  1. Most people only complain about things they care about, so the day people stop complaining about this game is the day it dies. If you really liked this game you'd be wanting more complaints, not less. Besides, the devs are all big boys and/or girls, they don't need you to protect them. If they didn't want this kind of feedback then they shouldn't have released the game, even in early access, to the general public.
  2. I actually don't have that many discoveries now, so this is kind of a non-issue for me. Maybe by the time my next character gets old enough to need the FoY the devs will have put down whatever it is they're smoking and reconsider that giant cesspool of an idea. Or I'll have quit the game in frustration. Could go either way at this point.
  3. Honestly after seeing what a cluster f*** the FoY is I'll just die of old age and make a new character before I deal with that bs. None for me thanks. I'm all full up on dealing with daily alpha cobras, alpha crocs, and alpha vultures and that just looks like the exact same kind of bs that entails x1000. Nope, not doing it. Hard pass, all day long.
  4. Just an update, I did the Verify File Integrity thing through Steam last night and afterward, I was able to feed a horse from all the angles I used to be able to. I haven't had the time to attempt an elephant since then though so I can't say if everything is fixed yet. Anyone having this issue might give that a shot and see if it helps.
  5. Yeah, it does seem like a rather obvious thing to have, as "raising the colors" was how ships identified friend from foe at a distance in the age of sails. In the meantime, you could paint your sail or sails with the flag instead.
  6. And still no acknowledgment from the devs that they're even aware this is an issue, let alone doing anything to fix it. And this is just one of the many things they broke with the last round of patching. They might as well change the name from "Atlas" to "Grow Old and Die on the Same Island" at this rate.
  7. It wouldn't be the first time a bug hasn't affected everyone, so lucky you I guess. But I can get the [E] to feed to pop up and mash E until my finger falls off and it wouldn't do any good. I'm forced to feed from an area that gets me pulverized 80% of the time. I even respec'd into Sneak 3 and tried crouching which I'm assuming is how you sneak and it still flips out and knocks me away. I actually haven't been able to tame from behind the ear on wolves or horses either since the 15.0 patch.
  8. I've also been having this issue with elephants, I haven't really tried anything else for a while. Elephants were tamable with difficulty with the 15.0 patch, but one of the patches after that broke it completely. Last night I couldn't get anywhere near the area now required to feed it before it would flip out, and if I tried any other angle the E key straight up didn't work.
  9. I wish I could say I never had this experience but I have. I've been killed by an alpha cobra multiple times only to have it start destroying my base out of spite. Even in a fantasy-ish game, this makes very little sense. Why would any predator attempt to face punch an empty house into smithereens? AND have it work?! What the actual hell possessed the devs to make this a thing? Mind boggling, really.
  10. It does seem weird that there was no in-game trading system between players already in place in an MMO, but they did say they're working on it so I guess we'll see. There's plenty of real-world examples of "some assembly required' purchases. I typically buy my own computer in parts and put it together myself for example. Having said that though there probably weren't a lot of ships sold as a kit rather than a completed product, so I'll give you that. As to the last, I would hope there would be different teams working on aging than trade, but both touch on a lot of different systems so there's probably some unavoidable crossover. It doesn't necessarily mean trading got back shelved or delayed because of aging or anything else. There hasn't been a lot of transparency so we can only guess why some things are in the game and some aren't.
  11. I agree on the first part, the taming system in this game is nonsensical. That said, you can tame animals in the wild, though it's much easier with teamwork. I've solo tamed wolves, horses, and elephants though. Traps can make it easier, though, they don't even have to use exploits or glitches.
  12. I've noticed this too. The patch broke feeding from the top of their head, even in an empty bloody field, it doesn't matter. There's a thread on this in the Bug Report forum. Hopefully, they'll fix this soon because I get how frustrating it can be. I died multiple times because of this bug. Even when I'm using the company taming pen there's no feeding through walls going on. All our pen does is keep the animals from running around like lunatics and either getting us or themselves killed during the process. But now if they fall weird after being bola'd we end up wasting a lot of extra time and resources and/or get ourselves killed trying to get to the now very limited area you can tame them from. I actually took a screenshot that shows where I'm trying to tame them and the 'Press [E] to feed' text on the screen but pressing E did nothing. That screenshot was an open area taming process, no walls around for quite some distance. This is clearly broke.
  13. Because I didn't want to take the company Schooner for what should have been a simple resource run between 2 islands in the same grid that aren't even all that far apart. But that's just me. Thankfully I hadn't picked up the resources yet, but even if I had I should have been able to outrun a SoD easily with the wind at my back and 2 speed sails, and the SoD shouldn't have aggro'd me in the first place. As far as everyone else that's using a sloop, there are lots of reasons. Every ship in the game should be viable or else why bother having them in the game in the first place? Victim blaming isn't exactly helpful.
  14. The aggro mechanics have definitely changed, because I used to be able to sail my sloop within their cannon range and they wouldn't take a shot, much closer and they might take a few half hearted shots that may or may not hit and then leave off, but not this morning. I wasn't even in cannon range when it aggrod and chased me down. Believe me, this is new and unwanted behavior. They also seem faster because my twin speed sail sloop couldn't get away, which was never an issue before.
  15. I'm about 99.9% sure this little 'fix' of theirs is what broke taming. Now not only can you not feed them through walls, which I wasn't doing anyway, but you also can't feed them anywhere except either from directly in front of them, which is suicide or underneath their head which can equally be as suicidal. So we traded something that was basically a non-issue for us tamers for a major one that probably isn't going to be addressed any time soon.
  16. We've seen this too. Not only are they over spawning and clustering, they're back to being hyper aggressive and engaging from a much longer range. My unarmed sloop was chased and attacked this morning by a SoD I didn't even go near. It destroyed my bed, killed me, and I imagine my sloop is probably gone by now.
  17. Just like the title says, the spawn rates are too high again and they're aggroing and chasing waaaay too aggressively. As of last night, we're seeing clusters of as much as 4 SoDs and today my unarmed sloop was chased and attacked by a SoD I didn't even get that close to. Please fix this as it is quickly ruining sailing small vessels!
  18. He said he's playing on a private server, so I would be surprised if this was an actual issue for him. For the official servers, yeah, it can be a challenge to find a place to build, without a doubt, but it still pays to explore. This is good advice, and you should definitely do this as soon as you can. I know this game got tagged as a survival game, but it's not, it's a dying game. You're gonna die, repeatedly. There is no survival here. So if you prepare for that, it can be a huge help.
  19. The safest base I've built I surrounded with a wall made of stone foundations stacked 3 high, then a floor of stone foundations, and then inside that put up stone walls for my base. Even glitchy obnoxious predators have trouble getting to me in there. I found out the hard way pretty early on that a single wall ground level is absolutely no protection whatsoever. A croc, for instance, has a bite that can hit you on top of a two-story building. The absolute safest height would be four walls high if you don't want to go to the trouble of making a wall of foundations around your base, but you would still want to build wide. Even then I'd use stacked foundations for the walls of the first two stories.
  20. I have a couple pieces of advice for you. The first is you need to learn the art of baiting predators away from your corpse to get your stuff back. Instead of giving in to the temptation of running directly back to your corpse, you should get into the general area of your corpse and attempt to get the predators' attention. Once you have it, run like a mad man in any direction that won't block your path back to your corpse. If the predators in question are something obnoxiously fast like wolves, you're going to die multiple times before your path is clear. If it's something you can outrun like giant snakes just lead them in a big circle and you can usually get your corpse back in one go. Also, keep in mind there was no discernable attempt made to balance the fauna of any given island. I've seen islands where there are no predators to be found, and others where that's pretty much all there is all the time. So if one island is simply too obnoxious to deal with, there are sometimes islands even in the same grid where the opposite is true. Basically, it pays to explore.
  21. I think you'd be better off going with a couple of large cannons, you wouldn't need very many of them and with the sloops speed and maneuverability combined with their range and damage you could potentially take down a slower enemy while either staying out of range or dodging long-range return fire. You can only have a max of 5 crew I've heard so you're wasting resources putting more than a couple of cannons on sloop anyway. My philosophy is if you can only use a few guns you better make them big guns.
  22. You have to place the weapon in their inventory and left click to bring up the context menu and select Equip. They can only equip melee weapons ATM, not sure if the devs are ever gonna change this or not, but it would be nice if they could use guns or bows or something. Their radial wheel mentions harvesting, but I haven't figured out a way to get them to harvest anything. I don't know if that's for the future or whether there's some trick to it, there's so very little information about how some things are supposed to work. And as some other poster mentioned, yes, they'll operate elevators for you as well.
  23. The only time fire arrows kill them easily is if they get hung up on something and stuck, but if it's lose running or flying around and coming at you? Well, I wish I could tell you how many times I've hit an alpha with a fire arrow only to have it get in my face, set me on fire too, and then kill me, but I've lost count. I agree the non-aggro alphas can be fantastic. I've seen alpha turtles be chew toys for crocs for quite some time. The hyperaggressive predator alphas though seem to exist solely to antagonize players, grief them, and then spawn camp their corpse or eat their base, whichever happens to be the most convenient opportunity at the time. I've actually had them do both to me personally, the same alpha like it had some personal vendetta against me. I had a giant alpha snake chase me across the entire island, kill me, then go all the way back to my base and start destroying it. The only thing that stopped the cycle was it ended up getting so fixated on destroying my base I was able to make enough arrows to finally kill it. It just sat there destroying my base while I filled it full of arrows. This is the sort of thing that drives players away. The only reason I've stuck around personally is because I'm stubborn and this game has potential if the devs would just address these horrible design ideas.
  24. I wish I could say for sure but I think the half walls are too big. You might try either using doorways or two slope pieces to form a V like that and put the cannon in the center. With a high tower and considering cannons arc, it should have a difficult time scoring a direct hit anyway. The only cannons I've set up on land bases are swivel guns which are much more flexible in their deployment, and you can mount and use them directly on half walls. So your particular issue isn't one I've had to tackle. I'd start with my suggestions though if I was in your situation. Just like a lot of aspects of this game, there might be some trial and error involved.
  25. many times their size. Here is a quote from an article on vultures: "Despite their intimidating presence, vultures are pretty harmless. They have no incentive to attack humans and they lack the physical attributes that could pose a threat. Although they are carnivorous, most vultures feed only on animals that are already dead. Some vultures will spew projectile vomit as a defense mechanism, which is about the extent of their hostile behavior. While gross, it is hardly life-threatening." ref: https://animals.mom.me/vultures-dangerous-9282.html The way your vultures are behaving is not the way vultures behave, I can only assume this is a bug. Please fix this or remove vultures from the game entirely, as they are broken the way they are and making the game aggravating!
