  1. To add on to this, you can turn them on/off by pressing O while at the steering wheel. This also works for torches(which I cannot recommend enough for someone going to tundra). If you are wanting a milder white colored light use slate and tan if you are wanting a lighter offwhite color. White itself is more or less like tossing up a flare. The method for putting these on the decks is using the wooden hook, you can place these around in your base as well for base lighting. I recommend not putting them on the actual mast as they will not place straight and can sometimes block your crew(if non npc) from controlling the sails quickly.
  2. You can get organic paste from coral as well(1:1 ratio), have not checked tundra to see if it is available as sap is outside my front doorstep. Not sure if your PvE or PvP but a lot of sap exists in most temperate zones in the form of syrup. If your PvE and near Emslow Peninsula feel free to ask in general 99% chance someone will walk you to the trees you want to harvest. As far as an alternate, since coral can be used to make "organic paste" it would make sense that bone should also be able to be used in this format(they do have a lot of similarities after all.) Edit: Yeah basically ignore 90% of that. Can still get it in bulk from coral and people in M4 will likely still show you to a source(most of us are done building) But that's a shitty change.
  3. Yeah definitely would cost more, it'd be more effective for someone to create a 2x2 grid map or even a 1x1(single grid) that includes the islands from the zones you want to play in, problem is these would both be more resource intensive than spreading them out. It'd just be cheaper to run. It's super early access, your not paying to play. You bought the game you can go to official and not have to do the unofficials, you can even go to unofficials that are smaller and paid for by someone else. If you have a decent pc you can set this up and it will let you and your friends play on the entire map but your gonna have to do some work for it. Personally I'm looking at moving with a community to a 4x4 to avoid some of the bs while this game develops.
  4. It's actually 1 virtual server, this wouldn't take a full server to run especially since you can technically host a server on your own device. So you could probably very easily do at minimum a 2x2 on a decent server(4 virtual servers) depending on what the actual ram/cpu usage is. I've seen some screen caps that have quite a few instances running.
  5. Honestly, there probably isn't gonna be much in the way of development for this feature for awhile. Even Ark didn't get a lot of polish on it's breeding system until later on in the dev cycles. Just go tame between level 20 - 30 and call it a day. Not even sure if anything above that exists outside of the golden age areas, but those are gonna be your best work horses. Get yourself a horse early on, if you can toss a swivel or a ballista on it and most of your alpha/aggressive mob problems will go away rather quickly, provided you are on it or have an npc ready to fire on it.
  6. I'm just gonna assume that's 100% a lie from him to try to gain some credibility. I'd rather assume that when he's calling everyone around him a kid or crybaby he's just projecting.
  7. It's from the survival genre of games from what I can tell. Basically it's a "you can quit playing but your character still has to survive so you can't leave him just anywhere" type of thing. It adds to the RP part of it making you actually have to take care of where you log out, but other than that there isn't really a reason for the players to stick around and it seems to cause lag(as seen at launch) so it might be about time they just finally stopped letting bodies hang around. Plus I'm getting real tired of rebuilding my floor every morning.
  8. If you wanted the devs to ban them you'd get evidence and submit a support ticket. Posting here just makes it seem like your looking for attention and for someone to come along and help you defend.
  9. Chances are if they haven't implemented the death system and don't intend to do so anytime soon you will either keep aging or find the maximum age that you can possibly get to. I didn't look for it in the folders when I was digging around earlier but the debuff doesn't appear to have levels like the buff does(buff has 3 levels and unless they stack that's going to be the max).
  10. Not seen that one yet, usually it's a sea claim used to overlap a land claim. But I have seen some weird land claim spots recently so maybe something new.
  11. So sea flags / land flags are different in their radius, that's the "exploit" they use to overlap the area. From what I understand of it, either group owning the area can build there. It 100% seems to be free game in the overlapped area. Now onto the building itself, if you can contest the area and reclaim the area that they overlapped and you are the original owner of the building then nothing changes its yours to keep. If it was their building you should see a decay timer pop up like the ones that exist in lawless and you can destroy it afterwards.
  12. Nope Implemented code to kill off inactive bodies in Freeports and Lawless Regions (players who have been logged off for more than 10 days).
  13. Need to add an option for "This is a shitty biased poll". Sorry but having insulting options that assumes anyone who owns land is somehow part of the "evil greedy zerg!!" is just childish. Now for what I'd personally vote for. Rework the claim system to allow for the claiming of an entire island, provided the company doing so can pay a tax in gold or whatever and maintain that. Create a new UI to allow the neutral zone more options along with adding protections in to prevent either side from being griefed. Adding options in the UI to allow many things to be taxed individually or for a set amount of gold to be paid per week/month whatever period is agreed upon. Increased timer to protect the player from griefing the tenant, timer only activates if the agreed tax/rent fee is not paid. Rework lawless to be part of the claimable zones. Taxation is fine provided you are receiving some benefit from this. PVE Benefits Alpha Creatures in area should be culled at any/all opportunities unless they are pigs/bulls(these help with culling the carnivorous critters on the islands) Carnivorous/Aggressive mobs in the area should also be culled in farming sectors of the island(helps newer tenants get on their feet). Dock area for parking boats Keep in mind these are not things I say should be guaranteed but are options that people should consider asking for if they are going to be a tenant somewhere. PVP Benefits Mostly protection from getting raided Limiting claims will 100% never solve anything your imaginary zerg army will still own as much territory as they want.
  14. Poppy works as well. Haven't tested but the wiki shows Turmeric also counts so that gives a few options. My problem with it is mostly the spoil timer, unless you keep the ingredients to make the medicine only when you need it and in large bulk amounts. There really isn't much use to the skill tree even with the AOE. Need to add in a few options, maybe drinkable potions or something like that(this is supposed to be a fantasy pirate mmo so that fits). Right now we just have the AOE, a stimulant buff from the right click and a heal effect from the left click with a 3 hour(ish) timer for a kit that when used breaks and can be repaired(haven't tested if it just needs raw mats to repair or not).
  15. Did your crewmate happen to see this in real form anywhere else during that days gaming? I've noticed that when I do see these effects it is only after visiting a region with similar islands and it appears to cache that image when I load the next zone fro some reason.
  16. The problem is, even if they change that this exploit still gets left open because they can pillar wherever the hell they like. I don't agree with the current bandaid but this is clearly just another in a line of exploits that have to be dealt with. Looking at moving toward a 4x4 here soon myself. Haven't had a bad time on official though(all the folks in my region are actually rather nice) but I can see where the exploits can be done.
  17. You can place it on the very top of a cliff, I know this doesn't solve your problem but it lets you use the cliff platform if you don't mind ladders/elevators. I'm a huge fan of the S+ like building system, and agree it would be about a thousand times better to allow at least some no clip(fence foundations/cliff platform structures...etc).
  18. What he's getting at, is that while you can post here. Most on official won't be able to understand your viewpoint, this is because what you see and experience on a daily basis isn't what everyone on official is going to. So when discussing the official settings and the way official is handled it's kind of important to keep on topic. What you experience from a very controlled environment where in a small group of people is actually providing some level of server support and maintaining a balance so that griefing doesn't happen and so on. Is a far cry from what is on official, official is a trolls paradise if they are not reigned in properly.
  19. Can 100% verify there is claimable land or at minimum people who are willing to give you a plot or too inland that isn't on valuable resources. You just have to look and talk with people. I've found people in tropic/temperate/tundra all either willing to sell land or flat out give someone a plot with the only requirement that they are a good neighbor.
  20. If they work anything like the ones in Ark did, check your insulation levels. Easiest method of testing it to unequip all armor/clothing and walk away from the penguins(several foundation lengths if possible in the same area as the penguins), check your hypo/hyper thermal insulation levels this will give you a baseline. Then go stand right next to one of them(or all of them if you aren't trying to calculate insulation per) and see if it changes. With all the other animal buff indicators it would be nice if there was actually one for the penguins but I have a feeling they are more of a copy paste from the Kairuku mechanic in Ark.
  21. Last night was fairly eventful for the short time I was online. We did a quick run for some crystal down to L5(freeport so generic crystal for explosives). After getting about 2k crystal we looped up to L4 where we had about 10 different maps to complete, this allowed a few of us to level up(56 finally yay). Once we were done we returned home with around 4k gold from the trip. After offloading everything we decided to test out a new toy, the horse swivel. Basically what we did was toss a swivel cannon on the back of a cargo saddle on a horse and loaded the horse with some liquid flame and grapeshot(gun will feed from the horses inventory!). We had some maps to do on our home island so we wanted to test exactly how effective this would be for future maps of higher difficulty, needless to say highly highly recommend for all things. The swivel does between 700 and 2400 damage to all things army of the dead and the flame shot replaces fire arrows when alphas come around. The important piece is obviously avoid the flames when riding the horse.
  22. J5 has an island with cat tails on it. You will want to clear the crocs before you begin harvesting(in case of alpha croc).
  23. Could see them adding in a cost to allow you to stay in the area like a traders license. I get why they want to push everyone away though, too many in the one server means horrid performance but with the handling of the fountain of youth I'm not quite sure they really understand that.
  24. So I know that after awhile you can claim rafts and just scuttle them yourself but I've not seen that ability with the sloops or ships above that, and being the only way to find out is getting on deck I'm not sure I'm willing to test that theory any time soon being you instantly lose any ability to leave the deck since it's not allied and 9/10 anchored. The only means I know of would involve griefing(no not pillars) so I'm not exactly willing to do them, but without something I can see this being a huge problem as we've got a few schooners and about half a dozen rafts just parked on the shoreline of our island as well. And they are either abandoned or hopeful people who have a fast travel spot thinking that at some point the area will become inactive for them to claim.
  25. It depends on the settings. Unofficials can vary so much that it is impossible to say whether or not you screwed yourself over by parking it where you did. On official you 100% would have though. From what I've read, honestly have 100% avoided staying in the freeport regions longer than 30 minutes unless I've absolutely had to even on launch.. bigger ships take more damage and die faster than the smaller ships. This is even more an issue while anchored, if you have to park there for any reason, do not anchor while you are there, and crew repair works however it is not able to save the ship in the long run as the damage outweighs how fast they repair.
