  1. #3 the rocks you mention here are very strange. They appear from certain angles and don’t from others (even if you are standing directly on them). Easy to run a ship into. They also prevent you from building structure through them as expected but don’t actually provide foundation support if you build into them (pillars). Also, the clipping on structures is very unpredictable, S+ rules to clipping would be very welcome. Lastly, I would not assert that something is “very doable” just because you think it should be. This cracks me up when people do this. Refraining from bold assertions on how easy something is to do when it comes to coding should be very doable for you
  2. this has been posted in the bug forums. it appears that they are spawning after a restart but them not re-spawning when killed (at least as much). some theorize that they are sharing re-spawns with something else. crabs, sharks, the whales in the trench, who knows. this is what i am guessing based on what i've seen.
  3. just traveled the entire trench in M12, not one.
  4. some guy brought a raft to the kraken fight and actually survived. that's next level leeching.
  5. little more info on this technique here: here's the post of twitter announcing the red alert change, this was a month ago now. i don't use it so i have no idea if this is still in affect or not.
  6. can be any type of alloy, gem, etc. just use what you have most accessible. i just want to know why my sub keeps unpainting itself. i want my green sub plz and thx.
  7. thank you for doing this and adding it to the wiki! i just opened 67 with 630 instead of 631 but if it's accurate to within 1 point than that's 100% OK by me! well done, one hook way up!
  8. i remember seeing a video a while back on how to do this. it's something that i never did but always was impressed that was possible. i'm sad to hear that they "broke" it, i can't imagine it was an intended change. just because the vast majority never used it doesn't mean it was bad. much like i'm sure most people don't use tame groups to full potential or at all. doesn't mean it's a bad thing. not sure what all the dog piling is about. give this dude a break, stupid internet mob lol!
  9. forget the comment about official/unofficial server. there was a problem on launch with overcrowding and griefing but those days are long gone. there is plenty of room on official now and most of the trolls have moved on. i play on NA-PVE and there is tons of open space. best part about official is you don't have to worry about someone getting bored and shutting down their server on you. make it a point to get to know your neighbors when the opportunity arises and you should have no problems. also, if you settle on someones island it best to try to meet them first or at least follow any guidelines if they set any. otherwise plenty of space on lawless or unclaimed islands. being an ark veteran you should be able to pick it up fairly quick. most of the changes are quite nice compared to ark, for example taming and high quality blueprint crafting. have fun and happy sailing!
  10. if so they changed it back, i remember spawning directly to the grid and island that the company was planning to claim after wipe.
  11. the number of free ports have always been the same. they are needed now to trade for rare materials so you don't need to sail to the ends of the map. you will be thankful for them when you are trying to craft those legendary and mythic patterns. what changed is they had to allow you to spawn on lawless areas to handle the server stress on free ports at launch. @Chucksteak you can spawn on any grid now, just change your home server. side note, still tons of islands available on NA-PVE for medium and large companies. sorry all the solo islands where taken the first night.
  12. any structures build before you claimed the area that have been around more than 24 hrs are perm. same thing if you owned the island all along and let the 24 hr period elapse. all you can do is wait out the inactive timer and hope the previous player doesn't log on and reset it.
  13. i just opened up level 64 with 510 or 512 DPs
  14. Man, that grammar... so, in a RNG based system you can not have everything be amazing or even useful. Go play diablo, PoE or any other RNG based game and let me know how many of those drops you keep. You be lucky to keep 1% of what you find. You need to go through heaps of garbage to make the good BPs feel special. That’s just RNG 101.
  15. I set up a public taming pen with public smithy and tannery built into it so people can tame without feeling like they have to build a pen. I will also say that on occasion I have had to build a pen on another island. If it’s a big island that’s unclaimed I usually leave it. If it’s on an island that someone owned I will usually destroy it, thatch is perfect for this.
  16. I’ve noticed this too, many unclaimed larger islands. However, all the small islands were all snatched up in the first 24 hours. I think this tells you how few larger companies exist compared to small groups and solos. I am not sure if the large groups actually committed to claiming several small islands like you suggest, but it is possible. I will say that I don’t remember the point system being added until after the PTR. On the PTR you could claim any island you wanted as long as you could afford the upkeep, company size didn’t matter. Not sure if it’s really all that necessary. I mean if you want to restrict solos from claiming large islands, wouldn’t you also want to prevent large companies from taking “solo” islands. The system completely ignores that. I think that a stout upkeep cost is really all you need. If you can afford, say, 1200g per day to upkeep an island does it really matter if you are solo or not? If you do really want to keep the system maybe it needs some tweaking like... at a certain company size you have a range, for example your 12 person company can claim an island in the 35-90 range. You address both ends of the spectrum this way. 40 player company can claim in the 60-150 range, etc.
  17. You do not get discoveries on your “home server”. This is to prevent people from easily changing servers to get quick DP. If you are sailing from grid to grid and not getting DP then idk.
  18. This is an old post with old info, the wiki also needs updating.
  19. Oh no, let’s never speak of the ark taming again. That was soooo boring and took forever for some animals. Atlas taming is much more interactive and quicker. I usually don’t use a taming pen, especially for giraffes and elephants. All they really need to do to make taming better is take a look at some of the hit boxes. The concept is fine imo.
  20. i don't mind this change, but i am not looking forward to what will inevitably follow. if people are forced to engage in broadside battles and not just kite their way to victory you will start seeing a lot more "tank" brigs to compensate. i really dislike the "tank" meta even more than the shotgun meta. it's hideous! after all, give me this any day over this abomination...
  21. I would be interested if you get something organized. Is there an alliance cap in pve (can’t remember if the cap applies to pve)? playing solo and working on *slowly* collecting power stones.
  22. I noticed a performance drop around last Thursday or Friday, nothing this extreme though. I am getting constant frame shuddering like the game is struggling to catch up for a second then runs fine for a second, on and on constantly. It happens on all graphic settings, even low. I’m not sure what’s going on, never had much of a problem running this game on decent settings before.
  23. The sailing aspect doesn’t get much grief because they got it right. The sailing and ship battle aspects of the game feel really good. The wind can be annoying at time when it’s not going in your favor but that’s part of the realism. This game does NOT need to turn into a Mario pirate game.
  24. agree, reload times need to be much shorter. but you shouldn't be able to go toe to toe with a wild animal if that's what you are saying.
  25. it's a shame people feel the need to go to lawless because of people like the op, it is by far the minority of settlement owners. if you talk to most people that own islands they would be happy for you to build on an island as long as you are not building over them or blocking resources.
