping just a tiny amount and if you aren't moving the flag side to side you wont find it (imagine the action of a metal detector). When you do find a spot you can contest, place it down, locate the flag, check the timer on it, small companies claims are ~4hrs, large companies claims are ~30-45mins, companies with a negative flag count only have a 15 minute contest timer. If the flag says contested, ping the flag, check for where the enemy combatants are, if none are shown when you ping the flag then it is most likely your flag placement is also contesting another overlapping flag which the enemy is sleeping in (sea or land claim). Check the outer limits of the flag which is contestible on the opposite side to where you just placed your flag.. you may find a spot where the land being slept on does not overlap the land you want to claim. -Darksea Dawgs Chief Surveyor

  16. Yar mateys, As a pirate I like to scout the seas looking for booty, both floating in the sea aswell as board ships from scoundrels and scallywags. The only problem is, I can't use grappling hooks to aid in boarding their ship and keeping it in place, as was common in the Age of Sail: "There were two chief techniques of boarding in the Age of Sail. One was to bring the two ships close enough to actually step from or leap from one's own gunwale to the enemy's deck. Grappling hooks and lines assisted in keeping the vessels side by side." The idea is that you can throw grappling hooks to the enemy ship and lock it to your own ship to force the enemy ship in a side-by-side position. The enemy can attack the hooks to detach them, and the bigger the ship, the more grappling hooks are to be used before the ship is succesfully hooked.

  18. Hello! My name is Carlec (ign: Chief Engi. Carlec Sparrow, Company Sparrow, EU PVP Region J14) and I'm currently stuck outside the shore of Bigshall Peninsula with my friend Horoids. The issue started occuring after we fired cannons, whereas shortly after a storm started. We tried moving out of the storm which we thought was "yeah it's fine, we're stuck so I guess it's to be expected", however as soon as the storm stopped we tried moving again. We failed. We have full wind and should be able to move, we tried repairing all damages without any success. Please help. Regards; Carlec.
  19. Dude, when it comes to the SotD, it's like the devs just lost all of their brain cells, developed a hate boner for their community, and got the biggest urge to sink their game all at once. Releasing such a gameplay effecting aspect without even the THOUGHT of balancing is the dumbest fucking thing I've ever experienced. In a few days, the playerbase has already come up with infinitely better ways to use SotD. Someone suggested they should only spawn in Golden Ruin servers and near sunken ships. Easily avoidable and when people do want to fight them, they know exactly where to go. Also, other groups that want to go after treasure will also have to battle for the SotD spoils, creating some epic wars. For the rest of the Atlas? They will have that wonderful experience of setting sail on their new boat to explore new islands without worry of going through a grid and getting targeted by fucking NPC ships in a PvP server. They should be removed COMPLETELY until they are properly balance and their spawn rates are polished, but this? This ain't it, chief.
