I went on this morning to do some metal runs from another island, took ship out and the sails are moving backwards and forwards with lag. I go so far out and said na not bothering, turned back and shut the game down. Until it is fixed I will leave it for now, I can't play with lag like that, reaction time from hitting buttons is crazy.

I am just returning to PvE was on the NA server before so now have moved to the EU server. I have played on that server before the most recent wipe and it was playable. Since coming back my ping is always above 130 and the game lags horribly. It makes sailing nearly impossible. I am curious if other players are also experiencing this or if possibly it is something on my end. Any suggestions? Do we think they will patch this soon so I can enjoy it?

Devs please read my words. I have played games only since 2014 as a pve player. I think PVE gets lost in the definition of exactly what it is and, why I was drawn to it myself so please read what I have to say before you make any big moves again and to consider pve players more seriously. Veterans People with disabilities Older generation People with agoraphobia Introverts People wanting to escape the crap of the world today. There are more I am sure that I have not thought of. Veterans have fought their wars, they only want to go on a game in pve mode so they themselves can not only control their situations and not have to fight which would most likely trigger a lot of players. Many of the Vets I have seen posting in the blogs and on the game have left due to them thinking it was going to go to pve/pvp and global server. PVE offers them the choice to put themselves in a controlled situation. People with disabilities now have a way to get up, move about like they can't in real life, they can jump, run all of the things that they can no longer do in real life and if it isn't stressful enough in real life, making them play pvp ( if that is your intentions ) in order to play this awesome game would be, well it just wouldn't be right. Agoraphobia, there are more people out there with this disorder than one actually realizes, they have anxiety about their environment, if it is not a controlled environment then all h#ll breaks loose for them in real life. With the pve aspect of a game it gives them more control of their surroundings. Introverts, shy people that would not really have anything to do with other people due to the severity OF that shyness, in pve they can actively participate in conversations and of course, control their environment, this gives them some sort of platform to build better skills and confidence to actually talking and interacting with people. People wanting to escape the crap of the world today. I am one of them, if I don't get on a pve game I am in F# jail on a constant basis fighting politics, on games like Atlas it keeps me out of F# jail lol. I absolutely hate how our nation is acting and so Atlas gives me a MUCH needed reprieve from the real world one where I myself have control over my actions and not have to worry about the actions of others. There are a lot more out there like me in this aspect than what you think. Last and I feel weird offering this up but, Atlas brought me back from a stroke, I had a mild stroke, didn't know how to use the asdw I could barely decipher left from right and it took real hard thinking to get that straight, after six days of playing Atlas I finally was capable to sail one of my ships, scary as h#ll but, the game itself helped me to get back my functions I am convinced and of course, those gorgeous baby bears!! OMG I lOVE those bears!!! In short ( finally ) PVE is a lot more than what you guys realize, meet us, your pve players Now please, put us back on NA servers, global servers are not only horrible on the lag and rubberbanding they have a high account of mean, snobbish people ( and jerks scared to play pvp so they do it on pve ) whereas you just don't get many on the NA server, that plays an important part of the pve community and why people ARE pve players. Thanks, sorry for the long winded explanations.

Unfortunately most mmo's seem to think that making a game more grindy, keeps people from noticing the lack of any added game content.

With the lack islands and decent areas to build (who wants to build on top of these dumbass pillars of rock that occupy every single island), it's going to happen. Blocking resources intentionally (e.g. putting large walls around it) is one thing, building a base that affects 1 node is another.
  7. 1 point
What I'm saying is you basically have to be doing that or walling off large parts of a lawless island for the devs to care. What you're doing would get basically all of us banned if we did it - I wouldn't be worried if I were you.

Yeah, I think the desync is driving most of the frustation, Ive been 30 yards away (based on client) and been hit miltiple times. Also seen an occasional difference in feed times on client vs server. (Only a few seconds, client will say can be feed, but takes 2-3 seconds before it actually feeds, latency ~70ms) This excludes the giraffe spin, which seems to be a consistant check every 5 seconds for clipping. (Ive put a few in really bad spots just to time that out)

This is me. I've been playing PvP games since the early 80's with text based PvP MUD's. After that it was Shadowbane, then DaOC, then dozens of other games that at least had some point to engaging other players other than to just kill them. I love the sailing. I love the building. I love the idea. But their is literally no point to PvP in this game. No objective. No ladder to climb. No quests to turn in. No rewards to obtain. A lot of risk for zero reward. You can literally lose hundreds of hours of work while you aren't even online. Hell, even my old text based games had an objective in PvP. There was a program that kept track of kills and every kill earned you a point. You were able to buy resurrection scrolls and items using your points. That was over 30 years ago and this game has NOTHING?!

I honestly think it's a server by server issue and related to lag and desynch. The central part of the map seems VERY laggy as opposed to the outer edges. I was sailing up around the NW part of the map and it was much smoother than where I live on D7. Tamed a Giraffe on B2 without almost no issue. All the C5 through like F9 grids are just terrible in terms of latency. Average latency in the NW was around 70-80 while in the central grids it's typically 140+. Can't lower sails using spacebar, sails are twitching back and forth, sailing below the waves in storms. Bears and crew are desynching and traveling behind the boat. I've got some funny screenshots of one of my crew that looks like he's skiing off the back of my boat on one of my bears.

Or you could play the game as intended and y'know sail to the islands... we will continue to destroy these eyesores regardless of empty threats

Do the freeport maps they seem to have loaded up the loot table with shipyards.

Hahaha thanks. Yeah, take down 500 galleys within 6 months to get a single large speed sail. You got your reward, and it is reasonable, large speed sail with good stats is too good for you.

I wish that setting worked in pve but it doesn’t ~ We are also trying to keep down ping on our island most of us are from NA as well ~ We have settlers but we don’t want more (getting too full) ~ On those triple threat discovery beds, they look bad and often get in the way ~ we have had people place them right near our builds and settlers builds like why people ~ If every island owner allowed every discovery bed they would be littered everywhere ~ If your company mates don’t want to sail to get discoveries that’s on them for wanting to stay landlocked in a pirate game ~ If the owner is ok with it or it’s lawless that’s fine (just be considerate with placement) but if the island owner doesn’t want it be respectful, why annoy a company and be selfish for 2 points ~ Everyone thinks it’s ok for them it’s just one but those beds add up so it’s not ok if unwanted ~ Most of the companies that put those down I’m sure delete them on their island js ~ They need to make the system alert notify every non snapped structure by a settler appears in the tribe log (along with every company member on the island) and give us at least 48 hours to delete instead of 24

The core of this game is that it is open world, sandbox, and has a persistent world. PVP is something you can do in a sandbox, so it is also probably a core of the game. PVE is just PVP without the PVP. PVP does contain all of the PVE gameplay, and the devs appear to have tried to just develop the game for PVP, then remove the PVP in order to create a PVE only mode. I can't blame them, and I wish they would just develop the game. Nice story, another group of players that play PVE that you missed is the people who realise the PVP mechanics are mostly lame/undeveloped/imba/boring and want to just play the content (lol)

No lvl limit I think I am 40 and have not even left the grid, just circling doing freeport maps with the pig posse to build up my nest egg. Bit cheaty because freeport awards are boosted because of the live game, they wanted people to get starter BP and gold in their first eight levels. But on single player doing maps just keeps leveling you, they just assume nobody will do them on live without it leveling.. Circle the island on foot grab all the maps, go the next island it is always in town, fill the hot bar to do multiple maps at once, walk your loot down the dock, put the leftover maps in the chest for the other islands, grab some more maps until you did them all. Go to the next island. Demolish any parts you do not need after you get to homebase like all the extra shipyards to unpack more resources.

H5 and I5 in PVE - has like 40-45 online players and those are laggy as hell! We live at I7 - it's way smoother but has some spikes from 60 to 120 and back.

The server C7 is also not playable, ping is 150-180. Ship control at sea is almost impossible. The worst is on the island of Rimounear Enclave, where the company The FB Pyramide! build this monster pyramid. They also make fun of it because all the other players scold. This has been going on for a week now and the Atlas team is unable to prevent this or get the problem under control. I've been playing Atlas since January 2019, but if it continues like this Atlas is uninstalled and I look for another game.

I'm pve, and always do ALOT of damned ship hunting. I use my 20 cannons BRIG (10 cannons each side), NO shotguns, no guns at nose or stern, just usual, as they were, boardside fights. Already took down lvl-60 damned galley for quest (and got masterwork ceilings + 250 gold as reward, lol). And I use ONLY MEDIUM CANNONS. Their only disadvantage - is range a bit lower then SOtDs has. Buy they are turning and that's very important for fights I do. With this accurate "sail by" maneuvers, and with rally and overdrive I can do 3--4 volleys per "sail by". With big cannons It would be a single shot. IMAO - big cannons worth in "shotguns" and only on stern/nose pointing ahead/back. They gr8 at kiting/chasing tactic (which I don't do). But I'm not sure if they are available right now out of gunports. p.s. - I once tried Galley for SOtD hunting and found those battles a real torture. With lack of maneuverability it's one sail by then 2 minutes straight and then one minute turn... you'll spend like for ever to battle each damned ship, get loot from only last one you take down, then spend another forever to do maintenance. Brigs are fun : )

Thats a bummer losing ships and tames etc. I sympathize with that frustration... Maybe i can help... I remember being sooo happy exploring w an awesome new decked out schooner.. I was heading up a coast-line taking in the scenery, figuring out resource locations, scouting potential bases etc., and learning about the game.. BAM!!-1200dmg, 1200dmg, 1200dmg, 1200dmg... My ship raggdolled and throttled then sank... I was befuddled. Zero time to react. Standing on shore staring at the wreckage wondering what happened? NOTHING was visibly near my ship.. Didn't want to swim out for a look because i thought it was some invisible-sea-monster-thing and i didn't have a nearby bed.. for 15 minutes shoreside w 2 NPCs "Is this the Kraken Ive heard about? A squid or the killer whale?"... then anger kicked in, i was SOOO PISSED. "WTF this a terrible game mechanic how can i fight or evade a DAMN MONSTER I CAN'T SEE??!!"...... Someone strolled upon me while i was contemplating rage quitting.. "Need help?" she asked. Smoke came out of my ears while i explained i was sank by an invisible sea monster.. "What?" she asked again I explained the invisible-monster encounter, again, and pointed out the debris in the water. "Oh, that sucks" she said.. .... "Wait here".. She got her Co member, swam out, investigated and concluded it was a bug, invisible friggen rock. Filed a bug report. I wound up joining them. Had a great time for a few months and learned ALOT... Point being this isn't the final product. Also they encourage a "focus" to get feedback. I am NOT saying in ANYWAY that your wrong. My only advice is YOU purchased it so play it the way YOU want. Tell them what sucks, whats fun and why. Take breaks as necessary, i am. GL

Everyone is experiencing it from what I've seen and heard in chat. I've posted multiple times about it in the General Forum and in the Bug Report forum. I tried to do a map last night in F7 and the AOD were warping and rubberbanding so bad I couldn't hit them or dodge the big guys swings on my bear. Ended up dieing because of it and ran back, finished the last 2 AOD, but it bugged the treasure map and said there were 2 more guardians (which there wasn't). Couldn't complete the map. Game is running terrible right now. No one @ATLASis acknowleding the issue which makes it worse.

Your ideas make too much sense! If I were you, I'd be recruiting developers to make your own pirate game. You have the vision for it!
  23. 1 point
No, Grapeshot and Atlas are their own devs/game in my eyes. This team has not released any paid dlc in this game. People need to get over them self and realist that this is a different game. They took assets for Ark and updated the engine but they also changed the key mechanics. Game companies do this all the time when making a new game. I would like Grapeshot to be more independent of Wildcard, stop stealing the grapeshot devs when ark is pooping it self! I also hope that the new devs will be more oriented on working pvp mechanics. We need cool downs that prevents zoning when doing ship pvp, loot bags need to collect to a big bag that last longer to prevent popcorning and beds need to have charges so your ship is not a "clown car".

okay, when you get a negative impulse like this.. walk away form your computer, calm down and think about it for a little while. First of all you can not have dlc you have to pay for in a game that is still early access. The devs are totally new and they need time to learn the code and all that stuff. This is a content addition that is being added, this does not mean that nothing will be changed or fixed in the game. They can walk and chew bubble gum at the same time! I would wait for the patch notes before i start flaming the new devs, give them a chance or get out of here dude! Don't you dear ruin this before they have had a chance! People need to stop being rage dummies!

Devs and community manager, please can you rework building our dream ships? It's really annoying build some structures on ship because every time I get message OBSTRUCTED. Can't place ceilings, walls etc. Thank you

Request: ship insurance or prefabrication of a self-made template. The possibility at the shipyard where a ship was built to recall the destroyed ship. Costs either gold or 2/3 of the original materials. So far, it has been the case that you sometimes build a ship together for several days and then have to level it first. This hurts the loss a lot!

Hmm, these farmhouses seem like they could really be useful. While I do enjoy farming resources sometimes just because its relaxing, I like the thought of having resources farmed while Im out at sea. Excited to see what this looks like. Question, any plans on revisiting the icebox functions to allow food to be stored? or adding an actual fridge that uses ice? I dont mind ice in the preserving bags, but for bases, an actual fridge function would be nice so i can save the preserving bags for ships. Not really a huge deal, more of a QoL question.

Nice, I like where the game seems to be going, creating new options for the players. My only hope with this update is that you can't just buy OP ships, but simpler ones just for exploring or maybe small battles.
  30. 1 point
Good! I'm happy to see things like this, it will help smaller companies and solo players more. Hopefully they add more things like a mine, and other structures. it will offer different ways to play the game and offer ways to lessen grinding and put more time into actually playing. I'm just hoping they add NPC merchant ships that we can board and fight the crews on them, in hopes they are carrying valuable resources and treasure. A towing hawser would also be a great addition to be able to tow ships back to main base to use, or back to a freeport to be able to sell.

I really hope the farmhouses don't make the animals useless... and I really hope you can't just buy Mythic ships. Otherwise looks interesting. Would love to see more animals, skins, and decorations!

In my opinion current ships in the game are going totally WRONG WAY. I don't remember any of pirate movie, cartoon or game where captains were building shotguns-ships, were turning their ships to armored rhombus by roof covers. I don't remember pirates were building french-louvers, or carrying herd of elephants on smallest ship deck. All those metas, kite tactics, 40 big cannons on Sloop, all of that IS JUST MOCKERY OF WHOLE SAILING ROMANCE. I know I'm swearing right now, but sail ships in pirate games ARE THE CORE. THE VERY MAIN PILLAR of whole universe. And universe built just around em. And devs designed few ship, and then let em go as they are. After that they were on some giant crabs, magic torpedoes, dinos invention etc. IMAO that's just mockery of players. It's no surprise that online is falling, and even X-Box release didn't really help to fulfill the world. To be hones - I would just CANCEL all ship that are already exists and redo literally everything about them. We don't have any walls, ceilings, roofs right now. So no more 40 guns on ship with no gunports. No more elephants on sloop decks. No more 6 masts ships (I know there was one 14 masts ship in real history but that was an exception. Usually there were 3 or 4). My idea is: There are 26 ships in the game. Each consist of frame, planks/gunports, decks. Introduced new rgging, new sails attached into sail spots of that rigging and... lets call them "Modules". And yeah. Guns should go into just gunports (with top deck, nose and stern ports introduced). So is there room for creativity. Definitely yes. Is there room for ship disfigurement? Not at all. Let's take a look to seamanship skilltree. 5 main buildings in there. - Wharf - for ship building. There is special "sea smithy" in there. You can build there planks/gunports, deck, rigging, steering wheels, nose figure (you have to buy/earn/find blueprints for one), attachments, modules and patches. All navigator tools are also here. Also there is a loom for sails, where you can create 2 type of sails - square (for better speed) and triangle (for sharp wind angle). - Buoy - is a buoy. - Small, medium and big lighthouses... for light that guide you home (I'll talk about weather later). And there are 6 classes for 26 ships. You will have to open alot of skill here. Ships within one class are same size, but different from each other by SPEED, sturdiness and amount of gunports. 6 class: - Small shipyard - for building ships 6th or 5th classes. - Small repair dock - for repair, and rebuild your ships 6th or 5th classes. Small, cheap. For beginners. For short travels around the island or within one grid, or attacking small unarmed fishing boats : ) They advantage are great turn acceleration and break. - Rigging 6th class. There are planks, and gunports for 12-16 pounds cannon or 8 pounds coulevrin. Decks, cockpit (cockpit always built on stern side of ship) and actually rigging also in this section. - Cockpits are captain places where respawn bed, gold chest and some private boxes are. - Cargo Hold (1x1x1) - for all cargo your ship carry. All cargo holds in a ship connected and have once access from ship round menu. Has limited space and reduced effect on ship's weight. - Berth (1x1x1) - has couple beds for crew. Without one you cannot hire the crew. - Ammunition - contains boxes for all cannonballs, spears etc, for your ship's firepower. Notice there is no cooking spot or resource box. Those ships are not suppose to do long travels. 5 class: For quests within couple of grids, or battle small trading vessels. - Rigging 5th class. There are planks, and gunports for 16-20 pounds cannon or 16 pounds coulevrin. Decks, cockpit (cockpit always built on stern side of ship) and actually rigging also here. - Supply (2x2x1) - room where cocking spot, food storage and resources box located. 4 class: - Medium shipyard - for building ships of 4th or 3th classes. - Medium repair dock - for repair, and rebuild your ships 4th or 3th classes. For trading, resources hunting, half atlas traveling, escort missions and small battles against battle ships. Standard choice for solo players. - Rigging 4th class. There are planks, and gunports for 20-24 pounds cannon or 16 pounds coulevrin. Decks, cockpit (cockpit always built on stern side of ship) and actually rigging also here. - Small cages (2x2x1) - for tames bear size and less. Each cage can hold just one animal. You can put animal in and out by selecting action in round menu. No more animals on decks, if you send then "following mode" and get to your vessel, your animal will stays outside on the ground or into the waters. Good thing is you won't loose em during your journeys, and they wont fall underground or fly to heavens anymore. There are feeding bowl here. - VIP (2x2x1) - For person delivery quests. 3rd class: Fastest ships here for all global questing. - Rigging 3th class. There are planks, and gunports for 24-28 pounds cannon or 16 pounds coulevrin Decks, cockpit (cockpit always built on stern side of ship) and actually rigging here also. Large cages (3x3x2) - for elephants size animals. They goes through two decks at once. Masterworks (2x3x1) - room that contains smithy, pestle and mortar, and tannery so you can maintain your staff during longest journeys. Attachments - Dinghy for drive from your ship to a shore. Dinghy have storage box. While attached to your ship, you can one click to transfer all stuff in there to ships cargo holds and back. Diving attachment - for underwater adventures. Extra cargo holds if you really need some x-tra. 2nd class: - Large shipyard - for building ships of 2th or 1th classes. - Large repair dock - for repair, and rebuild your ships 2th or 1th classes. Mostly unavailable for solo players. Those are absolutely perfect warbirds, for most epic seas battles against strongest enemies, or for those who wishes to collect alot of stuff/animals from around the world. - Rigging 2th class. There are planks, and gunports for 32-36 pounds cannon or 32 pounds coulevrin. Decks, cockpit (cockpit always built on stern side of ship) and actually rigging also here. 1st class: The strongest firepower in a game. Not really good for sea fighting due to lack of maneuverability (maybe in squads or against the same vessels) but perfect for fort assault. - Rigging 1th class. There are planks, and gunports for 42 pounds cannon or 32 pounds coulevrin. Here also decks, cockpit (cockpit always built on stern side of ship) and actually rigging. How to create your ship? - You go your shipyard and brings resources for ship frame. - You go wharf and create planks or gunports (I would bring back resource difference between em). There are top deck gunports for top deck guns (6th and 5th class have only top deck ports). Few in stern and nose. You add decks (they go with stairs and holes for modules). You create one piece of rigging, and put it in one right spot. All masts, cables, ropes, ladders appears. All masts (even nose one) have few sails spot, so you go loom and choice which sails you wanna put in (square for speed and triangle for better wind angles) Then depends of your desire you create modules, or rooms, I listed above. Small ships have so little space so you have to choice wither you wanna gunports, or rooms, and which rooms you put there. Big ships can carry all, and you can make universal ship for all purposes or some special ship for certain goal. If you have a blueprint, you can create attach nose figure. If you have any beautification (like life tubes, lanterns) you can create and attach them too (for those who love micromanagement). If you have a dyes and brushes, you can paint your ship. Then you SAVE YOUR DESIGN and release ship. If your ship is damaged, or you wanna change design - you put your ship to repair dock. It shows how many resources you need to bring for maintenance or to fix damages. You put resources in and repair starts and lasts for couple minutes. NO MORE PLANKS YOU BRINGS WITH YOU IN YOUR TRAVELS. You can apply and replace planks (decks etc.) just in repair dock. You plank can leak but never disappear. In order to survive heavy damage, you go wharf and create patches. With patch you can restore your plank health from 0% to 50%. If you loose your ship it will appear in your home freeport as a ghost ship. Within some time period you can bring it back for gold. With no guns and crew, with empty boxes, but yet same level and design. So that's it, for ship. No need to release em alltogether, but one by one? Why not? And the last thing. Rigging, nose figures, beautification and modules can be different styles (like Asian style or Nordic style) and Devs can release those styles as DLC to get some extra income for game support.
