I mean, not only is hunting the ghost ship super boring, from what iv'e seen of other people encountering it, it doesn't even seem like there is any carrot at the end of the stick here, just an empty feeling. So this is how our first go at it went, after extensive research into anything ghost ship related. Knowing the route that it takes, not thanks to anything in-game, 3 of us tried looking for it. The first thing that hits you is how annoying fog is, and I would not be surprised if the ship sailed right past us in one of the 5+ total-no-visibility fog situations we encountered in the 3 hour search. Our search started in its spawn grid, and I sailed backwards along its supposed route as best as I could. That is when the second problem hits you, accuracy. I have no idea how closely you need to follow the route without risking the ship being out of render distance, and with all the ship of the damned in the way, I repeatedly found myself way off course, probably another situation where it might have slipped past us. We also have no idea how long it takes for the ship to do a full loop around, but using our estimate of about ~4 hours+ on average to go half the route in our brigantine with 2 fine large handling and 1 BP common large weight, and assuming that the ghost ship is slightly slower, I estimated about a ~5-~6 hour average for it to make half the route. This would mean, that even in the worst case scenario, you should encounter it, at most, after ~4 hours of sailing against its route, yet we did not see it at all, so my only assumption is that we missed on the route, or our scout missed it re-spawning. I will go on and assume it is way more likely we missed it on the route though, as every grid had an average of 2-3 players playing, and most of the time, 2 of them were us, meaning that I don't expect anyone to have taken it out, so our scout at spawn had nothing to miss. Being glued to the screen for 4 hours straight without any chance of rest without the risk of losing any potential progress, along with the fact that you have no idea where the ship might be along this ~8 to ~10 hour route is just incredibly frustrating. Not to mention that after giving up, we now have to start from scratch again, and we have nothing to show for our efforts Our next step is to just have more ships stationed around to help scout it, but we are limited to 3 players, and I can't imagine how boring this would be of an undertaken if you were by yourself. So our strategy will be to use our 2 brigs to sail against the route, while having a third scout vessel at its spawn location. Even though we somehow failed to find the ship in our first attempt, at least our briggs are now on opposite sides of the square frame that the ghost ship sails through, so at most, we would have to waste 4 hours of mindless sailing. 4, very boring, mindless, hours of sailing. Commenting that "you could just do something else while looking for the ship" is not acceptable, as doing so would not only put our entire efforts at risk, but also mean that we will have to spend even more precious time on this quest. And even worse, if we get distracted, and the ship sails past us, there is practically no chance of us finding it in that sessions without spending another ~4+ hours, assuming we can keep our 2 briggs equally distanced while following the route ( I somehow doubt that is going to happen). I have a few suggestions on what I would do to at least make it less tedious. Bear in mind that I don't care about PvP concerns such as ganking players trying to undertake this quest. I remember people in Sea of Thieves messing with other people just to prevent them from accomplishing certain quests, so it does need to be considered, but that is not my job Limit the route to either a 2x2 grid area. Not necessarily the best idea, as I assume the ghost ship will attack players on sight? Add more routes. Pretty simple, have more routes, though I would still make them waaaay shorter than a trek that takes the ghost ship the estimated ~10 hours. Make a 3x3 grid frame around each golden age server where a ghost ship spawns. Makes it a lot more likely that players actually happen to encounter the ghost ship naturally, as golden age servers already draw in combat ships due to higher level SOTD. I would not let them go through the golden age area though, as those are already stressed/saturated enough. Give us in-game tools to find the ghost ship. I guess this would likely be fitting for the tarot card system or another use for the sextant?, but just anything that can lead us to it so we don't feel like we are just wasting time sailing into nothingness. Have more than one ship on the current route? I know the ship is supposed to be special, and having a new ship spawn every in-game day at 06:00, or whenever, would quickly saturate grids along the route with ghost ships, also making it so people would not bother hunting it, but just camping the spawn area. This leads to another suggestion though, just have it spawn in a certain grid and then have it sail around, requiring players to take it out before it de-spawns? Adding a specialized grid for it is obviously not ideal, but at least have an area on the map that clearly shows where it spawns so players can actually find it consistently. Who knows, maybe this might also be a good way to group up players to take on the ship alongside people outside their company? And this is not really as much a suggestion as it is just pure inspiration. Play some Sea of Thieves, that game pretty much nails it when it comes to feed-forward for world events like bosses and similar encounters. Make some kind of in universe environmental effect that indicates something might be going on there. A permanent light fog that follows the ghost ship, and appears in a sizable area around the ship, so that you can see it from far away. Or a light beacon, or sound effect/ambiance. Or as some of the Sea of Thieves encounters happen, they come to you. Obviously not the best idea given how unstable Atlas is, making you lose your ship, 100% guaranteed if you crash while at sea and just about anything is chasing you. The point is just: make some reliable, re-usable tools that can empower us to find these kinds of encounters within the game, without the need for a wiki and reverse engineering of game mechanics, just so we have a shot at actually succeeding. Make the tools a challenge to obtain as well, so we feel accomplished when we do get a hold on them. Just whatever you end up figuring out, don't keep asking us to watch paint dry, it really sucks. UPDATE: Following the suggestion of going to the marker you get by selecting the quest, we tried again, but surprise, nothing... again. This is where the marker has been within a time span of about ~8 hours (after re-checking it the day after we didn't find it the second time) : Which does not even come close to the route it is supposed to be going along as of 23/06/2019: So, I guess the marker is either broken, or just a red herring... great. I guess it was a red flag when we noticed the marker was standing still while approaching it, not to mention how it is so far away from the supposed route.

Turning Gamma up to See better is definitly cheating. Also Turning mesh down is cheating. On PvP Server it is also forbidden to usw the Color Black on ships,as you cant See Which Parts of the enemys ship is damaged the most. But ya all will get banned for sure,as they banned 40k player who abused lanterns And torches to See in the dark or why do you think player base is dropping in numbers? Worst People Are the ones who exploit ships to Sail to Other Islands or use the Chat to communicate. Also Heard if People Who use the eyepatch Skin but irl Dont cover their eye which truly is an exploit if you ask me.

Excellent work on today's patch. You guys clearly show you're listening to your community for feedback especially on QOL. Keep making the game better and we will bring people back in!

So I've been taking a bit of a break and came back to find my galleon completely gone. My company has been upkeeping it for me and they said they checked it a couple days ago and it was still there but I logged in this morning with no sign of it. Logs say there was a ship removed from the company but the logs don't say the name so I can't be certain if that was even my galleon or some other random ship. NA PVE btw. Anyone else have ships randomly disappearing? Edit: I'm now being informed by the rest of my company that 2 other galleons are also missing this morning...

Really need to a find a way so that settlers can use this system as it stand -Crew gold payment and food can now be done via your Company's claim flag. Crew that are on an island or on a fully anchored ship within Settlement range are eligible. Berries are the only food that can be used in the claim flag (there is a greatly extended spoil timer on berries in a claim flag for further QoL). Crew will still seek out payment and food from nearby food larders and payment boxes and if there are none nearby or they are empty, they will take from the claim flag. This is great but it doesn't help settlers in anyway as it is its so much more worth paying for an island upkeep than having to go tower to tower larder to larder just so your base can a have a chance at defending itself. This is a Huuge QOL change that i believe should affect everyone especially settlers since being a settler is about being a smaller company with less resources than everyone else. they should solve this problem soon because as it stand im much better off moving to my own island only problem with that is that i am a very small company and the base and harbor we have now took a really long time to build and i would like to continue living there. my 2 cents on this almost perfect patch update.

Instead of new underwater pets that only can be tamed by level 846534 mega company members i suggest new ships for that... ship game ? Maybe something between raft and sloop, that can be sailed by a single person and is faster than the bigger ships ?

There was a nanny in the Ark s+ mod that would feed and imprint on your baby animals. This would be very helpful here in Atlas because very rarely do I have time to the time to feed them to 10% let alone get all the cuddles. Makes this part of the game ( when I do have time ) very NOT fun. Make the nanny expensive to use or whatever but it sure would help a lot of us.

Don't u see that this here is exactly the problem and why ppl don't agree with you? It's your choice to overload your ships this much. Why should everyone have to suffer because you guys choose to build and load so heavy? You want everyone else to be "flexible" and be fine with the idea that the big griefing companys can get around even faster with their heavy loaded pvp-ships. How about you guys would be "flexible" and adapt your style instead?

Great change! About the Settler-NPCs-Topic: You guys are aware that the Settlers should NOT have their own defensive NPCs but the Island-owner placing their own NPC for the Settlers, right? Because Settler NPCs do NOT attack during peace- time! Which means during peace-time enemies can safely just walk by Settler-NPCs and check out entire defense without problem. They can as example shortly before war-timer starts walk close to bases and place themself in a good angle to take the NPCs out with granades and much more. That's why a good landlord places their own NPCs in front, above, inside, around the Settlers buildings -> those NPCs are hostile 24/7, even in peace-time. Settlers only needs NPCs for ships. Which is btw why it is also beneficial to be a Settler.

Need to look for foundations or pillars from other players in the ocean. Unfortunately, due to PvP exploiters/griefing, the protection radius on structures placed in oceans is something like 8X what it would be on land so you have to search way out to find them sometimes. You may be screwed unless you can demolish them. An easy way to see is to swim out into the ocean and get right down onto the ocean floor and then go into "K" view mode. You can actually get under the ground and see pillars and foundations that way much easier. It might be worthwhile to submit a ticket though as some nice Devs have been known to remove them in some cases.

2 days breeding every 8 hours imprint is not too bad if you compare it to ark. even 3 days is ok. in ark imprint was at 4 hours, not 8, for a very long time until they've changed it. not that you have to breed in atlas... it's rly not attracting to breed in atlas at all because the animals are pretty much worthless except a bear giraffe rhino and elephant and the temperature penaltys sux way... in ark there are more useful animals to use for various situations. but this is atlas ( xd ). we will see what happens... there are def. missing some animals / abilities.

    1. You're making assumptions about things you do not know. I didn't argue this position because I make a habit of changing my gamma. In point of fact, the only time I've ever changed it was yesterday, to illustrate the point. I argued the position not because it's something I do, but because your position isn't supportable by facts or reason, and I wanted to make that clear. Your posts in this discussion have helped make that abundantly clear. 2. If I were changing my gamma, I would do so with a perfectly clear conscience that would give not a moment's notice to the moral high horse you've put yourself upon, for a very simple reason. The fact that the devs, given the choice to include or not include the ability to alter the gamma, chose to give the players the ability to do so tells me all I need to know about whether they consider it acceptable. When this plain and obvious fact has been pointed out to you by other posters, you have answered only with the most absurd and unconvincing argument about player's ability to alter the gamma on their screens anyway. Please don't tell me you actually believe anyone besides yourself buys this half baked rationalization. 3. As far as what the rules do or don't explicitly state, that's exactly the reason why players should and do assume that if it's not clearly prohibited it's acceptable. Your entire understanding of the term cheating has repeatedly been demonstrated to be flawed in this discussion because you conflate a violation of rules, which yes, need to be explicitly stated and clear so that all who are playing can equally understand them, with moral notions of right and wrong. 4. You've conjured this premise out of thin air that the developers, as the creators of the game and enforcer of it's rules (remember why you couldn't ban me yesterday), don't actually decide what is cheating, the players do. I find this notion bizarre and disconnected from reality. Have fun sitting on your high horse declaring the rest of us cheaters, I doubt anyone is paying you any mind because you've had absolutely every chance to make your case in this discussion and I'd be shocked if anyone with half a brain finds anything you've said here convincing. 5. The rules don't need to state everything you can or can't do, they just state what you can't do, that's how rules work, and that's why they are of perfectly readable length. I read them six months ago when I started playing Atlas and I don't recall seeing anything which came remotely close to supporting your position. That's why I asked you to cite the passage you felt supported it, something you've failed completely to do and have instead offered a half baked rationalization instead. At the end of the day, let's be clear what your position is: You're looking down your nose morally at people who use a setting provided by the devs in the options, a word which should clue you in as to their feelings about it's use, to make their gameplay easier. Really?

But. If you increase default minimum speed.. don't you also increase default maximum? It's your choice to have all those extra cannons and cballs etc..it's your choice how you spec your ship levels. Incidentally, I spec my haulers exactly the same as my combat ships. 225% resist 125% stubborness 2-4 pts in accomodation. Maybe 1 extra crew.. just for the round number. 0 in weight.. 300 weight per pt.. hahaha!! no chance am I wasting a pt on that.

Canoe? Kayak? Rafloop... I'd like to see more varients of ship designs.. but I'd also like to see ships nerfed.. so they can't even put cannons anywhere.. without gun ports. Thus removing chasers and kiting from the game. At least in the way it is currently used.

1st or 3rd.. Stand at rear of sheep. Crouch. Deploy scissors and shear by holding mouse btn down or controller key btn whatever it is. You'll see bits of hair effect from sheep and the change onscreen of the hairless sheep.. from shaggy sheep. There are several bugs with sheep atm, most especially collision issues near them. Which make shearing particularly annoying. Alternatively.. kill the sheep and use axe to shear it.
  21. 1 point
If anything they'll just nerf everything to the point where noone is playing, then they'll blame new releases etc for their own failure to see what everyone else see's as obvious. But that doesn't mean sailing speed needs to be increased. 19 knots is plenty for me. What I want is an auto pilot.. that reads a plotted course between map markers. Then I can sit and use my fishing net.
  22. 1 point
At least in PVP, but probably in PVE too, the problem with fast travel, increased speed and those kind of things is that it increases power projection. As annoying as long trips are, I'd be careful with that because the cure could be worse than the disease. I don't know if it would be possible but id love if they add a system to calculate the best route for trips forecasting wind and weather, maybe combining it with the sextant compass, and giving you an aproximate arrival time.

If by these systems you mean vitamins AND cooking, then awesome. I think the cooking system in this game has significant potential, but it needs a lot of love in the form of more depth and raison d'etre. Right now it seems many players ignore it because they consider it not worth the investment of time and skill points.

I agree that we Need More Ship but new creatures are cool too. Yet i would like the seahorse to be a better dhingy kinda there Needs to be 2 ships between the gally And Brig i think. I also really miss larger Gates for ships And Gates that replace planks to create a side dope for tames,as this is the biggest market in atlas. Would also love to See Schoners with fishing nets that can farm Fish And if Cooking gets more Important add New Fish for biomes to create a proper market for food.

    A) You’re making a false equivalency argument by equating cheating to morality. Cheating is not inherently a question of morality as illustrated by the question of penalties in sports. You may not be a sports fan, but doubtless you are aware that sports exist and that they have rules and sometimes in the course of play players commit infractions. These infractions are not “wrong” in a moral sense any more than changing your gamma in a game that makes it an options setting is. B) You’re declaring things to be common sense from a moral perspective but even morality isn’t a matter of common sense but belief that is personal. Witness the legions of people who hold strongly differing moral beliefs on any number of issues like abortion, euthanasia, capital punishment or bbq sauce. If morality were merely a matter of common sense, then nearly everyone would agree on these things but they don’t. C) You are entirely free to believe that changing gamma in a game is cheating, or even that to do so is morally wrong. I would argue that your understanding of cheating vs unfair leaves something to be desired in this instance but that’s my own opinion. What you can’t do is enforce your belief on others and I can prove it. I’ve just changed the gamma in my settings. Ban me.

I have no idea who Lebron is.. nor care. Nor do I watch people bouncing a ball around.. unless I want to fall asleep. We all.. decide the rules. The trick is to try to limit the rules we make. I decide if I think you're cheating.. you don't need to prove you're not.. but if you feel you are not, you can argue your reasoning. In this case your argument is: The devs haven't said it isn't. Therefore, it is ok to use gamma. That does not equate to the devs saying it is or isn't okay. It doesn't matter if the rules say it is or isn't. It's called common sense. Something either is or isn't right or wrong. You don't need other people to tell you what is or isn't right or wrong. You know it yourself. Using gamma to bypass ingame environment to make life easier for yourself. Is Cheating. There is NO argument.
  33. 1 point
No one has asserted that it is, but what I am asserting is that if it is not specifically forbidden it is not cheating. The problem with what you are suggesting is the notion the players get to determine what is cheating. Sorry but I disagree. Lebron James does not get to alter or interpret the rules of basketball, nor does the NBA players association as a group.
  34. 1 point
How exactly have I insulted you? By not agreeing with you? Ignore all you want, but the basis of our disagreement is me asking you to cite the portion of the official rules which supports your position, you refusing to do so while talking in circles in a manner which ignores this simple central request to support your argument, and then declaring that the devs don’t get to define cheating in their own game, the players do. Okay. Whatever.
  35. 1 point
  36. 1 point
The reason we keep going in circles is because you claim your position is based on your reading of the rules. I’ve asked you thrice now to reference the specific passage which supports the notion that changing gamma is cheating. You’ve just said you’ve already done so, yet I just reviewed every post you’ve made to the thread and Insee no such citation of a specific passage. If I missed it, please repost it, otherwise my statements speak for themselves.
  37. 1 point
As I said in my first post, please cite for me the passage in the Terms of Service or Code of Conduct that support your position that changing of gamma is cheating. The widely held default assumption in gaming is if you can do it in the game, it’s fine unless developers or gm’s declare it otherwise. Given that changing gamma is actually explicitly included in the options setting, common sense would suggest the devs consider it allowable unless explicitly stated otherwise. Further, you state that I’m of the position other people don’t get to have an opinion when this directly contradicted by my own statements “ you are of course free to your own opinion.” so this statement is not supported by the facts. You also have decided to imply that I insult those I disagree with and employ name calling. This is also not supported by the facts as those familiar with my posting history are aware.

  42. 1 point
Please cite for me the passage of the game’s terms of service or code of conduct which forbids altering of gamma settings or could reasonably be construed as doing so. If not, then we aren’t talking about the developers definition of cheating, we are talking about yours. Since we’re not talking about your game, players can and should feel free to agree with or ignore your arbitrary declaration that such behavior is cheating at their own discretion, since arbitrary imposition of your belief on others is something we frown upon in free societies.

I think you are ignoring the fact that you have to go where the wind takes you, not I want to go there because I want to. Even if there is no wind or its in the wrong direction. Second there are times when you can do other things besides "just get there." Three hours away and three hours back to do a trip sounds like bad planning, maybe decide what you really need and where you need to go to get it. Maybe they will come up with a trade wind or something, but it will just get exploited by others and it will be used against you. Then it will be a mega OP thread or some other rant to turn the tables in your direction again. No wind would actually be a terrible thing to remove as it will take the planning/strategy completely out of sailing. Frustrating as it can be it can make for interesting situations with enemies, storms etc. Its not a motorboat/speedboat game.

When you open the mini map and you are in someone else’s claim area, the little red x that shows your position on the minimap is very close to the red color of the claim area. This makes it very difficult to see where you are on the mini map. if we could have the color of the red x changed, maybe simply black will be enough, this would improve the visibility.

At this current time of playing it's really hard to find an area where we are able to anchor our ship, our crew has the 2nd biggest ship and we were not in that deep of water, and it still wouldn't let us anchor. Please make the range of the anchor a lot more then it is right now, it's actually a joke trying to anchor up the big ships

I don't care if you cheat. You're only ultimately cheating yourself, by cheating. I only use gamma, ie to cheat, when absolutely necessary, ie if i'm stuck in a cave or underwater in a wreck or some similar game breaking reason. You cheat, all the time, when it gets dark, because you won't make a torch or a lantern.. Bit of a difference. But as I said.. I find it funny that you actually believe you aren't cheating. That's really the end all of this conversation. Trying to dress up your argument and reasoning, doesn't escape the fact.. that you are. Ps If the rules stated every single thing you could or couldn't do.. you'd spend more time reading them than you ever did cheating in atlas.
