  1. Ah ok. Very cool. Get a supply and I am good then. I gotta tell you guys. I am really waiting for this whole exploring . I am excited about it. With the amount of grinding we have to accomplish just to get the “parking lot” and “Taj Mahal” done before the release of atlas, I am a little stressed out so just mindless sailing might be good for awhile. on the off chance anyone has console and Conan you can come see the builds. If you don’t I can always take screenshots. i swear between the 2 we are talking at least 20 million stone and 30 million metal. Smh. We always get props but sometimes we just say “yeah they were right when they said just kill yourself now when I said what I would build”
  2. I'm not excited about it. Most of it's already in the game with the treasure map mechanic, and unless they change the way it works it will only provide content for a couple weeks, and then you'd never see them again. Look at adding (pve) content this way: 1. Completely simple/unsophisticated approach. (Game Design 101) - Add more NPCs to kill 2. Slightly more sophisticated - Write quests involving killing NPCs 3. More sophisticated, yet still very basic - Write more complicated quests involving new geography, new animals to tame and more NPCs to kill But all of those approaches miss the point. Pve players want conflict and drama just as much as pvp players do, they just don't want it to involve killing other players and destroying their stuff. So what's left? How do you "win" pve and become king of the hill? Economics, crafting, artistry, and personality. Real additions to pve give the players an official structure to compete in those areas in the game. This would require deep and exclusive crafting skill trees, a real economic system with benefits to gaining gold, a system to encourage politics and fame, and better outlets for people's artistry in building, music, and changing the landscape. The best game design for pve goes above Game Design 101 and recognizes that pve players do want to compete against each other in a game. I swear, there are many game designers who think pve players enjoy killing 40 rats for some meaningless gain and then sit around pretending to serve each other tea. The funny thing is that we talk about this stuff as pve content, but this is also content that makes it a richer game on the pvp side as well. All these pvp/pve argument always ignore the fact that the pvp game is a superset of pve. Pvp gets whatever pve gets plus all the pvp aspects as well.
  3. Understand I agree with you.... They should have had 1 sandbox but as you have pointed out they choose the course to seperate them all.... And when you set the precedent then there is no way to walk it back. PvE players need PvP players, even though they will never admit it, and swear up and down they don't... PvP players create danger, the cause Risk which makes Reward more Rewarding... Sadly MMORPG's since the day Ultima Online seperated the Good and the Bad when they created Trammel have operated under this Care Bear philosophy the ultimately ends up PvE Crowd Matters "They are the Majority" PvP crowd is an afterthought "Minority" (Less Money) You can see this in nearly every Major MMORPG including World of Warcraft. As for the Level the playing field it's not a matter of is it level its a matter of does it appear to be level. Your a prospective Xbox buyer thinking about making the purchase, are you more then likely to make the purchase if you know everyone is starting at the same point or are you less likely to make the purchase if you know there are bands of Computer players with high level characters and multiple Galleys and Islands that are already claimed and tons of money in there bank accounts with tons of high level tames. Sure the computer player thats been playing since release will have the Know How to level the Correct things and progress far faster but that doesn't matter.... What matters is the Happy feeling the prospective xbox buyer is going to have when he knows he will be starting on equal footing "cough" "cough".... Your knowledge and your right assumption that computer players will have the advantage is of no concern for sales, the only thing that matters is the appearance of the wipe.
  4. Dollie says there's no decision on a wipe and it's mostly based on technical factors, and yet here we are again with people confidently stating that she's confirmed a wipe. If I wasn't fairly certain that you all live in different geographies, I'd swear they're putting something in your water.

  6. You bring up a great point. NPC's are currently the better option for cannons and sails even if players would prefer to play with each other. I've never understood why Atlas NPC's had the same stat values as players when they largely aren't doing the things players are. Revamping NPC stats so they were more relevant to the roles NPC's typically have would make more sense, but while doing that revamp, NPC's need to be made less perfect out of the box at those key roles, because you are dead on about how this creates a disincentive for players to play together. I'd favor NPC's that were slow but passable out of the box at cannons and sails, but had stats that let them improve at these things as you leveled them, with the goal of being worse at it than the average player, instead of AI perfect. Regarding catching yourself before typing something foolish, I swear I have never ever done that. Every thought comes out of my head perfect and pristine. I totally do not ever start to type something, look at it, decide it's completely wrong and change my mind before hitting submit. Nope. Never. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
  7. I for one liked what I saw. I personally think the game is too heavily dependant on blueprints & resource gathering because there is just no alternative. I love the building side of the game, and the resource gathering is a necessary evil, which I don't mind, but we need some alternatives and this is where the economy comes in. 1. Develop trading hubs As simple as it may seem, developing the trading aspect of the game would open up a whole range of gameplay options to get people out at sea and onto their ships. Running cargo to buy, sell or to fulfill an order gives you a reason to set sail to different places on the map. It also gives the Pirates something to pillage and a reason to! Need wood? Chop down some trees, head to a trading hub to buy some, or open a contract for somebody else to bring you some instead... Got Wood? Setup Shop. Pay some Gold at one of the trading hubs to open a store and sell what you've got. Hire an AI shop keeper to be available 24/7 to sell your wares whilst you're offline. Get Wood! Somebody needs some wood but can't get it themselves? Take that contract, pick up the shipment and deliver it for a bag of gold... Steal Wood! Why spend time chopping down trees or sailing off to buy the wood to fulfill a contract. Take somebody else's and claim the contract payment for yourself! 2. Role Play, not Jack of all trades. Along with the skill tree re-work, I think there should specializations which could then further enhance the Player driven economy. Let's take Gunsmiths, for example, if the skill tree is such that nobody can ever do everything, it will force players to specialize. That, in turn, leads to opportunities to make some money from your chosen skill tree. You want to be the best Cannon maker in all of the high seas, go for it. Set up shop, buy the rare blueprints (specialization still required to understand them), put out the contracts to buy all of the special metals required to make them and then sell them at the trading hub! This could then be repeated for shipbuilders, armorers, Blacksmiths. 3. Rework the flotsam Without fail, get a blueprint, a piece of music, a number of a food item and a few coins. Make the flotsam a crate of goods, it could be wood (adrift from a player that was sunk running wood for a contract), it could be Coconuts, it could be part of a fine sail, but make them more interesting and for the love of God, not so many of them and stop them glowing! I'm playing right now sailing through I2 and I swear there are at least 30+ surrounding me as I sit adrift after diving a wreck. Which leads me nicely to point 4. 4. Make Wrecks Great Again! As above, wrecks are hardly worth it... They drop a couple of blueprints, a little Gold and some food. Wrecks should be just that, wrecks. Salvage Physical items from them like cannons, ammunition, crates of goods and of course the obligatory Gold Chest! I like that they can be hard to navigate as they are right now, but they also shouldn't de-spawn as soon as the loot is picked up. Leave the wreck in place, make it difficult to get in AND out of it to get to the Gold Chest and leave it on the bottom of the ocean until the players have sailed out of render range and it can be cleaned up nice and neatly by the server. 5. Intelligent AI crew OK, this one is tough, but the AI crew should be able to do more than just stand there on a Cannon. For 10 straight weeks Mary One Legged Nine toes (not quite sure what's going on there) has been holding onto that cannon for all she is worth... Doesn't she get tired? Doesn't she need to eat or go to the bathroom? My point being that the crew shouldn't just stand there like lemons their entire life, let's add some bunks and maybe some fatigue... 30 minutes on the gun at a time before needing a break? Sounds fair to me, send her to her bunk for 10 minutes to re-fill her stamina... And make us need bunks in the bowels of our ships... You want 10 crew? You need 5 bunks or you're not getting them. Oh, and by the way, a scurvy dog told me that there is a trader in H5 that sells hammocks that are so comfortable, they regenerate your sailors' stamina at double the normal speed! The bowels of our ships need something else to fill the empty voids that they have become. Maybe some cargo crates that we've picked up from that wreck eh? Add more variety to what they can do as well. Put someone on the crows' nest to ring the bell if enemy ships are sighted so that I'm not caught with my pants down crafting a new set below decks at the tannery, give us a ships cook to keep the crew fed with better meals than just the basic fruits that are allowed in the crew larder ;) , and get the bosun to fix that damned leaky ceiling in the Captain's quarters whilst were underway, I don't care if it takes him 20 minutes to do it, just get it done. OK, I have to stop there because the ideas just keep flowing and the post is getting TLDR...!
  8. Alrighty, I've gotten some tips from folks in other threads but I'm gonna start a new one in an attempt to cover all my bases. I'm successfully hosting a 3x3 Atlas server on a dedicated physical server. Folks are able to connect via the steam favorites and in-game server browser. I, however, cannot connect from my gaming PC on the LAN. This is my startup script for each of the 9 server instances (obviously tweaked for serverx/y and ports). Some people swear this "just works" for them after they add MultiHome but no luck for me. I tried adding a loopback adapter to my public IP and that didn't change anything. I have never seen my server in the in-game server browser. I can however see it when I add it as 10.0.0.11:57561 in Steam Favorites. When I try to join through favorites though it kicks back that it can't query the server. I feel pretty confident this is a hairpinning issue and the problem is that I can't get the Atlas game client to allow me to host it publicly and connect locally at the same time. I see people have created LAN-only servers by setting all their IP's to just the private IP. I'm guessing if I do that then the folks outside the network won't see it anymore though. I also see some folks reported success by using high end routers in place of their ISP router so that they could unblock the hairpinning at the edge. I don't have a router for that right now though so that's not an option for me. Any ideas? Has anyone else been able to host a server for external access and also connect from a separate PC on their LAN?

  10. No I mean that it is like many things, a set of ideas that are mostly not original but borrowed from other places. Off the top of my head the only core concept in the constitution that's original that I can think of is the system of checks and balances between the branches to keep any one branch from becoming too powerful. I don't think that had been done before but I couldn't swear to it. Pretty much everything else was not a new idea. What was original was pulling all those different ideas together in one place.

  13. I swear to god if I dont get M4 big island myself, I will grief who ever lives there EVERY DAY. I KNOW ALL THE HIDING SPOTS. THAT ISLAND IS MINE! (but its got five natrual harbors, and its pretty big so we can share tho)
  14. Very true on everything. I started gaming way before skins, and I can be the first to honestly say I have literally never used a skin in any of the 100’s of games I played. Seems too much like dress up to me. you are also correct on the whole adding islands thing. That so also why I recently made the thread of underwater caves that you can actually build in. Sure, some won’t like it but that is all good. You/I/anyone would come up with an idea and I guarantee someone won’t like it lol. i swear to god that factions would be a success. Even if you don’t agree with me. At least agree that it would be fresh, new and interesting, regardless if it is bad or not.
  15. How about Not.... When I think of Factions I envision Countries. Name them whatever you want I am using real life countries for simplicity sake!!! France Spain England Holland Pirates Guilds would swear allegiance to a Country Country's would declare War NO War no right to kill unless your a Pirate in which case you are automatically at war with all Country's No Diplomacy for Pirates!!! And Pirate Guilds can of course kill each other all they want because Pirates!!! However absolutely no Country on Country PvP if it happens then the Criminal can either be banished bye his guild to become a Guildless Pirate or the Guild can choose to become Pirates! And any land they own inside of the country's borders will be forfeit... If your Not Part of a guild, No worries, if you break the law you will be automatically banished from the country, all lands forfeit.... If your Not part of a guild and a pirate well you welcome to do whatever you want just don't expect to own much land as anything you own will be fair game for everybody!!! I also envision Voting and Government... Vice Roys!!! and Governors who hold power in Free Ports, and Players who claim a free port as there home who have voting rights to elect there Governor! Be him French or English or Spanish.... But he can Never be a Pirate!!!! So as a member of a pirate faction you give up your voting rights and your ancestry of even having started at a certain Free Port.... This is the type of system I envision, one with Government and country's build Law and Order. Forming alliances and declaring wars... etc etc I also envision the voting rights to be tied to those that Hold land... And Parcels of land being Purchasable, not huge, but big enough for one person to build something nice and depending on the quality of land that parcel is... will dictate its worth is tax's is it land locked or is it coastal etc etc... Additionally I envision an area of the map to be De Jure to the Country and Not capturable in war... An area that is literally a safe haven for anyone in that country.... These places "Capitals" Would be obvious choices for Trade and an Economy to Grow, Shops would spring up etc.... They would be the seat of the King. The King would need to be a Land Owner inside of the capital... The King would be elected bye a committee of his Governors and Viceroys people who do not live in the capital but preside over there own fief's... Besides the Capital there should always be atleast two other garunteed De Jure area's of the country the seats of the Governor's who would be land owners at those locations and elected bye all the land owners of that location. -The Governor here would have to be of the correct country and a Land owner - But since his Fief is not a capital some of his subjects aka fellow landowners could be citizens of other country's unless of course he has pass a law to banish residents from another country, this obviously wouldn't make him very popular with that faction. And all the parcels of land owned bye those poor bastards would end up back for sale to anyone who wants them who is still able to reside there! ^^^^ This could create a way for country's to work together, trade together and also stab each other in the back!!!
  16. I decided to try the non dedicated MP mode. It looks like it is trying to use the same map as my custom server which is a 2x2. If i hide or rename my server map i get fog of war. So my guess is i need to just have a server grid folder with all of the grid maps in it. I swear i have seen this somewhere.
  17. I swear to dog I’m tired of answering this same misconception in game after game after game. The people who create new content and the people who do code optimization are not the same people and do not have interchangeable skill sets. It is not an either or proposition. Doing less new content will not result in more optimization, just less content. Furthermore, they have done a lot of optimization. Check the patch notes. I see a marked difference in performance from the first couple of months. Is there still plenty to do? Sure, tons. But they aren’t sitting on their thumbs when it comes to optimization as you imply. Finally any MMO which does not produce new content dies hard. It’s axiomatic in the industry. So producing new content is imperative.

  21. Update: Flip and I were both in N7. I relogged until I got a rare instance of being able to interact with something and ported to a different bed. While I swear I tried that before, this time I didn't port back and I have maintained my connection for the past 45 minutes. In the attempt, one of my tames disappeared. I am really hoping it randomly reappears.

Alright, I'm appreciate everyone come to reply on this post while I'm still waiting someone from grapeshot give me an answer, I swear I didn't use any exploit personally(Guilottine exploit),same with other third party plugin. I did check my ally and my company, none of them get banned but only me. As someone said, I may do something in game and it's not allowed, but honestly i didn't know the reason i got banned because there's no message leave to me. Anyways, thanks everyone involved this post with me, I hope the community managers will check my post. My level before i got banned is around 77

The storms must cease to be so absurdly often, it must be able to rain a lot of the times and be a LITTLE bit windier without frikkin' hurricanes showing up all the time, that is frankly not only annoying af, but also extremely ridiculous, cause it is so surrealistic that it takes you out of the immersion of the game. I know it says it's supposed to "only" be 33 % of the time or something, but I swear it is more like 70 % of the times I see rain, that I suddenly get 15 cyclones around me.... It is way too unrealistic and also if the devs are hellbent on keeping it this annoying, they should definitely put in a storm warning for a grid at least 5 minutes in advance, so you can park at an island if you're overloaded or just don't wanna deal with these extreme annoyances that are the storm. A lot of the time I do cargo and I just wanna get to where I am going.... The FOG, the LOW WIND; the SOTDs, the WHALES, etc, are enough!! Do NOT need frikkin' storms on top of that, really... Another suggestion I have heard and that I really like, is if it would be possible to make some kind of trading routes for sailing, that are a bit safer so you can maybe go afk for just a minute or so, to have bathroom break or whatever, without having to go through the hassle of parking at an island and backing out/ getting out again, etc. Either that, or make a pause function of some kind (at least on PVE). It is really, really annoying that it is so hard to get just a small tiny break, when sailing a lot of grids etc... it is the single most annoying thing in game for me. (And that is saying a lot, since I HATE cobras more than anything, ever... .:p )
  24. As a former helpdesk and 1st & 2nd level support my hardcoded synapses force me to ask these questions(forgive me): - did you try to turn it off and on again? (I hate to be asking this, I swear) - all cables connected the way they should be? (no creativity encouraged here) - no dog chewing on the cords somewhere? (believe me - I've seen it all) - graphics driver newest version ? reinstall after patching atlas highly recommended (I am successfully using 430.39 for my Nvida, reinstalling after each patch ) - notebook user ? try the display switch (external/extend/ clone) options. - hit it with a big enough hammer (might try showing the tools of the inquisition to the insurgent first) - pray (to be granted a touch of his noodly appendage) (pinch of salt included)
