  1. 3rd season in June things seemed acceptable, however, I was on NA, low pop and just using it when whaling had a lull. On the occasion things felt glitchy, or, i needed info refreshed i stripped and punched a shark.
  2. I would advise just having a "Boss Rewards" section in the skill tree and the player choose their own reward for PARTICIPATING in the defeat of a major boss. I.E. Help kill the Krakken equals 1 "Boss Point" Also, as the game AND player evolves over time, allow the "Boss Reward" section to be part of the respec process. Bump?
  3. First of all i would advise against judgemental statements. Second thing... Breeding is supposed to be difficult. Its intentional because difficulty correlates to scarecity.. I would advise introducing 2 things at SOME POINT DURING EA... Allowing a "breeder" or "animal handler" skill tree spec to reduce time for players that want to specialize Increase the cost of respec proportionally to level. A level 70 player should pay more to re spec than a level 30 player. This would allow people to utilize the gameplay mechanic they find most enjoyable yet also discourage animal spam...AND allow the "animal handler" time to explore new content. Good solution? Bad? Already tried in Ark?
  4. I can confirm @Luxfere shipyard bug statement around June Island tenet was just beginning to get comfortable solo whaling, he goofed and his boat got sunk. My shipyard was better so i unlocked it and started giving him the stuff to build most of a new ship and he stated he couldn't access shipyard. Had to build it and transfer the ship to him. I didn't personally verify it but i believe him.
  5. @Gomez Addams Been several months but the Co i was in said one day "Hurry up, fast travel to Ship XYZ." I complied. When the battle started we simply had a section of the ship (roof piece/ armor) just barely sticking in the bubble, the krakken was defeated by someone else (who received zero assistance from us), and from just having a piece of our ship in the bubble 2 of us recieved the sub unlock, several levels of xp and the skin. I guess thats what is being talked about... I apologize if I'm posting an "exploit" Its cheesy, also never attempted to rinse and repeat the method since i was capped via discovery points.. Also Im not sure if thats what OP is referring to... @FatalCrazy i would simplify the poll questions and responses, I am having trouble w the wording
  6. Been several months but i was also quite impressed with the response i received to a bug. Good to hear thats continued. I actually got confirmation, explanation and advice to resolve if it reoccurred w no ticket required.
  7. I think nerfing animals completely is a terrible idea. Why not have multiple methods to achieve the same goal?... This leads to a richer player experience. As a show of good faith, has anybody mentioned a "big game hunter" or "beast killer" option as a skill tree spec? If a person attacks you w a tame, you could activate the associated feats and do increased damage or have increased defense or both etc. Theres PvE uses for this also. Another option is, once specced, have it always active.. Nerfing things, generally speaking, is a bad option, more of a last resort or temp fix imo. Far better to buff things or offer alternate solutions.
  8. Ive said i have some major ideas to help this game become both a sensation and highly profitable. Strategies not and never used by any companies that i am aware of. Ive been playing various RPGs since the 1980s.. I totally agree that purchasable skins is an acceptable EA option. Not the strategy i recommend but not a bad idea either. Especially if they ONLY allow EA players to purchase them.. One other caveat i would mention.. This game doesn't have only 3 potential server options possible PvP PvE PvPvE .. Theres actually more than that I apologize but i dont think the 3x solution would "fix" or "balance" pvp more. Less grind more playtime is aways nice tho... Haven't played it much on Atlas tbh, but i had 1000s of hours in various PvP MMOs before some people posting were even born . I personally believe theres more fundamental issues to address. GL. TC
  9. I have the answer to explain how to pull that rabbit out of a hat. Sadly though, I must refuse to give it to the devs for free
  10. Wow. Bummer. Mortars? Sidenote after you clear it id place some underwater fence posts to make it harder to repeat
  11. Yea if it causes surrounding resources to vanish that could be bad depending on the gather rates, methods and whether or not ownership of #s of farmhouses is capped. A. May still work though if it can only farm a limited type of resources, specified by the owner. Maybe set it to lumber for an hour or a day, then change it to metal for a period etc... I'd be surprised if it just desolated every resource within range endlessly. Could also require gold upkeep to keep it running to limit the destruction, theoretically. If its expensive to operate then the desolation might only last an hour or 2 B. Seems smarter, to me atleast, to have it kind of magically attract the surrounding resources into storage w/out actually affecting them. This would be better for several reasons 1 People travel to get rare resources and it would be a bummer to arrive only to find your c**k-blocked by an auto harvester 2 Less stress on the back end (server) having to generate, render and destroy over and over. Simply adding certain resources into its inventory at a specified time & rate would require less processing I'd think 3 As @George Catcher said, it wouldn't be visually appealing If they want the person owning it to be able to monopolize the resource(s) as some type of method to encourage trade i guess A would be the choice. I suspect B will be the solution and thats what the players would want.
  12. I hated resource gathering mostly, the only enjoyable part being when i finally found a juicy location for a resource i previously thought was rare. Also i hated mapping, doing it once, i gave them away or sold for a 10% finders fee. I play xbox and i personally didnt find it as effective as just treasure diving/ whaling and buying/ trading for BPs i wanted. It seemed to me computer players were faster mappers due to quicker sorting and more experience. Maybe i just sucked at it but i never mapped. IMO several things motivate a PvE player 1 Meeting nice people to explore w and learn from 2 Building aesthetically pleasing and/ or highly effective things. Some examples I had VERY high cliff platforms spread around my island so a person could quickly fly to neighboring islands. Some lower ones for quickly flying to the shops, petstore, chicken coop, hardtack facility/ cooking den, barracks, breeding house, brewhouse/ farm area, Capital Building, neighbors bases, traps etc. My island itself was beautiful so it was fun to give an aerial tour or go to the highest platforms and just fly over passing ships shooting flare guns . I paid the entire upkeep so i tastefully spammed the Southern 1/3 of the island w fence posts, requested new settlers to build to the north and east sides and the neighbors i liked (most) i used the tax revenue to help. Tons of stuff but since it was spread out lag wasn't bad, even on xbox I had a gorgeous main base cliffside, w an elevator, that looked like a cross between the Parthenon and a pagoda built using stone doorways. Several other neat or quaint buildings. Had a sharp ass whaler that 3 shot whales Neighbors experimented w great looking custom ships and time investment optimization 3 Fighting various NPC content and general exploration. SotD, Krakken, Yeti, Hydra etc. Networking and teaming up to fight them and learn methods or pushing a Meta strategy. 4 Taming/ Breeding Whole events were centered around this mechanic and for some it was their primary driver. Best stats on a particular animal or best colors etc. People were competitive about it and for some players it was fun. Also they could make money or donations to network w players. Methods and location speculation discussions were also probably part of it. 5 Mapping Theres more probably but its all i can think of at the moment. I personally was definitely beginning to want for more polish and content. Things were definitely feeling repetitive. Also it was annoying to think that if i took a week off then POOF all gone probably Some things that could be easily, i think, implemented to enhance PvE. Dueling-invitational 1v1 PvP. I think there was a way to declare full blown war but it cost 40k and the details were vague, also i think both sides had to consent. Never saw it used..... Instead, allowing me to say "Yo @DannyUK I'm bored lets duel" and then we proceed to chase eachother around PKing eachother until all the giggles are exhausted then when I die its over or its turned off somehow is the correct PvE solution imo. No 3rd person interference allowed. Maybe allow it on w ships also but then it gets MUCH more complicated. Straight up simple dueling would be a nice addition until more complicated features could be introduced Skins, glass windows, decorations etc More farmable sea monsters than just whales Specific wipe procedures- I, as many, am still grumpy that my labors just went POOF w no form of in game compensation The current ideas being promoted by the devs seem correct also. Regarding buying a ship, hopefully it will still be customizable... Also i have other ideas, deeper ones, but i am not discussing them right now
  13. I used to be half way specced into the Sextant and it worked after zoning as of 3rd Season in June. I used it often while whaling. Is it blank after zoning or just inaccurate? I used to get crafted items about 5-10% of the time. It was usually a building piece, i agree a ship part makes more sense
  14. Not sure if youve played any single player but i generally advise people to start there. Youtube has helpful info also. I think theres a "guides" section here on forums as well. Playing on official servers is a bit tricky and this Is a deep game, I would advise starting on PvE Get to a player named island, (mine was named Sparta for example) let them know your new and see if they want new players in their company. Don't take it personal if they say no and if they say yes congrats you have a mentor. You can also try shouting "new player LFG" or something similar. I think theres a recruitment section here on the forums or you could just try messaging someone here directly also. Otherwise you can try just building a small base on the player owned island but theres some etiquette, kinda, so I'd advise trying to join an established group, even if its just temporary. Good luck & have fun
  15. Good Luck with that, these Devs, just want your money. They have ours now and I can tell you, I paid a crap load, so that me, my hubby, my daughter, my brother and three nephews could play PVE together. Not every account was purchased on sale. I only came on heer to see if there was a shred of hope left for this game, but there isn't so I wont be playing it anymore, which is a shame. Good comeback regarding Sea of Thieves btw ... My take on the PvE situation... I haven't completely given up on the game yet, but I'm just not going to play at all until i feel confident that they understand how dire the situation is and take measurable steps to stabilize. Its nearly impossible for them to abandon PvE entirely for several reasons.. 1 Its bad business, reference your story as proof... 2 Players need something to do when PvP has a lull... 3 PvE is the primary Gatekeeping method for levels That being said... They could, theoretically, abandon offering ANY official servers. Make a customer choose single player, coop or 3rd party/ self owned server. Its the model Conan uses. I think its a terrible idea, but, theoretically they can. I think one of the things theyre struggling with is making it scale-able (sp). If they sell 50k copies and after a few months only 2k players are using it how do they bring costs in line?... I personally believe theyre having trouble internally reaching consensus on how they want to solve it before release. Theres several methods companies have used historically, all work, but somebody has to make a decision. Until then substantial progress, imo, will probably not be coming. I would ONLY play if i was comfortable getting wiped, again, single/ coop or 3rd party server. I dont find any of those options appealing therefore i refuse to play. I have very clear opinions regarding the best method to fix the issue but that opinion isn't free. Once again nice burn on the SoT trolls hopefully I've convinced ya all hope isnt lost on PvE, yet atleast... It's screwed up, neglected and mismanaged but i don't think hoping things get better is unreasonable.
  16. The Sextant-treasure-symbols on the map may be off for several reasons... 1. Others may be in the zone treasure hunting as well 2. Maybe a "wreck" (aka treasure spawn) occurred after equipping the buff. Its not a real time type of thing, more like a snap shot 3. I think OP alluded to this...perhaps, by design, its supposed to be a little or even alot off.. The idea being where a ship gets sunk and where it lands on the ocean floor would rarely line up due to ocean currents. I'm speculating on this one.. 4. Perhaps also they don't broadcast every single one INTENTIONALLY to make it more difficult for a single player/ company to monopolize them. Another speculation.. When it was real bad i used to reset character via drowning and/ or change grids. Some grids definitely seemed terrible compared to most. Regarding clipped ships i never was sure if that was a bug or designed as submarine-encouraging-content. Perhaps someone who has been playing since launch and used a sub can offer more concise insight. I was personally just annoyed i couldnt use an axe, crowbar or some widget to break into it... Or use a shovel to uncover an entrance. Regarding SotD i haven't played yet this season but my personal workaround was double-boxing. I frequently ran 2 accounts, a diver and a driver, and i used to send the diver down as the SotD began to reach the apex of furthest distance away. I only had to abandon my diver a couple of times to run away, due to being on a whaler. I agree the treasure quality and loot table was annoying but, early game, for a noob who hated mapping it was a a godsend. I also agree about spyglass. Also i understand interpreting many aspects as bugs because they very well may be. Sometimes this game feels alot closer to Alpha/Beta than what i would personally define as "pre release". For example when you "pre board" a plane they aren't still building the fuggin thing , although maybe @Chucksteak could back me up.. "pre-board" is a stupid word also...(old George Carlin bit)
  17. Perfect Q & A? No. Step in the right direction? Yes, absolutely yes. Heres my question..rough estimates acceptable How often will Q & A posts occur? Sidenote... Shout out to Bluestone for trying to answer some questions on occasion here recently also Ty, have a good day
  18. Grappled a flotsam on the fly while sailing 20 knots,... Once Felt like MJ for 30 seconds lol
  19. A mechanic to be aware of.. Still current as of 3rd season in June.. Every time you log into your hidden base the island owner will get a message "Jim Bob Mcgee just settled in your territory..." I think it had grid coordinates also if i remember correctly.. Atleast it used to on PVE... Maybe somebody can state the exact, current status and message trigger mechanism better? Perhaps logging in/ out on a ship wont send out the broadcast...? If you play solo PvP I would contact the island owner, build small and slow and have multiple small bases for redundancy or utilize Freeport method. Figured you should know so you don't start banging you head against a wall wondering how they know...
  20. Occasionally i used experience lulls, bad luck or possibly just happen to be tailing others resulting in missing them. Then id hit runs where i pulled 6 consectively in a tile...yes 6 once and 2 or 3 many times... Also, since island upkeep was so much, i used to ALWAYS rotate into blue whale territory so dunno if that made a difference. Last thing was i don't think i ever followed the same pattern twice.. Only tidbits i have regarding methods.. That being said perhaps the servers need a reboot or as you said the rates need adjusting or 3rd possibility is the new map has fewer whales. Not playing so far this season so i have no current data to offer, sorry. Since the game is in pre-release at a certain point a bug ticket may be understandable but I'm not sure exactly where the threshold is GL
  21. Depending on the way its rolled out PVE could have some type of trade-route-npc thing that entails battle and "conflict" against NPCs for a reward, like a revenue stream or something... Im not advocating for or against it im just theorizing.. However, as another forum member stated, "how many times can you rearrange the furniture before you realize you need a new house"? I advocate more for rebuilding the house, in a manner, thats much more dynamic, customizable and enduring than the current game model. Just to be clear 1 its not any more complicated than whats currently being offered. Its simpler actually 2 Would be fun for pvp AND pve. Honestly thats a pretty easy fix to me.. 3 As i said the model could provide fun for years to come and be dynamic w NO WIPES necessary. Ive been playing various forms of these types of games since the 1980s.. Its do-able and frankly necessary to make some big tweaks to the actual game mechanics before this game goes from "pre release" to market ready product.
  22. Actually i offered to assist in a overhaul if anyone here wants to go bump my meet the devs post Thx
  23. Wasn't offering commentary on the validity of the overall system, just some helpful tidbits based on current game mechanics... Good luck
  24. Good products make money by default generally... Its built into business methodology by default... Why would it have to be an either/ or propositon then? Let me be more specific... A product is sold to make money by satisfying a need.. Agreed? We agree thats business 101 correct? Sorry not being a smart ass but im very direct in this type of discussion and you assert the appearance of desperation... Well.. If.. A product is sold to make money...then... what should should a VERY good product make? Very good money... Agreed? If you agree then lets take it a step further... I assert that a totally fuggin awesome product will likely make totally awesome fuggin money. Generally speaking... of course there are exceptions, outliers and bad luck etc.. Not sure what the current and expected ROI is.. Also "good" is a relative term..meaning that if all parties are currently satisfied w the current product and ROI deeming it "good" or "acceptable" then, by definition, i have little to offer.. However if help is needed to make this product totally fuggin awesome then I'm available. I assert that this product does not currently meet that definition but that it has the potential and i am capable of providing assistance.. I mean this product is still under development and in a "pre release" stage correct EE? If that sounds desperate or illogical in ANY way then I'm sorry but we'll have to agree to disagree
