  1. Not Sparta That Is Three Exits Up Swear to dog I can hear this in my head in Marlin Perkins voice. I would watch this. With popcorn.
  2. What if a sharknado throws a lion at your opponents?
  3. To be clear, what people are telling you is we don’t accept the notion that you speak for console players. The basis for our position has already been stated. You are misrepresenting our position when you describe it as saying “you are wrong.” We are not saying you are wrong, we are merely refusing to accept something you have asserted as being true. The key difference between these things is where the burden of proof lies. When you assert that you speak for console players, the burden of proof that this is true lies with you. You have offered nothing but anecdotal evidence that you have spoken with some tiny minority of this vast group and then when this is pointed out, attempted to defend it with what I would describe as exceedingly weak rationalizations.
  4. It is relevant because you were creating a false premise: that there is no difference between an instanced single map survival MMO and a massive open world MMO. Call it academic if you like, but I wasn’t the one who made a false assertion, I just corrected it. If it is all academic and therefore irrelevant as you assert, then why did you bring it up in the first place? You are conflating Atlas’s failures with the notion that a SP mode for a massive open world MMO is a thing that makes sense. It does not, and yet some people have been asking for it from the beginning, so arguing that the only thing that matters is now falls flat in the context of a discussion that includes nonsensical requests shouted loudly since day one. Does it really make more sense for the owners to switch to football at halftime just because that’s what some of the folks left in the stands want? They were shouting that nonsense at the beginning of the game and the team’s lousy performance does zero to change the absurdity of showing up for basketball and expecting football.
  5. None of this changes the thrust of my point, which was that meaningful differences between Ark and Atlas’s development do exist, contrary to your assertion otherwise. I would tend to agree that it appears likely to matter little now after they have completely botched their original vision, but there were people asking for a SP mode almost from day one, something which belies a fundamental misunderstanding of what a massive open world MMO is even supposed to be, regardless of Atlas’s failure to execute that. If one shows up to a basketball game and complains loudly that no one is scoring touchdowns and you want to see more quarterback sacks, the problem is you’re at the wrong game, regardless of how bad the home team sucks. If ownership announces at halftime that the second half will be football, this might be pleasing to the few folks left in the stands who showed up wanting football, but it is still fundamentally weird and yes, shows a lack of direction on ownerships part. What it doesn’t mean is that football and basketball are the same game.
  6. Nowhere did I assert you have talked to every single console gamer. What I pointed out is that whatever number you have talked to, even if it is thousands, represents a tiny fraction of that overall group, and thus does not come close to you being able to assert what console gamers want. You cannot possibly know, because you have only spoken to a tiny fraction of the overall group. You can comfortably assert what you and your friends want, but that is a far cry from claiming to speak for console gamers overall want, which is what you did. If you think a dozen, a hundred, or even a thousand people out of millions is "a good chunk" of that playerbase, then you and I have a different understanding of that phrase.
  7. I remember scratching my head in puzzlement at the decision to allow private servers from the word go. It struck me as weird and counterproductive to what they said they hoped to acheive. I don't think this wound up being the primary reason or even amongst the main reasons for Atlas's lackluster reception to date, but it certainly hasn't helped matters.
  8. Ark also never aspired to be a true massive world MMO either. It never attempted core features of MMO gameplay like economy, wheras Grapeshot said from the word go that Atlas would be patterned on Eve. Eve above all else in the industry is noted for it's economy. A single player mode can do nothing with regards to economy except prevent it's development, since by definition single players mode can't interact in any way with other players. Regardless of any other considerations or aspects, this is a key and significant way that making the comparison between Ark and Atlas isn't valid and single player mode will indeed be problematic for Atlas's development. This annoucement means one of two things: 1. Grapeshot does not understand MMO development at a very fundamental level. 2. They are giving up on their originally stated design vision for Atlas and instead just feeding the playerbase whatever the loudest voices on the forums demand in hopes of salvaging something as a viable game.
  9. Sorry man, but this is like saying "Because I live in California and you live in Florida, I can speak for all Californians compared to a Floridian." You are talking about literally millions of people, of which, in your entire console playing career, you have had direct contact with at most .001% of them. Does that mean you've had more contact than me? Yes. Does it make you remotely credible as spokesperson for a multimillion member category of players? Not in the least.
  10. ... You’ve *got* to be kidding, right? You were the guy complaining constantly about how the old system made slaves of everyone. I mean it was pretty much like clockwork: Get up, make my cup of coffee, log in and read 3 posts minimum of you sarcastically referring to everyone as slaves. Now people have the option to own their own island and you don’t like it and say the old way was better. Are you secretly all my ex gf’s?
  11. The fallacy of this statement is the underlying assumption this is an either/or proposition. Since the people who fix bugs and the people who design new content aren't the same people, not putting out new content would do absolutely nothing to speed up solving the bug. And before you say hire more bug fixers and fewer new content people, you should be aware of 2 things: 1. The MMO which fails to continue to produce new content, particularly six months into a 2 year EA cycle dies, period, regardless of any other considerations. 2. Industry experience has shown that more people working on fixing bugs often fails to result in bugs getting fixed faster and in fact seems just as likely to produce the opposite effect. The bug is surely annoying. The fact they can't get it fixed as fast as we would like is frustrating, but they are aware of it and obviously working on it.
  12. Why would foundation spamming matter much if the focus was shifted away from land combat and onto sea combat? Let's say that structures are indestructible only if your company owns the land. Okay you own that island, you've decided to foundation pillar spam it, good for you, not sure how that would help you much.... The point is not that Realist's suggestion is a silver bullet. It isn't. The point is that he is trying a different approach to the problem, one that makes a certain amount of sense if the focus of Atlas is intended to be on the water and not on land. It's noteworthy that you quoted part of my post, but not the part where I said there could be problems with this approach. You conveniently chose to ignore that part of the post when responding.
  13. I object strongly to the posting of such obscene formulas on the grounds that they make my head asplode. At the very least put a prominent warning the way people do before spoilers, pr0n and the nearby use of explosives. Innocent people don't need to be exposed to such things.
  14. We are all eagerly awaiting your experiment in the name of science. Also when your hair catches fire make sure you scream and run in circles. I'm gonna post this to youtube in hopes it goes viral. I mean... good luck.
  15. Good point and an interesting idea. You are thinking outside the box because this defies conventional approaches. There could of course be problems with this approach but there can be problems with anything. I for one would be interested to see how such an approach played out.
  16. Sounds like your gf had an interesting dating history before she met you. Paying for them...only expecting one...
  17. Didn't play Diablo 3 so I couldn't comment, but the obvious point would be that such a thing would be a rare exception indeed, rather than the rule. I agree that tames should not be incorporated into the game in such a way that declining to use them is an extreme hinderance, however, there is a difference between pointing this out reasonably and table flipping early in the development process and demanding ones wishes be accomodated NAO! Something there seems to be quite a bit of around here.
  18. Please name the game you've played where the development team removed a major component of the game, one representing significant investment of development resources, from the game altogether at a minority of it's playerbases behest? You don't like tames, we get it. Plenty of folks here do. Demanding they remove them is neither realistic nor considerate of your fellow players, many of whom enjoy this aspect of the game. Should tames be the focus of Atlas? The answer is subjective, but I would tend to argue they should not. But there is a big difference between making something not the focus and removing it completely. Stop table flipping like a child and be realistic.
  19. I still find it weird that the defining thing a pirate does, loot merchant shipping, one cannot do in Atlas because there is no merchant shipping. You can fight other players and then loot their ships, but there should be some pve mechanism to interact with the AI in this fashion. Why put pve sotd into the game but no merchant shipping?
  20. You say that as if I don't deserve both...
  21. *Holds out hand* Aircraft carrier plz.
