  1. It's not easy, it's not meant to be, and he figured it out. good on him, he persevered until he got it right.
  2. Stareing at a countdown and not keeping an eye out in a survival game, is likely to get you killed. Going neked and not having the equilibrium buff in harsh enviroments, is likely to get you killed. Doing activities where you are likely to get damaged without armour or healing kits, is likely to get you killed. being prepared is likely to make taming a piece of cake nearly every time, that alpha lion is likely to bugger you up whatever you are doing. I've only come across the not being able to feed when it says you can issue where stepping closer didn't fix it.
  3. yup, after 10% they can eat from a trough and don't need temperature regulation.
  4. Well on the way to getting the gallion built, mated pairs of gathing tames and a bear with a cart following cuts the grind. (Extra bonus for elephant with it's poor stamina, as you can keep switching elephants when they run out of stamina.) Want it built by the weekend, so we can go hunt the two masterwork maps we found.
  5. I searched my map box for a certain grid ref' then opened the smithy and had the grid ref' in all 4 search boxes. Company mates saying "the tannery's broken, there's no engrams in here" Hope a fix comes soon
  6. Elephants need feeding every 16 seconds or so when taming, if you take too long the progress will drop, including damaging and re-bolaing. They are high HP creatures with a fast tameing timer, so you need to be quick to shoot and bola it. If it's not that, it can only be a bug of some kind. I tamed two on sunday and it went well.
  7. Playing PVE I've never used harpoons, it's a PVP thing, but seeing it writen down made me realise that some one new and hunting whales for the first time would assume "harpoons" would be the ammo to use. At the start there was only balista bolts, harpoons came along later for PVP'ers to grapple each others ships. They realy ought to change the name to avoid confusion.
  8. The reload skills are for you only not your NPC crew, I picked up those skills first time around and was dissapointed too.
  9. I might have figued your problem, harpoons are a ballista ammo used to grapple other player ships, ballista bolts are the standard ammo for ballista's. Check you have ballista bolts?
  10. True, I did however make the presumption that GEM is new to the game (6 posts), and probably does not have the full 45% efficiency or the sperm whale quest bonus. 2x taming was ment to end yesturday so didn't consider that also. If thats still on I've some taming to do when i get home.
  11. Well! that'll depend on a few factors, level of bear - the higher the level the less %age you get per feed. Food used - the better the food, the more %age you get per feed. (honey - best, vegtables - good, wild vegtables - poor, berries - v/poor) for good food on a high level bear, expect about 10-12 bola's
  12. Yep, creatures escape bola's after 100 seconds or so. There is a timer you can see above the creatures name plate, sometimes hard to see as you are generaly looking downwards when taming.
  13. Not sure on that one! If you leave it too long between feeds the taming bar does slowly drop back to 0% If thats not the case, it sounds like a bug.
  14. Make sail points mean something. Make base sail stats directly proportional to the sail point value of the sail. Change the ship sail point value and sail value so you can use various combinations to reach max value. Doing this will alow you to max out sail points with multiple sail size configurations and have equal value, you can now build ships to look like what you want rather than all ships looking the same.
  15. Same ship different stats and caps. There have been stat decreases and increases so that ability is a known. There is a cap on some of the stats so the ability to do that is also known. It has been stated that ship assets are an issue, making it hard to introduce new ship designs. In light of this I would propose making different classes of the same ship. Using different base stats, stat increases per level, stat caps and sail points to produce the following: A combat version: Good: damage, crew. Medium: Resistance, Sturdiness. Low: Beds, Weight. - Speed: Medium A cargo vertion: Good: Weight, Sturdiness. Medium: Damage, Resistance. Low: Crew, Beds. - Speed: Low An Explorer version: Good: Resistance,Beds. Medium: Sturdiness, Crew. Low: Damage, Weight. - Speed High (only suggested weightings, and exact numbers can be tweeked) This would triple the number of ships available. give the players a choice on the type of ship they want, will produce interesting cross builds.
  16. The figureheads are skins anyway, so having them cover a crafted bowsprit shouldn't be an issue. Might need a few tweeks here and there.
  17. Damn, there goes my capitalist fantasy, island i'm on has both too.
  18. I do use a taming pen, but only use temporary pillar traps, pillars are narrow enough to not get in the way.
  19. Most traps is see around are elaborate ramp affairs with foundations and doorways for walls, I find these difficult to use as the doorways are too restrictive at allowing you to get to the correct spot to feed the animals. My first tame this time around was a bear, dug potatoes, made bola's and 16 pillars, and went out on foot. Once I found a bear I placed 14 of the pillars in a 3x3 "U" shape 2 pillars high with the open end towards the bear. then shot the bears and lured it into the open trap, kept shooting and once it was low on health bola'd it, I then placed the other 2 pillars closing off the trap. Pillars are very thin on atlas and dont hinder getting to the spot needed to feed it much if at all. once tamed I destroy the trap leaving the place free of any offending structures. Cheap, simple and effective. For giraff's and elephants I used the same just bigger and 3 high with a large gate on one side. And I had my bear to carry the parts.
  20. Pigs tame on berries or veg and you just hand feed them, no hitting or bolaing required, plus no saddle needed. I've got 6 in a semi-circle all facing out so they poop all close together, press "F" to pick up all nearby, plus with command wheel they can be told to poop, works a treat for fueling your fertilizer production. Pro tip: you can dig for potatoes in fertile ground with a shovel, so tameing with veggies even before you have your farm, set up. Edit: sorry "F" is PC comand, not sure of XBox one.
  21. Horses run fast and never in the direction you want them to. Tame a pig and use it to block the horse against a cliff, tree, whatever, you can use the pig to deal the damage too, will save you a few arrows. The pig will come in handy as a farmer too, they poop a lot.
  22. With the 2x taming yesterday I thought it the ideal time to get the large gathering tames, elephant, giraffe and rhino. But came across a problem, I’ve never minded it hard to find the sweet spot, I used to just dodge in and out of that area and the eating animation would delay the animals attack just enough to dodge free. The problem I found is that the eating animation does not happen very often anymore so I’d get hit, that along with heat waves and I was going to get killed long before I’d tamed my quarry. After some thought I put a few points into “first aid” self-healing and speed healing, popped a healing kit on my hot-bar and tried again. That worked a treat. The healing game takes less time than the time between feeding a tame, the time between being able to use the kit again was short enough not to get in the way. I didn’t have to worry about getting hit or heat waves and the kit has more than enough uses to tame many creatures. Just thought I’d share, it helped me a lot. If you are having similar issues give it a try.
  23. Sorry can not help there, "Hold 'Back' " is an XBox control, the wiki doesn't say more than that. It's the same control that shows you the Biome, Time of day & temperature in the top left of the screen, also shows the text on buffs and stats on the icons on the bottom right of the screen.
  24. Breeding, a few guides around about this https://www.atlas.wiki.fextralife.com%2FControls&usg=AOvVaw2pWW8DAmaDWOOLkxTxdhmp "H" is the PC key to view resource, Wiki say "hold 'back'" - same control as "extended HUD info.
  25. You can on an animal you are riding "F" (on PC). The shoulder pet inventory access that would be cool. Also, every other thing gets huge green writing telling you it's leveled up, you, tame you are riding, boat you are on!! pet on your shoulder NOPE!!
