  1. Not at all. Go back and try reading it again.
  2. What he means is that he will use the cow as storage until the destruction timer for his boxes has run out so that even if the landlord destroys his box he wont gain anything.
  3. The more companies OTHER than the owner company the LOWER the upkeep is what was said.
  4. how about, pve islands are owned bybwhichever company contributes the most to the bank each month. have a flat 1% tax rate on everyone, owner included and at the end of the month the person who did the most work/trade on the island owns it for the next month and gets to allocate the resources from the last month into building pve defences for the island against invasions of sotd and aotd that will attack the owners base settlement first. only if the main base of the owner is destroyed will it move on to other people bases.
  5. either way the landlord gets nothing. the idea is that this is a pirate game and thematically this is appropriate, particularly if you are dealing with oppressive landlords. people would have to spec significantly into the piracy tree to avoid paying the full tax and it wouldn't hurt reasonable land lords until the final level reducing it to 0%.
  6. You forget that you can build without claiming an island, so basically I can build anywhere I want and later you can come along and claim the island, you start paying upkeep and the inhabitants start paying tax. never had to pay tax before, just because you build a tax bank everyone on the island has to pay tax. the landlord is the one causing the problem in pve lol.
  7. Merging companies cannot keep their flags, if a company holds a flag and it merges into an existing company then the claim flag goes bye bye.
  8. They don't really want their own islands, they just don't want to lose 30% of everything they farm/trade for no benefit. Before you say "but they get to live on MY island!" they don't, it's not YOUR island, everyone paid for the game, just because you have faster internet than someone else doesn't entitle you to more. If they opened the PvE servers at 9am on a Wednesday in the US, basically ensuring that no school aged person or person in university, no person with a job would be able to log in till all the islands are claimed. Lets face it, you could hit lvl 10 in about 20 minutes max, the level required to build a tax bank, you will never get your own island. You will be forced to live in a state of paying 30% tax on everything you farm for the entirety of the game. Maybe even never get to build outside of lawless crowded in with everyone else, maybe even not there because that will fill up quickly as well.
  9. This was probably one of the more common proposals that the pve community came up with but was ignored by the devs, most likely because it is "too hard" for them to do. It was a popular idea combining the best of both worlds, limited claim number, no overlapping claims, all the best bits.
  10. So if you go the taxation route in PvE which I don't really think anyone wants, give the people a way to avoid it. In the piracy tree on PvE servers remove the PvP only skills like faster boat stealing, or looking inside chests and change it to % tax reduction. Make the piracy tree have something piratey for those who want to live a tax free life. I could easily envisage people avoiding claimed land now for all except harvesting resources. Give them a way to cut down that 30% tax that can be levied upon them by a greedy landlord. Make it a 3 tier skill reducing the max % tax you can pay Tier 1. Max 20% Tier 2. Max 10% Tier 3. Max 0%
  11. Because they only half listened and they are trying to maintain systems between PvE and PvP, The PvE people wanted ~5 Claim flags they could place that would stop people building in that area, thats it, no tax, no whole islands, no upkeep etc just 5 small flags to stake a claim. Of course the people are going to start complaining because they haven't actually solved the issue. People can still pillar the island owners base if they go away for a day because they don't have the ability to demo anything after that time. They have made the landlords impotent where they should have been trying to make them single island player selected "mods".
  12. Tax rate to high? Talk to the land owner, if they don't lower it to a reasonable rate farm your resources on the next island over, they will still have upkeep and no taxes to pay for it. Remember that 0% is not a reasonable rate for a populated island as they still have to pay upkeep but 5-10% is acceptable depending on island size and how active the tenants are. Personally I would look at a tax rate of around 5% ish for a group of very active people on an island. You will find that if the tenants aren't farming enough to pay for the island the tax rate will go up, if it goes up too high the tenants will farm on a neighbours patch or they will leave, either way full upkeep, no tax. It will be a very delicate balance that needs to be maintained by the land owner and anyone scalping their tenants will find themselves with an empty island and a huge tax bill.
  13. So work together with a few of those guys to overthrow the current company.
  14. Virtual Basement isn't owned by snail games, they just worked with wildcard on the Ark project. Bethesda was working with Electronic Arts back in the 80's I guess Bethesda is responsible for all of EA's bad decisions and screw ups as well. If you are going to spread rumours and garbage information at least make it something that someone would have to spend more than 12 seconds researching to discredit, OR so fantastic that people will suspend disbelief.
  15. If you don't want people to blow your house up then don't flag PvP, pretty simple really.
  16. So get your own island and tax other people.
  17. depends how good the pizza is and if it arrives in a palatable condition. But no I wouldn't bet on the pizza being on time but then I'm not taking the day off.
  18. I would totally be up for "trade routes" based on global currents, as long as there were quite a few and those were only revealed as you sailed them like the fog of war gets lifted. As you discover a current you have to keep navigating it to find where it goes and that current then becomes marked on the map. Making currents fast, visible and easy to follow removes even more of the challenge from sailing.
  19. I feel that this is more of a "towards the end of EA" thing, get the core of the game and things like economy working even the AI for travelling ships working properly before we join factions that have functional towns/navies etc. But it would be nice, even if you have to earn your place in the faction and we all start out as neutral to all factions having to perform tasks or play in a certain way to earn points with that faction rather than just picking at creation.
  20. Can you imagine if there were NPC ports that had an accumulating "wealth" that was generated on top of the construction of the town due to trading etc so if you go in and level the town and take their gold then the gold only starts to build up once they have rebuilt their town and people start using it again for trading. As a pirate you have a choice between, Sneaking in and thieving without causing damage or death causing almost no significant delay to their wealth gathering. Taking out the fleet with your ships but doing minimal damage to structure by going in on foot and kicking down doors and killing or bola trapping the people doing some quickly recoverable damage and delay to wealth generation. Levelling the town from the sea with massive damage and carnage causing a huge delay to wealth generation for that port. This gives a variety of choices for the players styles of gaming, if the port was close you would want to preserve it so that you could periodically "prune" it's wealth but if it was miles away you wouldn't care because you weren't likely to sail that way again for weeks so you would just level it and move on to the next town. Each action could have different reputation points to go with it that could be reflected in NPC naval actions such as sink on sight and auto attack when you enter an NPC port. Could add a tone of life to the game.
  21. Yeah this should have read *sick day* I corrected later on.
  22. I think people have confused *We are paying attention to your discussions and feed back and are considering the options* with *Whatever drivel you spew forth combined with as many profanities and insults as you can muster will catch our attention and we will give that particular squeaky wheel the grease* Which just isn't (thankfully) true, they will tinker with rates quietly and watch the forums for outcry, when heaps of people start to complain about lions or whatever they will nerf them, then slowly un-nerf them until only a few people are complaining. That is how you find balance, not by listening to everyone and acting visibly every time.
  23. The only way to truly pleasure a sadist is by denying them the pain they ask for.
