Please refrain from taking part in early access games. It is only for adults.

Renamed the thread in the interest of fairness due to the fact that both Jat and Dollie have popped into the thread. 3/4 -The vast majority of the people DESPISE the land claim changes on PvE. Being unable to protect the resources from griefers, being unable to protect yourself from griefers deciding that they don't want anyone building within a half islands worth of distance, ugly pillars and foundations everywhere, people griefing the hell out of ships and blocking harbors, plus blocking you from ever expanding your base by builkding as close as possible on either side of you - hell, they already did that with the claim overlaps as it was, and now EVERYWHERE is going to be like that? - A portion of the people hate the idea of the wipe, yeah, I know it's necessary due to land changes and because of the rampant dupeing going on, as well as to re-test the new settings. However, right now, a large portion of the apprehensions isn't just losing what they've worked for, its also fear that this means wipes on a semi-regular basis, so why bother doing everything, again - especially with the land system being so completely against what 95% of the players want, they are going to expect another wipe in a couple months to try again. -Playershops in settlements on PVP, but PVE just gets freeport vendors. Seriously? WTF? This idea has been floated multiple times on both here and reddit, and the general consensus was that PvE players liked it, but PvP players responses were 'Cool, but pointless, we don't trade and would just blow each others shops up anyway." -Abandoned ships still not getting mentioned as any solution found for them. Again, seriously? Yay! The wipe will take care of them, but what about all the ships from the people week 1 after the wipe, who decide to try it again, and realize that the new system is just Ark griefing all over again and quit after a week? (Yeah, the last two are somewhat minor compared to the first one, but, it is something that has time to be changed) I know that the devs enjoy the PvP side of things, and are in contact with a few of the megas over there, but there is another 50% (give or take) of people playing your game on PvE. Let me introduce you to them. (Say Hi, guys). We are the PvErs, we're generally the ones who prefer a low-key playstyle, without being griefed, and without being forced to worry about play schedules. That doesn't mean that we don't play the hell out of games that hold our interest, for 300, 500, 700, 1000 hours+ in 2 months...and recruit our friends/significant others to play those games with us. We build - you guys must love seeing our buildings, you post them on the community spotlight, but these changes, and the upkeep decay, are going to prevent that, because some douchecanoe can just block us from building that last wing of our 12th century japanese fishing port recreation, or our dock and pirate village, complete with shops that have signs, counters, everything but actual traders. We trade - Some of us joined the game to be pirates, and fight SotD all day (Thanks for the new types, btw). Some of us joined the game to be traders, wanting to travel the world for rare and exotic resources and tames, and bringing them back to our base that was designed and built to be a trading port, land to sell at a profit to our neighbors, or to be the one stop shop that sells high end goods to people from the surrounding areas...but we don't even get player shops on our lands, and with no claims, anyone can build a base anywhere, to get any resource, or just go to the closest freeport. We explore - Unfortunately, if you choose to be a builder, the upkeep costs are going to make you a farmer instead of an explorer. We socialize - We're on official because yes, we want the full map, but also because thats where the population is, or at least should be. But, if no one is coming by to trade, and if the overall population drops even lower due to the claim changes and people who get fed up with griefing, then there will be no one to socialize with. Grapeshot, the uproar on these boards isn't because we hate the game, we love it. We're also the ones who spend 300, 500, 1000+ hours playing on PvE. You guys have a dedicated, passionate playerbase that a lot of other devs would kill for. A player base that has been telling their friends about the game, but telling them to wait to get it, because it is so close to being so badass. A player base who wants you to listen to them, and what they've seen and wished for over their literally millions of hours of playtime over the last 2 months. You said a month or so ago, that you guys heard us. With all due respect, you may have heard, but you didn't listen. You HEARD the complaints over land claim, and decided to exercise the nuclear option and got rid of claims entirely, instead of actually LISTENING to people and finding a reasonable way to limit those claims. (even 10 per company with <25 members, 25 for companies of 25-100 members and 50 for companies with 100+ people would have more than enough land for people, and left a huge amount of open areas for new players - especially with the extra 200+ islands coming)

Rule #1 - Respect the other members of the community. There are a lot of issues in the game and with the proposed changes to discuss. If your post is more about making fun of, yelling at, bossing around the other members of the community than it is about discussing the game, your post isn't adding any value to any discussion, and is probably in violation of the Articles of Agreement. It gets old seeing people coming in here just to call others whiners, drag in US political stances, assume a lot of crap about people's ages and backgrounds, and make generalizations about generations. It's one thing to disagree with someone's game ideas and post your reasons why, but what's the point in posting just to personally bash some other player? In the entire history of the world, has it ever done any good telling an upset person to chill or calling them names? Some of these exchanges have been really good, and you can tell people are hot tempered on the subjects, but they keep talking about the game and not each other, and a lot of good info comes out of that. When it's purely personal attacks, nobody gets anything from it. It's just a useless waste of everybody's time. If Dollie ends up shutting them down, we'll lose all the good parts of the threads too just because someone felt like acting up.

It would be nice if this sort of thing was also posted to the forums for those of us who won’t use social media because it’s mostly toxic banality but ..still.. ...post... ...here... ...for some reason. Yeah I know, even as I typed that the absurdity of it struck me. What can I say, I prefer the forums to twitter.

tou cant wipe characters people has already spend 1000+hours ingame even tho you server wipe thats fine! but characters! thats too much what was the point of playing till now then! you need to let people keep their lvl/discorvery points if you want them to keep playing otherwise you will lose over half your numbers playing your game!

Yes, what is Early Access? And why the big fuss. Why do all the trolls replies to every rant of loss with it's EA? Why all the posts ranting of loss? Why do we have one fact-less or false facts post after another. It really comes down to what EA really is. I won't go through the entire list but I have been searching and found a few interesting dates. Some recent, some older. Anthem a new game out: Anthem Early access 2/15/19 thru 2/22/19. Early access 7 days. SWTOR an older game: Early access 12/13/2011 thru 12/20/2011. Early access 7 days. ESO Early access: Early access starts 3/30/14 for the following 5 days. Early access 5 days. Atlas: “ATLAS will be an Early Access title for approximately 2 years.” Early access 2 years. Atlas used the words Early Access for a development period historically called Beta. You see a peak of the historical use of the word EA above having a very different meaning. Early Access historically had a meaning of post beta, one week, first access for those who pre-ordered the game. While beta is pre-EA. Some developers are changing the meaning of the words as we know them. This is the source of all the trouble. Many players entered into an Early Access game expecting what they have grown to know the words to mean, including no additional resets. But really entered a game still very deep in development, including resets. I am a fan of this game and I hope it pulls through this. But the Atlas team could have avoided all of this by being more clear in their language, so people better knew what to expect.

On the island located on B7 (The spring skerry, cheat PT B7 -208436 345418 825 ) appeard players from China who are bugged in rocks and textures. In this way they get inside our base and pull out items from us storage box. They built a small base in textures in whitch they spawn on bed, run out and kill us. They made a claim under the textures. We have recorded video with moments when they come out of the mountines.

I hate to say this, but there is a depressing level of calm rationality on the boards about the upcoming wipe. You people are not being nearly entertaining enough. I'm gonna need to see a lot more hair on fire levels of angst if we're gonna pass the time until the new patch (note I did not say the 20th). Where is the ZOMGWTFBBQSAUCE!? How come there is no poll on whether to use pitchforks, torches, or spoons (Cousin, why a spoon? Cause it's dull you twit it'll hurt more.) when we all march on Wildshot's offices? I expected a lot more Eric Cartman threads: Screw you guys, I'm going home. EA server wipes is where I draw the line. All in all a very disappointing performance to date. Let's all get a good nights rest and then try to show some energy and enthusiasm for loudly declaring that the sky is falling tommorrow okay? That is all. Carry on.

The number 1 reason devs don't "listen to us" There's a lot of "us" and "us" are very noisy and say different things. It's kinda like how Congress can never do anything without almost 50% of people being outraged.

Game launch December 22. Number of days since launch til now: 69 69 x 24= 1656 hours. Give or take. If you have spent more than two thirds of the time since launch playing this game, please stop playing and seek medical assistance for addiction. I'm not even joking. If you're just engaging in hyperbole to try to make your weak argument seem stronger, you just got called on it. Either way, Chuck is right.

Setting aside the absurdity of someone having over 1000 hours in a game thats only been out for 2 months..... Did you really think your toon would make it to release? If nothing else it was a temporary situatuon to begin with as this is EA. Ffs was the EA part not marked clearly? So many people are all about this being a real game thats live. Just not the case.
  12. 3 points
Thank you. But yes, it is a real difference to take part in an early access game compared to a released game. I think this is not really clear to everybody who bought the game. Hence the frustration.

Just because another game made it through a EA with no wipe doesn't mean another game won't. FFS people!, stop your crying and see this as an opportunity to start fresh. If you think all your hard work is being wiped out then maybe Hello Kitty Online (or heaven forbid Fortnite) is something more up your alley. Did you have fun up until now? I am sure you did, as you are still here. Most people got their money's worth from the game so far. Use this time to find what island you want to live on, (specially to those that were stuck living on Lawless), start building your base (plan it, take screen shots to remember), build cool looking ships for future reference. Set all your tames on wandering, aggressive and watch them destroy everything in their path. Go have fun on the seas, be reckless! Who cares if you lose a ship..With the 6X you can build another one and in an hour be out again for fun. Go ram your ships into docks and watch them explode. Meet people to form alliances with, use this month you have to YOUR advantage.. Stop looking at this as doom and gloom and put a positive spin on it. And before anyone says anything about my hours and blah, blah blah is.. I have over 700+ hours, shit TONS of tames, ships, base cities, ton of discoveries, and more. I am welcoming this wipe. I have beta and alpha tested A LOT of games and over 20 years of online gaming under my belt. There were plenty of games that have had wipes, and many that should of had wipes. Nothing is permanent. P.S. Lighten up, enjoy life, smile more, laugh more, and don't get so worked up about things. There are worse things in life.

I am starting to think people should have to answer a questionnaire before participating in EA. There will probably be multiple wipes before full release and once the game is "released" it will be wiped again. Did you guys think they would release the game and force all the new players to compete against companies that have 2 years of infrastructure in place?

With the new patch notes "raid windows and war tokens" this is appealing to some players but there is also a large chunk of the community that wants normal PVP without invincible god mode outside normal hours . Can I suggest we have the following :- 1- 1 server for the new ruleset (march update) 2- 1 server for hardcore mode :- No land claim Everything is lawless Standard PVP ruleset anytime anywhere Hell even put all of EU and US on the one hardcore server if your worried about population. This way everyone gets what they want , the hardcore PVP crew go one way , the rest go on the new ruleset

Hello everybody! My wife and I play ATLAS since its release in December. It was the first game in years, which we both enjoyed equally. We both like different aspects of the game. I love the exploring with the ship. I really like the mechanic how to steer the ships. Discovering a new island with different flora and fauna is awesome. I remeber the first time I saw Yeties and I just reasently discovered a desert with cactus and stuff. She enjoys a lot the taming and breeding and running around with the animals. I loved creating a home for us (the building part) and providing stables and ressources for her animals. We have a small prt of a small Island, we call our home, which we improve weekly and increase our "zoo". We play on PvE because we are not interested in fighting. We enjoyy the Robinson Crusoe part :-) Normally I am not so much of someone that writes in forums, especially because I am a product manager in a computer gaming company and I know, it mostly doeesn't reach the decision makers. But I would like to mention the 2-3 things I wish they will not happen and one thing I actually would like reversed. It feels like the game is getting easier and easier and you take away so many challenges. It shouldn't be so fast to achieve everything. That takes away the feeling of accomplishment. Please do NOT let everybody spawn on any server or even island. Rather make it more difficult to reach certain region of the world. Don't let everybody get a Ramshakle Sloop from freeports (in 5-10 min). It was sooo much fun sailing of with the raft into the polar reagion and finding an excluded island. The wolves were crazy hard but after 100 attempts haveing a little cottage, that was safe from the wolves felt so great. We had bears on the island but no way of taming them because we had no honey. So we build a ship and I sailed out to find an island with honey to get it back to my wife for taming. I went from island to island. I was searching and asked people if they have seen bees and honey. After days I finally found honey. After some struggle with lions and crocodiles I managed to harvest some and sailed back to the arctic, where my wive tamed our first bear. Now you can tame with anyberry and makes it easy with the 2x taming weekends. Everybody has a bear by now. Where is the challenge? Same thing was for Giraffes: Finding wild beet, getting seeds, growing beet and taming a giraffe felt sooo rewarding. Using any vegetable feels like cheating and not special. By now you can find almost all ressources you need on every island. To encourage trading and exploring the islands should only provide the basic ressources and 1-2 special one. This would get people to interact and wander the whole world. The change, that is supposed to happen, that makes me the most sad is the removal of the clam flags. It felt great to have a place, that is yours. Our little paradise. Having a small piece of land, that you can call "home" is needed in this kind of game. Building a base is a big part of the game. We would like to have a garden and nature surrounding it, too. We want to create something inviting for other players as well. With the new system it will never be home and surrounding nature is impossible. Either people could build right next to you or it is spammed with pillars and/or foundations. Please give every player just 1 area (claim), where they can build their little paradise - their home. The wipe hurts but please let us keep the game, we enjoyed so many hours. Let us have a little home; reinstate challenges! My apologies, if it sounds like whining but I needed to say, what we feel about the upcoming changes. Maybe some who can do something about it (the product manager) hears about it. Kind regards Klaus Störtebeker EU PvE

I'm wondering how many of you that are whining about the wipe have even watched the live stream, read the patch notes, or will even partake in the public testing on the designated servers when they go live? Yeah I guess by todays standards on video games-im considered old. I've gamed for the last 20+ years. I can just imagine how you guys woulda handled the earlier MMO's when it took you 8-10 hours of camping a solitary mob to get one update. You died repeatedly. Had to run back to areas that took some time to get to. I'm honestly looking forward to the changes. Yeah no claim flags on PVE. But before I start bitching about that i'm gonna give it a chance to see how it plays out. You guys are assuming the worst without even seeing it in the game context. For all you know the repair structure might be the size of a claim flag that will give a no build radius without the ugly red circles that cover the map. Sorry but there was a shit ton of problems that needed to be fixed- Grandfathered in flags that weren't claimable at all. Abandoned Ships that probably wouldn't be able to take any new decay settings since the flags didn't go through with all the changes. Claim timers to long or to short. People losing bases due to claim flag screw ups/overlapping. Ocean flags taxing sotd kills. Balancing Multivitamins-easier to die then eat food. Fountain of Youth issues Treasure maps going to tax banks Not enough sea area to build a shipyard. Not enough land due to people needing to have 100's of flags. No one wanted to pay rent to live on other peoples land-they chose to live on lawless instead. People hated the tax rates. Lag from 100's of abandoned ships/shipyards Crewmembers contesting claims so they were essentially uncontestable since things go into stasis if you don't log in. You can't tell me that after 4 days of trying to take a flag that the crewmembers on a ship still have food-when no one has logged into that area for over 24 days. That's just a few of the things I can think of offhand at the moment. Wah fucking Wah that your big base will get wiped. {Hey I farmed 30k organic paste, the stone and the metal to make my base) Cry me another fucking river. Or the wall of behemoth gates will be gone. I honestly hope they up the cost on the behemoth gates. Yeah i'm sure some Asians will foundation bomb areas. But hey they wanna take the time to upkeep each and every foundation they drop. More power to them. Eventually they'll get bored or the new latest and greatest game will come out. I have better things to do with my time and other grids to sail to. The majority of you people whining that you'll quit with a wipe. Please do just that. But I'm guessing you'll be back as soon as the patch goes live. The attention seeking behavior is getting kinda old. If you don't like official changes. Go to a private server. Hell they are bringing out a small map for you to play on. You can run your own personal Atlas map on your own comp and set it so its so freaking easy you'll burn the game out in a few days. Honestly i'm looking forward to the population increase. Most grids I sail to only have 1-2 active people on them anymore with the exception of lawless servers. I've had land, lost land, had ships, lost ships, had tames, watched tames die. Put over 900 hours in this game to date. I've been through the good, the bad and the ugly. Welcome to the real world. Shit Happens. I don't like my real life neighbors. I have a choice. Move or suck it up and deal with it. Sometimes my bank account gets overdrawn, my car breaks down, the weather is bad and I can't drive. You don't see me slashing my wrists every time shit goes sour. Aww you paid $30 for a game that wipes the map. Grow up and put your big girl panties on or move along. Plenty of other games you can play. So you spent a whole 300-400 hours building your base with the real world crap going on. If your microwave breaks after the warranty expires-you go buy a new one. Same shit applies here. No matter what changes they make. A portion of the population will never be happy with them. /end rant

Ark allowed us to go to entirely new servers without losing all our progress because they included a mechanism for it. You could upload your character, and your tames, in order to prepare for a transfer. They could add that to Atlas, and allow us to upload our Tames and our Characters at a freeport. It's not the Territory itself that I'm upset at losing, it's the Discovery point count (not even the discoveries themselves. Give me the points and reset the explores, I don't care about that) and the Tames we spent a lot of time getting to start breeding. Rebuilding our base won't be that bad, heck, the building is somewhat fun and we can improve our designs. Re-gathering those resources will suck, but it won't be that bad. But spending several hundred hours looking for breeders, and several hundred hours unlocking all those explore points, to be told "do it again".... that sucks.

People DO have to answer a questionnaire before participating in EA. Those people are the developers. The questionnaire is provided by steam. People like to keep sharing Steam's Generic Early Access Banner, but they leave out the Developer Specific Questionnaire that was filled out that contains all this information. Many, Many EA games that intend to do progression wipes include that they will occur in the information. In fact, of all the EA's I've ever been in, only one of them has not listed this and then said they will. Atlas Dev's stated that we could expect "An unparalleled MMO Experience from day one" which includes progression, a cornerstone of MMO's. So you're right, people SHOULD have to answer a questionnaire, and then be held to that questionnaire, which is why the questionnaire exists.
  23. 2 points
I've been in maybe 30 or so Early Access games. Every single one of them that wiped said they would in the EA rundown, and the ones that didn't did not. So far only one game hasn't put that information clearly in the EA info. People like to post the Steam generic EA banner, but they're not including the game specific questionnaire that each dev fills out. Atlas states that we should expect the MMO experience from day one of EA, which includes progression, a major aspect of MMO design. They don't mention wipes, they mention changes. Meanwhile, many of the other games on steam all clearly outline that there may be, or will be, progression wipes. They pair this with iterative progression rates. Atlas is expecting people to play multiple times at live progression rates, which is just weird. It is on the developer to fill out the EA information appropriately.

The wipe tries to fix something that was not broken but on the opposite working quite well. The major concerns were : - you find no land to claim ? Then you have been too lazy searching. I found land on both, PVP and PVE, with ease - you are offline raided all the time ? Happened to me in the beginning. But humans are smart and flexible. At least all these who refuse to become slaves and cheer the devs. After a while they stopped raiding me (too costly in terms of ressources and efforts) - solo players/small groups have no chance ? They have, and they can take revenge on the big boys. But not after the patch. This patch turns Atlas into a pure slave empire. The megatribes now can demolish whom they want and when they want. One insult to your master in chat and the whip is coming. Or the whip is coming without a reason, simply „because they can“. Your slaver not even needs a weapon.. just click your wall. If he is coming during the PVE time window he can hurt you, but you cant hurt him. If you like this new SM scenario.. well.. good luck with your domina.

So I played since day one, only PvE, and I start to wonder when will we see real pirate content? Most time goes to gathering, crafting and buildung. Then you tame and breed to improve you gathering and craft faster. Then came a little pirate stuff. Took the first ship and went for a sail. Did some treasure maps, sunk low level Damnships... Now what? We need for PvE • Merchantships in different sizes to hunt and enter. Some with escort. • Navy that hunts us on navy controlled grids. • NPC villages and harbours to raid. • Make it possible to to sell goods to NPCs on Freeports. Let there be diffrent needs of goods, so trading routes are needed • Let us settle in lawless regions ( need more then now) Give structure a decay so it needs daily upkeep. Implement a building called workshop (autorepair), maybe in three sizes. A small made with thatch, a medium wood and a large with stone. Let them have a radius depending on their size. To make them work let us need to put a npc there and give him gold. And give it a storge for the mats needed for upkeep. Every Player can only build one small and one medium or large workshop. In companys they can build more depending on member numbers but with a max cap. • Let every Player build only one harbour workshop (needs shoreline) for upkeep their shipyards, medium radius. Only four per company as a max cap. • Implement npc cottages with workers for wood gathering or fishing. Take a look at the settlers games for ideas or at Anno. Thats how you should populate a pirate world. Let citys grow. Implement a economy for the citys. • More shiptypes and sizes! Give us hulls that fit better for merchant freighters and whalehunters. We all have that idea how a pirates world looks like, an Atlas is still miles away from that.

Tater Tot you have very good points there! Other issue might be due the alliance limit: "company A" might build near their ally "company B" but because "company A" is smaller than "company B" the 2nd one decides to remove from their ally list "company A" to ally with "company C" witch is bigger. Because the first 2 companies were allies they can`t build or repair their structures because they are too close to the enemy territory witch in fact are friendly and not going to war against each other. Alliance limit does not make sense at all.

I have 840 hours in the game (not 1000+ though) and I'll be staying, so I must be in the half that you're not talking about. Maybe I was away the day they asked everyone if they were staying or leaving? Or maybe I just wasn't asked because I'm not over that 1000 hour mark? Either way, I'll just stand over here next to everyone else that's staying.

Ever been wandering around a mega companies island and thought to yourself, wow that rock and tree look familiar. Or what about those stone builings? Look alot like pubg? Or various other games made with UR4? UR4 engine is amazeballs. Have any of you looked into it? Its so good in fact that you dont even have to be an experienced professional to start putting a game together. With enough motivation and free time to youtube you can start building something in hours. Just use the prebuilt assest. That look so familiar... This has one wondering, since I didnt play Ark. Are there actuall trained developers building this? Or ...is this a B team of wannabes who would never get hired on at a bigger company due to lack of former training? Im talking about it being 2019 and we cant get 200 people on a server with no lag? Im talking we cant put in the work to make sure structures mesh together correctly? Im alking about how hard firm bans on cheaters and giving asia their own servers is mmo 101! Again, so far im still a fan. But i wonder as some things are less than professional looking. I guess I compare them the Intrepid Studios team and the Rare team on my head. The ideas sound like they are there, but the communication, game plan and execution is not on par with thier peers yet. The major changes and scheduled ptr, wipe and patch are all moves in the right direction though. -CS

Everybody is able to understand the emotions of dissapointment and frustration because of the wipe. But the game is in developement, it is not finished. You have to adapt your assessments about the game to the developement process you take part in.

We are talking about two different things. You are talking about your personal opinion and perception of the game. I am talking about the game's overall reception and reputation in the marketplace. Where you are absolutely right is that if you like it, play it, and who gives a @#$% what anybody else thinks. I also agree that many players have unfair or unrealistic expectations of Early Access games. Folks familiar with my posting history are rolling their eyes right now and muttering "oh great, here he goes about EA standards again." I'm not gonna do that, check my posting history if you want to know what thats all about, suffice to say I think there is some blame on both sides, but given that Wildshot didn't exactly hype the game up a lot, I think most of the blame for expectations lies with players. Grapecard has done it's fair share of things wrong, but not having an endless hype campaign for Atlas, just announcing your game's launch at a big industry event and then launching it shortly thereafter is a move I agree with. But here's where dismissing the numbers as meaningless misses the point, EA or no. Like it or not, a game's success at launch has a huge impact on it's long term prospects. Small games flying under the radar have a different ruleset to some degree, but big name titles like Atlas get defined by their initial impression in the marketplace, EA or no. The reason this should concern you is that Atlas as a game with a vast multiplayer (theoretically) economy driven world needs lots of players to live up to it's potential. You may see that potential, but if not many others do, the game you play will suffer for it.

Au contraire mon frere. The phrase "You never get a second chance to make a first impression" goes double in the gaming industry. To say that gamers as a group have a short attention span is ----Oooo look Anthem's out! I bet it's gonna be awesome and not suck at all! What was I saying? Right. Atlas. Numbers. Meaning. Look there is a hard truth to face here. If it weren't for Bethesda inventing new ways to piss off their own fans with Fallout 76, or maybe whatever is going on with the aforementioned Anthem right now, Atlas would arguably be one of the worst major game launches ever. If your game forces Steam to suspend it's normally ironclad refund policy in acknowledgement of just how bad you screwed the proverbial pooch, that is not something that is without meaning or consequence for your game's long term success. Atlas may recover from an inauspcious beginning to rise to respectability, but becoming a hit EVER is likely off the table, and respectable numbers will take a lot of hard work, righting the ship, and will be an uphill fight. Personally since I prefer to play one or two games for long term periods rather than hopping from game to game, I would like to see that happen, but I'm not gonna piss on anyone's leg and tell them it's raining in the meantime. Don't fool yourself, this game has potential but is off to a very bad start, and that is exactly what those numbers mean.

Here's the thing, I broke down the math on a couple other threads. if it was set to 10 flags for a company of less than 25 people, 25 flags for a company of 25-100, and 50 flags for a company of 100+, there would be more than enough land for everyone. You may say that seems like too much land, but, look at the numbers. Right now, the top 10 companies combined have between 8 and 9000 land claims. If you go with the conservative estimate of 8000 flags between them, and even if you assume they are all over 100 player companies..and they're not, not by a longshot, changing to the above numbers would free up 7500 claims. Thats just the top 10 companies. Let that sink in. 7500 claims freed up, from only 10 companies lands. Now, look at the other 75% of the map that the top 10 companies didn't own, and count all the groups under 25 members that have claimed 20, or 40, or 100+ claims, that would now only get 10. Thats a huge amount more freed up. Take out the sea-claim bullshit - thats some more land free'd up - and now people would have to use 1 or 2 of their claims to claim a little bit of water for themselves, their dock, port, etc. A conservative estimate of the number of claims that would be freed up overall, would be in the 15000 range. That is land for 1500 companies with <25 members. or 600 companies with 25-100 people, or 300 companies with 100+ people. if you figure an average company size of 10 people, that's 15,000 more people that would have land, that didn't have it before. (remember, these are just the claims divested from people who had more than the limit, not the people who already had land) Now, on top of that, you add in the fact that there are going to be 200+ new islands added? Literally 25% more land available than there is now. Now, on top of that, set a straight 15 day since last login to that grid timer, and when the countdown hits 0, the land becomes claimable instantly - none of the declaiming garbage. Timer hits 0 and all your red circles are gone, Poof. There will be more than enough room for everyone who has ever played on PvE, twice over. If that ever fills, and stays filled, then there will be more than enough players for them to justify opening another server cluster.

Hey bud do you have Tuesdays euromillions numbers by any chance

Aye, agreed, I should have phrased that part better in the original post. As much as it hurts everyone to lose 300+ hours. This wipe was 100% necessary to change land, as well as get rid of all the exploited gains that people had gotten. Duping wasn't only a problem on PvP, it was just a whole lot more visible there. I just wish that I could have more faith in the dev team to do what's right for players on PvE, instead of just the heavy PvP focus that we're seeing once again. Seeing the depth of changes that the PvP servers are getting, and the PvE servers basically get, "Here, no more claims. Now shut the hell up about lack of land already." doesn't seem to bode well for the 50% or so of the playerbase who plays PvE.

I think you'll find most of what they have done was based on feedback... it was just based on the feedback of the most vocal group at each time (generally NOT the people enjoying an aspect of the game). Each iteration will have its detractors and its fans. Generally the fans keep playing, and the detractors make their way to the forums to complain. Unfortunately if grapeshot don't have a lead developer with a clear path in mind they will twist and turn all over the place by "listening to the players".

@Daemon Cross in those 400 hours, did you have fun? is the main question. Answer yes, then your time wasn't wasted. If you feel you have wasted 400 hours of your life in this game, and nothing to show, I am really sorry you are seeing it that way. You helped create and shape the way this game is heading. Do you play other games like FPS or some other genre and feel like you wasted your time in there as well because you didn't get a reward? Your show for it and reward is the fun you had, the friendships you built, things of that sort. I don't know, I guess I just look at gaming from a whole other angle. Maybe playing early access games just aren't for you. As in life, nothing is guaranteed and things will always be changing. And if you don't think I have a life and commitments you are wrong. I have lots of them. Don't assume things about people you don't know. Some of us deal with a hell of a lot more than others on a daily basis. It will be very easy to get back what you had and at a faster rate. With the knowledge you have learned from the game itself already, it should be nothing to re-build. And they did post things could possible change, with this statement here.... Early Access Game Get instant access and start playing; get involved with this game as it develops. Note: This Early Access game is not complete and may or may not change further. If you are not excited to play this game in its current state, then you should wait to see if the game progresses further in development.

Aye, back to Ark style, which is the same reason that the rest of my crew and I didn't leave the legacy server we were on, and jut quit instead. We tried to start about a week after the new servers launched, and the first 6 servers we each checked out were already pillared and foundationed to hell, decided that it wasn't worth it to combat that and start all over again. This iteration is going to fail too, the only question is if the devs will decide on another wipe in another couple months to fix what they're screwing up this time, or if they're just going to throw up their hands and say the hell with it, PvE is what it is. After PvE was literally less than a minute's talk in an hour+ devstream, and literally 3 lines in a 3000 word document, I think I already have the answer.

That is the spirit. If we had more testers like you the game would probably already be ready to be released. Thank you for your service I am glad you are getting a break to be honest. Can’t be good for your health

EVERYTHING in game is pretty easy to get ( well except land at times ) .. with all the knowledge you learned so far you can be back to where you are now in the matter of a week or two. Which we would be playing and building and well doing the same things we were before. To those that have a hard time reading, this was posted at the TOP of the games store page right from the moment the game was posted up on steam. Not sure how much more clearer it could be. Keep crying in your chocolate milks if need be, the wipe and changes are happening. Either you suck it up, plan out what you are going to do after the change or go play another game to pass your time. It is really THAT simple. Early Access Game Get instant access and start playing; get involved with this game as it develops. Note: This Early Access game is not complete and may or may not change further. If you are not excited to play this game in its current state, then you should wait to see if the game progresses further in development.

Username and avatar check out because you have a very myopic view of things. The players who have been playing do know how it is going to turn out. We've played Ark and saw pillars as far as the eye can see, because people don't want anyone building right next to them, so they've blocked off areas almost half of an average Atlas island around themselves. And we've seen the same thing happen on lawless islands here. We've played Ark and had neighbors who though that our base was too big, so they pillared outside the base to make sure we couldn't expand. We've had people do the same thing here, with overlapping claim flags. We've played Ark, and watched people block off resources for their own use, which we've already seen in lawless, or worse, build directly on them to stop them from spawning for everyone. We saw the same thing happen in Lawless when they turned spawn blocking back on there. We've seen douchewaffles here already blocking off treasure map locations in their own claims, even though with taxes, they would get a cut of the treasure. Now, anyone can block them anywhere, and since they don't get a cut, they have no reason not to. We've been here since the beginning and saw Lawless turn into barren hellholes devoid of any resources but a couple trees and some fiber and berries when they turned on resource blocking on builds again, and it killed resource respawns so bad that they had to turn it off again...and that is before they reduced build distance, so it was the same build spread as the whole world is. We all agree that something had to be done about the lack of land, and companies having over 3000 claims. The top 10 on the leaderboard had over 9000 land claims combined. We wanted limited land claims. 50 claims max for companies over 100 people, 25 claims for companies 25-100 people and 10 claims for companies with less than 25 people would give everyone enough space to build. If you use those numbers, and just take the land from the top 10 companies, thats 8500 claims freed up, minimum - and I know that the majority of the top 10 didn't have over 100 players, so in reality, it would be a lot more. Add in all the 2-10 man companies that had 100+ claims, and there would be more than enough area give land to literally everyone who has played PVE, or is likely to play PVE in the future - not even counting the 200+ new islands worth of land coming.

Hi, Devs. I know you're out there. I can hear you breathing. MeatSammich is right, and has been the most right of anybody representing the pve reaction to these changes since the announcement. There is also an excellent post from one of the "top companies", Darksea Dawgs https://www.playatlas.com/index.php?/forums/topic/51432-please-re-think-the-flag-system-on-pve/&page=2&tab=comments#comment-286113 It would be really nice if you would listen to your playerbase before making this rotten change and forcing us all to have to do the work to prove to you that it's a mistake. If you consider these changes logically, you should be able to reach the same conclusions we did. We've persisted through the bugs, the network issues, the griefers, and the hackers. I don't think it's too much to ask that you don't make us all waste a lot of time going out to the test server and showing you what a bad decision this would be. There are only so many hoops people are willing to jump through to help you make decisions which would have seemed reasonable and sensible in the first place. If you have information that we don't that indicates these changes are the better way to go, you might do us the favor of explaining that. If not, here's a recap of what you've just told us: You've said you were unhappy with claims, so we are removing them. You don't get to own anything anymore, and everyone can build wherever they want, even if it blocks your resources, your doors, and your ships. We're also adding decay and upkeep so now you have to collect mats and repair everything frequently. Happy yet? But wait, there's more. In order to do this, we're going to wipe the servers. We're also adding a lot of new content, and with our stated goal of helping solos and small companies, we've gated that behind the kraken. But here's a hat. Isn't that great? You're probably not very happy seeing everyone raging on the forums about these changes. But you know what's worse than seeing everyone raging on the forums? Not having anyone on the forums at all.

It’s never good is it. For the last 3 months people have made over a hundred threads that the idea of the new claiming system is the right way to go. And now we’ll probably see 100 of these threads saying the opposite. I love it.

These changes are going to absolutely destroy pve servers. *ESPECIALLY* if buildings still block resources on non lawless zones. Also, if im understanding things correctly, banks are going to be useless on PvE now? Y'all had a really good system going with the taxes and the claim rentals. Just needed to tweak the flags for PvE, not get rid of them completely.
