  1. ...and here I was going to make a comment about having to ground the Penguin into flour... Then I realized the question involves dipping the Penguin in egg and then rolling it in bread crumbs...
  2. Some people just can't handle the math involved in Unit Conversion Calculation. I play another EA game, space related... You would be astounded at the amount of stuff I can craft there with 1 g. of metal.
  3. Not only that, but in the PvE MMORPG I've played since 2006 I take great pleasure in knowing how to build a character to solo-run quests at the highest difficulty that take 6 lesser equipped players to finish on medium.
  4. I agree with the OP's sensibility... It's the first such post I've seen here and it may lead to some consideration for other readers, but probably not . I don't mind the swearing myself since some people just don't know any other way to emphasize their point. What gets my dander up (just dander... no hair up there anymore ) Is the whole degradation of the game, the Devs and other players using this language. That just leads to hostility.
  5. I just posted in another thread that the Livestream announced a complete trashing and rewrite of the claim system but that it won't be an overnight thing... My only complaint right now is that the inclusion of BattlEye won't let me play at all because I also do 'Early Access' testing for Microsoft, who are aware of the problem.
  6. If I had a dime for every time I've made an ass of myself pre-coffee...
  7. If you missed Friday's livecast, the entire claim system is in the process of being trashed and rewritten. It's not going to happen overnight or even in a month as they have to rethink the whole system and try to find a way to phase it into the game if possible. The other option is the game gets wiped so the new claim system can be added, with who knows how much downtime. Many EA games I've been involved with have gone down for over a month in such cases as they test the new system before letting the 'public' in..
  8. They could just wipe the whole thing and let everyone start out as individuals again, like a seeming majority of people who come to the forums want... Would that be better?
  9. My only suggestion is that land claims should be Tier based: Tier I == 1 land claim. Certain tasks must be completed to maintain the claim, like building a simple homestead (hut, farm, water, etc) Tier 2 == 2 land claims: Tier 1 requirements plus expansion, like Animal Breeding/Taming and automatic irrigation Tier 3 == 3 claims: Tier 1 + Tier 2 requirements, plus additional Tier 3 requirements (???) etc. As soon as a claim reverts (in PvE) or is overrun (PvP) the claim flag(s) reappear in player inventory to reuse. These "Claim Maintenance" requirements are loosely based on United States Homestead laws... You claim the land but if you don't do anything with it after a certain timeframe "ownership" reverts to the Government. This would eliminate placing flags "Just to have the most land" as the flags auto-revert if nothing is done on the plot. If someone wants to be a land-based producer they follow this skill tree... Call it "Land Surveying" for the discussion. If someone isn't interested in land then they have extra points to put into, say "Seamanship" skill trees.
  10. I've been in this position before. When I was testing Vista I had to convince the devs of the games I was playing that the only problem with their game was that Microsoft had changed the directory structure and moved the default application folder location.
  11. I refer to the people who bought into the fallacy that they were getting a completely fleshed out, ready for the public game. I myself cannot play the game at all right now because I also beta test for Microsoft as a Windows Insider and BattlEye "doesn't support" non-release Windows 10. Microsoft is aware of "Anti-Cheat" software issues, and Jat replied that they have made the issue known to BattlEye. I'm sticking with the game instead of demanding a refund. The problem is that Insider Builds have a habit of becoming Release Updates twice a year, in April and October. How many people will be happy when all the BattlEye 'protected' titles stop working on Windows 10?
  12. Who said there's nothing to do in Atlas? In the 45 hours or so that I've been able to actually play the game (I.E. The halcyon days before BattlEye) I have completely mastered the process of reaching level 8 in a Freeport, building a Sloop and sailing off to be killed because I found no place to land and continue levelling. Oh, there was also that one incident being trapped between the SotD and level 165 Drake... Think of it as a culling process to winnow out the non-dedicated "beta" testers

    V15 ETA ?

Check down the list for your post... Right now there are two different "Fountain of Youth" threads on the front page... Threads cycle based on recent activity. The thread with the newest post appears just under the "pinned" posts at the top of the page while less active threads drop off the page.
  14. IMO most players in this game expect a fully complete and polished game, kind of like the people in the 70s-80s who bought kit cars... They want the final product shown in the brochure, not the kit that has to be put together over a 2 year period on a (not included) VW bug frame.

    V15 ETA ?

Release times have been more suggestion than schedule in the two weeks or so I've had the game.
  16. If BattlEye ever gets off its' butt and decides to upgrade its product to work with Insider Builds I'll be playing every day. Today's Insider Build is April's Spring Release... I'd hate to see the gaming world in May if this isn't fixed, considering how many titles use BattlEye. Also, given that Microsoft is dropping all support for Win7 next year, Games that use BattlEye will soon become Win8.1 only games.
  17. PvE is also for people who don't want to deal with "Human nature"
  18. Those of us who prefer PvE, at least while learning the game, see that other player as a coward too scared to play his preferred game on PvP with the big dogs.
  19. You DO realize this game has just started being developed, Right? You've got another 2 years (announced estimate of "Early Access" duration) to have your unrealistic expectations dashed against the rocks if not. Seriously, If I were in charge of a game in development I would NOT take this phase to the public, but run closed testing with a group of experienced beta testers.
  20. As a last resort try building a character with the same name... I've had old allegedly deleted characters "resurrect" when I used that name again. I don't know if it was a bug or not.
  21. They talked a bit about banning 200+ accounts including 2 companies. Also the Claim System is getting a complete rewrite... They didn't expect as many players as they got and hadn't envisioned the abuse.
  22. As they also mentioned in the stream, they have multiple production groups... One works on new content, one works on bug reports, one works on new art, etc. Another thing they talked about at length is that they will not do knee-jerk fixes... Every suggestion has to be thoroughly discussed to make sure a small fix here doesn't cause bigger problems elsewhere in the game or even conflict with future planned systems yet to be written.
  23. Two words: Production Schedules Game production is divided into several separate lines of work. One group continues to actually work on the game while a completely separate group works on bug fixes.
  24. Did you try to logon during the world rollback the other night? Some of us haven't been able to logon since they implemented BattlEye, because BattlEye doesn't work with Windows Insider builds One would hope that this is fixed soon... It'll be hell to pay when the changes in the Builds become the public release in April.
