Developer ignores locked up/downed servers?
mndfreeze replied to Artist's topic in General Discussion
They probably just use the same hosting companies you can buy a private server from and expect them to maintain and run them for the most part. General server health is probably monitored by nitrado and relies on grapeshot to notify them something is wrong. Similar to how if you rent a server nitrado wouldn't do anything with it if it crashed unless you filed a support ticket or something. This is just speculation of course, but they do have a hosting partner deal and how they ran ark servers in the past. -
Dude, I'm telling you to provide the information on an NPC hostile fleet that you just mentioned with the NPC merchants. I know there are merchants. Don't sit there and call people trolls because I simply pointed out that PvE on a pirate game...I can't see the logic in it, plus honestly your feedback is jaded. You're only playing half the game and you're giving feedback for changes that affect everyone, including the people that play the entire game. Yeah PvP isn't bad except for the offline raiding issue we have with the Russian and Chinese time zones. People are mostly chill, we haven't been griefed by anyone, and our ships have been fine sitting where they are at. New Year; New Servers with Region lock. Let us pray. I don't think anyone said that sinking ships and griefing people is a mark of success in life. Plus your statement is wrong, let me correct it for you: Atlas should be fun for everyone.

Wrong. Toxic communities are fun for a single demographic, the toxic community itself. And the worst part of it is, if it's allowed freely, it's a contagious sort of behavior that eventually consumes any decency from a community. This is why some games out there grow more and more toxic over time, and eventually earn the infamy of being a game that "would be cool except I hear they have an insanely toxic community..." I know you've heard that about other games before. It becomes a reason why NOT to play a game, not a reason TO play a game. As much fun as you think you're having, or as entertaining as you think it is, you need to understand that a toxic community is not anyone's friend, and will hurt the game, not help it.

I do believe there you are wrong. I need to build walls to keep tames in. I need to build a greenhouse for farming. I need to set up a port for ships. I need to build a taming pen. That's a lot more than 50 foundations worth.

no. 1 claim per person / company. thats it. make it upgradeable to increase in size. companies also need a certa9n amount of members to make their claim bigger. also: dont make claims stop ressource spawning. make claims (epscially company claims) to be needed to maintain. -> put ressources into them that way you can lock a claim and delay decay. dont make deserted claims (no one being in them for x amount of days and not working them. just sleeping / standing / running there doesnt maintain it) contestable. just delete them .they just vanish by themselves. done. no need to get overly complicated with that. and this would (and imo is) be plain wrong. especially in a PVE setting. there are and always will be lone wolves. let them set up shop to build their ships and store stuff. just make it impossible for singlke players to set up more than one claim. make it so that if the solo player want to set up his second claim, a dialog pops up reminding him that he loses his first one. done.

Read this if vitamins are giving you fits
psykikk replied to boomervoncannon's topic in General Discussion
so cool. this way you spend all the skills on managing the micromanagement. what skills do you use to built stuff with then ? and who cooks / works for the guy spending his skill points on the abilties to build stuff ? dont get me wrong: i know and like the fact that there are those skills, BUT the micromanagement of vitamins is too grindy as of now. eating food should make healthy. plain and simple. now eating more diverse foods (checking all different vitamins) should increase health regen time, stamina regen and reduce loss of stamina while working. that way you can chose to stock up on one food type and be ok, but you just wont be able to work at 100% efficiency. it would be balanced and not overly grindy. -
Built a lighthouse and filled it with wood (only thing I found it accepts), but I can’t light it. Anyone know what I’m doing wrong?

its on the server It is on the server side. There's nothing wrong with the client side. That's what the patches are for (how to talk to the servers). When they increase the capacity, I am not sure if they're increasing the load capacity ie ram and processor allocation to each instance [I assume this is block by block on the grid]. This is always what happens when you have too much traffic without capacity management. There's no way the initial server specs can handle increasing the load 200-500% to "make room for people to join". The server performance doesn't come out of thin air. At the same time, this is likely what we get for a game that doesn't include a monthly fee [yet].

hi, after some investigation into why this honest to god dumb game just refuses to work i've found it quite hard to even care at this point i have a guild of dedicated guildmembers, and all 30 of us have been trying all day to play, some managed to play this morning, or afternoon, but MANY have been unable to play, especially since your announcement of the 6.7 patch version, now i wish to bring forth the simple fact that in the bottom left of our screens on main menu we can simply see that our gameversion is 6.52! YET the official servers are on version 6.7. how do you expect us to play if you keep us on outdated versions? so far so many players have been unable to play that simply wiping the eu pvp server as well as the others might be a good idea, so far respawning rates were fucked, connectivity was and is fucked and many players experienced lag, i love the systems set into place and if the connection gets improved upon i will love it more. but that improvement needs to be made and i get that that takes time, but can we please get an answer on wether or not there will be a wipe and on wether or not we are in fact on the wrong version. my personal game says "PATCH 6.52 (Rev. 105929)." and while i have you here on the topic of bugs, why do players in lawless areas keep spawning at the bottom of the ocean in a cesspit of electric eels, whales and jellyfish. you would think that all that would have to be done to prevent this is for you to prevent them to spawn in these areas. i am well aware that fixing things costs time and i know you probably just think i'm a frustrated fan and i am, but this is getting ridiculous, many players here have paid for a game that they have to wait days for to even get a chance to play it, this isn't early access, because for many of us there is no access. this is an early clusterfuck thank you for your time Dominique Van Kerkhove (Vkay)

Claimed lands (DEVS PLEASE ADDRESS THIS)
Sadie Blackhawk replied to MonkeyPhoto's topic in General Discussion
Yeah I got the game cause I thought it was gonna be this fantastical PVE experience of going to other peoples islands and visiting their player built towns. trading etc. Turns out PVE is PVP. I was really excited when I seen the claim flag thinking wow they finally did it. No more foundation or pillaring. I was sooooo wrong. -
When 1 player has a whole island land claimed and brings in 4 friends to contest the flag you put down and sink your ship your on in a pve server something is wrong 3 day cool down is not good enough, it needs to be limited to 1-2 land claim flags not be able to claim a whole island... and we are talking about a island that has all resources including metal, water pools and all..

dedicated server how to upgrade
PitMonk replied to cpspok's topic in Dedicated Server and Developer Tools Discussion
Does the game go wonky even if you add a new server/map to an existing setup? I thought it would only go wonky if you edited a used map, am I wrong? Also, how would you grow your map of servers over time? -

I have a password protected, 1x1 server running on a spare computer here in my house for me and a couple friends. I have been running multiple Ark servers for several years this same way without any problems. When I start up the Atlas server, it runs fine and people from outside my network can find the server, connect to it and play on it. But whenever I try to connect to it, it instantly get a Connection Timeout message. I have tried connecting to all 3 ports, the game port, the query port and the seamless port via steam connect: steam://connect/192.168.1.200:37102 (Query) steam://connect/192.168.1.200:7852 (Game) steam://connect/192.168.1.200:27000 (Seamless) Out of the above 3, only the query port (37102) gives me the prompt to enter in my password, so it is making that connection to the server, but after I enter in my password, it immediately says Connection Timeout. I tried to connect via VPN to the server. I enabled my VPN and loaded up the ATLAS browser, I found my server in the list and click connect, it shows me the preview of my server so I click Join and enter in the server password. It waits for a while and then says Connection Timeout. I couldn't find any options in my router for NAT loopback settings, I have an older router. But I should be able to connect right? I mean it works fine in Ark, so I don't understand what's wrong. Does anyone have any suggestions? Someone told me that Atlas doesn't support LAN connections, is that true? Is there another work around? I have spent the last few days trying to figure this out, so if anyone has any other suggestions, I would welcome them with open arms. Cheers and Happy Holidays!

All of your ports are wrong unless you are converting public>private. -
my boat dies overnight. i have no base and my sloop cant be repaired while i sleep so it just sinks. how can u make this more balanced for 1 player. i cant play ur game if i have to start over everyday doing the same thing. a lot of people have this issue im sure cus not everyone can sit on a videogame 24/7 so u shouldnt make boats passive decay at all if it only has 4200 hp cus in 2 hours i lost 1k hp and in 8 hours my ship is at the bottom of ocean. u see what is wrong here? i cant sleep.

To get better than primitive quality items you need a Blueprint or to get lucky and loot the pre-made item. I believe the best way to get these is from shipwrecks/flotsam or the golden age area's but I could be wrong as it's still very early n the game and we are still figuring a lot of stuff out.

Hey gents, glued to the game so far, so you've done that right This is a (hopefully short) list of things I think should be improved. To be transparent ATLAS is my hope for the best pirate gaming experience made to date, but in my opinion there's a lot that needs doing. BIG THINGS: -The framerate, for unobvious reasons. Tested on a low, midrange and high end set up, the framerate can be torturous and changing graphics settings doesn't seem to improve it, I believe as most people won't fork out for a high end rig, or can't afford it, this could drive a lot of the playerbase away before it has a chance to be optimized, and without a large and active playerbase the game will die quickly. This could be the determining point for whether the game succeeds or fails so I think this should be priority number one. -Community interaction. The lines of communication between the devs and the customers has been spotty at best, especially at launch, the community wants to know what's happening, when it's happening and why it's happening, I'm sure there are some in the community that would want a 24 hour livestream attached to Jat's head (myself included). As I write this the messages are becoming more frequent and the community is less in the dark, keep it coming you guys. P.S - can we get someone inside Grapeshot to update the official wiki? "The accordion is an instrument" is hardly informative. -OCEANIC SERVERS PLS OCE is a large part of the community, I myself am in a Discord server with unheeded fans of the official ATLAS Discord, where after hours of begging in the most Australian way they knew how, went to a private server, now almost 1,000 strong, and raised more than $2,000AUD within 2 nights of launch just to host a 12 tile private Australian server. The main point here refers the the first one, the official servers should be the truest and best forms of the game, not just by being the largest but being the most stable and enjoyable, and Oceanic players can not enjoy 400 ping. If an official OCE server isn't formed, the Oceanic playerbase will splinter, dwindle, and dissolve. The strength of this game will come from the community, and if there is no community there will be no game. -Territory claiming. This was originally slated for the 'LITTLE THINGS' section but it seems too important to put there. If I'm playing solo (for whatever reason) and I decide to build a schooner (for whatever reason) in my territory, chances are I won't finish it in one day, I've been playing with 2 other friends for the entirety of my playtime, with the sole goal of building a schooner with non stop grinding, now the grind I enjoy, there's something really relaxing about running mindlessly through a forest for 8 hours cutting down trees. What is not relaxing is waking up the next day after a well deserved sleep, finding that some scum of the earth has come along, pressed quite literally 2 buttons, sat around for an hour and a half and erased your life's work. The territory system needs redevelopment. The first idea that comes to mind would be; a point value system where a territory has a certain level, derived from the value of the items, tames, structures, docks and ships (that are unfinished) within the borders, along with value added from player inventories and levels sleeping, or playing, in the territory, belonging to the owning company. The territory would be assigned a number based off of these values added together, and the hopeful claimant would have to wait a certain amount of time based on this number before claiming the territory himself. Factors that could lower the time could be; amount of hopeful claimants and claimants levels and item value, structural damage to buildings and docks, relative force (if a galleon or fleet is floating nearby or within territory) and so on. What's clear is there needs to be change in favour of the territory holder. (Maybe also a cooldown on claims altogether, to discourage careless claiming) ((Maybe even a skill tree, or perks under Piracy for faster claims)) LITTLE THINGS: -Creature hitboxes Feels a little off when you melee a croc in the tail and it doesn't damage, no? -Metal might be too hard to get or a more reliable way could be implemented, but I could be wrong about this, you dudes figure it out xx -Perks for increasing gains with tools maybe a harvester skill tree -NOTICEBOARDS IN TOWNS for company recruitment or friendly messages! -MARKETBOARDS IN TOWNS and as a lategame unlock for large playermade territories, for selling or trading goods in a flash could be implemented as global, with taxes of gold coins for higher distances between buyer and seller, paid by the buyer. -this one might just be me but WHY DOES A RATTLESNAKE KNOCK ME BACK 5 FEET WHEN HE HITS FOR 4 DAMAGE???????? WHY GOD??? WHY??? less knockback for animals (except the elephant and rhino they are badass, my first experience in the game was being sent 300 feet off the top of a super tall island straight into the jaws of a shark by an elephant i punched by accident it was fucking fantastic) which brings me to my next polite demand -its far to easy to accidentally hit animals while mining, cutting, and chopping trees, especially when they walk through from behind straight into your blade. this might be an easy fix but maybe change animal pathing to make humans slightly repulsive whilst harvesting? (canonically maybe the banging hurts the monkeys ears? idk lmao) -wolves are way too heckin quick and silent -crocs should swim slightly more submerged than they are for maximum croccyness -not sure how the other boats are because after 50 hours i still havent been on one but rafts have too much trouble sailing against the wind, maybe a buildable jibsail and rudder to make the sailing more saily for the raft? -the amount of resources it takes to build a ship is both ridiculous and perfect, don't change it. -way too many waterspouts in stormy seas, way too close to land as well. (a few rogue waves you have to face head on or risk damaging your ship in the open sea during a storm would be great) -too many alpha creatures, fire kills them too easily too -safe zones for newbs -if theres a beasty outside your house you can lock yourself in, wait til he pokes his head through the wall and just punch him to death without risk. -beastys aggro through walls -maybe animals facing the other way should not be able to aggro to you without seeing you? wolves are probable the exception -fishing whilst standing, whilst the ship is moving (maybe meat as bait) finally the most important thing if you dont read this and implement it ill give my dog away for adoption BIGGEST THING: MORE INSTRUMENTS CUSTOM SONGS WRITTEN IN GAME 2 MORE OCTAVES SIMPLE SHEET MUSIC USING THE OCTAVE/LETTER-NOTE SYSTEM WHEN YOU RIGHT CLICK WITH AN ACCORDION SET YOUR TIME SIGNATURE, SET YOUR TEMPO, PLACE YOUR NOTES, INSERT HALF NOTES, INSERT TRIPLETS PRETTY MUCH RIP OFF TUXGUITAR LET ME WRITE MUSIC PARTS IN GAME, FOR MULTIPLE INSTRUMENTS, SO I CAN SAIL HAUNTINGLY THROUGH THE NIGHT TOWARDS MY ENEMIES TO THE TUNE OF DAVY JONES THEME LET ME BANG DRUMS LET ME STRUM LUTES LET ME PLAY VIOLINS AND VIOLAS AND DOUBLE BASSES AND THE HARMONICA LET ME WAIL A MIGHTY SOLO ON A FLUTE THIS IS THE ONE THING TO DO TO MAKE THE GAME PERFECT THIS IS WHAT WILL MAKE IT OUTSELL GTA 5 MUSIC MY MAN MUSIC THE WHOLE POINT OF THIS POST IS FOR THE MUSIC thanks for your consideration, this is the year of ATLAS I'll see you boys on the high seas aidan out
