Why are the largest ships equipped with speed sails the fastest ship in the game? This makes little sense in regards to an MMO. As traditionally, the smallest ships are the frailest and defenseless ships in the game but to compensate for this fact they are smaller and lighter and usually offer faster speeds and agility as the trade-off. But in Atlas, the largest ships suffer no negatives, they get to have it all, weight, HP, armor, firepower, agility, and speed. This makes no sense from the MMO perspective as generally the solo and smaller companies will never be able to viably maintain the largest of the ships. But solo and smaller companies need to be able to rely on speed/agility to survive and flee from the larger ships built for death otherwise your MMO is flawed, allowing only survivability for larger companies and the solo/smaller companies be damned! As a solo player, I almost always get run-down trying to flee larger ships as I try to salvage wrecks, fish, treasure hunt, transport exotic spices, resources, and creatures, or explore. This is NOT very fun for us players that are NOT trying to have ship-to-ship encounters. Smaller ships should NOT be allowed to equip cannons and turrets but offer greater speeds and agility, allowing better opportunities to escape deadly encounters unscathed.

Someone linked me one of my biggest complaints about Cannons only being snapped to gunports... but guess what.. you only did large cannons... BIG WHOOPY DOO there guys... can still put 30+ med cannons on one side..... my god do you guys even think before you submit a patch... You got one hope to save this game... hire me for creative director period.... otherwise GG this ship has literally sailed.

Just because solo or smaller companies complain about the largest companies getting all of the content and glory, does NOT mean that we do not desire PVP. In fact, I am extremely fond of PVP encounters where I am able to go one-and-one on even grounds where skill matters NOT the size of your company. That is real PVP to me. You pompous ass, you think that only you get to decide whether someone should be playing the game in PVP mode or not? Screw you, I am a paying customer just the same as you are. Of course, I have not experienced the Galleon, as I had said. I cannot even dream to build one and maintain it as a solo company. This does not change the fact that they always run down smaller ships none-the-less. That was my point. Oh, good one! Your intelligence is staggering...

this 20% is a lot of gold to lose , like the standard resources it should be appearing in the coffers of the island owner on pve I say again taxes are there to be able to benefit the players collecting the tax and contributing by paying tax , on pvp u pay tax u get the protection of the island owner in pve the ONLY ones benefiting are the island owners so why should pve players pay tax ,? an answer to this from an island owner as to what benefits do the taxpayers get for giving you gold for nothing ,dont reply with it cost x amount to upkeep blah blah , a genuine answer only , WHAT BENEFITS DO THE PVE GOLD TAX PAYERS GET ? not really a good reply to what benefits are there to pve gold tax payers, in pvp they get protection , pve they get nothing except 20% taken

Willard, you are just being a troll. Quit being an ass Mr. Troll! ALL cannons placed on ships should be restricted to their corresponding Gun ports. This was the intended design and corrects the design abuse and meta for positioning all your cannons on one side with the intentions of releasing an obscene payload in one consorted salvo. Secondly, why even have siege weapons if you are just going to allow players to mount cannons on carts where a tame can pull that cart up to someone's structure? This is the meta and it is silly. Encourage players to have to use explosive barrels and siege weapons to attack land locked structures as was your original intentions. Thank you, sincerely.

Just tell me 1 thing... I can stack 100 large sails, but fertilizer... you get 1. Well 2 things... I can carry a literal mountain of metal, but a heat wave...and I’m dead.

From what I understand, there are ways to go faster, and quite a bit faster at that. For the most part, speed sails offer a higher top speed for any given ship, regardless of wind. The wind itself is where the actual speed comes in, but there's another factor that seems overlooked. Ship weight has changed a little since I last played, and it appears in order to gain more speed, the ship needs to be lighter as a percentage of it's total weight. Spending points into weight lowers how much speed loss there is, so an empty ship with all points into weight will travel much faster than a ship that is carrying the same amount of weight, but has no points in weight itself... What annoys me is the lack of sail design and mechanic to allow for a greater sailing experience. It's very much play on rails when it comes to putting a ship out on the water in order to become fast. Handling sails should ideally have snaps ONLY on the front of a ship, and would actually be the speed sail. Think of a jib sail versus mainsail on a yacht. There very notion of having one set of sails across the entire ship and placed where you like seems a little archaic and ignorant of actual sailing. By adjusting sail positions and mechanics, one could create a bit more diversity in ship design, rather than having "this is what you do, and if you don't, you are bad" mechanics. I prefer handling on a gally, being able to turn is a huge thing for me, but the loss of overall speed makes them redundant. Mixing the two offers little benefit, thus forcing cookie cutter ships which ideally serve a very cookie cutter style of play;- run them down or run away. Intricate ship battles seem to be avoided while good mechanics and playstyle fly out the window when it comes to either cut them down or run away tactics. a jib sail with no boom would be preferred out front, thus allowing straight line speed when wind is favorable, and would certainly offer straight-line sailing far more speed as a result, any turn out of wind would make the sail simply not work at all. I really do feel that by having 'speed' and 'handling' etc really does limit the sail loadout. There are many things wrong with the game at this point, red and white meats also get my blood boiling. Fish and Animal meat? seriously. A 'steering wheel'? Come on. Terms should be used and players may enjoy the immersion of having a helm over a steering wheel. Just my two cents.

Hell yes id consider banning. Nothing more un original and god awfull than an Ark style dmz. I want to get as far away from Ark 2.0 as possible. Ill never understand what was so hard about just giving everyone a single claim flag and going from there. But the fact is, if your spamming foundations, its becuase you are trying to rig the system. Say what you want, but it is what it is. There are lots of ways to combat this from a GM perspective. 1. Solo foundations decay in a day. 2. The radius of the no build zone is super small, making spamming worthless. 3. A ratio of foundations to walls and ceilings. 4. Go super conservative and put a hard limit per company / person on foundations. 5. Make foundations super weak and multiply the defense per attached structure. Im not even trying yet. Id imagine we see a solution to this before the game is released. Although the real answer is almost never banning unless you actually cheating. -CS

I think it's a pve issue t, in pvp the solution is already implemented and is called cannons.
  14. 1 point
"finding" a solution is extremely simple. Like I said single foundations could have few hours decay timer. The question here is whether the dev. is willing to change this mechanic or not. But one thing I agree: banning players for the game's shortcomings is really NOT a solution. Thankfully, 51% of our players aren't developers themselves because if that's how they reason they'd conceive even worse games than those they criticize.

Same here. Heard so many things about those bad, bad, zerging Megas. Never seen them. At least, I´ve never seen them in such a large number, that a 20 man-company, acutally using their brains and having some skill, would have been able to defeat them. At least, defeat them for a while. Pro Tip: An alliance of 3 20-man-companies can easily fight a 75-man-tribe. The truth is: People in such 3-5 man-companies talk about alliance and stuff, but they dont do it. They use the alliance feature ingame, but they just use it as a chat and for trading, nothing else. If alliance members are attacked, they dont help, they keep doing their stuff. And another truth: a 20 man-tribe that gets ganked by a 50 man-tribe doesnt care about unfair balances while attacking a duo or trio. They dont ask "how many are in your company?" before they attack. They attack because they actually know that their enemy cant defeat them due to larger numbers. But then, the 20 man-tribe comes to the forums and cries about megas. Thats so funny. And hell, yeah: Of course, its the same old story that you´ll encounter on every game: "If smaller companies get supported, there will be so many new players"... yeah, ask yourself, why those players dont already play and join up your small companie? Because they dont fking exist. And the small amount of players that would join just wants to do their own stuff, playing solo, and being Jack Sparrow.

so, i know lotus is getting a lot of flak, which he shouldn't. Its not that hard for smaller/solo companies to get in a bigger alliance on pve. Hell, Blood Templar, brought one galley to the world first kill with lotus company. Be social and stop bitching. its an MMO. For people who dont know what that means MASSIVE MULTIPLAYER. make friends, be social. Joining alliances are helpful on pve for this exactly reason.

Why are you climbing that mast.... Do it before you sail with closed sails or in open water with closed sails.

This is why people are forced to do the same thing, maybe not to this extent but to place foundations down to map your area before you build. When I first arrived all I made was a little hut, this was when I first spawned after the wipe, I was the first on my island. I noticed 2 others running around, looked out the door and they were placing foundations down, I knew it was going to be like last time so I had a choice to make, put foundations down myself to map an area for myself or wait to be boxed it. This has a knock on effect, people are forced into doing it but there is certainly no excuse for spamming them all over the place as far as the eye can see. Maybe further down the line they will try the system of giving everyone a certain area with a claim flag or something again or change to having some certain limit. I have noticed alot of demolish-able bases lately though, whether that is people leaving the game or people leaving the island I don't know.

It doesn't just need to be even for megas/small/solo though, it needs to be even for the different roles that can be played in the game. So far, everything but discovery exp calls for the same mechanic - sail somewhere, kill some big thing, get a "thing". That's going to get old real quick: July mega update - defeat the giant jellyfish and get access to a dungeon entered via giant clam. Tame a brontorabbit. Aug. mega update - kill an undersea elemental that spawns 100 seahorses, and get access to an oil rig. Tame a snail. Sept. mega update - kill a reskinned krakamental with 30 people and then go to an island in the sky. Tame a moosaroo. Where's the hard mode crafting levels that only a handful of people in the game might ever achieve that lets them build and sell the best ships, or make the food and armor that really allows someone to live in polar regions? Where's the randomly occurring exploration surprises? Where the beautiful building options for hard mode builders only? The people calling for "hard mode" are only considering the "hitting some creature with a stick" part of the game, (and truth be told, it doesn't sound like they're finding that part all that hard anyway), but they're getting all the building and crafting in super easy mode. Let's jack up the other side of the game too.
