This week, we announced that changes were coming to claim flags which would limit how high they could be placed in the world. We recognize that there is currently a problem with some claim flags being relatively impossible to capture due to being placed inside “pillar bases” located at extremely high elevations. However, based on the feedback we've received from the community and after considering our future roadmap plans, we have decided not to enact this change. As a result, the recent height limits for claim flags have been reverted and existing claim flags will not have to be relocated within a month's time. I’d like to briefly provide some extra context on why we planned to make this change and why we're rolling it back now. To clarify, the dev team does believe that high elevation claim flags and "pillar bases" are a legitimate problem in the game right now. No land base should feel impregnable or unraidable simply because it's "too far out of reach" to attack effectively. It goes against the spirit of PvP. Our hope with this change was to make it so that all land bases could feel like viable raid targets. That said, we also understand the desire for players (and especially smaller companies) to keep their stuff safe. However, we feel that it's in the best interest of the game to save changes of this nature for the later phases of our roadmap. To reiterate: We will be reverting the height limit for claim flags that we pushed out this week. We will not be asking companies to relocate their claim flags any longer. We will continue to explore ways outside of claiming and height to address problems with pillar bases down the road. Thank you, as always, for your feedback on this and other matters. If you have any personal thoughts on claim flag heights or pillar bases, we’d love to hear them in the comments below. I can't tell you how excited we are for ATLAS' future beyond our Xbox launch and we can't wait to reveal everything that we have in store for you when the time is right. Until then, thank you for your continued support and we'll see you all in-game.

Hello, I run a merchant guild on the official pvp servers on krakens grasp. I just want to say a few things real quick and maybe someone from grapeshot will see this, and hopefully it gives some insight. I do not think that there needs to be much done in the way of hurting pillar bases on high elevations, already I know a lot of people don't like me for that, however this is why I say that. There is still absolutely nothing stopping them from leaving their ships and beginning a land assault, it is a perfectly viable and definitely functional strategy to build forward operating bases and blast your way up the mountain you are attacking with artillery, yes it's time consuming, yes it's a little expensive depending on how big your faction is, but it is perfectly doable and it's able to be done in roughly 6 hours playtime. The only reason I believe people are complaining about pillar bases is because a single person can't run over and wipe out a tribe of 100 plus people and all their progress they have spent months working towards in a matter of minutes. And I do not think that game play style should be promoted. If this game is turned into a game where a solo player can spend 2 hours and wipe out a base that is the product of months of hard work from many people, then the remaining player base will likely die off even more. It's no secret that compared to release this game has already lost tons of it's players due to that exact playstyle as many uneducated players fall victim to it. Now I will say if a group knows exactly what they are doing on base defense and if they are actually online and defending it then yes those bases are extremely hard to take, and I feel that's how it should be, nothing's impossible. A handful of grenades can in the blink of an eye lay waste to months of work and cripple a base, dozens of people rushing a base can make the defenses spend tons of ammo until they are deleted, a few tortugars can shrug off an entire base Worth's of defense long enough to get a bunch of people into a vulnerable position to take the base. I believe people need to use their brains more, and stop asking everything to be handed to them just so they can focus entirely on ruining the game for others, because all the people complaining are only focused on just that. They don't care about the thrill of pvp, if they did you'd see people building fighting arenas and duking it out, you'd see people having friendly battles to see who's the better sailor, but none of that happens, and players very very rarely even attack when someone is defending. All they want is the ability to completely wipe a base while the tribe is offline and defenseless

I would like to see occasional spawns of something valuable, but its position given on the global map, then people have chance to get there and fight over it. Just a place marked with high chance of ship combat. Hell I would love to see a sailing arena. To just roll up in a ship and enter then have fun ship fighting. Could be some sort of prize for the winner

Forget the flag system nobody cares we need ways to DEFEND OUR FLAGS/BASES. This has been a massive problem since Ark day 1 and you guys CBA fixing this simple problem that makes it way to easy to offline raid I work FFS I can't defend 9 hours every night. And no no I don't want to play unofficial or PVE. unofficial is glitchy AF and PVE is boring AF

It should be about competence, effort And skill,i totally agree, but i think the 60CB were just too much, while gaining "power" through Equipment is a core Part of the Game it shouldn't overcome or replace skill but it felt that way. It should be a good mix of skill competence And effort.

"We will continue to explore ways outside of claiming and height to address problems with pillar bases down the road." I know what you ex ARK wildcard guys are thinking: Air ships. More Flying mounts. Magic. No. No. and No. Grow a pair, and just keep the flag changes that you feel are best for the game. Second time now you guys have added this change, then reverted it right after. It should of been done @ start of season 3, but for what ever reason it didnt happen. Revert the revert!!! Let PvP happen.

get rid of the flags, just use the tax bank as an up-gradable structure. More HP more cost etc. blow up the bank to declaim, build a new one to claim.

That is my point too. It is about player competence. No matter what other restrictions devs will implement, they cannot make someone a better player if he has no will to become one. The sad truth is that a lot of players disregard basic info, patch notes etc. They just don't care. They want all getting served to them now and on silver plate. Well, its not working like that.

That is what makes games like this great. We build the story. The players. Sure there is a back drop. A history and maybe some ongoing story to it designed by the devs, but the main story is the one we write. These guys need to take a lesson from Eve in that regard. PvP servers are littered with amazing building projects, logistics, death, destruction, victory and defeat. Alliances form, they crumble, they reorganize and rebuild former glory. Many of these things happen in smaller sections of the overall world of Atlas and all of them build a picture. Want to pull more people in this is the story that needs to be told.

I always run 100 INT (which is base) and every single map I pickup has a higher quality rating then what was shown by looking at it.
  20. 1 point
And it also raises the quality of maps when you pick them up. That is confirmed now

Not playing anymore, but logged 3k+ hours solo on PvP server from the start. Always on Lawless. The simple fact of the matter is you are thinking about this all wrong. 50 Large walls, 10 layers of honey combed stone wall, multi level stone ceilings with ramps packed into it doesn't mean shit. If they find it you will get cleaned out .... plain and simple. You need to be invisible. Find a somewhat thick forest and look for tightly packed tree tops. Once you find one experiment with chopping down a tree and replacing the trunk with "WOOD" pillars. Go up a few and build a small enclosed box. Wait ...... After the tree respawns take a look at what you have as far as visibility. Can you expand the size? Can you add a level? Regardless, the point is invisible and I've had small bases that would probably still be there if it were not for decay. Always have a grappling hook and secret spots with just a cabinet and gear inside. Think small and live small. Another good place is an under water base. Level everything you can in swimming and oxygen. Just have your shipyard and crafting stations not too far off. Stations completely open or someone will break into the building. Can always build a fake base by the shipyard that will keep the lazy content when your offline. That or a base that has already been cleaned out (missing walls). Protip: Set a chair in your underwater base. Sit, stand up, sit, stand up, sit stand up, sit stand up .... eventually this will replace your oxygen supply (as silly as that sounds) could have been nerfed by now though. Underwater keeps more valuable stuff safe. Can put crafting stations in there as well. Hell, I was at a point where if I got wiped the only inconvenience was resetting everything as I had multiple bases already built and in a storage cabinet underwater. including Everything to build multiple new schooners as needed. Had a lot of luck building on a platform located under an arch at the top of trees. Have one spot that is virtually invisible, just a pain to get to. Eventually dropped a roll up ladder that concealed itself with tree trunks pretty well. Tames take a lot of space. They are like an advertisement for where you are at. Never could keep a tame alive very long so I always ground out mats. I know this is bad form and borderline glitching but break a large rock and set a cabinet. When it respawns see what it looks like and break again if needed. Schooner with 250 into resistance can last around 30 hours at freeport (unless they nerfed that), if your in lawless a freeport is close. Nothing groundbreaking here. Solo is rough in Atlas, but, it seems you already know that. If they find it, it is gone. Key to not rage quitting is to be able to rebuild very easily if they do find it. I hated it, but can always go cold too. Far north and south have a lot less players. ALOT. Didn't read the whole thread and some/most of this could already have been mentioned ... gl.

The 123 function was introduced by Steam as an anti-stalking and domestic violence feature. People were being tracked down and harassed by various exes and people with bad intentions. It of course was immediately abused as a workaround to hiding your identity in several online games. One step forward, two back sort of thing.

Those player screenshots are amazing! The first one is my favourite. It looks dynamic and powerful. Gotta love Dollie's artwork as well though, that will be hanging in a museum one day. And I am very much looking forward to the phase one changes. Batching them together will give me lots to test and play around with at a time.

It shouldn't take 12 hours to steal a schooner when you can farm one in 2 hours without tames and the bottom skill in the piracy tree, What's Yours is mine, costs way too much considering it effectively does nothing. The description for WYIM is honestly the most misleading thing I have ever read and I have read a lot of dumb stuff in my life.Oh and BTW it takes like half an hour at most to sink that schooner as a naked with nothing crafting flame arrows, so that's really the only viable option, other than just straight blowing it to pieces.

Please add "Use Crows Nest". Where the npc crew will man the closest sails crows nest and raise an alarm if they see anything. i.e like arks parasuar. Perhaps allow them to equip a spyglass for extra range. A useful message like flotsam sighted, whale sighted would be good.

I had an idea of doing a hot zone for Power Stone locations. Every 2 hours it switches randomly do another PS zone. During this time all mob drops increase and a small uptick of RARE drops is introduced. Those drops can be high end BP's and/or high end gear like carbines, cannons, etc. This will promote people to come into contact and duke it out. Also adding locations that you can capture and go active once every 24 hours that mine rare mats would be cool as well.

They said that we would not see changes until after they launch crossplay and they haven't launched it yet so, why do you think you should be seeing what they already said you would not be seeing just three weeks later? hehe
  28. 1 point
3 Weeks since this roadmap came on, but we see no changes whatsoever. Is it safe to say we need to come back in 2 years? Or do we need to wait with 100% ARKlogic in the back of our heads (back each 3 months to see nothing much has changed, wait for the next 3 months and "hope" for the best?). We had such good hopes, it still feels like cash and grab....

I kind of think this is a perfect example of why the game is struggling. This is basic information that should be readily available on the wiki or somewhere and should be explained by the developer not not left to back of napkin mathematics by fans who ultimately end up contradicting each other and not providing a definitive answer, not to mention having to sift through forums to find the relevant conversation.

Sorry mate you are wrong. You have merely chosen the wrong unofficials. The server I am on is stable with a very active admin who runs a fair and equitable community and has run Ark servers (and other games) for three years. Have fun.

I’ll pretend that I understood something you typed. But that’s everyone’s own opinion. I can only speak for me and my friends and that is that we’re having an absolute blast.
