  1. For some reason this thread makes me think of an epic George Carlin riff where he explains why everything that isn’t football, baseball or basketball isn’t really a sport. ”Sailing isn’t a sport. Sailing is a way to get somewhere. Riding the bus isn’t a sport, why the @#$& should sailing be a sport?”
  2. I you man. You are the opposite of typical gamer bile and negativity. Thanks for bringing positive energy to the boards.
  3. I use a keyboard, but I think you can get controllers these days. Having never used one I couldn't comment on them. I like both cats and dogs but my job has many days that I leave the house at 8am and don't get home til 8pm or even later. Hence I own cats but not dogs.
  4. I am perfectly willing to admit that it's possible that forum spam is more widespread than my personal experience in the past has made me aware. If so, maybe I am making too much of an issue that doesn't really have a good solution. I just find it odd that I've never been on a forum that had this kind of problem, and I've been on gaming forums almost continously for a pretty long time. In any event, I wanted to at a minimum post something to make the mods and the developers aware of how this comes across to their community, or at least one crusty old timer in that community, and to see if others felt the same and what perspective they had to offer. Thank you for offering a different lens and input. I'm not sure region locks are a good solution for two reasons: They sound likely to amount to throwing the baby out with the bath water. Locking out whole customer bases because of the behavior of a some within that geographic area is likely to amount to a poor business decision unless it can be demonstrated fairly strongly that the problems originating from there are keeping more domestic players away than the customers you'd be losing with the lock. I think Atlas's problems are many and complex and while region locks might encourage some players to return, I am doubtful the numbers would be sufficient to make the lock a positive from a business perspective. This is ignoring any ethical or moral considerations of judging an entire nation or part of the world based on the behavior of a minority. I've heard plenty of stories of abhorrent behavior of Asian players and been victim to some myself, but I've also heard stories of helpful Asians who were good neighbors and members of the game community. The second reason is that although I have zero technical background, I have heard more than one or two folks say that region locking doesn't work because it can fairly easily be defeated by VPN's or other workarounds. Again I have no clue as to the technical soundness of this argument, merely a notion that if more than one or two people are saying it, there is some possibility it's true.
  5. I am kicking myself right now because I just spent 300 dollars on a new computer gaming chair for my pc desk that has built in bluetooth speakers, and a whopping 2800 on a full grain leather recliner for my living room (I have cats and full grain leather is the most durable against pet damage but also the most expensive). It dawned on me after the fact that I will sit in the 300 dollar computer chair far more than the 2800 dollar recliner. Oi vey!
  6. With Ark I preferred the steam forums to the game's official forums.
  7. Sounds like someone is a firefighter in the western US. Stay safe out there. Also I am not hauling anything or jumping atm. Twisted my left ankle 2 days ago and am gimpy mcgimperson atm. Done it a bajillion times playing basketball but I’m not getting any younger. Stupid slower healing body is no fun.
  8. I want to preface my remarks by clarifying that I have no technical expertise relating to keeping unwanted spam off of a gaming message board. What I do have is 15 years experience reading and posting to any number of gaming forums as a basis for comparison. That experience does not cast Atlas’s forums in a positive light with respect to the repeated spamming of ads in Chinese that this forum has been subjected to of late. I wish to focus not on the fact the spammed ads are in Chinese, this fact is largely irrelevant to the point I wish to make. Rather I want to comment on what this continued spamming implies to me as a gamer and customer. The implication is not good. I have never been active on a forum that experienced such prolonged and repeated spamming by what is quite obviously the same outside party continuing to disrupt discussion and use of the forum for legitimate purposes. The impression this creates on me as a customer and member of the Atlas community is that Grapecard is either unable or unwilling to stop this spamming. I have no idea which of these possibilities is true but either is a significant negative to the way I perceive Grapecard as a company and development team. Here is the obvious logical implication of this problem: If Grapecard is unable or unwilling to accomplish something literally every other forum I have participated in over 15 years has achieved in limiting spam of this type, why should I as their customer have confidence they can secure integrity of game files, accounts, or even my personal information? If someone can repeatedly spam Atlas’s forums with impunity, and Grapecard cannot or will not accomplish the most mundane of community management tasks in curtailing said spam, this cast significant doubt on their ability or willingness to secure the integrity of their game or my account. Patrons often judge an eating establishment by the cleanliness of their bathrooms, reasoning that the state of the bathrooms is likely a good indicator of the cleanliness of the kitchen. In short, Grapecard’s bathrooms have been made a mess by this spammer, and their failure to shut the spammer down in any way shape or form causes me to question whether I should continue to eat here.
  9. Especially the TLC one in concert.
  10. WHAAAAAAT? I CAN’T HEAR YOU OVER THE SOUND OF THE COBALT IM MINING. YOU’ll HAVE TO SPEAK UP. This is going to vary greatly depending on the stats of the pick you’re using, any bonus you may have from hand harvesting, the melee stat of the rhino in question etc.
  11. I have questions. 1. Do you always talk with that heavy French accent? 2. Does your company offer member drama and officer power struggles? I don’t want to join one of those boring companies where people get along and act like real human adults who don’t need lots of therapy. Please tell me you’re not one of those. They are incredibly unexciting. 3. Do you guys really have to use Discord? I prefer ventrillo. I would consider joining if everyone switched to ventrillo. 4. How soon can I get highest officer rank and full admin permissions? No reason.
  12. Serious suggestion: You should post an explanation of why you are posting but don't yet own the game in your about me section of your profile, then when the issue comes up you can just say read my profile instead of having to go through it again every time. Alternativly you could just go all curmudgeon and tell people to mind their own @#$%ing business.
  13. I am completely with you. Had a date with a smoking hot chick once. Would love to have another 10 or 20, preferably without crabs.
  14. Doubtful such a thing exists so early in development when that info is subject to change with little to no notice, but it sounds like a good idea. I would start it myself but I know nothing about web page design and more importantly I'm lazy. Sounds like a job for Someone Else™.
  15. empirical evidence to support the premise stated in your thread title or just asserting a personal opinion of your own as fact?
  16. This post brings joy to my heart for the wonderful mental images it provokes. Kudos.
  17. It's almost as if the game is only a few months into a 2 year development cycle and bugs like this should be expected. Did you post to the bug forum with detailed info so that the developers have info to help address it, or just come here to whinge because the clearly unfinished still in development game you bought is unfinished?
  18. Everyone is attacking the OP because a primary reason he's having this problem is his refusal to use tames on treasure leading to him failing the dps checks. You are partially misunderstanding the nature of his problem. It isn't really a broken mechanic, if he could pass the dps checks tames or no tames, then he wouldn't wind up having the problem he does. Instead his refusal to follow a commonly accepted approach leads him to demand self centeredly that the developers devote resources to fixing something that is a problem for almost no one. The game is still in early access and pathing of mobs is something one would expect to see addressed over time as the game is polished, but the OP ignores this obvious reality and instead wants an issue trivial to most given priority because his obtuse playstyle makes it an issue for him.
  19. It's not a problem to fix it because it's not broken. The only person made unhappy by this mechanic is you. Referring to the way just about everyone else does this as "milksop style" isn't going to convince a lot of people to see things your way. It's pretty poor form to insist others lack courage just because they use tames to finish treasure runs promptly. Others don't lack courage so much as you lack humility and horse sense. If you don't want to use tames to do treasure, fine, that's your call, but the game doesn't revolve around you and your obtuse playstyle choices. Either do it the way nearly everyone else does it, or suck it up and deal but for Boomer's sake cease inflicting your self indulgent prattle upon us.
  20. When it first came out, I was living in a bachelor pad with 3 other guys all in our 20’s. “Stay here and try not to swallow your own tongue.” and “You know what... I @#$&ing hate you.” were heard around the house with regularity. Good times, and yes season 1 is still the best. Now go get me some headlight fluid.
  21. The only reason this post has degenerated into swill is because of the ignorant peasants who don’t have the intelligence of a mollusk to see that my right opinion is the opinion that matters and that everyone should obviously agree with me. What were we talking about ?
  22. Oh you're not the only one. I still very much remember the comments about how "We learned so many lessons from Ark." I have seen little evidence that lessons learned from Ark have turned into a better game for Atlas, and quite a bit of evidence to the contrary. At this point, things are indeed disapointing. I do reference what the developers have said they want the game to be, but I'm certainly aware of the vast gulf between those statements and what we have so far. There is a long road, and much could still take shape, however the present state of the game leaves me remembering something Dr Martin Luther King Jr. said once: "I am no longer optimistic, but I remain hopeful."
