  1. Man, they are down to an average of 968 players. That is one of the worst numbers I have ever seen in gaming. That small number is also spread throughout 3 big clusters and Unofficials. I gotta make sure to ask the guys on official servers what it is like to play an online single player game lmao we are close to averaging only .5 player per server. Like not even I full person. Just a half a person lol
  2. I finally gave up ark after 20k+ hours played. Remembered that I did enjoy this back in 2018 and decided to give it another go. I was actually excited to see the land claim towers or going back to the original system somewhat. I stopped playing when they introduced the whole island claiming and if you didn't buy an island then you were subject to losing your stuff if the island owner decided they didn't want you there. Then seeing the whole automated systems that take some of the grunt work out. Boy was I surprised that only a chosen few will ever be able to put down any of the farmhouses/warehouses. Not a fan of this gold cost for ships. Had it not been a 4x Gold. I woulda uninstalled the game right away with the 5k cost for a schooner. I mean traveling grids on a sloop.......I've spent 5 days looking for land and countless hours farming the resources to make said farmhouses to be sorely disappointed. Maybe PVP is different but i'm a PVE player. I actually like hunting for the different resources etc. Finally find a little landing strip to make a newbie base. At least if I die I have a respawn point. I don't understand why the warehouses and stuff aren't tied to a company. Furthermore. Now that i've built and can't place. Its a ton of wasted resources. Everyone should be able to enjoy them not just 1 or 2 people per island. I see they still have some settlements but 98% of them say no settlers.. I mean what's the point. Might as well make the entire map claim tower/flag and limit how many a company can have. Lawless lands are the only active grids. I was actually at the point of completely uninstalling the game again and gave it till the end of the night to find a place to live. The only redeeming thing i've seen is that at least the discovery points are a little more manageable then trying to find needles in a haystack. So after some massive confusion about the whole shipyard thing. Ok so i built an advanced unknowningly and couldn't figure out why brig wasn't in the list... Why do we need 2 different large shipyards? Just more giant crap to clutter up the map. Then reading about how useless the new ships are....One would think after 3+ years the state of the game would be a bit better. But honestly i'm not sure i'll invest another 2300 hours in like I did when it first came out. Was hoping this would keep me entertained through my husbands deployment but looks like it'll be like my sloops...all at the bottom of the sea. /end rant from a returning player.
  3. Some friends of mine bought this game for me on 2-25-20. I logged in to their dedicated server, selected Blackwood Map, and the three of us played together for a few hours. The highlight of the night was I leveled quite a bit and was able to tame me a monkey. At the end of the session, I walked into their house and logged out for the night. After work the next day, I go to log in and it takes me straight to the Character Creation screen. Confused, I restart everything and retry again. Same issue. So of course I come here and try to find some topics on this. So I search for "Character Missing" in forums and some other things and see this was kinda a big thing in Jan, 2019 I think. But I am not finding much info on it recently. I did see a few post about missing characters, but really has no responses and are no help. I did read a few things to do but I am not sure since I am new and haven't been following this game. 1) I seen a few post that warns you should not create a new character. It overwrites the previous character. Just wait it out and it will come back. So I didn't create a new toon last night and didnt get to play. Gonna see if I can log in when I get home today after work. 2) I seen a post by Dollie(I guess a mod) that says go ahead and create a new character. I dont mind this, I only have a few hours into that character anyways. But not sure I want to play 300 hours then lose a toon in the future. Only to have to grind again. 3) I also ran a "Verify Files" from Steam, and every time I run it, it says "1 file was in error and it replaces it". But this is every time I run it. I think I ran it 4 or 5 times last night and it kept saying it has one file that will be reacquired. At this point I am not sure what to do. Make a new character? Uninstall and download again? Wait it out? Any help from some veterans around here that can give me an idea of what I should do would be much appreciated. And If I have missed a big post on all of this, I am sorry. P.S. I asked my friends in game If I was still part of the Company and if my monkey was still there that I tamed before I logged off. I was still in the Company, and my monkey was still there. P.S.S. Only thing that was even slightly weird was when I first logged into the game, I was already dead. I assume this happened because first time loading games, it takes a little bit. And I figured I was mauled by a tiger waiting for everything to load up. I respawned and had fun the rest of the night. Network: Dedicated Server, PC, Nitrado Grid: I think Blackwood don't have grids? Description of issue: Character Missing after first play. Any screenshots or video demonstrating the bug: None, it was my first day. Repro steps if available/applicable: N/A CCC (if location specific, please include the CCC with your report): I do not know this.
  4. Wow! This might be the best/politically correct comment on the devs I have ever seen. Kudos for you man. true, doesn’t matter if you like her or not. She isn’t good for you regardless.
  5. First of all I would like to say that I had a lot of fun with Atlas, but now it's just frustrating. Taming: Since the Mega Update I often have problems with the game closing or crashing suddenly. I tried to tame a tiger on Lvl 23 and suddenly the game crashed. Me and my bear that I tamed with level 29 at the end of the world were dead. After that I tried to get a new bear to compensate the loss. Of course the game crashed again, but a member of our alliance was able to save my second bear this time. Since then I have avoided turning my bears on passiv while taming which led to many frustrating situations. Lvl 30 Giraffe - The giraffe was killed by one of my tigers because it turned on the ground (glitching) and suddenly hit in my direction. Because the giraffe was Lvl 30, I wanted to be sure that nothing would happen it. That's why I pressed T before taming and set my bear and the tiger to passive. Unfortunately this was not noticed by the game. Lvl 29 Tiger - Accidentally killed, because the countdown for the Bolas in the Hotbar was still running and I made a left click to throw them. My fault, but why Bolas need to have a cooldown on a PvE server? Lvl 28 Tiger - I tried to place some signs around the tiger to save my bear in case my game is crashing. Unfortunately I could not build the last sign, although it was displayed in blue. I couldn't abort it for a few seconds either. The tiger freed himself and my bear killed him because he was still neutral at this time. Lvl 29 Elephant - A spider was attacking and my bear killed the elephant because the spider was too close to the elephant. Lvl 26 Tiger - This time I wanted to make sure that my bear didn't kill the tiger so I set him to passive. The game just closed this time and when I was back in-game, the bear and I were dead. These are just a few examples that happened to me in the last 3 days. Why is there no status where the animals defend themselves when they are attacked but do not actively attack as long as they get damage themselves? Taming something alone is just frustrating when I have to decide if I want to lose my own animal if the game crashes again or if I want to risk killing the wild animal accidentally. Glitching: What is also quite annoying is that you often get stuck in trees, rocks, other animals or dead bodies because the hit boxes do not match the graphic model. This often causes you to get stuck or teleport back. I have also seen animals that are stuck in the water several times since the Mega Update. Sometimes these animals seem not to be able to use swimming animation anymore (look at this gif). I'm sorry if there are any mistakes in this text, but English is not my native language. I am so frustrated about the current state of Atlas that I had to write this text.
  6. Hey, i will put some simple suggestion here to increase server performance and allow to finish ships and bases with more useable details. I think these should go into Phase 1 or soon after. So we would need the following build parts added to the game (this can be expanded as seen fit, since buildparts are stored in the local client and should not effect server performance, depending on potential engine limitations): Floor and walls for ships and bases with the following sizes (tiles) -> 2x2, 3x3, 4x4, 1x2, 1x3, 1x4 When Building for example a 8x8 ceiling or deck, it doesnt make sense to fill it with 64 single tiles, that all have their own collision, health, links, weight, color and so on when you could do the same with 4 (4x4) tiles that would greatly reduce the server lag generated buy ships and bases in general. Sails with climbable rigging, and ladder parts with the size -> 1x2, 1x3, 1x4 This will remove the need to put ladders on sails and reduce the needed parts for ladders on the ship. Again saving alot of parts for building a ship. Foundations with sizes -> 2x2, 3x3, 4x4, 1x2, 1x3, 1x4 Foundations with more height (best scaleable when placing) -> from 1 to 20 This will greatly reduce the parts needed to build the foundation of your buildings and ports saving alot of items to reduce server load generated by land bases. There is no need for new visuals just merge the smaller part into bigger blocks so they will fit smoothly with the smaller ones. Other usefull changes: Smaller crafting stations that prevent some unnecessary large buildings where one doesnt want to build one. Clientside visuals that fill the gap between a ships hull and a placed wall. Larger XL sails for the galleon. It does not only look better having three sails of appropriate size, it will also reduce server load needed for calculating speed, position and stuff compared to having six sails instead. -> This will allow to build the same ships with fewer parts so we can complete them and not just build empty hulls to meet the item limit. In the future it allows us to put more interactive objects and stuff on ships to allow building them into a mobile base to live on the sea and offer more gameplay, rp and social value. -> Same for land bases there often goes an incredible amount of parts into building foundations and basic walls and ceilings that can be greatly reduced. So there is more room for building more fancy stuff and keeping server lag low at the same time. -> With the decreased server load it should be easier to add more details to ships like more sail types and sail locations like fore and aft sails. Cabin details like windows, balconies, interactive objects to outfit your ship. Damage visuals for planks and other stuff that helps to locate where you need to repair and judge the condition of your ship in an intuitive way. Or a more realistic way of handling the water line and sinking of ships. And many more things like seen among the other suggestions. Happy sailing, arrrrr!
  7. Its you! Hah, nah im just kidding. But remember devs are just that, developers. They get specs from management and just write the code to match the specs given to them. I honestly think its management getting pressure from upper mangement on what to add, and i think that that upper management is most likely from ark. Hence this stuff being added is ark type stuff. If i had to guess there is most likely a fairly lage disconnect between atlas management and their upper management and i base that guess on recent patch content. Honestly the patch content really doesnt make much sense or match the roadmap given 6 months ago. I am or was a developer years ago but now i am in management and i have seen this before with the disconnects like this and unfortunately when this happens projects like this get cancelled after so long. Sure you can say covid put the screws to development teams but its no longer a valid argument due to all the resorces availble at you disposal to tele work and colaborate on your project i.e. teams, skype all that is available. Year and a half ago my cousin and I played this, pve only, and we had a blast. Sure it got boring saiiling just around for different resources but we had a good time sailg and doing silly crap while we were sailing then it just went downhill fast when we had boneheads blocking our port and stuff like that but i assume they were bored too so they just decided to grief. This can be a really good game along side ark but i think they need to get their management together and really think what they want to do and get everybody on the same page. Some pre-built ships and flower pots are not going to cut it. Folks will come back if people start talking about it in a positive light, but the way things are now people will come to this website and see the craptasticc patch notes and just keep playing whatever they are currently playing and not give it a second thought.

Started to play Blackwood PVE with one other person on a Nitrado server I purchased, my question is about the beds, if I die I can’t spawn onto a bed we placed in our base, I see it on the map but says it is no longer in a claimed area, I know how to place a flag but will that mean everywhere I wish to place a bed I have to claim the area? And on a ship? I played via Xbox and never had this issue, place a bed and then you could spawn to it. I seen old post saying the beds were broken but that was over a year ago.
  10. I can't tell for sure if the OP is specifically talking about the ghost ship that is rarely seen or just the normal ships of the damned. The ships of the damned are easy enough to avoid and see, even on a raft (well most of the time). I see no problem with them attacking an unarmed ship. Now the ghost ship appears out of nowhere and is harder to avoid when it appears. Would be nice if it only attacked when attacked. I've only seen it I think twice, but if I recall correctly, it doesn't just spin in circles like the ships of the damned. It moves fairly fast in one direction and if you avoid it, it then just disappears in the distance.

I'm sure there are lot's of reports for spawns of maps being bugged a lot of the time and sunken treasure ships being meshed into the ground, so I don't understand why there hasn't even been attempts to fix these issues that are so frustrating. The time it takes to sail for a decent map and you can't even do them... I also understand sunken treasure ships are fairly new compared to the maps mechanic so maybe that will take time to fix as well. Suggestion for fixing sunken ships would be instead of needing to loot the chest, let us just loot the whole ship. Get in range of the ship, press E and loot it for credit. It doesn't let us explore the ship itself but seen one seen them all really, I rather be able to get it without wasting my time due to a bug. Suggestion for fixing maps would be to redo the map spawns honestly, have them spawn on shorelines of islands which I sure would take longer but it sure would help fix spawns going into cliffs. These maps on mountains are 100% a waste of your time. Also maybe detect if a player base is built around the map it can try to spawn some yards away from it. Hopefully these reports come of something, devs don't say much these days regarding coming fixes or whatever so its kinda ruins the morale of trying to hold out for the game and keeping the crew together.   12. I've been playing Atlas since its launch, and have only ever personally seen Masterwork maps, at a max of about 31. I have seen images, and heard rumors of legendary maps. Can you confirm whether they exist or are at all possible to find in the current game state?
  13. Since the new map I'm having trouble finding a few things: diamond, shale oil, mineral oil, & naphtha. I don't see these on any of the resource maps I've used before. Has anyone seen these? Thanks!
  14. On all the other games, like ARK, you run a dedicated server or rent one that is hosted. You have both of those options for Atlas. The problem is, you would need a very large number of servers to duplicate the 225 girds (each is a server). So your choice is run a custom set of maps with a small number of grids or use the Blackwood map. I've seen as many as 49 grids configured for a private server. I've also played where they had just four. The Blackwood map is maybe the size of 3 grids. On all other games, like ARK, the non-dedicated sucks the same way that you've seen it suck for Atlas. The PvE online that you've tried is the official servers. There are plenty of private servers, have you tried one of those?
  15. Are you playing on Blackwood single player? Every youtube video I've seen where they play single player it crashes. Happens every time to me. I've seen lots of posts about it too. You are the first to say it isn't crashing. Many people use the Blackwood map for single player play, because it is big enough to get the flavor of Atlas, but not the huge over 100 grid server that takes up so much time traveling all over those maps all by yourself. People also use it for non-dedicated, since you can do that when you don't have to travel across grid borders. I have not tried non-dedicate yet, possibly other maps would work with it, not sure, but Blackwood should be a good choice. I didn't mention single player, I just assumed if someone is playing Blackwood, they are playing single player.
  16. I keep seeing this idea proposed of having a server with both PvP and PvE. I assume you are suggesting they add a new type of official server with this. Although I fail to see how PvP and PvE on one server isn't just a PvP server. All PvP players engage in PvE activities. When they make alliances and establish a safe area, maybe a whole island or grid of the server, they are essentially just playing PvE only in that area. So what game has no separate PvE and PvP servers? Never seen this. Does it actually work? If it is such a good idea, where are the great examples of it? Personally I only play PvP on games where you don't lose your ship/base (your main location where you log in / log off). I think if Atlas ever switched to only having this "combined" (PvP only) mode, they would lose over half the player base instantly (almost all of the PvE players). So what would be the point? PvE players aren't fodder for the PvP players if that is what you are thinking. They aren't slaves to them either. They aren't added content to keep the PvP players interested. I've seen games with just PvP, but they are not sandbox style games. You don't play them for months collecting tames and building a huge base. One I played quite a long time ago was I think called Battlestar Gallactica. You would never lose your ship if you lost a battle, you just got moved back to the starting location. You never really lost anything, but you could gain stuff if you won. ARK is nothing like that and a PvE player would never want to play it in PvP mode. Some of your ideas make sense for a PvP server. You might get more people to play PvP mode if the game had factions. Those players that play PvP in most games, but not Atlas might play.
  17. I loved Atlas from the minute I saw it. I thought it would end up being a great one. Its really too bad they didn't do something with it. The whole it's EA so don't expect progress has become a meme. I don't know anything about Grapeshot but I suspect its only 5 or 6 people with little to no budget. Someone wasted a good core of a game on a team too small for the task. I've also been left at every turn wondering why they use their limited resources on the things they do (like those prebuilt ships). That's really too bad. I've never seen a game come back from this kind of start and I don't expect this one will either. Now you have a wave of new MMOs coming on line now or over the next few years. NW, soon Ashes, I expect Star Citizen will have some kind of soft launch in 2 years. And a few others. It's gonna be a tough market. Such a shame.
  18. Have you heard or seen anything great from the developers lately? I have the impression that they have given up the game, after they have ripped off with the Xbox players. I have my doubts that the game is still something. The development is somehow quiet and I see nothing on the horizon, what could make it better. Ark also had his problems, but there was a roadmap and the game progressed in small steps forward. For at least half a year Atlas has not seen any appreciable development.
  19. A lot of us have suggested this in the past. I will quit the game the day this is put in. The most over used and broken idea ever heard in dead MMOs is to force PVEers to PVP. They will quit the game. This game has some of the worst, laggy, bugged, janky LOLz PVP I have ever seen. You want to force PVEers into that? Or, yeah, force then to have less, when most are already just logging on to reset timers. A better idea would be to have the PVE areas have most or all of the resource, where PVPers would go to refit, repair and stock up. And the PVP areas have higher gold. Now you have an economy and two areas working in support of each other. I had high hopes for Atlas, no longer. Two years and the game has had little progress and still runs terrible (yes I have a high end gaming rig). I only log now to feed and reset times. Another wipe and I have no reason to ever return. Besides, I'm loving the New World beta test.
  20. What you highlight is not that raiding is bad. What is bad is the wipe. I've never seen anyone quit if a raid happened, and somebody took a small amount of stuff from you. What you highlight is that this game could be greater than ARK, or any other game, but they have to get away from the whole mentality of base raiding, and wiping. They need to find a way to turn it into a pirate game, not a land conquest game. I have given many suggestions to change the game. Most they have ignored. It would require a complete rethink of the game. The problem is that they seem to think that basing a game around the acquisition of stuff is fun for people. In other words, they think people find it fun to accumulate a lot of stuff, and get to the point that you are powerful, only to lose it all, and now you have to start over. They don't seem to understand that when it takes you weeks and months to accumulate it, this isn't like striking out in baseball. Of course in baseball, you are going to strike out, and come back to the plate, over and over, to take your next at-bat. Games like this are different. You spend months building up, and acquiring things such as maps, BPs, ships, quality shipyards, bases, breeding tames, etc... You lose it in one day, and now you are looking at starting over, knowing that those around you are miles ahead of you...months ahead of you, and it takes the wind out of your sails. Many people quit. I've seen people in our company, this season, quit after their ship was sunk, while they were offline. Just their ship. This is why I have argued that the game should get completely away from land defense, and make it all about ship combat, and exploration. Wouldn't it be cool if we had treasure maps that tell us only the island it is on, and we have to explore the island, to find the treasure, and AotD? Make the pillar much shorter range so you have to get closer to it? And wouldn't it be better to do more cargo hauling, and pirating of those cargo haulers? Getting better building components could be about upkeep. Why not make buildings slowly decay, like ships do at sea? And make ships slowly decay in port, like 100 times slower than at sea, so you still need to do upkeep once in a while, before going to sea. Make Freeports more of a hub of activity. Am I the only one who thinks that it is odd that the place where new people pop in, for their first experience in the game, is almost devoid of life? Shouldn't it be just the opposite? Wouldn't this make it even better for recruiting, and thus better for new solo players? Wouldn't removing the whole wipe thing, make the game suddenly more optimal for solo players, and small companies? Wouldn't people be able to put more time into sailing, and exploring the map, if they don't have to worry about a wipe? This way, they could possibly remove the whole raid window, and you would have to always be on the lookout, on land. You could still be killed. I do know that things would not be perfect. Would they ever, so long as you have players who will insist on breaking the game, just because they can? But imagine how far along we would be had they went this route from the beginning? This would of course, cause a need for a whole new way of base building...new mechanics. You would need to limit the size of a company's structure count. You would need to bring back those land claim flags, but only allow the company to have 1, and 1 sea claim for a port. Ships anchored in the sea claim can't be damaged. Any structure built outside of the land claim or sea claim, will decay in 24 hours. So no pillar spamming, and no griefing other people with structures. Make it a TOS to use structures to block access. Make no build zones around the resources that are rare on the island. Make it a TOS to block them. No fencing them in, or limiting other's access to them, since they can't destroy your structures. Make a 72 hour cool down for building on an island when you build anything there, outside of your claim. In other words, you go to another island, and you build a taming pen. You can't do so again for 72 hours, after the structure decays, which would be 24 hours. Or, if you take it down yourself, that starts the time. But no other structures can be on the island, outside of your claim. This way, if somebody does use a structure in a bad way, to grief or harass, they can't just keep rebuilding it every day. You get the point. Yes things would need to be worked out, but they should go this route, even as an option, like how they tried colonies, and empires, and people made it clear they wanted colonies. If they created a ship vs ship server...call it the dangerous seas server, or something like that...I'm pretty sure that most people would choose that mode. Now, they could do like a guy did with his private ARK server. Allow mutually agreed war. Two companies decide that they want to battle it out for control of an area...they are tired of the other company being in their area...so they agree to battle it out. A war window is opened, when they mutually agree to do so. Maybe options could be put in place to allow for them to agree on a start time, and a duration. When this happens, the members of these two companies, can cause damage to the structures of the other. So the winner will get to stay in the area, and the lose will need to move on. They could even make it such that if you are wiped, you can not settle in that tile, the surrounding tiles, the next ring of tiles, and the ring around that group. So, you would need to move a minimum of 4 tiles away. Trade would become more prolific. You would have several smaller companies on an island, and one guy might be aggressive about mining the metal. So he puts a lot of it in his store, and people can buy it. So now you load up ships with the cargo containers, and take them to a port. You offload it onto a dock, and its contents can now be traded for gold. The more rare the resource, the more you can charge for it. resources on that island...you won't pay as much for. Resources from 6 or 7 tiles away...now you are willing to pay more gold.
  21. Todays update did elevate the linux server version to build 7031483, but still showing version v524.11, the Client is now at v527.3 (Rev. 124054). Resulting in still not being able to see the Linux server in the ingame server list, or being able to connect to it via steam server list. And FYI: i'm also testing a 2x2 Grid in a Kubernetes cluster, server is running and seen by steam... only issue is -> see above...
  22. I've seen every wipe since the beginning. I'm not feeling like putting up with another. To me the worse things about Atlas are not the servers or bugs, it's the wipes. I could swear they said long ago, no more wipes, then, only if really needed. Then it turned to a regular event. I don't know why I have not wiped my hands of this long ago.
  23. Just as the topic says. The rope bed is a bit old speaking as a 1st week player. Can we get a captains double bed for ships and land? The ability to make an actual Pier would be great. I've seen a lot of creativity on Lawless servers for people making do with what's available. Even some variation on storage containers would be great. I've seen desks and nightstands and even wardrobe closets and mods for single player. I do think it's about time that devs make their own to add even more playability to the game. I'm sure their ideas for new enemies in the future but that's another suggestion as well. I've had to start over three times and all the available items now or just becoming a bit generic. Adding more ship classes and whole skins might add even more variation. Even after 3 wipes I still I think this is a good game that could be even greater.
  24. Sounds like pvp to me. The whole world is awesome. Come to the darkside(pve). i really don’t like the word potential. Every single game/life/tree/anything has potential. That is a very bad word to use as far as games go because every single game has potential. Please don’t act like that word has any kind of impact on what the game is. That would be sad. this game is awesome. It is time to deal with that fact. I won’t even bother with the whole EA BS. It’s awesome. Is this your genre or is it not? does it have bugs? So what? If you have left 3 or more times that already speaks volumes. Let me guess you are one of the “loyal” players right? Lol How are you people not having fun with this game? I don’t care if you are day 1(entitled) or not. Live it up, plenty of things to experience. Just in case you think you have experienced everything they have added a lot of new islands. I have been to many grids and have seen the copy and paste islands but I have also seen the new and very awesome islands. boo hoo, you think new islands aren’t enough. Time to deal with the entitlement really. Pc players right now are complaining about nothing new being added. A new life was added to the game. People are actually playing it. Maybe it’s time to be thankful and try to enjoy a good game. Maybe?
  25. Havent seen the weight issue yet, but I've seen issues with crew. Had a full crew on a schooner and a wild penguin landed and it started sinking. Wild creatures should NOT count as crew. Unfortunately I don't know how to counter the weight thing, other than removing the option to be able to board anyone ships. I believe that was a thing at one time.
