I've been playing MMO's since UO, and I can say with confidence that the Atlas FoY mechanic is possibly the single most asinine, inept and poorly implemented game mechanic in the history of gaming. Let's all naked-zerg a random island filled with elite mobs - because if we don't, our characters will be hit with a permanent debuff! Out of the dozen people we started with, we've lost five - in each case, the FoY mechanic was the breaking point. I'm not advocating violence or anything... but whoever suggested the current FoY system should have been backhanded immediately, and certainly fired before the end of the design meeting.

Lets make a few key pointers before the discussion for those who were not part of the 100+ players that were a part of killing the kraken. -have 54 ships mostly brigs with at least 5-7 galleons -high ship volume the closer you get to H8 will cause multiple storm spawns attempting to destroy your ship -once making it there with your armada (and you will need one) randoms may end up spawning the kraken which puts up a wall stopping outside ships from entering so you must all enter in spawn zone at same time. -You will need to deal with many attacks. one of which may one shot your brig. -in addition it takes place in a storm which will cause damage over time while fighting and also cause you personally to take damage unless spec'd correctly -you will need lot of resources in order to repair Looking over this list you can tell this is a vary costly monster to attempt to kill. It costs resources and time to build and prepare. After all that 54 ships and an overloaded server to take this beast down. What rewards did we get for this hard work (some more then other organizer i mean you). Well nothing..........if you died. you might consider that to be ok right. But out of those 54 ships how many do you think survived? 40? 30? 20? nope try 3....and out of the entire armada of 54 ships only the crew (which were still ALIVE) got any reward. The rest of the armada got wasted time spent, sunken ships, and sunken resources. Maybe it was meant to be a risk a gamble risk all this for a chance of an reward. The question i ask myself is why would I want to try it again? Next question since now we know for a fact that if you die you get nothing how likely is it for people to work as a team to take this monster down again? Personally I don't recommend even attempting if you want something back for your hard work.

First the things that arnt fun. Falling on another persons raft or boat makes me have to punch suicide to get off of it. Trying to tame an Elephant for 3 weeks and still can't feed the damn thing. Still can't find any land, camped out on lawless. Toxic players. (git gud l2p) Spending hours at sea traveling. Waiting over a a full minute for my items on my hot bar to re-equip, 30 seconds to reload 2 pistols etc. Being Bola'd and rooted in pvp. Joining a company and they don't let you destroy your own buildings, leave company. Shooting Crocodile with cannon, Crocodile laughs, kills you through hull of the ship. Junk loot, worthless crafting patterns etc. Giant stone gates everywhere. Spending hours for days building a ship only to have it sunk due to a bug. (schooner flipped and exploded) Everything related to aging and FoY. Broken skills. (all the bow skills are broken for me) no plus damage etc. PVE = no war. PVP = too much war My pvp experience: Build RS Sloop. travel across 13 zones looking for place to set up, looking for company etc. get blown up by brig with 14 large cannons. Spawn in freeport try again, rinse repeat 5x. I'm level 38 on PvP. In all that time only one group wanted to let me join their co. nobody had a place for me to build, every player I met tried to kill me or destroy my ship. Completely wiped out and started from scratch 5 times at least, a few times I managed to set up a shipyard and build a better boat but that didn't help at all really. My pve experiance: Me asking myself, whats the point of this? I could go on and on but wont bother, just needed to vent. K bye

21 days left and 50% of the players will forget about this horror. Nothing works right. It's like jumping on someone else's raft. The solution to all problems - eat poop. Give a normal single player game, no nerves to play this bug.

No but every time you post about it, whether intentional or not, the tone you convey is that they have no right to expect more than participating in an alpha, and I'm of the opinion they do. Also by using the terms EA and alpha interchangeably, your posts conflate these two things, and I think the fact money is changing hands makes them materially different.

@Percieval and @Ravenguard you guys are arguing about something where imo, you both are right and both are wrong. This is not a black and white issue. Yes the game is clearly advertised as Early Access and consumers should be aware of that and take it into account when choosing to participate in an Early Access phase. On that point I agree with Percieval. But Perc, I've made this point to you in other threads. When you use the term alpha interchangeably with EA and insist they are the same thing and people have no right to complain, you are ignoring an important material difference: no one paid to participate in alphas or betas when they were the standard model. If you aren't paying and the product is under development, then no, you have no legitimate right to bitch. The moment the developers start charging you money for EA, that changes. Now you are a paying customer, and I disagree with the premise you've approached this from which seems to be that as a paying customer I still have no right to expect anything other than paying to participate in an alpha. As a consumer that is a pretty absurd notion. Why should I pay to participate in something that has been free for the entire history of the industries existence? However given that there is very little downside for developers in this approach, we as consumers shouldn't reasonably expect them to voluntarily change the system as presently constructed, it's working just fine for them, less so for us. What we should be doing is demanding some standards for what constitutes an EA product. Others have noted before that currently there is a wide range of the quality of product being offered under the label EA. Some EA games are borderline ready to release and lack only polish. Others *cough* Atlas *cough* were released as barely playable and with so many issues that Steam was forced to ignore it's normal refund policy when dealing with Atlas's launch. I believe the answer is not to yell at each other repeatedly about who is delusional but to agree that the present system isn't advantageous to consumers and demand that Steam institute clear standards for the level of development a game must meet before it can be offered as EA. In the long run this is in everyone's interest, as Steam won't have to deal with headaches like the charlie foxtrot of Atlas's launch, developers will be less likely to shoot themselves in the foot by releasing a product to EA that will develop such a poor reputation out of the gate that it has no chance to succeed, and most importantly consumers will get a clearer expectation of what EA means, which we deserve.

Come on Devs. FOR YEARS IN ARK WE ASKED FOR A CHOICE OF GATES, AND YOU WOULDN'T GIVE US THEM. I am sick and tired of having to build structures that are either TOO SMALL or stupidly OVERSIZED, just to fit the gates. Please give us a selection of Gates, or implement the DYNAMIC GATE from the S+ MOD from Ark. Its not difficult and can be implemented quickly. It would also stop so many shit oversized building having to be made. Which in turn will reduce the lag on the servers. WIN WIN WIN. Come on Devs start using some common sense, you've made a great game so far, but implementing Dynamic gates would make total sense. Give the players what they need. Sorry if this sounds aggressive but I love designing good buildings, but can because of the lack of gate choices I am limited to having to build massive ridiculous barns to incorporate the behemoth gate.

Hello, I originally started a private server hosted locally that was a 2x3. After a few weeks I added a new rack to complete a 4x4 grid. Is there a way to sync the number of days so age stays the same? When I transition from the original box to the recently added box, my age decreases and I would like to see if there is a way to sync everything after the fact. I've seen posts about about the UTC setting in the json but am not certainly that plays the role other than to keep the time of day the same. Thanks

ChemB are duping on EUPVP official server The Whale's Wrath. Linked below are multiple occurrences of the same item, with the same proc values from the same crafter. The probability of getting multiple procs like this from the crafts available on one blueprint is ~ equal to impossible if we kept playing ATLAS with the current playerbase until the heat death of the universe. We have killed one Pathfinder Pathfinder from ChemB in our base and looted a carbine and full mythical gear off his body. Another player. SmokY, had the same carbine equipped. We see now others posting screenshots of the same proc on reddit after being raided by different users also in ChemB. Added is a picture of a random smithy out in the open on an island where ChemB has no player activity, they just left 86 Mythical planks sitting there for funsies.

Update: it seems that Steam has begun to resolve their downtime and users are able to get back into the game. ------------ Hey Pathfinders, There are some issues with Steam which is leading to players having problems connecting/joining servers on our Official Network. We're investigating on our side to see if we can help resolve the situation, but it may remain until Steam has resolved the downtime on their end. You can keep up to date with Steam's status by using the following page here: https://downdetector.com/status/steam We'll keep you posted if there are any further updates on our end. This shit is all nice and stuff but how can you sell that a couple of servers are still down, alot of people are not able to defend bases go fix the shit with steam. What are you gonna do if all our weeks of works gets destroyed in 17 hours? our enemies got free passes to get into our bases, we will lose 17 hours of shit because you choose steam to fuck up. Also if these outtages happen file a complain at steam and you should also pull the plug on all your servers its totally unfair that people are not able to play the game right now and the people who are able to play have a freepass to destroy everything alot of people worked hard for! Atleast come and answer this qeustion atlas what are you from grapeshot gonna do that nobody loses their shit unfair? or is this game only build to be played unfair. This problem between you and steam is all good and shit we lost an complete base we saw on a stream(Nahh dont ban me its not stream sniping if i cannot play myself) atleast 20 ships already and the rest is open to grab. How are you guys gonna compensate for these loses? more days 2x? since we lost that aswell. atleast turn of PVP for all ships, manage your shit make it unfair as soon as this stuff happens. And dont just blame steam and say the problem will resolve itself cos the problem of us losing bases right now is your fault and not steam.

This is a very legitimate point that creates a sobering comparison. Sure it's EA and there is time to right the ship, but only a fool would say that Atlas is off to a promising start.
  26. 2 points
you re the idiot here, the ship dont get there by himself, a PLAYER pull it here.... you know what pve mean GG, now learn what griefer mean
  27. 2 points
its retarded that devs or community managers arent listening or even respond to the community. they dont even bring out more news. the last known news is that the problem is resolving itself. well it obviously isnt since iam waiting for 13 hours to goddam play this crappy as game with naval combat that is rolling on 2 fps because the regions cannot handle more then 100 people in 1 single square. and yeahh i know its early acces, but hell they need to communicate with us instead of not responding to anything at all.

It's clear the people who don't mind the constant offline destruction haven't dealt with it or are active participants in it and they don't want the complaints to derail their gravy train. Go figure, though... EVE tackled all of these kinds of struggles over the last decade and a half. It's surprising Atlas hasn't incorporated similar versions of those concepts such as Sov, high security/low security areas, neutral areas of operation that aren't freeports... the list could really go on and on.

Nothing should attack you anyway unless you attack first, it's pve. It sounds to me you're playing the wrong game mode, pvp might suit you better.

I know it's a minor thing, but can we get the direction that the handling sails and the boom move fixed. When sailing with the wind the boom should be perpendicular to the direction of the wind, and when sailing into the wind, the boom should face the direction of the wind, going downwind, not upwind or perpendicular. I know it's a small thing, but can it get added to a fix at some point. Thanks
  31. 2 points
Labatts is just derailing the post, because the original question if offline raiding is PvP is a very valid one. And no offline raiding is never PvP, because whatever defense you think of has no own intelligence and can not adapt immediately like a player can do. So offline raiding is Player versus a (player setup instead of Dev setup) ENVIROMENT. Or short PvE. And offline raiders or ppl who refuse any sort of ORP just are no real PvPers.
  32. 2 points
OR...If you want to offline raid peeps so bad, you can go play on an unofficial server that openly welcomes griefers such as yourself and your despicable offline raiding practice. Offline raiding can easily circumvent AI. Player intuition, repetition, and devious manipulation of game glitches will always prevail, rendering all of those "better defenses" that you speak of a moot point.

Just another „cry me a river“ whiner threat. Stop whining, fight like a pirat instead, with a ship instead of a X-wing !
  34. 2 points
In my opinion its all about the cost of defense vs the cost of offense. If it is more expensive to attack than defend then players tend to be more peaceful as unless they are genuinely mad at another player they don't want to attack them because they do so at a loss. Toxicity is created when the cost of attacking is less than the cost of defense. Because being an Ahole comes at a huge profit. So the stone mats change was the exact worst thing to do. The claim system was a moronic feature and needs to be redone. What could they have been thinking when a single company can claim so much land. However allowing us to place beds in lawless lands helped with this. These are just my 0.02. But what is fact is that atlas population is plummeting and when 1/3 of your players leave in one month huge changes in the game and/or the game development team needs to be made.

Regardless of fun I think it's important for devs to follow the path and vision of the game design laid out before them. When you start allowing everything to exist because some people find it fun then the game can start to detract from what it was meant to be. In this case if gliders can become the main source of solo transportation for land and even the sea then what happens to other aspects of the game meant for solo transportation aka horses and sloops? Gliding safely off a mountain or boarding other ships from a crows nest is about the extent of glider usefulness Id like to see. When it starts becoming the dominant means of transportation across close islands or across large distances of land then its clearly something that needs to be dealt with to avoid compromising the methods of travel meant for those things.

I agree the angular sails are backwards, I almost thought maybe they loaded the model mirrored because the crows nest is backwards too compared to speed sails. Really triggered when the wind is blowing into the sail from the front to push the boat forward.
