  1. I just started playing again after a long atlas vacation and I am shocked to see what a mess this game has become. How the F do you progress in reverse building a game? Rubber banding and lag is horrible, though I don't see how there are no players. The navmesh is all jacked up the ships drive more under water than atop it. That's just what I have seen in my first hour back, do I dare even continue? Did you guys hire a bunch of failed indie devs to maintain this game so you could move the "A" team on to the next cash grab(Ark2)? This game had so much potential so sad to see it completely mishandled. The game use to be better than it is in its current state. If you at all care about your fan base you guys need to step it up or just come clean and say you have milked it for all it was worth and are moving on. Don't pretend you are still working on this turd.
  2. It appears what ever fixes that were discovered are no longer working. I have been able to host a server that others over the internet can join with no issues pretty much out of the box. Now if I want to play on it it gets tricky unless you have a router that supports NAT loopback. There is a work around so that I was able to join my own server how ever No one else on my same network can join. The point of running my own private world is to escape from the toxic griefer ridden community whom this company care nothing about stopping. I want to play the game with my friends and family and not have to deal with anyone else. I have a system capable of hosting no problems. Why am I being forced to pay company to host so we can achieve this goal? Why at every turn are they "fixing" our ability to host our own servers? This was all something that used to work with this game. I have hosted in the past to family on my own private lan and friends across the internet. Now it seems no longer possible. We will not be forced to play on public servers. We will not be forced to pay a company to host for us. Unfortunately we will be forced to play another game that will accommodate our needs. This is all this company is forcing people to do. it is a shame to see such a promising game die while still in its creation.
  3. This is happening, half of my claimed area disappeared as well as several mines have disappeared from claimed area. Either some rogue staff members is abusing power or some serious hacking
  4. So as a reply to my own post this problem has been solved for me. It seems no one ever replys or has a solution to this issue so I will post my own solution for others to follow. This works for windows 7 64 bit OS, dont know about any other. I did not find the fix on these boards. (if it was posted or linked I must have over looked it.) https://forum.sector3studios.com/index.php?threads/workaround-if-you-cannot-join-your-own-dedi-server.4672/ open that page and follow the directions, simple as that. Was like magic and everything worked for my server after that.
  5. I have to ask first off is the private host feature broken? I have run many different private servers for many different games and this is the only game that will not act as it should. I have opened all the ports I can find from the various posts. I have tried the DMZ, I have disabled the firewall added rules etc, fresh install multiple times. I have used ASC, I have done it manually. I also see there have been many unanswered threads on this issue most seem to have given up. I will post screens of anything I can to help get this fixed (maybe I did miss something) but is the game broken or dead as this forum seems? for anyone currently hosting a dedicated server behind a router please help!

Actually there may be some truth to this out there in the land of steam shovelware... look at Life is feudal YO/MMO and and the LiF spinoff(cant remember the name) that launched shortly after YO was out on steam by a separate but yet same game dev team?? or was that separate dev team but same company?? Years Later now and none of those games are any more complete than when they were launched initially on steam but the company/publishers made a pretty good sum on the sales at the launches. I am not saying the Ark/Atlas people are guilty of it now, but I do believe it is happening all over steam.
  7. The hard cap on company members or alliances a company can be a part of does not limit anything really. You can populate entire islands with non company member company members, a hard limit on alliances does not prevent alliances outside of the cap from working together or having an informal non-aggression pact with discord to bridge the communication gap between non allied companies. Instead of 1 mega company controlling the #1 spot on the leader boards or all the land you can now have 1 mega company controlling all spots on the leader board while still controlling all the land. Logistics become more strained or difficult but nothing is actually capped. Just because they do not have the same name wont mean they are not all the same people. EDIT: As far as help or hurt small groups, imo nothing really changes in regards to small companies
  8. Did they also say it was going to be open homeport anywhere to remove the freeport bottleneck for the first few days? or was that going to be a forever homeport on any server? I was sure I read or heard that somewhere
  9. Nail on head... I know this is not the direction the OP was going with this post but this is the root cause. It is not just this dev group, but it is the state of the gaming industry as a whole. Steam is littered with titles just like this. Pre-made engines like unreal and unity give people with very little game development knowledge the ability to piece together stunningly beautiful landscapes and environments, to bring in models or code snippets created by a 3rd party and sold piecemeal in the unity or unreal store. Steam gives these projects a platform to release to the public where the communities expect the game to be a gold released title during the development process. (Not including the entire community here... Most people get it and enjoy the game for what it is) The limitations lie in many places depending upon the team but mostly imo in the engine itself. Most top developers build an engine from the ground up to suit the vision of the game. When it has great success they reuse the engine to spawn sequels of but of the same requirements of the original game or maybe reuse parts of the engine and expand upon it for the next big title. That is part of why the really good games take so many years to be launched. You cant take an engine from a Honda Prelude and put it into a top fuel dragster and expect to win. Even with engine building experience its still a Honda engine and can only be built to it's design limitations. Unity, Unreal, Torque etc... are like Honda engines, built for everyone one to use and maybe tinker with, generic enough to suits most any gaming genre. This is a large part of why you can not have a lag free server with more than 200 people. If the unreal engine is capable of more then it is due to poor implementation and it must be across the board with indie developers because whether it was Unreal, Unity or torque so far I have not found a popular lag free MMO using any of these engines. I am not downing the Devs in any way, they have still put together what I think is a cool and fun game. Can it be better? Absolutely but I know it is going to more take time and with unreal as the engine they are going to run into many hard coded walls to where it is easier to change the vision than it is to change the engine sadly. Do I think I could do better? Hell no its why I buy all my games and not make the ones I want to play. As far as the game being dead I doubt it, however being released to the public in development like most all EA titles it has imo seen its prime before it ever had a chance to be completed. I could be wrong, I usually am but based upon all the other steam shovelware out there it seems to be the norm. It may linger around for a few more years but it will never be an "Everquest" or "Ultima Online" or "World of whinecraft" and should not ever be compared to such.
  10. So this is my take on how things are going to happen when the new systems come at the end of march. These are only my opinions and understanding of the new systems from watching the Captain log and reading the notes. With the next 3 weeks to plan I am sure more elaborate plans will come into play. Players set the home spawn to the server they want to live in and spawn in. Step 1 From here its a mad dash to spam as my foundations / pillars as possible and kill all non friend/company member on site while leveling towards a Taxbank. The foundations/pillars are to prevent other players from being able to place a Taxbank while you are trying to reach that goal. Large companies will have it easier since they will have more people to continually kill off any competition for the island. Step 2 Once island is claimed Set to company only then delete everyone else's buildings and clean up your excess foundations and setup your own base area. Step 3 Reopen the island to public building and reap the tax rewards. This of course is happening on every island on every server so the losers from each of the initial land grab will be behind the power curve and have to change the home spawn island and try for another island. For the casual player on PVP there is still no chance to own your own land and you by default become sheep for the shearing only needed to add to the coffers of the elite to fund their upkeep so they can play and enjoy the end game without having to worry about the bills. PVE all island become lawless foundation / pillar strewn eyesores where those late to the game will still have trouble making a home once all the large companies block off all points of building. I guess time will tell but I am sure this is not far off from post patch reality EDIT: But company size will be limited to 250 and hard caps on the number of claims you say.... This is where you will have multiple factions within the same old mega corp all allied all holding max claimed islands
  11. No PVE claim flags? So this basically means that all Islands not just Lawless will be covered in a sea of endless pillars and foundation? Right... that's a step in a positive direction. Most people are asking for a limited claim system not a NO claim system. There have been so many great ideas purposed by the community as how to address this issue but instead we get this crap from far left field??? not to mention it didn't work out on your Ark servers from what I hear. Talk about knocking the wind from our sails...
  12. So tried to log in today after work and I get this error : DX11 feature level 10.0 is required to run the engine. To my knowledge nothing has changed on my system. I have rebooted, updated video drivers and direct X since receiving this error. Nothing is helping. I have been playing the game just fine prior to this with 429 hours on my play record. I was able to play yesterday just fine. I see no new patch notes or updates on steam since I last played either.
  13. I got some days off coming up tues and wed this week. What timezone and when do you play? I will make the trip on one of those days for any of the 3 if you can let me know what you are looking for in price. Resources? Gold? Tames? Bps?

  15. I am no longer able to create wooden floor or roof tiles. I have the appropriate materials in my inventory and skill levels but trying to craft the item in anyway does nothing. I can craft other wooden building items just not those. I have relogged, respec'd and respawned several times and it will not work.
