  1. Can confirm. Recruited friend when 1.5 launched, he had accidentally created a company, after recruitment we were stuck inside his hut because now he didn't "own" it. I am told there is an option to "merge" that allows keeping stuff. I haven't seen it so I don't know, but if you merge instead of join, all the stuff rolls into the new company with you. This is just what I was told and read, no idea if this is true. Can someone else confirm or deny this?
  2. They nerfed whale gold a patch or two ago. It still shouldn't be that bad gold wise. I saw your other post about gold and payment. I think you said you had 5 plus people with you? No offense but I struggle to see how you guys cannot keep up the upkeep on your island. There are more than 5 of you. I support an island by myself (yes it is small). The rest of my company has not even started gathering gold. I was doing it from the get go with a sloop. And I am on PvP server, I think you are on PvE? Not sure what you guys are doing. I am not trying to rip on you or talk down, I am legitimately not understanding why you guys are struggling. I think you said your island upkeep was about a grand? If you divide that by 5 (and you might have more people I just though it was about 5ish), that only 200 gold each. That's easy to do solo. Another thought is, if you can not support the gold upkeep of the island perhaps it is too much and you should either be settlers, or downgrade your island. If you can not do it then you will lose the island and someone who can keep it up will take it. Again no offense, but it seems like the system is working as intended.
  3. You do realize the whole point of the two different systems was to attempt to separate out the small/solo companies from the mega zergs right? The fact it failed and all the megas went to colonies does not change the fact colonies was supposed to be for the "little" guy(s). What you suggest caters to the megas which is in direct opposition to the whole point of the colonies system. There is a reason the alliances are restricted in colonies and were not on "empires". It is to intentionally attempt to restrict the megas. The devs and all the small/solo players want you to be splintered (not that that is even that big of a deal with discord). I really hope they do not change their minds on the alliances. It would be bad for the game.
  4. This happened to me and a friend of mine when he joined my company. I met him on an island on 1.5 launch day, he had already been on and had built a small shack to start in. He joined my company after accidentally making his own. When he joined we were trapped in his starter house. He eventually worked himself to death punching walls to get out and I saw he had a fire going and burned myself to death. To get out just punch the walls till you die. To get your house back, that's going to be a talk to Grapeshot thing.
  5. I am not contradicting myself. I never said it does not need to compete. I said it does NOT compete. It is a non issue.
  6. You know I do not even mind upkeep. The whole game is upkeep. so that makes sense to me. I do mind the upkeep not being even close to reasonable or sane. These costs and prices and upkeep just do not make sense. Make it like the crewmen. A gold every 2-3 hours, maybe have a skill that makes it go down, all that would be in line with the game and its design (whether you like that design or not, its what the game is based on).
  7. Who ever said anyone wanted to keep it? Or make it compete with a real ship? It does not. In any way shape or form. What it does do is give a new player or a player having to punch trees again have something viable to actually DO things to get back up. Now your insinuating because people want the ramshackle to be able to actually do something they want stuff for free? The ramshackle is hardly handing anything "free" out lol. Your statement is silly. Just because people want the ship to be able to actually work for them does not equate to "wanting everything free with no work or goals". If they were complaining they couldn't buy a real ship I'd agree with the handing free stuff out statement. But they are not. They are asking for a ship which is literally the weakest slowest ship in the game, which was heavily nerfed, to be able to actually do something.
  8. I disagree with that. Solo, small companies and new players to the game had great options for starting out with the old ramshackle. Now they will have a much harder time starting out, playing, or recovering from being wiped. The starter ships should be viable. They were not a "threat" to real ships nor taking their place in anything. There is and was literally no reason to change it. All changing it has done is make the new player experience and the solo/small company player experience a lot more awful. These types of changes drive players away. It would be different if the game had this mass of noob ships ripping the game apart balance wise and taking the role of other ships. but that is not happening. The old ramshackle was a terrible version of a real sloop. They could have buffed the raft to its current levels and still not have messed with the sloop. The only reason they did this is to make players try and take the raft. Which STILL sucks. The ramshackle with its weight and speed limits is a snail on the water, cant out run anything. Useless. These changes are an especially big deal on the PvP server.
  9. Yes, I had one on my ramshackle before the noob ship changes. With the weight changes though I am not sure I would now. Even with levels it moved like a snail now, and it was not a speed demon before. I still need to test the ramshackle, but it will be exceedingly slow with or without the diving attachment. If you can make a diving attachment, you have access to a smithy, just make the parts for a normal sloop. you will be glad you did. They nerfed the ramshackle, it is useless now. It would be lucky to outrun anything. With their noob ship changes, Grapeshot has made all the noob ships worthless.
  10. OK, I made a raft and sailed it around till it hit level 10. Then a galleon of the damned sank it. But I have made another for more testing! I will be making a ramshackle after I am done with the rafts. Get this... My raft started with 2000 weight capacity. So what is going on? They said in the patch notes 1600.
  11. I am sorry your preferred mode got the axe. The next best for you might be lawless living in colonies. From what I read they were going to nerf it but I think they left it alone, pretty sure you can still live there like before (I lived lawless for a while before wipe).
  12. That IS stupid. What are they thinking? that the ramshackle at 1600 is OP? If they had just bumped up the rafts weight to 1600 to equal the ramshackle then it would have made the raft viable while making the ramshackle still be a decent choice. Now they have made the ramshackle sloop worthless. Now it is the new raft, NOONE will take one. Both "starter" ships need to be viable. All they have done now is swap the uselessness of the "starter" ships. And the sloop is basically useless as its intended to be a "starter" ship itself in the game. They could be useful all around if the speed cap was not so low, slowest ship in the game. If the speeds were more accurate they could be useful because they would be fast, you could use them for a lot more things. Which brings us back to this discussion on capacity. Capacity directly affects speed in this game. By lower the capacity on an already slow ship, makes these move like snails. Which makes them useless to actually use. Totally stupid move by devs. Ranks right up there with the 1 gold per minute upkeep on the "vendors". Simply makes no sense. If you want to encourage the use of rafts do not nerf the sloop to do so. Just bumping up the raft would have been a better move. Then you could have choice. Now there is no choice, just like it was before, only reversed. Going to make a raft when I log on in a bit just to look at them again, and a new ramshackle too for a comparison.
  13. Did not see they had changed this. This. WTF? That does not even make sense. Unless they are trying to make rafts more appealing because no one takes them. I never take them not because of capacity but because once they hit something in the front they are stuck, you cant seem to turn them around. Makes them useless for exploring anything or going anywhere. The numbers I listed were true until the patch just a day ago. I did not see the patch notes yet. They WERE 1600. What he says about 800 weight on sloops is not true. You can read it in the patch notes. So you have to have more than 1200 considering you start with 1200. So if you have leveled it, it should be 1200 plus 60 for every time you put into capacity. Either way yeah that's getting low.
  14. First off thanks for the response. Despite what others say/think in my experience you (GS) have good communication with players, listen to feedback, and I think that is a very good thing. That said I think they need to be more than just "getting them to a better place". Getting them to a better place implies they are actually functioning. These are not functioning. They "technically" work, but a 14k upkeep cost for selling honey, at 1 gold a minute is not even functioning. No one can actually use vendors right now. That is straight broken and unusable. There is NOBODY, that can use these, sell things, and make a profit of any kind. My island upkeep is insanely lower. So you can own and upkeep an entire island, but if you want to sell honey its going to cost thousands and thousands of gold in upkeep? I think this issue needs to be bumped up in priority as basically every one wants to be able to do this. And nobody can.
  15. Your are not making a real sloop in 10 minutes solo with metal tools. This is simply not true. I have timed how long it takes to make a ramshackle multiple times. I have made real sloops in freeports (parts, then shipped them to where I was going). Also note you need to make the shipyard as well. Also note you need a loom and to make the sail(s) as well. No way is that happening in 10 minutes, and not 20 minutes. You are exaggerating to attempt to make your point. Record making a real sloop with metal tools in 10 minutes. I simply do not believe that is true. Mabey 20 minutes, but not 20 making a full sloop and a shipyard, and a loom, and the sails (which you have to have). But considering the ramshackle has half the weight capacity of a shipyard sloop, and a little over half the plank health it still seems fairly balanced for what you get with how much effort put in. Rafts have a weight capacity of 800. Ramshackle sloops have 1600 weight capacity compared to a shipyard sloops 3300. The plank health difference is a bit over half. These are meant to be starter ships.
  16. Because a ramshackle sloop can be built in 10 minutes at the freeport? Also do not forget ramshackles have different planks they have a lower health than a shipyard built sloop. You can change them out if you want. They have less health and less weight because they are super easy and fast to build. They should not be equal to a sloop you grind in a real shipyard. Just be thankful you have them, you used to have to raft out of freeports.
  17. Still have spawns on my base. I was happy with the change, before I had so many wolves running around on my island it was insane. Just wolves as far as the eye could see. It was like the orcs pouring our of Mordor, except instead of orcs it was wolves.
  18. Not a big deal, just balance changes. They want the game to have more MMO PvE stuff, including the PvP servers. The cost to hold islands is not a big deal either, sure more people need gold, but they added other ways of getting gold. Like the shipwrecks. Shipwrecks are literally free money for almost zero effort or danger, no they don't pay out in the thousands but they add up fast, and if you get lvl 7.5-10 they add up really fast. Getting gold to maintain islands is a gold sink but not that crazy... Now the vendors is a whole different story.
  19. Well if your going to shoot each other in the face I have a vendor shop in the freeport that sells guns... Please use my vendor for your shooting in the face needs. My rent is due soon. I need to sell 30,000 guns by Thursday for my upkeep.
  20. Upkeep is fine, the entire game is based off upkeep. But 1 gold a minute!?! WTF Grapeshot? This is not even mathematically viable for making a profit. This is not for companies with just lots of gold this just does not make money and that is the point of having a vendor, to make money off it. You literally can only sell at a loss because the upkeep is so out of whack. My island upkeep is nowhere near this. So I have to spend 300-500 gold a day to upkeep an entire island, but its 1 gold per .98 minutes for just selling honey? HEAR THAT JAT AND FRIENDS? NO ONE SELLS THINGS JUST TO SELL THEM AT A LOSS! EITHER EXPLAIN THIS SYSTEM IN DEPTH AND/OR FIX THIS!
  21. This upkeep is roughly 2-3 crewmen cost a day. It is blurry because I had to scale it down (500k pic limit). But in case you can not ready it, it says 7/100000, upkeep cost 1 gold charged approximately every 238 min. Not sure how this all works. I think I will put one up myself when I log in and figure it out. LOL I did not buy anything! just happened to see it right after this post when I logged in.
  22. Was able to open it and this is what I saw.
  23. Found one in the wild right after reading this thread.
