  1. I found your arena last night. Gave myself a tour and dropped off some wood, thatch and fiber incase you needed it. I had no clue you were building this on my old island.
  2. Sloop of war looks like fun! Also adding the Frigate and Ship of the line. First rate Ships of the line need to be so costly its like building the Deathstar. Should be a rare sight to see.
  3. Ah good point. I do like the look. Very well done and love the idea! I've seen games do similar things to this in the past and it worked out. Maybe some day we can have an entire lawless island for this. Pubg in Atlas. Rule is everyone gets beds and a small 4x4 base or so to build gear. Bases are not targets. Only people and tames. Company breaks rules it goes to a council vote and if found in violation of said rules the council can order everyone to wipe that company from the island. If said company continues to cause issues for this Pubg like island the council can order them wiped from their homeland(s). These things are all possible some day through a good strong community and leadership.
  4. I'd like to see it persistent like Eve in terms of just a living world that never ends. We the players for PvP are the content. Sure they can toss in some events to spice things up, but overall the players, the politics, the wars and the economy we provide is the main content. As to the wipe I keep telling people they have a bunch of good reasons for it beyond the obvious ones like the map and claim system changes. There are so many bugged structure, boats, wrecks, items, tames and even characters that a wipe could potentially do wonders for the server's overall performance, our play experience and make it easier on the devs to diagnose issues and correct them. The more variables you add to a problem the more difficult it becomes to solve it in any given situation.
  5. Chairs are too far apart. I expected people to be rubbing up against each other like every Arena I have been in.
  6. Hopefully some good data was gathered the last couple of nights. We were involved in some good PvP on both water and land which should allow them to improve things a bit more. Want to help improve the game? Reach out to the team on Twitter when large events are planned so they can observe and comb the logs. These are the things the devs need to see to improve performance. This world is too large for them to observe it all. They have to focus on these events and they can only do that if they know about them. Complaining like Talono doesn't do a damn thing besides get people to ignore him.
  7. This wipe is more than just adding new things. Its removing all the bugged, exploited and corrupted things from the game including characters. The world map is a mess of bugged crap causing all kinds of issues. Many companies duped gear, exploited gear, buildings, ships, cheated on levels and many other things. Some of these were done and reported to fix. Some were not. Time for a clean start to clear the crap out and start with fresh servers and characters.
  8. That could be fun. The neighbors I do not like would be out of mortar every night. Sail at max range and zip zag. Will never touch you. I guess its a timing thing. If enough mortars are properly spaced that could present issues. If thats the case then ramshackle sloops galore. Couple buddies sail a dozen of them in over an hour.......no more mortars.
  9. There has to be a mechanism to handle companies breaking up, people no longer playing, etc. If not given enough time you' have every single island claimed by people who no longer exist in game.
  10. Good info Jack. I have not really dealt with hacking much in games the last 5+ years as I've not been playing first person type games competitively. I'll freely admit I am behind the times there. In my day it was speed hacks, wall hacks, aimbots, etc. Speed hacks being the obvious one, wall hacks weren't very hard to pick up if you could observe people and the same with aimbots. Someone snapping a shot off is not always an indication for an aimbot. I've done it myself. Doing it consistently however is a different story as the amount of people able to do that with a high rate of efficiency is small.
  11. From a PvP perspective this element feeds into the political nature of the game. Piss enough people off and you'll end up with someone making friends with an alliance that is eyeballing your territory. Perfect excuse to wipe the dictator and install friendly puppets to the area that will play nice.
  12. But why does a clients FPS drop? Why does the client stop rendering at the rate it was a millisecond prior? I know its not a major change being worked on due to the cpu usage and gpu usage dropping very low. The client is practically idle in these situations. Seems to be a major weakness in the client. In my case it drops to 1fps many times. My CPU usage and GPU usage tank indicating the client is not doing anything at that time as it waits for the server to update it. If proper prediction code was in use the client would continue to draw what it knew was there and provide a smooth experience frame rate wise. Sure you and/or the things around you might warp as the server updates the client with fresh coordinates and statuses, but at least the frame rate was constant. When done properly small spikes in latency or packet-loss can result in a near transparent experience for the user as movement from the server and the clients prediction match up so when the next update in locations comes in not much changes. I was just hoping to get people talking about it and noticed. I feel this could greatly improve the user experience. I've seen how well it can work when done right and how it can destroy a promising game when the effort was not made.
  13. Haha good stuff. These are the things that build character for a game. People dreaming up new ideas within an open game. May or may not work, but who cares its an attempt at something different.
  14. Can someone make squares for this? $5 per square. Winner takes all.
  15. This is my theory. It has to do with server latency and crap net code or the code that keeps track of these movements. In my experience I twice had a tame disappear on me. Both times I found them at the bottom of the ocean 50' down and not always straight down. One time they were pulled near a shipyard and this was blocking my view when I was looking for the bear. Luckily I found him a before he drowned....he was taking damage at that point but he has 1200hp. "E" did not work on him, but whistling for him to follow did and the bear popped back up at the surface instantly.
  16. I thought the island owner had 12 hours to demolish new structures. Are you guys saying they can demolish anything at any time even months down the road? I'm confused.
  17. I'd love to see more 4 man Galleon crews sailing the seas. I hate that more ships are sunk while anchored than at sea. 15 of my 16 ships were sunk while anchored. Most of my companies vessels were sunk awhile anchored and thats with a wall around the entire island and an army of NPC's. For every defense there is a way to crush it given proper planning, time and numbers. Fun times. I hate sailing the seas and seeing very few vessels because everyone is farming to replace ships lost the night before. I want to fight ships at sea. I do not want to spend more time farming and building ships.
  18. I can't say I like the tame/cart meta in any form. Hand to hand, firearm and riding a naked tame are fun to me. Tame running full speed spitting out grapeshot/flame not sure much. First time i did it I was like hey this is cool its slaughtering people. After 20 kills in a row its like this is boring. How long do I have to do this? It quickly lost its appeal to me because it was easy mode.
  19. Seeing a lot of bad information in these threads. Can someone write up a thread explaining the new rule-set in detail so everyone is on the same page? hint hint @Jatheish
  20. I should have added more to what I said. Lot of the "hacks" that people have complained about when I was there actively participating seemed more like server instability issues and general game bugginess being perceived as some grand scheme by the opposing side. I have seen a hacker in this game. Once. When three people get headshot through 2 layers of stone walls within seconds it raises a red flag for me. I am not saying there are no hackers. I know there are. There are plenty in the game and lots of people duping gear, blueprints, gold, etc. Dupers are my biggest worry as they can fly under the radar if they do it right and it can tip the balance. Aimbotters are easier to spot and eliminate. Rarely does an entire company do this and rarely do people do it every single time they play as its easier to spot. If used conservatively it can easily be written off as having a couple of good shots. I've had my lucky streaks and been accused of aimbotting and I am not that good so if it can happen to me....... I know people who are really damn good aims and have been reported to aimbot when in fact they don't. I hate it when this happens because all it does is muddy the water. It makes it more difficult for the devs to take all complaints seriously when cases are not indeed hacking. What one person sees as obvious hacking I can point out 1000 reasons its not. Now if you're talking about spawning tanks, dragons and whales in freeport then yeah thats an easy one we can all agree on. My overall point is I wish people would gather more info, more evidence and go through proper channels. Every time a cheating accusation is made and it not true it does a disservice to everyone in the game and wastes the devs time if they look into it. They simply cannot investigate every single claim. Banning people for cheating is fine, but I want the exploits in the software to be patched so nobody can do it. Banning a person just means they buy a new account and change names only to be back the next day doing the same damn thing with the same damn cheats. Lastly if I was running this game I would let known hackers play. I would observe them and log everything they do. That person would have a GPS tracker covertly shoved up their anus and everything they do and say in-game would be logged. How else can you stop the bad guys unless you learn how they do what they do?
  21. Why do some games suffer from this and some do not? In the past I was told this is due to the network code using a "prediction engine" that essentially filled in the gaps due to latency/packetloss so that the client could display a smooth framerate. Sure you might get the occasional skip/warp/stutter, etc but overall it provided a much better experience to the user instead of a complete tank in FPS. I was wondering if there was anyone here that knew some of the inner workings of the engine in use that could explain this or even better yet one of the developers team members could pipe in to give us a high level breakdown of this technology, how its applied in this game and if/what efforts are being made to improve it. Maxing out server side performance should be a VERY high priority if they ever wish to reach or even come close to what was said in the marketing material. Improving client side performance however can have a very positive impact to user perception and overall experience with the game.
  22. I've been in many situations where people made hacking claims. Rarely did I believe the person was actually hacking. Many many factors go into what is perceived to be hacking. Most of it seems to be individual biases towards those they compete and their self perceived skill in the game. I've had my moments where I was dead on with the carbine and was openly accused. I've also had my moments I could not hit the broadside of a barn. I've made shots at people deep under water by guessing where the player was in relation to the health bar and hit. Most of the time I miss, but it does connect on occasion and accusations fly. While I am not saying your case is false, it is difficult for GS to investigate and ban in every case. I'd wager some money on the percentage of cheating accusations that actually turn out to be true. I bet the percentage is low.
  23. I just remembered that my CPU is running at stock speeds. I was having trouble getting my 1080ti stable and reset the bios and upgraded it. Stable as can be now after the BIOS update, but I need to crank that baby up 500mhz.
  24. I'm fine with how it is for the time being. If they plan on adding more cannon options later its quite possible the large cannon we see now is just a placeholder until these variations are released. Remember this is a EA and many of the things we see now are rushed placeholders to make a playable game. Many things will be fine tuned, removed or added as time goes on. Just listen to some of the sound in this game. Horrendous. Are my bears shitting into an huge metal container? What the hell are lions running on? Are they wearing pants when they do run?
