  1. I agree with you. My idea was not to make it punishing. Rather to slow the taking and littering of unused claims. Also I would have the first claim free. Maybe it should be the first two claims. And then "power players" can have more but for a fee that might stop some of the littering. That rate may be too much or not needed at all once it all shakes out.
  2. I'd like to see a larger map myself. I think tames add to the game. I think most people left due to lack of claimable land, offline pvp issues and bugs/incomplete game issues.
  3. And the claiming process could be done through the interface rather than a flag. Just below the discovery area text, a second line for that claim that's clickable with a menu. And/or a 2 meter no build border within the claim might be a good idea.
  4. Just in general, if you are not going to use it, why have someone drop a shipyard and some lockers that just sit there forever. If they are going to use it, then great. If not, I think open not built on space adds to the game for everyone. Take what you plan to use, don't just take because you have claims available. I live on a lawless now where you can't see 1/4 mile of beach due to ship yards. Mostly owned by two companies and I've never seen one in use. And I never see those players. Looks like crap. I bet that area would look nice as an open beach. Oh and a lot of those timers expired a 6pm tonight. Alexa is already set to remind me.
  5. Just to slow people from taking land they never use.
  6. These ideas are mainly for PVE servers... 1. Each island/grid should be sliced into preset grids (squares) just like the main Atlas map. A claim is a square and is set/unchangeable and does not over lap. Yes, this will mean some grids have less usable space. 2. Claiming/declaiming should work anywhere on that claim grid. So an object blocking the flag is not a factor. 3. PVE servers, a reasonable claim limit should be put in place. Maybe 4 to 8. 4. Any claim who's owner has not logged in in 28 days (4 weeks) is auto deleted. Any auto deleted claims has all player dropped objects auto deleted and containers (lockers) returned to the owners inventory. Any played having auto returned items should receive an 8 hour weight restriction override to relocate if they return. 5. Any claim that has not had the owner stand on it in 14 days can be declaimed by someone else. 6. 5 gold per day up keep that can be paid up to 45 days in advance. Not refundable if claim is lost. First claim free. 7. Claims can be deeded over to a company or held private. This allows company members to drop items (if perms given). 8. 15 Claims max per company. Only acquired by a member deeding a personal claim to the company. Still counting against the members count and subject to the same auto delete rules (if that member quits, that claim is auto deleted and cleared at 28 days). 9. To leave some open space. Some percentage (maybe 25% - 33%) of each grids land mass is not claimable or buildable. Perhaps every 3rd or 4th claim line top to bottom through the grid is unclaimable. 10. Each claim should have (2) 14 day lock out periods per year. Selected by the owner for planned vacation/away time. During those lock out periods the claim cannot be taken. 11. Claims can be sold or transferred. 12. Remove all sea claims. Why should any player pay a percentage of kill loot to another player? 13. Disallow all forms of player to player renting/leasing. These ideas are mainly for PVE servers.
  7. I understand the change and its not perfect but I can tell you it does work. I'll also add when I changed my trap from 3x3 to 4x5 it went from difficult to easy. Mabey because of access or maybe it changes the way it falls. To the second point you make here... I really don't think its the devs don't care. I think if they could fix all the bugs today they would. I bet we find out in the future that the top brass wanted or needed the money and forced this game out... too early. It left an under-sized dev team holding a beta level game the was wrongly called Early Access and push to retail release. This came with a player base that just "paid" to play a game and found themselves in more of a beta tester role that they didn't expect. And a dev team that I expect is just over loaded, that must focus on the very biggest issues first while leaving so many smaller issues under-addressed. I don't know anyone there but I can tell you... Nobody on this dev team want this. Nobody wanted a forum full of rants, 75% bad review or a loss of maybe 80% of their opening peak numbers. I think this will be looked at by game developers in the future when they all sit around the table and hear someone talking about pushing a game out before its ready. If Atlas came out as an open beta and delayed its release a few months we would be in a very different position. Either way, now just I just poked them in the eye, I still support them and this game. I plan to be here a while.
  8. Beds in PVE are fine, even needed. The use of beds in PVP (used to defend) clearly needs some more thought. I don't think beds should be removed from PVP but maybe disabled if any pvp related damage has happened on that island in the last 30 minutes.
  9. I'll tell you what I think happened. Weeks back you could travel pretty freely along the border grid lines. Then I saw people commenting about that on the forum. I'd guess the devs saw those post and didn't want people freely traveling down the grid lines because shortly after seeing those comments, SotD were on the borders. If this was the case. I think it was to add danger to those traveling along the border without considering those crossing and rezzing/loading in among them. Yes, to me loading in to being under fire is a problem. It's not that we want a world without danger, we just want to see the danger coming. I do think SotD and maybe whales should be moved back 1000 yards from the border and the rendering range on the SotD should be increased to 2 or 3 times the current rendering range.
  10. Something is odd about this picture. Any time I tame one it laying on its left side. This picture looks like its head is upright. You should record a video and show your trap. Just a guess, I think your trap is the problem. I can tell you the system works. Its not perfect but it works. I have a full barn. Sometimes its just moving an inch or changing your camera direction just a touch to get the feed. In the end, no matter what they called it. Just remember you're in a game still deep in development. It is improving by the week.
  11. Agreed. I guessing it detects depth. Maybe it needs to detect range to shore. And from backing in to land, I'm also guessing it detect from a point on the ship other than the rudder.
  12. I have lost a few crew like this. Not by sending them to a ship but by unseating them from a sail. They start bouncing and each bounce they go higher until gone. Work around: Look at the deck and hit your ( , ) they will fly back down but, only if set to respond to whistle.
  13. Cobra look to me to be able to attack right about 2 floor cubes inward through a wall. I've built a barn with the animals on the 4th floor (4 walls high) where they stand, on passive. I have not lost one since keeping them like this.
  14. Many people live on lawless. Yes, if you do not log in for 4 days, others can delete your objects. So, even if your not playing just log in for a minute. Don't know what to tell you about being away for more than 4 days.
  15. I sail around most nights looking for some land to claim. I keeping finding claims that are empty but I can't drop a claim flag on the one there. When I try, it says something like this flag has recent upkeep. If I read it correctly it also shows a 20 day timer. I can't find any info in this. What is upkeep? How does it work? Is the claim really safe for 20 days after upkeep or, am I reading this wrong? Thanks
  16. Due to the claim system many live full time on a lawless. If this went into effect, I be with the 75% that has already left the game. And now that so many people have left the game you can remove many of these. I removed over 30 block yesterday. Go click them and see if you can delete them. Many are already at a zero timer. I agree with the auto delete on all grids but only if the owner has been away for 21 days. The last thing we need to do is piss off the remaining 25% of the player base (more than they already are). As far as available land. I think much will be opening shortly.
  17. We clearly have a problem. Just look at the charts. I have not done the math but it looks like about 500 fewer players on at peak for every day that passes. From almost 59k to 15k. Over 70% fewer people on by the steam chart. I think this is from a mix of being released too early, calling the game early release while still having major issues, being forced to weigh the part of the game you like against the grief of it & a vision by the devs that does not work for the player base.
  18. Doing this can't be that hard. They had this worked out all the way back in SWG.
  19. Why allow anyone or group to claim 2 or more full servers in the first place? Why allow landlords? Why allow the person who gets there first to own unlimited land and charge others? I say fix the borked claim system by fixing the claim system, not by breaking other things. I do agree the PVP and PVE may also need different rules for fast travel.
  20. And if you die at sea for lack of food, water, sharks, how do you get back to your ship? A raft? More hours of time sink in something you don't want to spend time on? They could fix the issues you list in far better ways than ending fast travel. I see the war and claim issues but this would kill solo and small groups.
  21. I think lanes set up for faster travel would be helpful. The down side for the slow ride back home, like it or not in a game, means people stop going in the first place. Then as their game gets smaller, they stop logging in. Grids could swap wind direction. As in M blows south and N blows north. The main map could display wind direction on the grids. And no, that may not be "real" but neither in riding bears, Sotd, gold filled floating crates or daily giant cobra attacks. What we don't need is yet another reason for people to leave the game.
  22. I think this is the vision of the dev team. I think its turning in to a costly vision. They seem to want a very hardcore world. They are finding many don't want to play in that world. And those willing to, don't want that part of it.
  23. The first things I would look at is your video driver (make sure its the newest - update) & your connection (if not on a wire, run one). Then I'd start looking at your actual rig specs. In the end you will still have lag at the FOY but you should not have any or much at the freeport, most of the time.
  24. I agree. The time from rendering to aggro is way too short. We need better warning system. Maybe a warning on the UI or beacon of light in the distance to mark them. This would allow people without guns to avoid them and people with guns to hunt them.
  25. I agree. The problem here was the way it was released. If they called it an open beta we would not have all the bad reviews and rants on the board. But, they called it an "Early Access" and then changed the meaning of the words early access. For 20 years the meaning of EA was the few weeks right before full retail release, when they let the first wave of people in. This is not EA by the normal meaning of the words. This is beta. But you can't sell a game in beta outside of crowd funding. Mistakes were made and now we are moving forward. If the top ten issues are resolved I think people will give it another look. Atlas has an amazing looking world and the basics of a good game. Maybe one day even a great game. I for one still support it.
