  1. Hi guys I'm a new player on xbox with a couple of questions. Sorry in advance if this has been asked many times before. I cant find the answer any where. So I'm playing on official pve, but I don't understand how to claim an island. My friend and i found an unclaimed island. We went to place a flag down and it came up saying we don't have enough settlement points. It showed we had 0 points out of 73. How do we get settlement points ? Also to claim an island do we need to pay gold upfront and then ongoing after that to keep the island ? I'd really appreciate any help on this, I realise it's a noob question but I seriously can't find the answer. Thanks guys
  2. First up, this is not a new idea to have a tutorial for: There's a great primer here by @Din Narcotic that's gotten a lot of attention. It's a wonderful intro to painting, and I'm going to assume that you've read that post before starting here. This post tries to explain the template creation process. Several other painting tutorials that I'm not going to list, because it goes on and on However, I think each guide on this topic is missing some crucial step, so some newer players are confused by the actual process of painting in-game, from start to finish. In this post, I'm going to attempt to give a complete tutorial on how to paint in-game. This covers the following topics: Basic understanding of files needed for painting Creating templates for different sails/signs/etc Using templates to create an interesting graphic Converting back to a game-readable format Required software: ATLASPntConverter (You can use the ARK PNT converter, but it's missing some features and ATLAS-specific colors) image editing software (I use the free program paint.net, because it has a layers feature which is VERY useful) Of course, ATLAS! Currently, you can only do this on PC - sorry Xbox players File formats/graphics intro Creating graphics to use in-game requires a little bit of file manipulation: the game uses .pnt files to store the graphics, which are unreadable by typical image editing software. You have to use the .pnt converter above (we'll explain thoroughly later) to convert the images to a .png format, which is readable and editable. The only other tricky part is knowing which pixels in the image go to which parts of the in-game item (for those that are interested, this is known as UV mapping). We'll need to make templates for each and every item you want to make a graphic for - that includes player tattoos, each animal you may want to paint, each size and type of sail (including cosmetic designs), signs, billboards, and canvases. Each will need their own template! After that, the only limit is your own creativity. Creating Templates Creating a rough outline Find something you want a template for - if you're lucky, you may be able to find a template online. If not, continue... Gather a paintbrush and a lot of dye. TIP: You can do this in singleplayer, so you can cheat in everything you need with cheat gfi colorbox 1 0 0. Left-click with a paintbrush on the animal/object you want to paint - I'm going to paint a billboard for this tutorial. Paint an outline around each part of the object/animal if possible. For animals, just painting a solid color works better than trying to find the "borders". Some tips: Shift+clicking makes it easier to make the border, since it draws a thicker line. The border doesn't have to be neat - we'll clean it up later. Some regions cannot be painted manually - these can only have a solid color using a paintbrush in-game. On a billboard, only the face of the billboard can have a graphic applied. You may want to draw a square somewhere on each part, as well - sometimes the game will stretch/squish graphics, and drawing a square will show you if that happens. Right-clicking and dragging will just move the object around, which can make it easier to get a good outline. Now click the "Save Paint" button at the top of the screen and name the painting something memorable - I'm naming mine "BillboardTemp" (Your name can only be up to 15 characters). Finding the file and converting to a .png The template is now saved on your computer, in the folder named <Steam_Folder>\SteamApps\common\ATLAS\ShooterGame\Saved\MyPaintings\. The <Steam_Folder> location depends on where you have steam installed on your computer and if you told steam to install it somewhere non-standard. Usually, it's in program files. Find this folder, and in it you should see a file with a name that resembles what you named your painting in-game but it will not match exactly. My billboard template is called BillboardTemp_Sign_Large_Wood_C_1.pnt. Don't change this filename, since everything in the name (other than the part you chose) tells the game what object/animal this painting is for. Open the ATLAS pnt converter, and click the "Open" button at the bottom right - navigate to and select the file in the previous step. You should now see 2 copies of your outline image/template at the top of the screen, like in the image on the right. Now just click save, and change "save as type" to .png. Click save, and now you have a template in an editable format! Cleaning up the template Open your template .png file in an image editing software of your choice. Images below will use paint.net, as I mentioned at the beginning. Check the square that you drew to see if the image has been stretched/squished at all. Animals will typically have lots of stretching, so your square may not even have straight edges. Other objects my scale it, so your square looks more like a rectangle. Keep this in mind while making your graphics. You can start making your graphics right now, but I like to do the following to clean up the template: Fill in each part instead of just having an outline. Add some basic text with the right stretching (based on the square) to remind you in the future how it gets stretched. Remove any extra/stray pixels - I had just 1 pixel to remove. I'm not sure how they get there, but they don't affect the painting so I remove them. Now just save it, and you can use the template to make an interesting graphic! Creating a graphic Using a template to create graphics (using layers) With the template open, save as a new file - paint.net has their own file format (.pdn) that you can use, or you can just save it as a .png. To keep things simple, keep the extra text at the end of the filename, and just change the part of the name that you chose when making the template. I'm naming mine "NyanCat_Sign_Large_Wood_C_1.png". Before making any changes, create a new layer by clicking the Layers menu at the top of the screen, and select "Add New Layer". If you have the layers panel open, you can see all of the layers on the right side of the screen - if you don't have it open, you can open it with F7. Select this new layer, and start adding in changes or pasting in images! Your changes will go on top of the template image, so you know what parts of the image you can use. I'm going to just paste in an image of the Nyan cat. Tips: If your image completely covers the template, you can double-click the "layer 2" on the layers panel, and change the opacity. This lets you see through your image to the template beneath. Just remember to set the opacity back to 255 when you're done. To clean up stray marks outside of the template: Select "layer 1" (the template layer). Then use the "magic wand" tool to select the transparent background outside of the template. Select "layer 2" again and press delete. To finish the painting, uncheck the box next to "layer 1" in the layers panel to make it go invisible. Set the opacity for "layer 2" back to 255 if you messed with that. Finally, save as a .png! It will have a warning about flattening the image - this is fine, it just gets rid of the template layer since it's invisible. Converting back to .pnt and loading into the game Everything up until this point should be in your "My painting folder", although you can do your image editing anywhere you like. Now we have to get the image back into the .pnt format, and loaded back into the game. Open the ATLAS pnt editor and open the image you just made. 2 copies of your image will appear at the top of the screen. The left copy is the actual image on your PC, and the right image is close to what it will look like in-game. SIDEBAR: ATLAS doesn't have every possible color of dye, so it will ALWAYS approximate the look of your image. You have several settings that you can choose between at this point, to change how it looks. These can be found at the bottom left of the screen: YUV/RGB: This changes how the image is interpreted. One option may be closer to the original than the other, so always check both options. Dithering: This causes the streaky, colored lines that try to mix colors together to approximate a color in-between the two options. In my case, the pink of the Nyan Cat isn't available in-game, so it tries to mix a darker pink with white. These are very apparent in gradients, but you may want to turn these off (set to 0) or enhance them (set to 1+) depending on your image. Color palette: By default, all atlas dyes can be used in the painting. If you want to limit these, you can select each color individually across the bottom of the window. But the best solution in most cases is just to press the "Reduce" button which reduces the number of dyes a few at a time without changing the image very much. NOTE: White dyes are transparent in-game. The top-right image above is the one I use for my final painting below, and you can see that the frosting has pink and brown (wood color) since the white is invisible. Once you have the settings the way you like in the pnt converter, click save, and change "save as type" to .pnt. Make sure you're saving in the "My Paintings" folder where you originally found the template file, and that the extra parts of the name are still there - if you miss either of these, you won't be able to see it in-game! Now just hit the object/animal with a paintbrush in game and click "Load paints from this type" at the top left. Select the name you saved the .pnt as, and it will preview on your screen, showing you what it will look like and what dyes you need. Go ahead and get those, and click "Load painting" at the top left. It'll start painting!   3. Ny company have a island but the flag is down on the beach and we want to move the flag to a more secure area on the island. How do you move the flag? On xbox

  5. Hello, everybody, I'm looking for some templates for sails and flags. I just need some basic information about dimensions and file format. Where do i have to put which kind of file? Just need some short instructions ;) I'm a professional graphic designer myself, I'm looking forward to a useful guide for designing sails :D Is there a link or another thread? Best regards, ameesa
  6. Will there come an option to set a flag on ships? Currently my Company sets the comsetic flag on masts, but it is so small it isn't visible from a distance. Can we get some giant flags?
  7. How do I get rid of a claimed settlement (as admin of course) that is full of gold and will be kept up for ages? Player character gone forever, so I really need to get that claim off that island. Anybody know what command or how to do it?
  8. I believe that they can’t fix overlapping issue with flags when you have a lot flags. This is a reason why they add one flag per island. So we have two option. Option 1. No flags at all and everyone can build everywhere. Which is not ideal. Option 2. Have one flag per island. So now we need to help them shape system how one flag per island would work. Please post ideas how you would like to improve one flag per island system. Please discuss topic realated question. Many thanks
  9. The issue with server lag and land claims has a lot to do with an over abundance of abandoned Rafts, Sloops, and Skooners. This issue effects most claimed lands, Power stone Islands, and Lawless islands. Rafts are the worst with this because of the amount of health they have and the slowness of decay. It can take up to 1.5 months for a Raft to sink. This is causing a lot of land in the lawless regions to not be buildable, and inaccessible to anchor. Rafts, Sloops, and Skooners are still clogging up power stone islands and causing disconnects and server lag. And this is also being used to grieve other players by blockading companies into their own land and not being able to sail or access their ship yards. I have addressed this issue before in my post on how to balance the claim flag system here. Here is the lines that pertain to this issue. As you can see this will address these issues and also help with server lag and clutter.
  10. Tutorial for Custom-Image-Flags: Select your Favorite Image. Go to http://www.ark-survival.net/en/image-to-board-sign-pnt-converter/ Put in your Image into the Converter. Now Select "Canvas" in the Resolution 1x1 and klick on "Send" (Optional) Now u can choose a custom Color at "Set Colors" Press "Generate Preview" and download it. Thats the important step! Copy your Image or Drag it into [Atlas Folder -> ShooterGame -> Saved -> MyPaintings] and rename it like this: MyFlag_ClaimingFlag_C or Banana_ClaimingFlag_C or… it must end on: _ClaimingFlag_C Now u can get into the Game, select your Brush and run to your Claiming-Flag. Press the left Mouse Button on it and go to "Load Painting from this Type" in the Top left Corner. Now select your Flag. At last you Need to get your Colors (It will Show up on the Right side of your screen) Sorry for my bad english skills. I hope this will help you guys out, cause I didn't find any Tutorials online allready. Good Luck and sail safe!
  11. We are a small company of friendly finnish players looking for a place to build our permanent base on. We currently have a "temporary" base on lawless, but a flag claim area would be much more comfortable to have. This could also include a mutual aid agreement or an alliance with the seller or other companies in the same region, but not a necessity. So we are looking to buy a flag claim. It would have to have access to sea, room enough for a large shipyard and some room to build a home for ourselves and our furry friends. Basic resources are preferred too. PM if you have any questions or offers.
  12. Fixed a bug which would cause the activity timer on PvE claimflags to tick into the negatives. Also updated so the timer now displays days, hours, minutes, and seconds.
  13. When a player left our company without telling anyone, we had to wait 3 days to capture all the flags that he owned after leaving the company and joining a new company elsewhere. Any structures or foundations that were his... we are unable to demolish, eventhough "Demolish Allowed" is available. I tested this by leaving the company... I placed down a small structure with a bed. Rejoined the company. I was unable to demolish my own placements! I had to wait 3 days before Demolish was allowed. You click Demolish and nothing happens. We can't build anywhere because of this! We own the land! We own the structures that were built before the player left! WE HAVE BEEN WAITING WEEKS FOR THIS ISSUE TO BE RESOLVED! WHEN!? Note: I am the owner of the company. My admins have also tried to demolish... and they get the same result! Nothing happens when you click demolish and you can't build anything anywhere near the foundations or structures until they are removed! Please UPVOTE this issue!
  14. Before you freak out, read the whole idea. First, make all claim flags require a resource upkeep. Second, make that upkeep exponential based on the number of claim flags a company holds. (First flag is 50 wood and 50 fiber per week. By the fifth flag ALL flags require 200 wood, 200 fiber, 200 stone, and 200 berries from the biome type it is planted in per week. By the twentieth flag ALL flags require 1000 wood, 1000 fiber, 1000 stone, 300 metal, 500 berries of biome type, and 200 berries of each of the OTHER biome types per week. Change the flag models to increasingly extravagant structures as higher tier is reached. Maybe every five flags. Exact numbers will be need to be balanced.) Third, make all structures and anchored ships within the claim zone invulnerable so long as upkeep is being met. If upkeep is not met, fast decay times like lawless zones set in. (A pick lock feature to allow some raiding perhaps? Make characters unable to pick locks within 5 meters of a sleeping character?) Fourth, an opposing group's counter claim is a destroyable structure that will continue claiming regardless of ANY nearby players until it is destroyed. Make it require resources to build and make the claim timer much longer. Ships and structures lose invulnerability when the owner clan damages the counter claim structure. (This will need balancing to find best values. Like 500 wood, 500 stone, 200 hides, 120 cooked meat, and a four hour timer. It's a siege after all.) Please respond with refinements that would help balance or avoid exploits. I can't think of everything. Perhaps restricting counter claims to particular days of the week? Like odd numbered grid squares Thursdays and Saturdays, even numbers on Fridays and Sundays, Mondays through Wednesdays only areas that have failed upkeep can be counter claimed. I would prefer counter claims anywhere, anytime, but tiny groups might not agree.
  15. it is necessary to reduce the time of reclaiming the land. 6 hours is absurd. otherwise change only so that the owners of the land can challenge, because anyone who steps in the area resets all the time of the flag in a matter of seconds.   16. A cheat destroymytarget doesn't remove the flag. How can we destroy unwanted flags as admins? I also checked out the the cheat like givetome giveallstructure doesn't work on flags. Maybe there are a set of new cheat commands (like remove flag)?
  17. Guys, we was trying to raid a guild that owns a hole island with like 20-30 flags, when we trow our flag it shows that will took almost 6 hours to claim, this is right? The enemy guild was with like 25 flags, 10 players, we was with 20 players trying to place flags all over the island and all sows 5 hours and 50 min to take
  18. With the exception of the flags used to capture ships, claim flags should be limited to 4 per person in a company (10 for a 1-4 man company). For example, if you had 10 people in a company, the most amount of claim flags you can place down is 50. If a person were to leave the company and thus lower the max claim flags that your company is allowed to place, the owner must choose which flags to remove on the map. The owner doesn't need to decide immediately (He could be mid-battle or away for the day), and can be given 3 days to decide before the system automatically picks for him/her; however, during this period, you will not be able to place additional flags. * If the person that left rejoins or another person joins, the max claim flag limit goes up, thus negating the 3 days to decide; with this method, people who accidentally leave or people that like to troll won't harm the company *
  19. I really enjoyed the game and I'm here to give my suggestion to improve the experience of all players, especially people who play alone or in small Comapany. I already have +200 game and I can not find a live area to claim an area for me. I'm tired of every island (in Lawless region) that I go it is already dominated by a single company. I have visited all the islands of O, A and N is always dominated and it is not possible to "steal" any area. My suggest the following changes to PVE ONLY:- Limit the number of flags of members of the same company to only 1 per Region. (Eg If I have a flag with an claimed area on any of the islands in A2 I can only claim another area in another region eg A3)- If an company owner or some of his crew members do not visit his area within a certain time period the area can be dominated by anyone else and the former owner can be notified (via HUD) to be able to retrieve your items / animals / ships within 6 hours for example, and objects after that period are allowed to be demolished or claimed by the new owner of the area. Note: I found this topic below and it seems a good solution too if it were to be linked with my idea somehow.
  20. I was in a company of 150, and we could not stop the attack on our land. And here is how they did it. We controlled our full island and the opposing force controlled the one next to us. For over 24+ hours they had a group of 6 guys. 2 would build a raft and 4 would sail. They would ran around throwing flags till they got a location. Once they did they plopped down a stone structure. And every raft coming would have items like 2 ceilings and a couple walls after that point. They could get to our island in about 10 mins on the raft to stop the claim. They would run in and build on to their structure making it harder and harder to get inside. They were just building or replacing the parts were had just removed with cannons to make it impossible to get inside to kill the sleeping guy. We killed the vast majority of the raft runners, but if one wall goes up its about 20 more cannon shots atleast to get in. Needless to say our guys after 5000+ connon shots just gave up. The game was not even fun by this point. It was a stupid game mechanic that if the opposing force is willing to do can not be stopped. THE FIX: You can not build on contested land. If you control it or not you can not build. You can repair but not build. This will make attacks more fun in that you will see actual damage during the attacks and not instant wall replacements. And second, you must be on a contested spot for 5 mins to reset the time. Have one naked person just touch the edge of the spot and run off to reset is just not fun. It needs to be 5 plus mins. And last idea. If you have a spot being contested it needs to blink on the map. This is not apart of the above message but would be nice. Ally claims show up as blue on the map!   21. The land claiming in PVE , needs to be changed . If you were late or new player , its really hard to get any land cause every place is taken over and i mean by 1 player thats placed flags all over the island. You ask for land they either dont respond or reject you. Even if they will not build on it others cant have it . And now with the flag defence by only running into the take over area you can defend it people are even worse. Heck only reason i managed to get any land was cause i went for the farthest and smallest island on a grid and even that was all claimed with 0 buildings on it. And why i got it was cause it took the guy 1 hr to travel to it from another island , they had claimed the whole server with only 3 players amd even then came to "defend" the land . Anyways there need to be like 1-2 claiming flags per player at least on the PVE servers cause this is just getting really stupid. And its not only me most times i travel through a grid people are comlaining about it.
  22. so my tribe mate told me some1 whas claiming or flag so we looked around and find them claiming or flag with or shipyard on itwe are building a shooner and they try to claim it.we contest it and won because a alpha horse killed the guy,but how can they put a claim flag on or land???they put a 3 day timer on it right?3 days offline then they can claim but we are online and walking the hole time from home to our shipwe only have 4 flags ( 2 on land 2 at sea for ship building) whats wrong here???devs???
  23. I was reading reports that the flag system is not working (e.g. the 3 day timer is not always working). I heard rumor that only old flags (placed earlier) are not working. Is there any confirmed news about this? Also I would like to have an option, where I could config the timer to 7 days for example. Is there an option available yet?
  24. It's impossible for me to claim back a stolen flag on my base due to the timer that's going in reverse. As you can see the timer is at -95270 seconds and 1 sec later it's -95271
  25. Instead of being able to place claim flags, make the devs choose permanent locations on each island. This way they are spaced apart nicely. Every company can come claim 1 flag. Also reduce it's range. To claim a flag you must place a sort of box next to it and put materials in this. The company that fed the most materials to the required amount gets the flag. You can build around your box now and protect it. Once another company comes and tries to claim your flag, they degrade the materials in your "base box". Once these are depleted, they get the base. This can take up to 10 hours depending on how many materials are in your base box. They can of course also break your door and forcefully empty the box / press claim on the box. It should be protected and once you hit it , you can claim it. (maybe with a 5 minute wait time to avoid griefing). This way, flag spam is gone, bases dont get claimed in 30 minutes and uselessly claimed flags can be taken back easily if they are not being defended. Opening the map to lots of new players.
