  1. Sorry but I disagree with the basic premise, here! While I think there should be a Pirate faction it should be different from the other Navy / Country factions in that it doesn't have to respect its functionality! Meaning a Pirate ship in a Pirate faction should always be able to sink another Pirate ship of its faction, because they are Pirates, the scum of the earth, untrustworthy and not beholden to law and order, unlike the Country factions that would never be able to turn there guns on another ship of there faction without seriously dire consequences! So don't get me wrong I think any action in game should be capable but there should be various degree's of fall out for your actions! Here are some examples! A Pirate kills another Pirate in his own faction he losses 5 reputation Point to his personal reputation A Pirate kills a Faction flag'd individual he gains .5 reputation Points to his personal reputation A Pirate kills a non Faction non Pirate he losses 2 reputation point When I pirate reaches - 50 reputation Points he becomes a Notorious Pirate and when and if he dies he losses 1/2 of all of his skills When I pirate reaches -100 reputation Points he becomes a Dread Pirate and Permanently dies if he is killed. If a Normal Players kills anyone thats NOT a pirate, he takes 50 Points of reputation loss and recieves a title "Vile" to warn others about his character. If a Normal Player kills a Pirate he gets 5 Points of reputation gain. If a Normal Player reaches More then -100 Points of reputation Points (Example Killed 2 people in short order) He becomes a Pirate and his reputation is reset to 0 as a pirate. If a Faction Flaged player kills an enemy Faction he gets 1 point of Reputation Gain If a Faction Flaged player kills a Pirate he gains 2 Points of reputation Gain If a Faction Flaged player kills someone of his own faction he recieves 75 Points of Reputation Loss If a Faction Flaged player kills a non factioned player he recieves 50 Points of Reputation Loss If a Faction flaged player reaches More then -100 Points of Reputation Points, He becomes a Pirate and his reputation is reset to 0... ^^^^ This is just a quick off the cuff example of a reputation system and how it could work to make the game better and more Role Play oriented and bring the game more in line with PvP for a purpose and not mindless griefing!
  2. I disagree with the post completely! There is nothing wrong with realistic sailing in a game about sailing.... The Problem is NOT the variable wind the Problem is the ability for Galleons (Aka 1st Rates, they are not really galleons) being able to have as much positive momentum as a Sloop or Schooner! Its just completely un-realistic! No or low wind should stop a Galleon Dead in its tracks like .5 Knots or less dead in its tracks! And the Brig's with there three speed sails(Square sails), they too should stop dead in there tracks like 1-1.5 Knots or less.... Schooners and Sloops with Lanteen Sails (Maneuvering Sails) should be able to reach 3-6 Knots assuming they are not overweight! ^^^^ This would be realistic and it would help solve one of the glaring issues in the game with the biggest ship always being the best ship "LUNACY" First rates were NOT CARGO ships people! They were "man of wars" and there Cargo was Cannons! And Wind was there mortal enemy! The Santisima the largest 1st rate to even sail went to davy jones locker because it was trapped in it and useless.
  3. Sorry interfaces and third party programs that do this type of thing, I am definately not a fan of, as it just turns vendors into a mutated form of an Auction House as it brings the same horrible feature that Auction Houses create back to the fore front, and that is the ability to see all prices of an item with no effort and then be able to undercut said price bye a Penny! Maybe I could see an ingame feature that is Hidden at the end of a very specialized Profesion Path but even then people will just create an alt to exploit that skill, so even then it doesn't really work.
  4. WoW that alone almost makes single player better then the Multi player mode! Which is a travesty to be honest.... Sorta proves a point that when you make a game with no law and order, no rules, it always turns into a grief fest, players are unable to self police on the internet!!!
  5. I have made the same post before and obviously I like my own idea's lol.... However I also suggest putting into the PvE Zone Several NPC citys to act as capital's of Nations to allow for Faction vs Faction PvP.... But everything about this post is leaps and bounds better then the crap system we currently have!!!
  6. Sorry In Game AH are a Band Aid System for games with a crap Economy!!! And yes I count World of Warcraft among games that have a CRAP economy!!! Vendors are the only way to foster an economy inside of a Sandbox MMORPG. There is no reason that Freeports need to become trade hubs but I and others recommend Freeports because of the safezone that goes along with them. If your going to have a successful, shop its going to be more likely to prosper inside of a zone of safety! Problem is there are no game mechanics that allow players to put Vendors at Freeports, so they need to put them out in the normal world... Problem with this is = Atlas is a group of islands with mangy dogs who run around marking there tree's constantly and waiting to attack the first thing that steps foot on there island. Yes there could infact be Players who are indeed inclined to set up a nice port with vendors and attempt to make coin via trade, but who is going to risk dropping anchor at every island in the world till you find these places?!? So yes the simple fix is an AH for an environment like that one we have in atlas! But that doesn't fix the problem, and the problem is all the mangy dogs who mark there territory daily that are ready to rip the face off of the first person that steps foot on there island. ^^^^ That is what needs to be fixed, we need game systems that create law and order. Game systems that punish players for mindless violence! Game systems that allow for a sense of safety in locations that people may want to turn into a trade hub! NPC ships that hunt pirates down, would be far better then silly ships of the damned which should not be everywhere but only in the golden age ruins zones as they don't belong everywhere they don't make sense to be everywhere! The game needs to learn the concept of Yin and Yan, Good and Evil, without one the other can't exist, a good game strives for balance and promotes the game play of all, from solo explorers and crafters to the large groups of adventures. I could never promote an Auction House system every in any game because they only lower the quality of the game! Vendors are always superior because of Yin and Yan, Good an Evil, Crafters and Consumers, Merchants and Sellers... Most of the pvp inclined are not Crafters and they are not Sellers they are Consumers and a Consumer will always want an Auction House because its the peak of a Lazy consumer economy!!! Perfect for Mindless PvP players.... But Vendors, require the commitment of those that run them, they require strategys from Selling at a high price and always have stock to selling at a discount price and always being sold out, and balancing the reputation of your vendor as being one that is Cheep or one that is Reliable and in stock or one that is somehow cheep and reliable! This gives other play styles avenues to play the game, but auction houses don't foster good game play for the online business man or crafter they make the game far less fun for people who want to create an online business! Nope I could never support an auction house system inside of a game I want to succeed. Because they are wanting and lacking and the easy way out.... Atlas needs to make alot of tough choices it needs a face lift and it needs to rise above being a mindless game for griefers into something that is more akin with what the masses would enjoy!
  7. This is a Perfect example of the Player, putting what he thinks is best for him in front of whats best for the game! They don't need to increase sailing speeds at all there already too fast, what they need to do is give us realistic Sail types and how they perform in the correct wind! If you ask a player they will always want things easier!!! But when things are Easy they loss there value.... If you can build a ship in 1 day its not worth much is it! The game needs to increase the value on everything across the board, which means we need things to be harder and take more time! Harvesting should be slowed down dramatically, Sailing speed slowed down dramatically... Then Ships become more valuable! And with value comes a fear of loss!!! And with a fear of loss it discourages senseless pvp for pvp sake! Just because a game has PvP enabled doesn't mean thats all the game should be! They need to merge PvE and PvP together with one Rule set that works for both partys!!!
  8. Being a Sandbox MMO RPG The Sandbox MMORPG genre is EMPTY currently! Runescape / Ultima Online - Both are ancient Eve - Is in Space Wurm Online is old Grindy and low graphic's The entire Sandbox MMORPG Market is WIDE OPEN!!! Atlas could fill this void but it needs to actually make itself an MMORPG not just another Grief Based MMO like Rust and Ark. They already have the huge sandbox map capable of supporting an adequate population now they just need to make it an RPG Professions (The Current Skill system is a horrible Jack of Trades skill system, we need clear cut Professions) Economy (Player Vendors place-able at free ports - Not an auction house) Stimulate the economy with more exciting ways to earn your ingame gold. Truly make resources regional and worth the effort to trade! Larger amounts of Safe Space! Lawful Zones with NPC Government where people can Rent Safe Land to put up nice houses and have nice things! Insurance for Ships Do away with the pointless PvP and implement, PvP for a reason, Faction vs Faction warfare etc Create a Law and Order system. Basically turn atlas from an MMO too a MMORPG And Move away from this Ark inspired Griefing based game!!! And for the love of god improve the Sailing! Get Rid of this Texas "Bigger is Best Mentality" And create realistic Sailing profiles for realistic Sail Type's (Lanteen for Close Haul) (Gaff for Beam Reach) (Square for Broad Reach) and Realistic acceleration vs weight of ship. Bring us Real Sails! Gaff Sails, Square Sails, Lanteen Sails, Bowsprints, Jibs, Mizzens, Spinackers The biggest Problem here is that the gaming community has been trained to think (X=Y) Or in this instance (PvP = Free for all no rules, kill everyone and defecate down there throats) This is because of a Terrible Trend I blame Ultima Online for Setting!!! The Creation of Felucca and Trammel led the way for the PvE and PvP playerbase to be seperated they they couldn't possibly coexist, and that lead to PvP = Meaning: (PvP = Free for all no rules, kill everyone and defecate down there throats) Instead of Meaning: I have the possibility to kill another player if I feel the justification warrants doing so! PvP should not be a license to kill..... It should be an option to do when the player has slighted you so badly there is no other recourse!!!
  9. steam tracks if the exe. is executed not if your in a server of even past the loading screen or main page! For instance I am quite sure I have about 400 extra hours on arma3 because I left the launcher window open on accident many times!
  10. Mob mentality, the huge group goes nuts and declare themselves the champions of all thats good! Mega guilds have killed this game, he is advocating what is best for the game!
  11. Honestly No the game has not improved, they claimed they were going to make it more cooperation focused and more friendly to smaller company's! They advertised this fact and then did a bait and switch... The old server were the Giant Mega's was shut down, they wanted the new claim rules that was put on the new server designed for smaller company's... After they left the old server it was deserted and not worth keeping open so it got shut down! Then they demanded the rules that were put in place to keep Mega's from being a thing in the new server be changed and grapeshot relented breaking its promise to make a new server for small company's and everything went back to the way it was before, with the giant mega company's bullying and pushing the smaller company's off there land. So no the game hasn't really changed, the claim system changed but the game at its base is exactly the same! Not worth playing....
  12. Natural Law clearly doesn't work.... Look no further then Atlas and Rust to see what natural law is... Just a pack of Griefers chasing everyone else out of the game!
  13. I disagree here law and order should not be player made it needs to be fixed in code game systems! Look back to the old games like Ultima Online, if you stole you turned grey, if you killed you turned red, if you killed repeatedly you stayed Red.... These were basic systems that were exploitable, but they were a good start, but here we are almost 20 years latter and NO MMORPG has improved on it because the Sandbox MMORPG was removed from the gaming world bye the popularity of WoW, and the 100's of WoW themepark clones that have come since!!! You want to pirate you should have a letter of Marque! You want to war you should have purchased a very expensive writ allowing you to do so! You want to destroy property in a siege then you should have purchased a Siege Token to lay siege! There are Ton's of old game mechanics that can be improved on from games like; Ultima Online and Shadowbane that could be used in Atlas to make it a GREAT GAME not the current smut class game it currently is! But an Honest to goodness respectable MMORPG instead of a Rust / Ark clone!
  14. The world we live in where a game that has PvP enabled "Means" PvP is the mandatory all powerful focus of the game! A good game has PvP enabled A good game has consequences for killing A good game has law and order and crime A bad game, like Rust and other Griefer filled games like ATLAS has become, devolves into PvP is the only thing that matters!
  15. ^^^^ Above is the mentality of the people left in this game! That's why no body play's because people like this, are who actually play!!! You want to fix the game do everything OPPOSITE of what this guy thinks!!! Then maybe people will return to it....
  16. I don't want End game content at all "End Game Content" "Boss's" Are buzz words created bye World of Warcraft and the Generation of Gamers that have no idea what a game was before the: Dungeon End Game Content and Boss's and Dungeons is just more of the same WoW CRAP that has infested the MMORPG Genre for the last 15 years!!! I don't want any of that shit.... I want an Economy that works! I want a Vibrant Trading and Bartering System with Vendors that work! I want an entertaining Crafting system with Professions that matter and players who are not a Jack of all trades! NON Instanced Housing, where your home is your castle and your safe place! If you can't be safe at your house where can you be safe! I want Law and Order and Lawless zones not the current Chaos system we currently have! Basically I want a Sandbox MMORPG akin to Ultima Online or SWG, for those of you old enough to have actually played them! Its a far easier explanation! I want to go back to a time BEFORE WOW screwed up the entire MMORPG Genre with its THEMEPARK crap!!! A time when EVERYONE mattered inside of the Sandbox! The PK who hunted the Crafters, The Crafters who created the Tools and Weapons, The Adventurers who explored, the Hero's who killed the PK's When your reputation in a game was everything! And the Moment you killed someone everyone else knew about it and knew NOT TO TRUST YOU...
  17. I don't know maybe the Email I got saying Come back and Enjoy the new Mega Patch with a New Server Designed for Small groups and Cooperative game play!!!! <---- Thats what the damned email said. I came back and they did a freaking BAIT and SWITCH Also right here in this Official New Update! Colonies PvP: Freeform building, with more progress-protecting and time-enforced PvP rules creating a cooperative atmosphere, and limits to ensure the game is more oriented towards single players and small to mid-sized groups. We’ll have two official networks available for this mode, one in Europe and one in North America.
  18. really Shadowbane was design the same way but yet still managed to have enough content for those that didnt partake... Mortal Online and Darkfall online were both RvR which are some pretty big group vs group, but yet they still figured out how to put in content that worked for the individual... Pull the stick out of your arse!!! Kiddo!!! Sorry if the games I name are too old for you to have ever played..... This game originally tried to market itself as an MMORPG!!!! News flash Rust and Ark are Not MMORPG's they are Griefer games just like Atlas is currently.
  19. Ultima Online Played this Solo for many years had a great time! Star Wars Galaxies Also Played this Solo for over a year and had a great time Shadowbane Often times Played this solo too and had a good time! World of Warcraft Played this solo for a long time and had a good time-( Before Gear Score and Across Server LFG system ) Eve Online Played this Solo too and had a good time. Mortal Online Played this Solo and enjoyed myself. Darkfall Online Guess what I played this Solo too and enjoyed myself... Atlantica Online Again Played this solo too and enjoyed myself... I could keep listing MMORPG's but I think you may get the point.... Just because it's Massively MULTIPLAYER doesn't mean MULTIPLAYER should be MANDATORY to have fun!
  20. It's not a matter of what can and can't be done solo, its a matter of Mega Company's ruining the game for smaller groups! Its really that simple...
  21. I for one DONT want more interesting Sailing... We already have ships of the damned hugging server lines! Whales that one shot ships! Land not marked on the map! Storms... Mermaids Sailing isn't suppose to be this dangerous! And I for one do not welcome waisted Development time on features to make sailing worse yet!!!
  22. I vote YES... I think the Land based cannons should have a 20% Better range then the ship cannons.... So if a ship really wants to bombard then it HAS TO COMMIT and enter the danger range in which its going to be shot at FIRST... Absolutely this makes perfect sense!!! Land Based cannons realistically had huge range advantages in real life too... if I ship wanted too try and take out the cannons on a fort they would often attempt to send a party ashore and assault the fort rather then commit to a dangerous assault with the ship!
  23. I came back for a short time not really because of the claim system but because they made the claim they were changing the game to be more small company and cooperative friendly and that was a bold face lie... They did a bait and switch.... Come on back all you people who were run off bye the Mega Company's on the other server come enjoy a new server that will be a home for small company's to thrive... *Awesome back I come* A week latter Oh bye the way we are changing company size on your new small company server from 50 too 75 and oh bye the way we are closing down the old server that all the big Mega Company's ran you off of.... "Glad I came back and waisted my time for the, SMALL SCALE COOPERATIVE Game play"
  24. Then why did you make this post??? It would obviously rile up everyone and there "right" opinion of which there were going to be atleast 4 seperate ones that would be absolutely incompatible with the other 3 "right" opinions! Thus leading to the swill this post has deluded into....
  25. And for people who are happy with there solo life who then get "Strongly Encouraged" or talked into Joining a guild that maybe part of there island or a larger neighbor who can't ally with them because of the limited alliance slots then finds out the guild he begrudgingly joined was comprised of people that he or she just doesn't mesh well with.... But now his home and ship and everything he has done in game including his tames are now the guilds and now all he wants to do is go his seperate way so he quits the guild to see he has lost it all.... I wonder how often this happens and then what does that player do??? Restart, quit the game entirely go to a different server and start over? Seems silly that guys home and ship and tames are so easily separated from him just bye accepting a guild invite!
