  1. Just wanted to give a suggestion in this regard. I think it would be cool to have the option to marry/impregnate women from other crews or even your own. I say this because the whole going and buying a baby thing just seems weird... lol And lets face it.. There are an overwhelming amount of men on these games playing as female toons.. So think of how cool it would be to raise your own replacement.. Hell maybe they could even get breeding stats from both parents... If you think about it, it really would add a whole new layer of depth to the game gameplay and how you interact with other people in the game.. I just feel like a system such as this would be more fluid and something to actually get more involved with than say sailing for hours only to have to die for another hour running the gambit to the FOY.. Or say buying a baby.. The last part just seems wrong on soo many different lvls wouldn't imagine I should have to post the many reasons why it might feel immoral to some.. lol I also feel as though it would promote more alliances in PVP for the sake of breeding your bloodlines and insuring it keeps going forward.. But in any case I think marriage and breeding with others is a fantastic idea and should be looked into by you guys at the very least.. Of course I have a shit ton of ideas on what i'm suggesting but I just wanted to throw out the basic idea to you guys.. Here's hoping you read this and at least consider my idea.. I think it would be awesome to set my kid on wonder in my base and see him walk around sit or interact with everything in my base.. lol
  2. Well... it happened again during the rapid fire patching of last night. We developed a way to raise animals in the Tundra region. How to keep the babies warm, how to boost their cold resistance... hell, we even have a way to cool them off during a heat wave, because like my kids in real life... these babies are fussy. So last night, in the middle of a series of patches, with no cold front and torches blazing... we lost 3 baby cubs to hypothermia. Prior to the patch, they were 100% okay, after the patch was a different story. This has been an exhausting endeavor as people have stayed up through the night trying to keep these guys alive and several other baby bears in the past... We thought we had it this time... and we did... but the update hurt BAD. I know some of the folks in my company want to dive into breeding and learn everything there is to breeding in cold climates, but with the randomness and fickleness of the server and of the cubs... Devs, this may be a low priority, but can you please look into the breeding numbers? It's kind of depressing after you put in so much work.
  3. I have bread bears in 2 Biomes with no issue - Temperate and Tundra. You either need to light fires or wait for heat waves. (or be cooler in hotter Biomes.) Saying there is no way to cool a baby bear - I would recommend nothing warmer than Temperate Zones. @Humcitysav - I have gotten a test baby to Adolescence.(After Juv) We killed it during a heat wave when we decided it was time to move from the Temperate Zone to something cooler. - By we killing it, heat wave on a boat.. RIP.
  4. Seriously, how about you take the time to fix a real problem instead of spending your time sucking the PVP servers cock and nerfing everything and fix the real problems that affect everyone. Like every day or reset, tames falling through the floor and dying, snakes pushing through stone walls to come in your base and kill shit while you are offline, The fact that anything touching an elephants tusks or rhino horn get stuck and cant move. Also the breeding system, when are you going to add more animals to breed? The selection is pathetic. Also after the baby is born, it cant walk up a tiny ramp? It freezes in a room with 16 fires going and penguins and in that same room. Then I walk in and I die from heat within seconds but the baby is still freezing. Fix your shit. You should be ashamed of yourselves ignoring all the time PVE and PVP players are investing in these aspects and all you care about is nerfing the dragon or dumb shit like that. SHAME! SHAME! SHAME! SHAME! SHAME!
  5. Thank you Envie for writing this, it was long, but kept my attention all the way! All true and valid points you made, as a tribe of ark breeders, and great love for animals and tiny cute baby raising, we have given up on breeding in this game, untill they fix the mechanics. We have had so many babies die, its heartbreaking and nearly traumatizing, yes I know its a game, but when u spend ur free time into raising cute baby bear cubs, and they die after half a day, it makes u feel like the worlds most horrible parent.. We have literally tried everything, except moving to tundra ( our mainbase is in temperate) but we arent moving to tundra either, because we hear tundra babies die too, unless like u said u have a team of people switching babysitting shifts, otherwise it's not doable. I hope you will return some day Envie, this game has chased away too many good people, way too many. I don't even understand why devs made atlas, there are so many pirate games already out there, they could have just given more love to Dark and Light, oh how I loved that game so much, it had such a GREAT potential, it was truly amazing when it came out, and then it got destroyed by its own developers...I fear this game is just another side project just like DaL, time will tell.. As bad as this game is at the moment I hope people will find more patience in the deeper parts of their being and stick around, its sad to see good neighbours and friends quit the game one by one every single day.
  6. I actually agree with you.. Knowing a game is ea is half the battle knowing what to expect when playing ea is the rest of it.. lol But i do agree some people are getting waaay to upset. I don't think this situation is a game killer for myself just more of a grind to add to the list of grinds.. But in the end who am I to say what thresholds other people have? I guess mines a bit higher or I just love me some punishment either or I plan to keep playing because as I stated I do love this game.. lol I have gripes who doesn't but it is an ea game.. Ark was hell getting to where it is.. Alot of back and fourth with the updates.. Was it annoying hell yes?! Did I get a little upset when I felt things got broken? You bet I did! But in the end it didn't take away from one of the most amazing games I have ever played the only reason I actually quit playing is well life found a way.. lol It not only found a way but plowed through my life in the form of an annoying baby momma... lol But that's another story.. I have had my share of venting posts.. I call them that because that's all I was doing I still played ark after I vented and I still play atlas. Sure I wouldn't mind seeing the stone going back to what it was but in the end if it doesn't oh well like I said just add it to my list.. The only issue for me is I am a small company.. People don't want to be recruited, They just want to do their own thing it seems like.. And the people who do want to recruit wreak of small children, with names like mustard or hotdogs stuff like that... lol For me as long as I can come to the forums vent once and a while and go back to my grind I'll live.. I have accepted my place in their grand schemes, and that's the bottom of the pole buddy.. I can lash out but it takes me alot of being quite first.. lol So if the DEVS ever read my comments please know that yes i was angry yes i vented my brains out on your forums and I do apologize.. But know this! I do love the work you guys have done as much as I have hated it in the past as well but in the end, (though i do feel like i said things that held truth to them) Ihope you guys don't fail i want you to be a great company for us gamers because you (despite all the bugs and craziness) make incredible worlds with hours,days and years of great content.. It's just always one hell of a ride getting there.. lol Kind of like family you get mad hate on each other but in the end it's nothing but love baby!

Drogith i got a quick question about ur cooling in the water method, someone tested yesterday to cool some baby bears at the beach and it didnt effected them and i tested it aswell once with a baby horse few weeks ago and he still had the palm icon over his head... SO the question is: is the water where u use to cool the babys down fresh water? Aery no problem! hope it will help u

They already have a solution for that which has nothing to do with age, if you simply do not login for 10d your body gets deleted regardless of what age you are and that is if it already not died of hunger/thirst or mob/player. Simply delete their flags along with their body, either login once a week or lose your base. You simply do not need an age mechanic to have a trash player mechanic. We already know how breeding your kid will work because breeding is already in the game, and that is not even something even remotely feasible for a casual player to do. Sorry real life kids I cannot feed you dinner because my game baby needs fed so that my character is not perma debuffed. Sorry honey not in the mood tonight I have to sail across the map because my NPC wife says it is too hot for us to make a baby.
  9. Have you guys tried breeding tho? One of the guys in my group had to light 10 or so fireplaces and a bunch of torches to keep the baby bear happy, same when the female bear was pregnant, this pregnansy took 6 hours. Then the baby got born and he feed it berries for 12 freaking hours, the bear got 22% was juvenile, but could not eat by himself. The guy had to give up and just let the juvenile bear die. How are you supposed to breed animals if you have to afk feed it for hours on end and doing shifts feeding it, 8 hours ea, just to get a slightly better animal than the one you get in the wild. (LVL 36)

    Patch V519.5

    Ahoy Pathfinders! Last week was quite a ride and we would like to thank you all for continuing to sail along with us! It has been about 6 months now since we have renewed the ATLAS journey, and now the last scheduled patch of the year is upon us! We have made several fixes to the Ramming Galley, Armored Docks, and more. This includes a fix for Explosive Barrels so they no longer deal damage in Freeports and removing some bad maps from Treasure Map spawning. Christmas Trees and Ship level caps have also been fixed. We have also included a few changes, like the much requested increase in reverse sailing speed, which has now been increased by 200%. The Glider Suit may now only be activated under 100m height as well. As a little bonus, Bears can also now wear hats! For the full list of bug fixes and changes, please see the changelog. Most importantly, we have also made some server reliability improvements that should also help to reduce incidents of losses. To fully address the issue will be a long-term process, as it is a multifaceted issue and touches many aspects of the code. We are touching on different symptoms of it throughout development as we continue to make our investigations and improve the code. Please continue to report these issues to us as they greatly aid in our efforts to optimize and improve the ATLAS experience. Thanks for your patience, understanding, and support! NEW Tonight’s patch has quite a few new things in store! First up - we have the Lumberyard, a farmhouse variation that gathers only thatch and wood. All of the systems we have been implementing will continue to see development and improvements as we refine them based on feedback and observation. This is the first step towards the next iteration of the farmhouse system as we introduce specialized variants. Regular farmhouses will still continue to collect Wood and Thatch for now. However, Lumberyards will gather them at a much faster rate. Aye, and were ye looking for a way to store all yer drinks for the holidays? The new Keg is the perfect way to store and transport your alcohol. Afterall, drinks taste best directly from a Keg, don’t they? The Keg can be crafted at the Smithy after learning the Secrets of Cooking skill in the Cooking & Farming tree. For only 30 fiber, 5 metal, 50 thatch, and 60 wood - you can build a Keg and be able to store any alcohol items in stacks of 50. Drinks for everyone! Having trouble taming some creatures? Might we recommend the new Tranq Arrow? The Tranq Arrow is a new ammo type for the Bow that deals high amounts of Torpor and little physical damage. It can be used to put creatures to sleep, allowing pirates to more easily contain them for taming. Tranq Arrows can be crafted in the Mortar and Pestle after learning the Taming Tier 2 skill in the Beastmastery Tree. Ramming Galley Last week the first of the new ships that can be bought for gold, the Ramming Galley, hit the shores of Atlas. We were excited to see our baby in action and have made a number of changes to help it create more of a splash. We increased its base speed by 40% and have also increased its turn speed while sails are closed. As a ship meant to directly attack and charge into others, it needed more oomph so we increased the damage of all cannons on the Ramming Galley from 100% to 125%. Ramming Galleys will also now deal damage to NPC ships. To compensate its strength a bit, the Ramming Galley now costs an additional 75 Rhino Horns, a new resource type obtained from defeating Rhinos, to purchase. In addition to these changes, we also made a number of bug fixes to the Ramming Galley, which can be viewed in the full Changelog that follows. As with all the features and mechanics we have so far introduced, we will continue to balance and refine the Ramming Galley. What's Next Previously we discussed a rework on the Claim System. Originally, we intended to introduce this by the end of this year. As things move in development and new challenges present themselves, timelines and ideas can often change. We are still working on the new Claim System’s implementation and testing it. It will likely not be introduced until early next year. Many were concerned that a rework of the Claim System would bring about a wipe. Although wipes are inevitable in EA, we also do our best to wipe only when it is absolutely necessary. At this time there is no estimated or set date for a wipe and we will keep the community updated if that changes. As the last patch of the year, the ATLAS team will be setting sail for a small holiday break. The next scheduled patch will be the week of January 11. However, we will continue to perform daily server restarts and we will have our spyglass handy to watch out for any urgent issues that may require our attention. Otherwise, pass us your Kegs and some glasses please! Happy Holidays! Released Patch Notes V519.5 New Structure: Lumberyard The Lumberyard is a farm that only gathers thatch and wood. It can be crafted at the Smithy after learning the Advanced Automation skill in the Construction & Mercantilism Tree. Shares placement restrictions with other Farmhouses Gathers about 1/3 more wood and thatch than a regular Farmhouse Crafting Resources: 800 Wood, 600 Thatch, 320 Fiber, 280 Metal, 100 Hide New Structure: Keg The Keg is a new storage container used to store alcohol. It can be crafted at the Smithy after learning the Secrets of Cooking skill in the Cooking & Farming Tree.   11. yep temperatures will kill the babies, it gets cold I can light a fire to warm it up, it gets hot not a thing I can find to do about that yet. Took my baby bear for a swim in the ocean since that cools us down when we are hot, Baby still had the flashing sign over its head. =(
  12. Breeding is much more complicated, I guess ill say a secret but. We made a super tall sky elevator and that helped with baby bears. Bringing them up super high actually cooled them off. our guild tamer spent 2 days on a baby bear. also no point in breeding unless you find a super bear.
  13. I'm fine with the time aspect for waiting...but it should not require you to hold the hands of your tames through the entire process. If you breed animals in the same climate they can spawn in than none of the weather should effect them for breeding or maturation of the baby. The Baby should not need to fed until it matures, that should be taken care of by its parents. The only thing players should need to do is provide a pen to keep them safe and ensure both parents are stocked on food.
  14. Honestly it is a ton of experimentation right now. The devs have not released a 100% complete wiki for all of this, so players are for the most part just working together to get what information we can out there. Yes you will have to watch the baby for quite a long time so a group of players that have free time available is pretty much the best solution to this. I'm not entirely sure if the temperature still affects the animal once it is out of the baby stage but if so then it will be a very involved process. I've heard penguins were the solution as well, but I've also heard a tundra outpost with grills would also be a good option. To be honest unless you have a boat load of free time you probably shouldn't get involved in breeding just yet unless it's just to understand the underlying mechanics of the process before information is posted on the wiki.
  15. Babysitting a baby bear for temperature four hours long might me somewhat possible, but the temperature influence should end with juvenile status as there is no automation like air condition. Baby bears shoulld have a much wider range than 7-19 °C. mIght count for other creatues as well. Very unpleassant to spend the whole night to see theat it simply can't be done. You should remove that sadistic unhealthy person that implements such stuff from your team at all. It might be the same sociopath that did it with ARK. Still not sure if it is worth breeding at all if an alpha wolf/bear/lion can 1-2 hit a high level tame to death. The funniest thing is that wolves and lions agro very close after render distance.

Our resource chest with over 20k of wood/thatch/fiber, gems, stones, honey, off-island goods, 2k+ gold, etc was just randomly destroyed upon login, as well as 2 random storage chests, 1 containing a large supply of carbines/blunderbuss/flintlocks/plate armor. Seriously...? That was days of farming and sailing for everything, and now its all gone. This needs to be addressed ASAP. You also killed our baby bull we spent hours keeping alive, and then 'respawned' it as a lvl19 female baby cow.
  17. I cringe at the way this game handles taming. ARK was kind of silly...the notion that you can tranq a wild creature, and shove berries or meat down it's throat and it will suddenly love you, is just silly. This is worse. Now you have to repeatedly, almost kill the animal, then disable it, and shove food in its mouth, as it tries to kill you. Taming the passive creatures is at least realistic. I have actually "tamed" real life wild animals by repeatedly feeding them, and being NICE to them. ARK did have a mechanic, in fact much game code, that could be used for a better, and more rewarding taming experience. In fact, this can bring back a longer taming cycle, though please recognize that I don't want to set up an alarm to get up at 2:00 am to make a kibble for a baby or a tame. Allow for the fact that we have real lives outside of the game. OK, so the baby imprinting code from ARK should form the basis of taming. Included would be tranq darts. That's very old technology. So you tranq a wild animal you want to tame. Then you cage it, and get it back to your ship, or base, or to the ship, and then to the base. There, you will now begin the taming process. Every time you pass it, with a cool down timer between imprintings, the animal will either act passive, or aggressive. You treat it accordingly. You crack a whip at it, if it acts aggressive, and do not feed it, and you feed it when it is nice. This can also be determined by if it allows you to pet it. The more the process moves along, the nicer the animal acts, and the more it is tamed. You do not have to get up at night to do this. If you can't get on that day, the process is just halted, and it will take you more time to tame, than somebody who is able to get on every day. For those who like the idea of personal animals, the animal can still act surly towards those who did not imprint it. But, this adds the possibility for more game play. Everyone has to do this imprinting at some point, to get the animal to like them, or be imprinted to them, though it could be a whole lot shorter, if it is already tamed. In short, this is like befriending your best friend's dog, who hates everybody, by bribing it with good treats. I have done that many times in real life. Though to be honest, I don't really care about tames right now. Their life expectancy around an Alpha, is zero. Even when you have a pack.

  20. You do realise that many people have wrote down many positive things in many threads, however they don't really appear to be read/or matter at all, yeah? Great. This is funny to me. The first thing on your list is that you mention ecosystem. Did you ever play Ark? One of the things that the devs wanted to do when they started working on ark, is to create an ecosystem. They failed, and gave up basically. Atlas devs afaik never mentioned any intention to create what the ark devs failed at creating. What you have described there is a single entity called a lion fighting another single entity called a bear. It is not amazing. It is not an ecosystem. If you think fights between wild animals in ark or atlas are intense and they make you crack up with laughter, that just makes me sad. In 1998 we had wild animals in video games fighting each other, and what year is it now? It also makes me realise that the devs are just hoping that the game they are shitting out appeals to the lowest common denominator. Crows nest colliding on the mast? Oh wow, here, have all my monies!! Did you know that physics have been in games for decades, and here was a grappling hook in CTF quake, which again was released about 1998, over 20 years ago. Not "amazing" at all, and quite sad that err people would think it is "amazing". The whole point of a sandbox game "like ATLAS" is that you can do things, there isn't much of a linear game experience because you have the freedom to "do things", the focus is on the "doing things" so that gamers can make their own experience/game. Sandbox games are actually the most capable of doing those "somethings like this which are so amazing that they have been in a game which was developed in 1998". It is not suprising that when you are irked, you just laugh and say "how amazing lol". But yeah, those human animations LOL such a big stiffyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy Oh yeah, you like how the sea is part of your boat? Your ship just enters the water and gets flooded but magically doesn't sink? If only this game was a movie then it would totally nail it to everybody with those amazing cool totally epic cool visuals. The islands are copy pasted, flat, boring and mostly a procedural generation. Waterfalls and lakes in the middle of an island turning you into a kid going to the zoo for the first time sounds errr so nice *pats head of kid, good child* aww good baby googoogaga Errr, ok? The temperature requirement needs to be removed when creatures are in their natural habitat(where they spawn freely, there is no real reason if i can tame it there that it can't handle the temperature when raising) However if they aren't in their natural habitat i am all for a check going off for too hot or too cold and you needing to adjust the temperature as needed. Its unrealistic to have such strict requirements when even taming a creature is a hassle, breeding them should not also require an investment of this much time and effort. Baby sitting, hand feeding, and general watching to make sure they eat properly is already a huge time investment much-less the constant temperature checking. Though i suggest removing it entirely, a fair compromise is just letting creatures not in their "natural habitat" queue the temperature check throughout growth in the baby and juvenile stages, once they have left those "fussy stages" they should be fine unless there is a HUGE temperature change from their normal. (IE: a tropical creature in a polar region)
  23. @rakwuerm I like the idea with the mechanic of hot cold etc but then we need something that we can create cooling or warming ,dependent on the Biome. In the snow you can always heat and cool the animal but i can imagine in the dessert regions their is not much they can do to cool a baby down. I was thinking maybe some kind of mechanical contraption with fans someone could always cycle to create the power to move the fans (AI Maybe) Although i do feel with this level off attention that as the baby reaches Juvenille then the amount of watching should also lesson as it should start adapting to the climate it is living in.Or it wont make sense of how a normal bear can live thier Also the time it takes to mature is ridiculous .It will turn a lot of people of playing the game and completely remove the ability for a single player or a working person to be able to breed a animal so it needs a lot of attention.For now i will not be trying to Breed animals the benefits are just not worth the time.I play games to enjoy my time not to work as a second job
  24. The time you need to feed babies is as bad if not worse than Ark used to be before consumption and raising rates were reduced. And on top of that babies are also HEAVILY affected by temperature and start losing health the second they get out of temp range (even with penguins / fires) and it's not exactly like there's air conditioners in this game. It's currently almost impossible to raise any baby creatures at this point. Not sure why the devs thought that everything they needed to make a little easier on the players in Ark needed to be made 1000% harder in this game. You can't expect players to hand feed, and regulate temperature on a baby creature for nearly a full 24 hours. Your players need to sleep at some point.
  25. Unless you propose that they just randomly spawn permanent baby animals, the AI changes would be massive. You'd have to first change behavior to stay near mates. Now you have to figure out how to avoid giant herds. Then you have to change behavior to protect babies, so they aren't all instantly destroyed by predators. Again more herd problems or else unique identifiers for animals to recognize individuals. All of this places extra processing load on the server. At if the animals and their combat isn't glitchy enough already. I suppose you could just make babies invulnerable and randomly spawn attached to a mother to follow. Make them become vulnerable when the mother dies. Then bolo and carry home the baby. Once you get it home to a pen it auto tames and you just have to deal with raising it. Adjusting temperature and special food until it's juvenile.
