So your suggestion is that for sake of increasing overall player count on a grid, you want to force pve players into a choice between participating in a play style they have declined prior OR stay within a small portion of the entire map? And pay folks to obtain things for them outside of this zone? I have one question about your proposal: Whats in this for pve players? Because as you’ve described it, it looks like the answer is nothing.
  2. 5 points
Force PVE Players into PVP will only make them quit. If i want to PVP i will join PVP-Server instead of PVE.
  3. 4 points
Umm, exercise a little common sense. Pve players will stay in the pve area. PvP players will overwhelmingly stay in the pvp area in order to pvp. Thus while you SAY pve players will have more players to play with, the obvious and predictable outcome would be each group mostly sticking to their designated areas, resulting in a massive loss of effective game space for pve players in exchange for no meaningful benefit they want. Try again, your suggestion has zero merit for pve.
  4. 4 points
They quit because the game's PvP format is just bad. We have plenty of people to play with on PvE so nothing to gain. People are quitting because of low Pop on PvE? Where are you getting your information from? We have people on break cause there's no content cause the dev's spend too much time dealing with all the cheaters and exploiters on PvP. ~Lotus

Think I might make a character on the PvP server.... will make a base that is nothing but a solid mass of stone foundations 10x10x3 with a 1x1 room in the middle that contains nothing but a sign saying “you win” on it....
  6. 3 points
Doesn't work for me cause I don't want to deal with the cheaters. So maybe a character reset to level 1 when they come in then... maybe. ~Lotus

I think your suggestion is hilarious. Your server pop is too low so you want to merge servers, but you don't want to merge with the other pvp server, you want the pve players to all play pvp instead. So, ok.. what if they merged the pve and pvp servers, and the pve people got the whole map with pvp being given 4 zones down in the SE corner. And you can only craft things in pve, because pvp isn't about crafting, If you have a base in the pvp zone, you cannot enter the pve zones without killing 3 whales, 20 Std, and the Kraken each time, and you can only stay for 2 hours. Oh, and you're only allowed 3 chat lines per visit. That seems like it might work.

Merge them and lose the PVE players. Just because PVP is going it's normal route of twitchy, angst-filled twats getting bored and leaving when they have no one to offline raid or grief does not make taking one playerbase that has made an active choice to avoid those mechanics a winning solution. It amazes me that game developers keep falling for the chest thumpers claims of huge populations that would make them rich, rich, rich if they would only listen to them and go full loot pvp anytime kills. Most of them are now looking for jobs since those games have folded or are in the process.

According to the forums people quit because of cheaters more than it's boring. So I proposed this a while ago and people thought it was stupid but I will throw the idea out there again. I believe that PvP should have the safe zone thing all the time. Your island will be paid for with badges instead of gold. The badges are earned through going into a battleground or arena and fighting other teams. You pay gold to enter into the arena and can basically play until you lose. The gear/boat you bring in will not come back out though it's play till you die. So you can queue up things like a 1v1 schooner or 2 schooners, 2 brigs, and a galley vs an equal team or whatever. This would bring new life into the sea combat without it being a random thing it's now basically forced. You could also have some ground fights with tames or whatever just queue up and fight for badges. You earn your badges and pay for your flag if your flag runs out of badges your island unclaims and somebody with badges can take it. You would also give badges a spoil time so people can't just amass them. That way people have PvP when they want it no offline crap no stupid sieges. No more oh they have more people. ~Lotus

Here is an idea why can we not have an endgame item called a tavern make it massive so it takes up a lot of space very expensive to craft and what this thing does is it feeds all the npcs on the island so it lowers clutter of food larders EVERYWHERE now its just 1 item feeding all of the npcs on the island and if you want make it so people can customize it for the PVE players. Also while im at it why not make it so the flag pays all of the npcs on the island and npcs of docked boats, this makes it so everyone stores all of their gold on the flag and an incentive for players to conquer said flag for the gain of the gold inside of it. These 2 updates will improve the QOL of the game so much its worth looking into, nobody wants to go around filling 30 chests with gold and food with 10 fps small updates like these will bring players back, please please please consider it.

I only read the initial post on this topic. All I have to say is that a PVP/PVE server is an absolutely horribad idea! We have all played many many online games that know how to balance PVE and PVP, whether they do it on the same server or with separate servers. Instead of trying to force PVP and PVE players onto the same server to artificially increase player base numbers, how about improving the quality of game play in both the PVP and PVE communities so that gamers actually want to play your game. I know that many of you were raised with the same work ethic that I was; if you're going to do a job, do it right. Don't half a$$ it. I never like to overly criticize people because I feel on some level, people, like our Devs, are trying to do a good job. But, how many people playing this game actually feel that they are doing their "Best"?! Game bugs and glitches exist in this game that have existed since the beginning of the ARK days and still haven't been addressed. Some politely reported and some bitched about since the Day 1 release of Atlas. After approximately 17 years of playing online games of all kinds, I honestly feel like this is one of the worst Dev teams that I have dealt with. Obviously very intelligent people, but horrible at communicating with their player base and horrible at addressing issues with their game, even though most of them are glaringly obvious. My recommendation to them is to slow down, take a breath, address some of the most glaring issues with their game, make it more playable and likable by the existing player base that has stuck with you up to this point. They are obviously the online gamers that like this gaming concept and want this game to succeed. Okay trolls, have at it.

Megas vs Megas but it turns into a huge alliance vs alliance thing but they just cheat and then it's who is better at cheating. ~Lotus
  15. 2 points
You have something you can do to fight back as a small company... join or become a bigger company From my experience on PvP unless you really make somebody mad with good defenses you become a target that is effort vs reward. Megas will hit you once if they don't get anything good they will leave you alone when you rebuild. You do need to have a good relationship with the local megas and get on their do not hit list though. ~Lotus

Why would they add a penalty for grouping? It's an MMO -_- ~Lotus

For PvP not for PvE. PvE would stay gold. PvP is supposed to be about ship vs ship combat and such. It's basically a bunch of hackers cheating to kill each other though. ~Lotus

I rather have factions in PvE like Damned invading islands and then an empire faction we are sided with to go fight them off and that would be dailies and the damned would rotate and so you could have hot spots like the invasions in WoW. ~Lotus

Eve was a play time = advantage though like the skills and stuff were time gated which was a way to milk money to me which is why I only played it for a month. It was just bad ~Lotus

This. For 15 years I have listened to a certain kind of pvp player endlessly deride, insult, abuse, talk down to and dismiss pve players in chest thumping excesses of thinly disguised gamer snobbery (and make no mistake snobbery is exactly what it is because when you peel all the bs away what is left is a core attitude of “I am better than you because of the way I choose to play.”) The irony of this epeen bravado is that all available empirical data suggests strongly that without pve players to support the MMO’s these coxcombs are playing, the games would soon fold. Let me provide for you a list of all the long term successful games that can reasonably be considered of the same genre as Atlas in which pvp players do not represent a minority of the playerbase: Eve. And that’s it.

Or I can play PvE and not deal with it. Atlas falls into 2 of the types of PvP games I won't play. Atlas is a time invested = advantage type game. There's no problem with that but it's not the type of game I would play. I prefer to start a match on equal footing then have a match of skill not oh you have 40 levels on me so I have a disadvantage. The other type of PvP game I won't play is one where cheaters are not punished severely. I understand that not everybody is going to be good and they don't like the way that makes them look. So they download hacks or use exploits to get an advantage because they want to be able to win. To me that is pathetic but what I was taught as right and wrong as a child is not what others were taught. Where I draw the line is that the players were not permabanned. Recently they had the exp execution glitch that was abused a lot. I' heard some players went from 50 to 100+ in about 2 hours. The response was to lower people to 100. That is still a free 50 levels. Not interested. Things I don't like but accept are that there's caps on how big a tribe can be. If a group wants to be 1500 members and a bunch of 20 man tribes want to ally and fight of the evil empire hell yeah that is exciting. I also don't like how sluggish combat is in this game it's really low APM stuff. A group of us went to PvP after we ran out of content and it was fun for some of us but the majority didn't like it and just went back to PvE. ~Lotus

Hey people this is just a view, but here goes.Me and another player started a company together on eu puplic pve(his idea to merge, not mine)and he also didn't want to be owner. So we start a company and a few pple join etc,but me and this guy who is admin have never had the same outlook on playing. So obviously we disagree.Maybe cos im old and cant be bothered but when i fall out about something i don't go around bad mouthing the other party to anyone who will listen.Unfortunately for me not all people are equal in this.Anyway things have come to a head and he now wants to leave,I said he didn't have to but he wants to.Problem is hes threatened to badmouth me to everyone(very petty)but anyway I have no way of giving him all his stuff back, and I seriously don't want it.Now that is in my opinion gonna lead to resentment against me,when I don't even want his stuff.Isn't it time there was a way of parting amicably in this game?because this puts me off of companies alltogether. There must be a mechanic that can be implemented so that both parties can walk away unscathed,an in doing so less affected and inclined to give up.I'd like to hear what other pple think on this.many thanks for your time

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_mechanics This is a common concept that can be seen in games everywhere. MTG - more powerful cards cost more mana ^This is a blueprint costing more. Diablo (all) - better gear is obtained with more time invested ^This is you farming blueprints. Holy trinity of MMO - DD>Support>Tank>DD ^ what? PUBG (Shooters) - Sniper hits harder, fires slower. AR fires faster, hits weaker ^galley vs schooner Civilizations - Bigger army takes a lot more gold and time to manage, less progress in other areas. Smaller army grants more flexibility in religion/science etc. ^the civ with a bigger army (mega) normally captures the city states (small tribes) in a few turns. The upkeep for the bigger army is maintenance so it's already baked in. Divinity Original Sin 2 - Magic users are weaker to physical mobs, Physical users are weaker to magic mobs. ^I played a necromancer and had high damage, phys, magic resist. My brother made a type of paladin and was basically unkillable. On and on and on I could go. There should always be a trade off when making a play style decision in a game. ^There is if you are in a small tribe you will die to a larger tribe if you can't beat them with skill. ~Lotus

There's games that have this concept and they are pretty bad IMO. This is why I don't play them. A thick base will prevent you from being wiped most of the time. If they made a colonies server with the caps of empires I think it would have been better. The problem empires had when it was the old claim system which was super flawed. PvE has cheaters but it doesn't really get you an edge like it does in PvP. To me though if you have to cheat or exploit in a game you are just a weak person that did not have parents that taught you right from wrong.

Id like to throw my hat in with the "0" votes side. The fact is, all the games I think were the "BEST" games were mixed PvE and PvP. The best version of this game imho would have simply a NA server, along with an EU and CN server. Ofc with a way different map layout than what was suggested, although it was called out as being exceptionally rudimentary. The problem is the systems and mechanics to support this haven't even been mentioned, making it sound like a worse idea than it actually is. This conversation should have nothing to do with server pop. I think the fact that the PvP pop is around 1500-3000 is a great thing. The game is better/best with about that many people on. Remember these are supposed to be colony servers, not facilitated to these "mega" abominations. They were given their server and no one wanted to play that way so enforcing "non-megas" should be a thing as well. I don't know about PvE, but PvP has just about every island inhabited. The legitimate complaint is about the near endorsement of cheating from the Dev/GM side. However lets not pretend that there are no cheaters on PvE, just less noticeable because of the style. Don't be silly and pretend only people in PvP cheat.

Or maybe its a low pop because people quit every day. I have never regained my interest since the wipe. I came back and rebuilt, the whole time wondering why I'm doing it. We rebuild for another wipe? That's just the thinking of a progression minded MMOer. What was that comment from the devs a ways back? Something like "we are not really too concerned about how many are playing the game right now". As far as a merge... I PVP in most games but PVP in this game looks like a grief fest. If servers merge, I won't be around.

Because you should not auto win any and all conflicts just because you have more players than anyone else. It is not a penalty for "grouping". It is a penalty for "swarming". If there isn't going to be anything that could stop the largest group of asshats on a server from spiraling out of control, then at least add proper guerrila warfare, so small groups can stay out of reach of the larger ones by *effectively hiding away* and doing hard hitting skirmishes against the larer groups. Large armies, by their very nature, should be a lot slower in their capabilities to react to anything, whereas a small group of people could strike literally any time, anywhere. Where is the equivalent for that in this game? Asymmetric warfare (in a GAME, mind you) is all fine and well, as long as there is a way for each side to come out successfully. It should be *different* things a small group needs to do in order to win, as for the larger group. But simply making one side not having ANY chance to win a fight just because they're fewer in numbers is lazy, stupid and shows a significant lack of understanding of how asymmetrical battle can be a satisfying and FUN experience for ALL involved parties. This is a fricking GAME, mind you, and i am as much a paying customer as your fellow player, who wants to have FUN and not only get farmed by the bigger corps. Also, stating that there is no problem simply because YOU don't have any problem, because you are part of the largest corp in the game only shows how little you are willing to help anyone but yourself, and how much you are part of the problem, as opposed to being part of the solution. Bite me!

Giving him admin gives him all sorts of power to do dastardly deeds. When faced with a problem child having a tantrum, do not hand them a gun. The crew I have now are all older, mature gamers here for the fun and we have little to no drama, but I had an earlier company at the start that had one of these drama queens in it. You offered to help him continue his journey, he is not taking you up on the offer. Kick him to the curb. If he causes anymore drama that constitutes griefing, screenshot it and fill out a ticket for the developers to look at. Don't come here to name and shame, they don't like that so much. But those that try to ruin gameplay for others are finding out that the developers eventually do get around to smacking their tender, little bottoms when they act out.
