  1. If no one can get their hands on meaningful quantities of residue, how would this help?
  2. Here's the thing about that. You might not find taming fun. I don't do it at all, but like you I wanted an elephant to gather wood. I bought one, and a rhino, from a guy who does little but tame, trade his tames and deliver them. It's what he really enjoys. So it might not be what you enjoy, but some meaningful percentage of the playerbase seems to enjoy the challenges it presents, and even if that's not you and I, it suggests the mechanic is no worse than workable. Just trade for what you need if you hate taming so much. In an economy based MMO, that not only can but often should be the solution. Do what you like doing ingame and leverage that to get what you need elsewise.
  3. I suspected this but had not gotten around to verifying it. While 700 distinct shapes would be preferable in a perfect world, in the practical world of limitations of game design I'm perfectly willing to accept this. I can't speak for anyone else, but the prospect of 700 unique islands to explore was a major draw for me in playing this game, so what you're saying here keeps that draw intact. Thanks for putting this out there.
  4. The devs know about the new npc crew bug.* *Boomer Inc. does not actually know if this statement is true, but you asked to be told, and it seemed a harmless request, so we fulfilled it. Please expect the invoice for our services in providing requested information shortly. Paypal, Bitcoin and all major credit cards accepted. No checks. As always, Boomer Inc. makes no warranties guarantees or claims of accuracy about any of it's statements or statements provided by it's subsidiaries, subcontractors or affiliates. 5. We also thought you were interested in fair minded open discussion of the entire game, not a narrow minded view that considers a game mode that is present in nearly every MMO on the market to be dismissed out of hand. Disregard our mistake in thinking you could be reasoned with. Also if you're not interested in including PVE considerations in your discussions, the proper place for you to spend your forum time is in the pvp section. This is general discussion, which by definition means all game modes are valid considerations here. It is your point of view that is out of place here, not his.
  6. Not sure why you would expect this. Even if they produce more SOTD's of the same style, there is no reason to expect they won't also produce NPC pirate ships or privateers or some such with different mechanics to add variety and flavor to NPC ship encounters. If we get all the way to game release in a couple of years and there is still nothing but the same old SOTD's floating around doing the same thing, then I'm right there with you, that's lazy design. But I see no basis to expect that will be the case.
  7. Don't misunderstand me. I'm not saying mythic gear shouldn't be hard to make. I actually really like the design concept of requiring increasing kinds of mats instead of just more of x. Except for hide this requires exploring or trading increasingly for mats found in different areas of the map. I think that is great. What I'm saying is within that great basic design concept I sense a problem of impracticality that may need tweaking. It looks likely that a full set of mythic plate or fur will require between 300 to 500 of each type of keretenoid to craft. At present finding even one or two jellyfish could take an average of an hour or more. Do you see jellyfish often? I've been playing since day one and I think I've seen two or three. Not killed, SEEN. They have a stun which makes melee attacks impractical. Bows are really the only way of killing them most of the time. How much residue does each one yield? Based on the conversations I've had with the few people I know who have killed any, less than 25. Think about what that translates into for hours spent farming for a single mat of 25 to 30 mats needed. Very boring hours because right now it's mostly hunting for a thing that is hard to find which you don't encounter much in normal gameplay. And that's just the quantities needed for the initial craft. It does not take into account the even greater amounts likely needed to do upgrades or the cost of maintaining these. Think about the insane amount of hours this translates into over time in crafting, upgrading and maintaining a single set of armor. I submit to you that it is a cost that the vast majority of players won't bother with, and that even those that do will wind up being unwilling to use the gear except in the most highly specialized circumstances becaues of the fear of losing such an enormous investment of time. Now let's compare the mythic to legendary. With legendary you can eliminate mythos and a single mat for only incrementally less effectiveness. This is a far less budensome cost for something only slightly less better. Think about what 3 mythos for arrow really means in terms of a maintenance cost. Do you know of anything you would want to shoot at ingame that the difference in damage between legendary and mythic is worth having to kill a yeti for every two to three shots fired from that bow? It's not that the cost shouldn't be steep, it's that the cost is impractical when weighed against other factors. I'm actually not really suggesting so much that the crafting costs should be altered as much as drop rates for the mat should be increased and mostly that locating the source of the mat shouldn't be so burdensome.
  8. Which seems about right for this stage of the process. Give it time.
  9. So one of the questions raised by my Op and this post is do the devs really want the cost of their highest tier to be so great that people don’t want to use the thing day to day for fear of losing it or because the repair cost is impractical? I’d agree that if the repair cost of a single arrow fired is 3 mythos, the question what’s worth paying 3 mythos a pop to shot at would likely have a practical answer of nothing. The replacement cost makes it impractical. Now if new creatures or resources are put into the game that allow for the farming of these things at significantly higher rates maybe that changes, but right now it just feels like an impracticality.
  10. I admit my knowledge of harvesting yields on ants and scorps is sketchy at best but we regularly farm turtles and although the shell yields aren’t amazing, they aren’t 1 shell bad. As far as residue part of my point is that I don’t think jellyfish are even very common, so even if you could kill them easily, how would you get your hands on much residue? Maybe I just don’t know where to look. Maybe the submarine will help us learn where to find thenpm in numbers.
  11. So my company has started to acquire some mythic bp’s and I’m going to use a couple of specific examples here to illustrate a broader concern, but the underlying point will probably apply to a number of things. Here is what I’m seeing that gives me pause. Keratenoid currently cannot be exchanged at commodity vendors so mythic bp’s that include keratenoid will require any player attempting to craft them to acquire meaningful quantities of all six keratenoid types without an exchange npc. This is significant because both plate armor which gives the highest physical protection and fur, 2nd highest and best cold insulation base values require keratenoid. Basically the 2 armors you’re gonna use everywhere but the middle of the grid. So a full set of mythic is going to require hundreds of each keratenoid to craft, and that’s before you do a single upgrade. I don’t think anyone will have a problem getting bone or scale in qty. Shell might be tedious farming turtles but it’s doable. I live in the tundra and chitin and carapace are essentially nonexistent there. I know you can get them from scorpions and giant ants in warmer climes but what I hear is the yield per kill is puny so they might be more tedious than turtles. I dunno you guys tell me. But that’s not what really concerns me. What really concerns me is residue. My understanding is presently you can only get it from jellyfish. Jellyfish aren’t exactly washing up dead onshore in droves the way manta do. Does anybody know anybody who has more than token amounts of residue? Am I missing something or does the present game state make certain mythics all but unobtainable until new sources of certain mats are added? Hoping I’m just lacking info. If not this is something that needs to be looked at.
  12. You misunderstood my post. Go back and look at it again. I wasn’t saying the problem was fixed. I altered your statement to make it more accurate.
  13. Yeah if you don't like rates there are several options: 1. Play unofficial servers with boosted rates, which is probably most of them. 2. Get your hands on tames and/or gear that will boost your gathering yield. 3. Join a company or a larger company so there are more hands to do the work. This game is not designed to hand you everything you need to build a galleon and a huge stable for all your tames in 20 minutes. Rates are fine.
  14. No one thought he was being literal, but when one asserts there is an abundance of evidence and provides none, it certainly leaves room for doubt as to veracity. If the OP were exaggerating his claims of hacking he would by no means be the first to do so, so incredulity works both ways in this situation.
  15. His point is that if the OP exaggerates one thing, which he clearly has since there are not millions of streams with evidence, it leads any objective party wondering if other things have been exaggerated, distorted or falsified. If I were posting a similar complaint and there was abundant evidence of malfeasance, you can bet I would be posting links to said evidence. I am not saying the OP is lying, I am not saying he's telling the truth. I'm merely clarifying that Kanwulf has a valid point.
  16. Yeah I know the gardener personally. He does.
  17. Stephen Colbert warned us years ago, bears are godless killing machines who will come for your children while you sleep. Having said that, the Billy Collins poem Flames is by a wide margin, the greatest poem ever written about a bear. That's just a fact. Flames Smokey the Bear headsinto the autumn woodswith a red can of gasolineand a box of wooden matches. His ranger's hat is cockedat a disturbing angle. His brown fur gleamsunder the high sunas his paws, the sizeof catcher's mitts, crackle into the distance. He is sick of dispensingwarnings to the careless, the half-wit camper, the dumbbell hiker. He is going to show themhow a professional does it.
  18. Flags in open seas makes little sense to me as things stand right now. If the developers make underwater basing a thing as the new patch suggests might be coming with submarine, giant crab and an underwater biome, then maybe it would make sense, but at present no. Also I agree that what you are showing is a flaw that needs fixing. The present system definitely needs a rethink, I'm just saying that no matter what you do, even if it's an improvement, there will be a core reality everyone must contend with.
  19. In any game with a finite resource like land that can be owned by individual players, no matter how the claim system is designed part of playing the game is always going to be dealing with the inevitable realities this presents. So if putting effort into dealing with this challenge is not one you want to take on, you should be aware that changes to the claim system might alter it in ways you like, but it will never be removed as an issue all players will have to contend with in one way or another.
  20. And if he does you're not materially worse off than you were before, but if he doesn't, you now have land. Downside here? Obviously you'd want to get to know the person you're entering into this arrangment with some beforehand, but dismissing it out of hand by claiming you know how "almost all people in land claim" do is not a supportable assertion. You can't credibly claim to know how almost all people who hold land behave, only the sample size of your own personal experience, which by definition is too small to make categorical claims about, regardless of how much sailing around you've done.
  21. Have Tin to trade and can also trade wetwood for Lightwood. Don’t needcobalt but looking to trade for resource types you may have easy access to. Particularly looking to acquire types of keratenoid other than bone or scale. Also looking for cocoa and limes and marrow.
  22. Atm I wouldnt regard breeding as really implemented. Stop even attempting to breed animals and my guess is when the developers see no incoming data on breeding from the live servers they will adjust the mechanic to make it more reasonably accessible. If you actually endure such a trial of tenacity, it will only give the devs data which suggests someone is willing to do it. Also lets all remember that the devs learned “so many lessons” from Ark, so obviously they would never have been so foolish as to start breeding off in this game with insanely unfun and boring mechanics and then have to respond to things like “sleep deprivation does not equal fun” in order to make common sense adjustments to a mechanic they’ve already had for some time in another game. *eyeroll*
