I'm not old, just nearly 60. I know what games I like and what games I don't (Ive been playing computer games since 1981, which is longer than many gamers have been alive). I know when a game is going to bore me or when its going to hold my attention. I also know how to use both the forums and discord (and possibly twitter when I think about it). I also am much aware that I don't read 90% of what's on discord because its very hard to follow a particular topic as so many people ask so many things that are all tangled up and no sense to most of them. Forums however, allow me to read things at my leisure. To think about what is said and respond if I want to. Discord and Twitter may be the fad of the younger generation, but it will be replaced at some point. Forums have already been around a long time, from even before MMO's existed, well actually before there was any real graphics. Point is, more information can be given, in a single place in a forum than it can in discord chat. Its all collected in one place and easy to access. Goodness I have no idea what Ive missed on discord overnight, and I have no desire to spend all day trying to find what I last read. If I want to read something in a forum, its relatively easy to find a topic I'm interested in, and ignore the ones I'm not. My second issue. I look at terms like "livestream" and wonder how can something that is pre-recorded be called "live"? To be live means something is done at that time. If it was live then questions asked in the chat can actually be answered in the "livestream". There is no way the wall of text of people asking about a wipe would have been missed. It could have therefore been answered there - in the "livestream" for everyone to hear at same time. Don't call something "live" if you know its recorded. Have the decency to do a proper livestream. And yes, we here in the forums DO like to know you are keeping up with what we write. We know some of what is written here is read, as its already been acknowledged in the "livestream", that some lengthy article have been written on the forums that have been helpful. We however, DO NOT, need an essay for a response when a simple acknowledgement will suffice. AND YES it would be very nice to see a LOT more activity from the company on the forums.

    1. Regarding the ingame chat channels. If I have been mistaken in my characterization I apologize. It is meaningfully different for their to be channels created by devs or mods that allow access only to certain players, than for player created channels to have devs or mods belonging to and participating in them. I am not hand waving that distinction away so again if my characterization was in error I apologize. Also the ability for developers to have players report exploits through a channel that is not necessarily widely seen is also useful and valuable and I recognize that as a tool the team would have every legitimate reason to want to maintain. However, regardless of whether the channel is dev created or player created, these channels are creating a problem of perception. I did not pull this notion out of thin air. It is one that I have garnered from disparate sources going as far back as the spring. Players who do not know each other have spoken to me or discussed the existence of channels where megas communicate directly with the devs. You should be aware that this is creating and has contributed to a perception of favoritism towards megas amongst players who do not belong to large companies.I think the end result of this perception is personified by Talono, who sees every new development as catering to large companies regardless of whether that is it's intent or effect. I would suggest that going forward the developers should take some time to consider whether maintaining these channels outweighs this negative perception that is perpetuated amongst the remaining playerbase. Regardless of function or utility, the bottom line is that obviously you and Jat cannot afford to belong to or participate in just any player created chat channel that any player or company invites you to ingame, so inevitably this is going to lead to the perception of favoritism. 2. Regarding your explanation of communication channels as being organized into tiers, presumably with the forum being the top tier (fyi hubs imply a wheel like configuration, so describing something as being in tiers and then saying one part if it is a hub is a bit problematic and unclear, but I think I know what you meant), I must respectfully say that my impression over time of the way information is disseminated is at odds with what you describe. I'm the single most active poster you've got on this forum, so presumably I'm fairly active in reading said forums (I realize it's possible to read a lot and not post much), yet there are more occasions than I can count in 9 months where I learn something from someone which they came by from a non forum source like discord or twitter, and to the best of my knowledge that information isn't available on the forums but is highly relevant to the game. I think there has been some improvement in this area, but if the LiveStream Q and A thread is a pinned and locked thread at the top of the forums, why wouldn't a thread with a link to the livestream also be pinned and locked? I had to look elsewhere on the site to even find a link to the livestream you took questions for from the very forums you're not then posting that stream to. 3. Regarding other channels and feedback I think part of the problem is what other channels require of you as developers and moderators to do in order to gain value from those channels. Discord must be sat and watched in real time. Sometimes the conversations there be they voice or text may be useful, sometimes not, but you don't know unless you are there looking for them and focusing on them. The forums allow one to browse desired topics at any time, they don't require real time monitoring. Twitter is limited to 240 characters. The amount of useful feedback that can realistically be offered in Twitter's format I'm going to charitably refer to as small. The amount of that feedback that couldn't just as easily be offered here is zero. This goes to an important point. If the developers use Twitter more extensively to communicate with players than the forums, they are creating the impression accurate or not that this is the best place to get your feedback heard. This encourages players to communicate there rather than here. This has the secondary effect of creating the impression you don't want, or listen to feedback that doesn't fit into Twitter's extremely limited 240 character format. Twitter is useful for short pithy annoucements such as "servers back up" or "loved meeting you guys at E3." It's utility as a medium for meaningful feedback on a game's development is dubious imo. 4. I'm not going to comment extensively on the livestream since I haven't watched it. The second hand impressions I'm getting from sources I trust doesn't lead me to believe it would be a good investment of my time. Take that however you will. 5. There is most certainly the impression that some information is shared exclusively on Discord or Twitter and this is because as I've already referenced I'm one of your most active forum participants and yet in 9 short months there have been numerous instances of being made aware of important information from other players who said they got it from those channels when to the best of my knowledge the information was nowhere to be found on the forums. It seems to me that it would be a fairly simple procedure when one has information to convey to the playerbase to simply post to forums, then Discord, then twitter, so that every channel is equally informed in real time. I am less concerned about acknowledgement of receipt of feedback since I've always operated on the assumption most stuff gets read at some point, but the idea of a CM emoji response to a post that acknowledges it was read by yourself Jat or some other member of the team seems like a great idea. You're gonna read a lot of stuff. I would even venture to say a majority of it doesn't need or require any real response from the team other than to say "hey we saw that." I write more than my fair share of long winded screeds. I do so mostly in down time from work where I've got nothing meaningfully better or more pressing to do (God I love my job.) If you and Jat started trying to match me word for word in response, even I wouldn't consider that a good use of your time. 6. In summary I am less upset if it is true that there are no developer created ingame channels, as you could probably tell, this idea really burned my biscuits. However, I think the team should seriously consider that what you did describe is also problematic from a perception and fairness perspective, and the team really needs to weigh whether those negatives are outweighed by information provided through such channels about exploits. I would suggest that a means for any player to provide information about exploits that was widely promoted might be more suitable, since players in small groups are often just as aware of these things, sometimes even moreso. I think that the team has been slipshod in it's communications with players across different channels and has failed to properly prioritize making sure that the forums are as fully informed as they should be. This should be a fairly easy thing to fix, as it's mostly about one's mindset and habits. I think devoting CM or developer time to monitoring real time channels like discord is cumbersome and of questionable overall value since you are a small team with limited resources. I also think the team may not realize how the visibility of the emphasis it chooses to place on each channel of communication affects player choice of channel negatively away from the forums and towards channels less suitable for in depth meaningful feedback. Making it more apparent and visible that you are montoring the forums is a step in the right direction, but I think it's fair to say there is a perception amongst the playerbase that this dev team has a strong preference for other channels of communication, and that perception has consequences.

A short list with some fixes and maybe some new features who can be added to the game. Land- -The max health on characters should be limited at 300 and only with BP gear we should be able to cross 300 health.(more fair fights between players) -Fix pike range underwather (is huge and higher in comparison when is used on land) -The glider should loose altitude depending on the weight of the character.(More weight means much faster loosing altitude). -The timer for heal our self with a medkit should be increased. -To heal our self under the wather with a medkit shouldnt be a thing. -Increase mortar damage (it is no longer effective against galies with full resistence,no sense to use mortars against enamy ships even if is an 200% damage mortar. -Increase the 3rd person view when using mortars, we cant use the mortars properly when the mortar is placed somewhere in top of the pillar/cliff. -Increase Standard Carbine damage. -More gun depression for ballista. -More gun depression for Swivel. -Increase puckle resistence, 2 nades and the puckle is gone (Fix puckles behind the stairs) -We shouldnt be able to contest the flag when we are inside the submarine. -We should be allowed to move the flag location in our island once per week without loosing the island claim. -Less range for cannon on tames especially when the tames are on top of the hill/cliff. -Let as to able to pick the Swivel/Puckle/Ballista whenever we want and be able put it somewhere else. -Because no one is farming resources for BP walls/cellings/floors everyone prefers to spam more walls layers so will be nice if we can crafts on usual smithy with only 1 type of resources walls/cellings etc with 1/3/5/x resistence and off course the costs should be much higher but at least the walls spam will be much less or maybe BP with random resistence between 1 and 5 but this BP shouldnt ask for more types of resouces. SEA- - More speed for ships when backwards. -Fix Grapplinghook ships (We shouldnt be able to grap an enamy ship if our ship have less weight than enamy ship). -Let us to be able to take parts from enamy ship or from our ship who got sunk planks/sails/deck.etc (More reasons to sail and have sea fights). -The resistence on ships should be limited at 300. -Let us to decide if our/any ally company can see our ships position on the sea (this is for sea fights). -Let us to be able to reset our points for ships same like our character. -We need large doors who can be used for Harbour entrance,in particular for Galleon. -The cannons placed on ships should do less damage to structures on land. -Will be nice notifications when an ally join in the grid so will not be neccesary everytime to asking in ally chat who joined. I can explain even better why i'm asking this changes if someone is really interested. Will be nice to see your opinions about this list @Dollie and @Jatheish and off course the opinions from our community. Ahoy Pathfinders, Thank you for tuning in to our Dev Livestream this week. In this pre-recorded announcement, we’ll be summarizing the new roadmap we discussed in the Livestream as well as clarifying a few things raised by the Community. First of all, for those who didn’t catch the Dev Livestream, it can be viewed here The primary purpose of this stream was to bring you up to speed on our new direction and let you know what areas of the game we’re going to address moving forward. We opted to answer many of your questions from our Livestream Q&A forum thread by working them into the conversation in the stream (rather than reading them out verbatim and answering each one) for the sake of flow and clarity. We recognize that this format didn’t translate as well as we’d hoped for, so we’ll be improving on the structure of our streams in the future. The Mega Update and Xbox Launch Let’s get straight to reiterating and clarifying details in regards to the next Mega Update/Xbox launch which is coming very soon. The Xbox launch will include: Crossplay support between PC Steam and Xbox players for ATLAS. Parity between both platforms. Xbox players won't have to wait for updates as they will happen simultaneously with PC We’ll be working on bringing day one Keyboard and Mouse support for the game, otherwise, it’ll arrive shortly thereafter. The Mega Update includes content and changes currently on the PTR, as well as some additional content we’ve discussed, and this will go live on our Official Network at the time of the Xbox Launch. We’re incredibly excited to launch crossplay; we designed the ATLAS engine for crossplay across all platforms from the outset and ATLAS will be one of the very few games with full crossplay between Steam and console. There have been many questions about whether this update will be bringing a wipe. To be frank, this is not something we’ve decided on yet. We’re currently exploring ways in which we can handle this release without wiping and there are quite a few technical considerations which may make this a possibility, but we’ll share more info with you as soon as we’re able to. Livestream Recap ATLAS’ DNA The first point we covered on stream was revealing where we think players spend most of their time in ATLAS, and where we wanted it to be at a 1.0 launch (post-Early Access). This is the conclusion we came to: Essentially, we feel like players are currently spending too much time in certain areas of the game, and not enough time in the areas we think should be the most fun, such as Sea and Combat. Players can expect to experience more fun and engaging content out on the sea, and a cut back on the time spent on land or with creatures. This doesn’t specifically mean we’ll be removing certain areas completely, but instead reworking existing systems and adding new gameplay/content for the areas we want to increase. Now you’re probably wondering, how do we plan to get from A to B? Well, here’s our roadmap: Some important factors to keep in mind: This roadmap will begin after the release of Xbox We’ll be looking primarily at making tweaks towards the Official Network and Multiplayer modes, but of course, those will still benefit our other game modes and unofficial networks. However, the main official networks are our priority Tackling bugs and major performance issues will always be an ongoing effort. This isn’t everything. We’ll be able to reveal more details as we go along, plans can change, and there are going to be more phases but for now, we want to discuss our immediate plans for developing ATLAS. Phase 1: Quality of Life Improvements, Bug Fixes, & Performance Increases Arguably our shortest phase and has already commenced in part with performance fixes and some bug fixes, with some work on the Xbox, and some you’ve experienced on the PTR. Our plan: There will be no new content with this initial phase. This is because we’re going to be spending time fixing and adjusting already existing systems in the game. This means tackling pain points that you (and we) are already aware of, ranging from quality of life changes, balance, and polish on existing parts of the game. Reducing the tedium and streamlining getting to the fun. We know that there are aspects of the game which are frustrating and the solutions we can take to fix them (such as the Silo we implemented in a previous update to help with feeding crew). We’re making some meaningful changes here that will impact the player’s experience in the game, some larger than others, but all with the same goal in mind to improve the overall game loop. Just a few of the changes and fixes (both small and big) we’re planning to make: Fixing speed sails and increasing overall wind speed effectiveness. Adjustments to blueprint stat rolls and crafting requirements. Making improvements to logs for companies. Increasing max stack sizes for certain items. Removing the negative effects of status effects, including vitamins. Giving players the option to choose which Kraken to fight. Reducing the frequency of surface attacks by sharks. Increasing the treasure map spoil time. Cargo Container adjustments. Replacing the text in the game with a universal font style. Hiding more text behind the “Extended UI” function Making ladders easier to climb. Keep in mind that some of these items are things we want to address quickly, even if we consider them to just be temporary fixes for now. The changes in this phase will provide a much better experience in the present; however, we’ll be circling back to these areas in later phases to make much more extensive changes to these systems. One example of this would be “sailing.” We’ll make some early improvements to sailing during Phase 1 (such as fixing speed sails and increasing overall wind speed) and then we’ll loop back to sailing during Phase 2 for a more thorough pass on sailing functionality. Some more examples like this include: Tames and breeding will get a general balance pass, then we’ll do a larger update on tames and creatures in Phase 4. Blueprint scaling will get some early adjustments in Phase 1, then we’ll address it some more in Phases 2 and 3. Temporary fixes for certain combat meta pain points (until they can be further ironed out in Phase 3) such as: stat scaling, torpor, NPC swivels, harpoons gliders. Phase 2: Seas, Ships, and Sailing Phase 2 is when we’ll start to reintroduce new content to the game. The general philosophy of this update will be: Ensuring that you all are spending more time having fun on ships and out at sea. Making the ocean feel less repetitive, more inviting, and more rewarding. We want ships to feel like homes! If players want to spend all their time at the sea, they should be able to play that way successfully. There are quite a few ways we’ll be doing this, but you can expect changes along these lines: Improvements to existing sailing and ship systems. Introducing more NPC encounters on the ocean (and different types too). Introducing more activities you can do on your ship. Exploring ways for players to store ships safely when going offline and taking a deeper look at overall travel times and ship functionality (such as sails/wind/cargo containers). These are just a few examples of what we’ll be tackling in Phase 2 and we expect that players will feel a welcome and marked difference in their experience out at the sea once these changes are made. Next, we’ll be covering Phases 3 and 4. Please keep in mind that a lot of the details in these phases are very early and we’re still figuring out our exact priorities, but there are a few things we’re relatively certain of and are exploring right now: Phase 3: Skills & Combat Here are some things we’re pretty confident we’ll be doing in some form: A skill tree rework. We’re interested in something more akin to specializations and roles to give more depth to the skill choices you make. Improvements to make combat feel more fluid and impactful. We want it to feel even more fun when you’re fighting! Changing the ship combat meta to embrace stronger piracy gameplay: A shift to a “boarding” combat meta. New incentives for choosing between sinking, pillaging, or outright stealing ships. Potentially adjusting the ship stealing process/claim time. Changes to encourage more fighting on ship decks. Phase 4: World, Claiming, and Tames/Creatures This phase is perhaps the largest section of our new roadmap. As the furthest phase out from right now, it is definitely the most subject to change over time, but we’d still like to share an overview of our current thoughts on these areas of the game. In this phase, we’ll be exploring various subjects such as: The world layout and network. Some of the points we’re currently exploring are a possible combined PvPvE network and different continental world layouts. Factions, which are very early in design right now, but are something that we’re very interested in from both a gameplay and a narrative perspective as a means of giving players across multiple companies shared goals. Adding more MMO-esque elements to the game such as more populated ports/towns, deeper in-game economies, additional storage options, etc. We’ll also be making some significant changes to the claiming system, adjusting how much of a role it has on the world and addressing some of its biggest problems such as “pillar spamming” and "honeycombing". Reducing the importance and role of tames and creatures in the game, as well as polishing other PvE content in the game such as Golden Age locations, boss fights, the Fountain of Youth, etc. We wanted to acknowledge the issues that we’ve identified in the game and outline our plans to address them. It’s important to note that this roadmap is not fully inclusive: we have a lot of other plans, content, and surprises in store for you all. We’ll be sharing more details with you as we go along and you can expect to see a more active presence from our team in regards to acknowledging the current issues with the game and discussing how we plan to address them. We hope that sharing our new roadmap and details on what’s coming soon for ATLAS (and also further down the road) offers a further “glimpse behind the dev curtain” so to speak. So I'm reading a thread on Atlas Reddit filled with all the cryin' souls that just watched the live stream. Blah, Blah, Yada, Yada, you know, same ol stuff different week. Regardless, I come across the following post .... "The stream was basic at best, and the reason again as i stated above is because Dollie and Jat came on to discord voice and gave us the details that should have been in stream not discord voice. Instead of answering questions about cosmetics they should have answered questions like Dollie and Jat did that the majority cared about." Easily raised my eyebrow and thought to myself "What the F#%k". Again .... per usual .... per GS historical norm .... there are information channels that seem to get treated substantially differently than others. If you are not in the right one, you are SOL. So I'm kinda pissy and my son comes in and says "What's up?" I explain to him the separation of information and he just nods and doesn't really say much (Usual response is "I can't believe your still playing that game."). However, on his way out he does say "Forums are for old people, dad." What? What does that even mean? Apparently the general consensus "IS" discord and twitter for gaming info .... at least in his world. So I thought about this as I really don't care for either to be honest, it does make sense. I see the live stream dev panel and I would call all of them young(er). An argument could be made about all info channels should receive the same information, but, I'm trying to stay away from that for the moment. I'm sure that is where this will devolve though. Secondarily, I do not know for certain if Jat and Dollie in discord voice even happened. Seeing as I am an old(er) person (50), my question is .... if you are reading this, are you an old person? Is this forum just filled with edgy curmudgeons shaking their walking sticks at the monitors?

This is pointing out that the current pvp system is not going to work for a few reasons. 1. The game is modeled so that the more players join up together, the more safe your things will be. While this concept is fun for some, ultimately with one persistent world, this concept will create a gap between players who's arent losing assets when they log off and ones who are losing most of their stuff after they log off. The best way to save your assets is to join the biggest group. Eventually everyone will choose to join the biggest group or quit playing. This will end all pvp, as eventually everyone left will be on the same side, and the gap between that company and new players will be impossible to bridge. 2. In game defences are helpful when players are online to defend, but are near useless when no actual players are online to defend the base. Which is good because if they could stop online players, not much raiding would happen after sufficient defences are put in place. For this to work however you must try to design it so that almost no offline raiding occurs. 3. Combat timers are an improvement over no protection at all, however this is still a flawed system for persistent world survival where most of your assets will be collected on islands with combat timers. 9 hours a day may sound reasonable, but it doesnt promote a healthy meta. It means that if anyone in the company is not able to be online for the 9 combat hours everyday, then they are leaving assets undefended. The more popular the game gets the luckier you are that assets left undefended are still there. If everyone in the company cannot be online for the 9 hours per day, then you aren't playing the meta, and a company who is closer to the meta of gameplay time will wipe you out. Here are my suggestions 1. Everyone comming together and forming a sort of player made government is a pattern that happens in most survival games, and also probably the main reason they get stale and the playerbase dies off. To fix this problem you need to be able to save loot as a smaller company, even in a populated world. A small personal non connected Freeport bank would go a long ways here. I suggest an npc at the Freeport, that says "I'll hold your stuff for you here" or something that will hold 10 slots or so for you for free, with no limitations on what you can store there, and no gold cost. Smaller companies and players that want to pvp but do need to log off would greatly appreciate this, and you'll find that just having the threat of being able to store an item somewhere that it cant be taken back, will make larger companies more willing to negotiate and trade with a small company that has just won a pvp engagement, rather than just start an endless raid, that eventually kicks that small company off the game, or makes them join with another larger company, which the more they join with larger companies the less likely pvp is to occur. 2. Like stated above defences are very helpful when your online defending, however if your not online, and it's not healthy to be online 9 hours per day everyday. These defences wont stop very much. The best solution to this problem is to make sure little to no offline raiding happens. You should look at cases where bases get raided with no defenders, as a failed pvp engagement. 3. This ties in a bit with problem 2. The combat timer is better than nothing. However it's not enough to stop offline raiding. My suggestion here is the combat timer should be removed, and the war system reworked a little bit. This is better for multiple reasons, one being that you dont HAVE to log in every single day to keep assets, since the war will be announced days in advance the defender has time to take appropriate action depending on who has declared war on them. War should work the following way. The attacker must have held an island for at least 5 days before having the ability to declare war on anyone. When the attacker places a war token on the defenders island, the attacker gets to choose the soonest time they want the war to start(within 2-3 days). Then the defender has 48 hours to log on and choose what time after the attackers chosen time to start the war. The defenders also get to choose which of the attackers islands will be vaunerable for the duration of the war. If the defender does not log on the war starts after the 48 hour period or the soonest the attackers set it to start. When the agreed upon time is up, both islands become vaunerable for 24 hours OR until one of the islands are taken. When an island is taken all of the structure transfers ownership to the new owners, this leaves an island that's even had its loot cleaned out with some value, a point to take it, and solves all foundation spam issues. Also gives the new owners the choice, to use the old fort or scrap it and make a better one. Also a side note, shops and the player trading system would work much better with no combat timer! This would be much better than the current system of the combat timer, since with a combat timer the problem still exists that the only way to save your assets is to be a bigger group of players than your enemies, instead it should be a world that companies big and small could exists in and have fun pvp engagements. I love atlas, and hope for more fun pirate adventures, please consider a model for the rules that isn't doomed to fail based on how it stomps out all attempts to actually pvp, and remember that forcing players to log on to defend their assets, is usually not a fun experience, and if everyone has bad experiences, your game cant get popular.

I very much understand what you are saying I am old like you in my 50's and I utterly despise Discord!!! I hate that so many of the younger gaming generation is like discord this and discord that the program really sucks its a resource hog with tons of bells and whistles that for me are just useless.... But then again I think a phone is for Phone calls and grit and growl my teeth at the Zombie generation staring at their Cell "phones" I despise consoles and the need for cross play when all it does is keep the PC version from being great because they have to dumb it down for a console! I don't even use Anti Virus's anymore because you can't find one that's simply an anti virus! I prefer Team Speak because it uses very little resources and its easy to communicate via voice without all the other chat channels, beeps and alerts about some cool edgy meme that people have to thumbs up or down, or the silly discord channel applications that do this and that.... blah blah blah.... Yes I am old "A damned retired Network Engineer" with a degree in Software engineering and I find myself despising technology! What was so bad about swiping the damned debit card it was faster and simpler than this freaking insert the card and wait bs at the grocery store!!! Or the Cell Phone digital coupon trend that just irritates me to no end! But yes I wish the proper tools were used for the proper jobs! A voice app like Teamspeak for Voice! An anti virus for you know protecting your computer from virus! And a Phone for making phone calls etc etc... Just sick of these let's put 8 jobs on one thing that only does one of those jobs well and the other 7 lackluster!

At the current rate of stupid behavior there will be none of the old megas left... everyone of them since the stream is quitting or going postal, mostly both... because they were expecting a wipe... think about it, they wanted a wipe now and had to expect another one with XBOX, so in 3 months again... now with Dollies post about the stream it more looks like that the next wipe will be way past the XBOX release... so we are a looking at 5 months since last wipe and 3 months till possible next wipe, but maybe up to 6 months when they start changes (like the balancing of the BP system, which requires getting rid of the old BP stuff, but maybe they just remove them without wipe like the last time)... so we are 2/3 to 1/2 way through this season and people quitting because it is 'not worth it' playing for many many more months... Also I getting more and more the impression that they actually will not wipe for XBOX... and why should they... wipe is only useful for the lag fest people that get in the first day... everyone that buys the game even a week after will be behind anyway... or are we so entitled already that everyone who buys a this type of MMO gets a wipe of everyone else when he first locks in ?!?! If they make a wipe, what will happen is, that the PC players will make the gold rush knowing what they are doing, leaving any XBOX player in the dust... when the first XBOX reach a claimable island the will be greeted by brigs already... If they don't wipe and the first XBOX player gets on, he will be greeted in Freeport by the PC players looking for new members or settlers, helping them out just to get fresh blood...

I learned many years ago to eat in a busy restaurant not an empty one. If certain areas of your game are getting more play or attention then they are the areas you should be expanding on, not the areas that are less used. People aren't mice to be led this way then that way at your bidding, and even though I enjoy your game as many others do If I felt that I was being forced down a path I didn't like then i'd stop playing. I play pve only on atlas and if you enforced pvp on me i'd quit. And i'm sure i'm not the only one. As they say there are many more fish in the sea. I understand you as the devs have suffered an undeserved barrage of toxicity which has been unfair. But if my perceptions are right about certain areas of the game you are thinking of changing, then i'd say you should seriously consider again. I genuinely hope your game succeeds on any and every platform and wish you great future success. But please don't forget the people who first backed Atlas and still do, regardless of any negativity surrounding it.

Being off work hours is not an excuse when your job is to communicate. If you are communicating to your players then you are working, it is irrelevant what time it is. You was not working so it did not count? Really? The reason everyone is upset is that a Q&A session interacting with the devs is what twitch chat livestreams are for. The fact that you think you had to go to discord to talk to people is what is wrong - that is what is supposed to have been done in the livestream. We should not have got prerecorded half hour of pitch slides Next time do it live half hour of slides then take actual questions about the presentation. I challenge you to go to the Q&A thread and document how each question was answered on the live stream. But cat whiskers and side jokes about hats? Really?

Perception and perspective. I'm not irate, up in arms, or even more than slightly worked up over all this stuff, and I think Jat and Dollie are trying very hard to do this right, but I also think there are some perspective points that get missed. Sure, it's part of the job if you see 100 people in discord voice chat getting worked up over something to go in there and try to address it. But it's easy to get caught up in the moment and lose perspective. What's the correct answer to 100 people in discord upset about a wipe? This is just my opinion, but if you understand first that it's NOT just 100 upset players on discord, it's everyone, what needs to be done is to tell those discord players you understand that everybody wants more information on this, and you are going to get with your team, draft a statement, and post it on the forums by the end of the day, and then do that. The discord group gets shown some respect, they get told an answer is coming and where to find it, and the situation has been de-escalated. If you let a highly emotional group of people wind you up so that you begin shooting from the hip trying to make them happy, the results won't be great. Here's where I think the discord respnse fell down and needs improvement: We've had the same brouhaha about wipes here on the forums for a couple weeks now, with various regular participants posting with great surety and authority that there will , of course, be a wipe with crossplay, even if it's not technically needed, because the servers must be clean for the new players. It's ridiculous, but even so, it's discouraging new players, and causing existing players to talk about leaving, to put off starting big projects in the game, etc. It may appear to lack the urgency and emotional level of what happened in discord because the forums work at a slower speed over a greater amount of time. (Which is where my comments are coming from about letting the emotional level of the players dictate your responses above ) Yet with the forum threads, no one thought "I MUST GO TO MY PEOPLE", and ran in here to correct those opinions. Apparently the forum people are not "the people". Even so, you should know this is a universal concern and it should be handled universally and centrally, rather than rushing in specially on a day off to handle the concerns of one group, after ignoring another for weeks. There may also be other places where this issue has been a big topic, and if so, I'm sure those players would like to see it addressed as well. It's not easy having many official venues of communication and trying to keep a rambunctious player base happy on all of them without showing favoritism. Again, just my opinion, but I'd use the social media sites for "personality" appearances, light game chat, and the opportunity to point to officially released statements on the website, and I'd use the official website for statements of concern to everyone, and the heavier game issues. The website crawler that sometimes gets used at the top for breaking news is a great addition. It's good that the twitter feed is on the main page of the wiki, but that should also be on the main website page, taking the place of the oldest captain's log there or something else that's not really needed. just my .02

OMG yes !!!!! A thousand yesses !!!! It would be amazing knowing someone from the "team" read my post that I (usually) try to craft with care so that no stone is left unturned and no detail that isn't clear. If it isn't MY post but one that I'm discussing and a thread that I'm following, I still would feel great knowing that the text we're so passionate about writing and the topic we're trying to address hasn't fallen on "deaf" eyes. Thank you for your communication here in this thread, and I'm looking forward to more!

Let's clear a few things up. The voice chat occurred on our 50k member Official ATLAS Discord, not in a private Discord or channel. It was within an hour of the stream ending, spontaneous on my behalf (and on my own time outside of work hours) as I was aware of some confusion and lot of questions in relation to the stream. I saw 100 or so people gathered in voice, asked another colleague if he would join with me to moderate whilst I spoke, shouted "I MUST GO TO MY PEOPLE" at him and joined the channel to talk with players. I love talking with our players and wanted to address their concerns and reassure them, and, going on the comments and messages I received, they were very happy also. Jat joined later once he was able, to predominantly, listen in and get a read on player's concerns with me. During that time, approximately 300 or so people filtered in and out to ask questions and listen in. I spent about an hour and a half with them. It seems a player joined about half way through and broadcast some of the conversation on his stream unbeknowst to me at the time. I would like to reiterate that this voice conversation was not planned, it was held on our public and Official Discord, and it was done of my own volition and on my own time. This spontaneous talk led to Jat and I sitting down together yesterday and using information gathered from the voice chat to write up the Recap you can find here in order to address player's concerns and questions on a wider scope and to a broader audience to make sure no one missed out. The voice chat directly facilitated being better able to identify where players wanted clarity on the Stream and, in my humble opinion, improved the quality of the Recap post. I apologise if my response here may be a little blunt. It's quite disheartening to see some of the responses in this thread. Could we communicate more on these forums? I don't think there's such a thing as too much communication across any of our official channels. Now the Roadmap is out to the community and Xbox has been announced we can be more forthcoming and responsive after a month or so of less direct activity in regards to Captain's Logs, posting in threads, posting on Discord etc. I understand some of you don't want to join the Official Discord and I'll remain aware of that and dilligent in cross-posting anything relevant here also. As always, we'll continue to share info and respond to players across all of our Official channels: these Forums, ATLAS Discord and Twitter.

Cleaning is not a solution ... in a moment in the future we will be exactly where we are today, what they have to do is add MECHANICS and give a meaning to the game

The brand name of the electric knife that Frank brandishes at the dinner scene is Hamilton Beech. The line we always yelled out at the theater was (yelled at max volume and cattle auctioneer speed): ALWAYS REACH FOR YOUR HAMILTON BEECHES IT SLICES. IT DICES. IT @#$&es JANET WEISSES. CIRCUMCISES, SODOMIZES, LOBOTOMIZES GUARANTEED NOT TO RUST, BUST OR COLLECT DUST AND DAAAMN CAN IT CATCH FISH! Ah those were the days....

Sure there's doubt. I have doubt. Other people have doubt. If there is a technical reason that they must wipe, then they should do that. (And if there is, then it will be interesting to see the reaction when single player gets drawn into that) If there is no technical reason, then they should not. Alla yous who keep going around saying that of course this will happen, ought to stop doing that, because for some players, that makes it as good as done, and they leave. That's not a good thing. The statements above are logical, and given some of the earlier GS decisions, they may not follow logic. (Anyone remember the great idea of land owners being able to wipe the entire island?) Still, hope springs eternal.

Hey pal, Grapeshot stated that Atlas is meant to be played by solo, small, on up to mega-companies. They claimed that they were taking special precautions to ensure that Atlas would be available to all aspects of gameplay mode and this includes CASUAL play, you pompous arse. What makes you think that YOU get the right to decide how this game should be played? The fact is simple, the devs are currently trying to make Atlas work for all playstyles and this might very well include offline raid protection flagging. Who knows, as they are still working out their ultimate solutions, you know, early access and all...

Is there a way to unseat all crew on a ship and a way to reseat them all. It gets annoying to change this every time i park for the night
  26. 1 point
Better yet, why should it cost nearly twice as much to have an NPC on a cannon when the ship is anchored? The rates of all crew should go down to one low level when anchored, then we wouldn't have to keep doing the unseat/reseat all the time. It is especially annoying in that sometimes my crew ends up off in the water the next day when it is unseated.

Ahoy Pathfinders! This Captain’s Log will cover news related to Blackwood, our upcoming Dev Livestream, the PTR and an introduction from our new Lead Designer! Let’s get right to it! Designer Diary My name is Erik Waananen and I’m thrilled to be joining you today as ATLAS’ new Lead Designer. It’s my pleasure not only to formally introduce myself but also to give you an update on what’s coming next for the game. So let’s dive right in, shall we? ATLAS is an incredible world full of action, adventure, discovery, and community. And while a number of you are enjoying yourselves in-game, I think we can all agree that ATLAS has somewhat struggled to “find its sea legs” since its initial Early Access launch in December. My job will be to help the game get its bearings and -- together with the rest of the dev team -- work with a singular mission in mind: Make ATLAS the ultimate pirate experience. Achieving this goal will be no small task. We have a lot of work to do and it’s going to take a good deal of time and effort to accomplish it. But we will get there, especially with your continued feedback and support. Your constructive thoughts and criticism are all extremely helpful to us, so please keep them coming. I’d like to announce that we’ll be hosting a very important developer stream next week on Wednesday, August 28th at 2:00 pm PDT. The main focus of this stream will be the reveal of an entirely new roadmap for ATLAS. We’ll also be addressing a number of the community’s questions and concerns about the current state of the game. I don’t want to spoil anything for you just yet, but suffice it to say there’s a big “change in the wind” coming to ATLAS and you definitely won’t want to miss it. Sorry to keep you all waiting a bit longer, but I promise we’ll provide more details and answers soon. Until then, keep a weather eye on the horizon and we’ll see you on Wednesday! Erik Waananen Lead Game Designer, ATLAS Blackwood Update The ancient serpentine boss, Anacthyon, is poised to slither onto the Blackwood variation of the ATLAS with today’s update. Along with this new boss, Blackwood includes: The full ATLAS experience (including all your favorite features and mechanics) merged into a single 1x1 server grid. 7 unique biomes across 11 islands, from hazy bogs teeming with life to mysterious jungles full of danger and toil. Resource-rich islands complete with every material from the core game. New cities and outlying areas ideal for roleplaying and server events. A beautiful mermaid city ripe for exploration. A new boss arena featuring unpredictable enemy types and spawn locations. The Forbidden Reach: a hard mode island featuring elemental beings. Other iconic ATLAS content, such as Army of the Damned mobs, all 9 Power Stone locations, the Fountain of Youth, your favorite tameable creatures, and much more... Blackwood is free for anyone who already owns ATLAS. It is available for play in Singleplayer mode, Non-Dedicated Server mode, and on Unofficial Servers that opt to host the map. Livestream Q&A Thread With the Dev LiveStream drawing closer, we’d like to take this opportunity to remind you that we have an official “Livestream Q&A” thread running to help us collect your questions regarding the things you care about and answer some of them on-stream. There have been some great questions submitted thus far, so please keep them coming! Public Test Realm If you haven’t checked out the PTR and some of the changes which will be coming in the next Mega Patch, it is still available for players for a limited time. Thank you to those of you who have been running the PTR through its paces and helping us identify bugs and issues along with giving feedback. The PTR includes: Alternative map layout (note: we've not yet determined whether this layout will make it to the current existing official servers) In-game voice chat Updated Waveworks (Ocean - including the waves, and performance changes for server and client) Sail Cosmetic (Available at Freeport Vendors) Hydra Revolver (Available at Freeport Vendors) Miscellaneous client and server-side performance improvements Info on joining the PTR can be found here Live Game Patches v218.27 - Fixed a bug that allowed players to gain massive height when running into the corner of a raft or dinghy - Fixed a bug that allowed players to gain massive height when climbing really tall ladder set ups - Fixed a bug which allowed players to base on top of submarines - Fixed a bug which allowed seated npcs to shoot puckles through walls - Ended 2x Magic Mythos Event v218.25 - Enabled 2x Harvesting, Taming, XP, and Gold on our Official Network - Fixed rope ladders so that they can now be rotated when placed on wooden catwalks - Fixed 2-handed weapons able to used interchangeably, bypassing the weapon equipment timer using the Q hotkey. - Fixed a bug where critical strike could be used with other weapons by removing the buff if you switch to a different weapon. - Fixed a bug where projectile mesh wasn't showing correctly for singleplayer. - Fixed a bug which would cause players to throw out their gear by accident at low server fps when using "O" instead of "E" to unequip currently equipped gear. - Fixed a bug which allowed diving platform to be placed on top of a cargo rack. Credit to globytheoldpirate That's it for this Captain's Log. We look forward to communicating what we've been up to (and what we plan to get up to) in the Livestream!
