  1. That and elephants are far too weak against other animals, I watched a single level 5 wolf take down a level 26 elephant. Granted it had help from 2 vultures towards the end, but still, any level elephant should stomp any level of wolf into meat paste. Devs, on the off bloody chance you are actually paying attention, here is an article on vultures: https://animals.mom.me/vultures-dangerous-9282.html and I'll take a direct quote from it so you don't even have to read the article: Care to explain why your versions are raging psychopathic killers? Or how they keep killing people or animals many times their size? Yes, some species of vultures are said to feed on small mammals like rabbits or rodents in rare instances. But a damn elephant isn't a rabbit or rodent and there is no way in hell a vulture would try to attack one, or a wolf, or anything else in that size range, while it was still breathing. Actually, I don't need an explanation or want one, I just want it fixed. Tune down your ridiculous nonsense version of vultures, please and thank you!
  2. As long as you don't have any windows or any kind of open spaces really, otherwise they'll glitch inside. Or if the critter you're working on happens to have parts sticking out through the wall, or really if it's anywhere near a wall or ceiling the vultures can attack through it just like any other badly designed and implemented animal in this game.
  3. I hope the taming system is just a placeholder, because yeah, it's bad on so many levels.
  4. Apparently, with this game, there is only a local copy of your character. Steam Cloud Sync doesn't work with it. So if you like your character and want to keep your progress, you better hope nothing happens to your computer, because if something does happen, it's toast! Funny how that works in a game they're billing as an MMO, because no MMO I've ever played, and I've played a fair share, works like that.
  5. I think you're right, I've sailed through multiple storms and my character got damaged but the ship was unscathed. If ships can get damaged now this is not a change I support. There is a literal crap ton of balance issues, exploits, and bugs that need to be addressed long before they start coming up with new ways to damage/destroy your ship. I swear some of their decisions are like they are trying to piss off their player base on purpose. That's not a good business model if you're keeping score at home, kids.
  6. I have to agree, it just seems like some people that have no idea how animal breeding actually works got together and decided to bs their way through it. I wouldn't touch the breeding system in this game with a 10' pole in its current state. It's just a nonsensical waste of time for what? An animal that gets instagibbed the next time some alpha rolls through? Yeah, hard pass, all the way around. Take this system out back and shoot it, and come back with a system that makes some bloody sense.
  7. Are you trying to claim land that would overlap some other company's claim? Claims in those cases are just wonky, I've tried to claim unclaimed land that was in between 2 other claims before and it just wouldn't let me. I was trying to avoid interfering with other peoples claims and just take that segment of land. It seems silly, but that's how it works. Or doesn't work I suppose. It'd be nice if claims didn't always have to be a big circle, but that's how it is.
  8. Hopefully, this is a bug that'll get fixed at some point in the future as opposed to one of a myriad of questionable design decisions made by the developers.
  9. WAI, that's how ostriches move IRL, it's to confuse predators.
  10. IRL you might be able to turn a ballista into some kind of archaic harpoon gun but that's not a thing you can do in this game, no. In this game, you shoot the ballista and things you want to die and that's pretty much all it does.
  11. Thanks, it's so frustrating you have to laugh. I don't think I've ever seen a bigger collection of obvious examples of developers that have done no or next to no research on the subject matter they've chosen to represent, so they decided to ask the nearest 4-year-old to do it for them. "Hey, little Timmy, how do vultures behave?" "Um, they growl and fly around and eat people! All the time! And if one gets in a fight, they all get in that fight, from everywhere for miles! All the vultures join in! And they like to eat sleeping people or animals, and if your arm hurts, they'll eat you too!" "Sounds legit, let's put that in guys! Next, tell us about crocodiles!" "Crocodiles are mean and big as houses, AND they like to EAT houses! All the time! They've got super sharp teeth so they can bite through walls and boats or ANYTHING! They also climb over huge rocks or mountains!" "Damn you're saving us so much time and effort on research, Timmy. We're so glad you could take a day off from pre-school to help us out!"
  12. I pretty much felt the same way after I lost my first sloop to "reasons". I spent a lot of time on it, completely decked it out every way I could think of, only to have it just inexplicably vanish parked in front of my base. All the company logs said was that it was "removed". Whatever the hell that means other than, "last night you had a sloop, this morning you don't! Sucks to be you!" Then I had some help building a new sloop, and I just built pretty much a bare-bones kind of set up. Funny thing is, that one has lasted me for like a couple weeks now. So yeah, building a ship, especially right now is a bit of a gamble. It's less of a gamble the more people you have to help you out, but it can be a huge gamble for smaller company/solo players. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying this situation is OK or that I like it or anything like that. Between the glitches and exploiters and whatever other random crap the game decides to throw at you, the situation is far from OK. My only advice with ships is the same as it would be for any other type of gambling, and that would be not to gamble with any more than you're prepared to lose. I wouldn't dream of even starting a galleon right now. No way in hell. I would love to have a galleon, but I'm not prepared to build one and have it sink, or "be removed" or whatever. A Schooner is probably the biggest I'd go, but the other guy in my company started up a brigandine. So that's our gamble next time I guess.
  13. Yeah, but if you don't have a readily available method of acquiring/making organic paste, fire arrows aren't a practical solution. And you know what else fire arrows will kill if the alpha doesn't get them first? Your tames and NPC Crew if they get in the way, even yourself if you're not careful or your aim gets interfered with.
  14. That's what several of us have been saying practically since the game was released, but it seems this isn't one of their priorities. They nerfed crocs and sea creatures which is good, but that was only part of the problem. I've been dealing with wolves and even one is OP, let alone a pack of them. The only way you can get away from them is deep water, which isn't always a solution you can arrive at before they kill you, which happens damn quick. On the flip side, wolves make really good tames, if you don't mind having to die multiple times to trap and tame them, they're worth the trouble. A single tame wolf can take on multiple wild, (non-alpha), wolves.
  15. How on earth do you tame any bird? I built a bird trap and used a grapple to reel them into it, but the trap doesn't work too great the way I built it if I can even get them into it. I tried to tame a couple crows and it turns out the line between having too much health to bola and killing them is very very thin.
  16. God, I hate vultures in this game, I kill them every chance I get. They are complete assholes that find ways to interfere with practically everything we try to do. Trying to harvest and mind your own business? *Derpy vulture flies in front of your sickle* Whack! Oh, you've done it now! Be prepared to be swarmed by him and his six million vulture buddies that just happened to be in the area! Just got injured but survived a fight with 5 million snakes and crocs?! Hah! That's what you think, be prepared to be swarmed by a vulture and his six million vulture buddies! Just killed a snake or 6 that happened to get a few lucky hits in so you pass out from venom? Guess what? If your guess is be swarmed by 6 million asshole vultures, you're correct! Trying to tame an awesome critter you just found? Haha! That's what you think!! It gets swarmed and killed by 6 million asshole vultures! Trying to harvest that animal you just killed for resources? Nope, vulture time again! Something tells me the devs haven't so much as seen a vulture IRL, let alone have any idea how they behave, because it ain't like this, not even close. They're not hyper-aggressive, they won't try to eat you if you're sleeping or injured but still moving, and they definitely don't form super gangs and take on everyone and everything that looks at them crosseyed. But I digress, back to the OP. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I think alphas should just plain be removed and revisited after the game is substantially less glitchy and unbalanced. Right now all aggro predator alphas and vulture alphas do are add insult to injury.
  17. Swivel guns are really the best thing against animals right now, with ballistas being the 2nd choice in the realm of artillery. Canister shot is basically a longer ranged version of grape shot, I haven't used it in the game myself I'm just familiar with the ammo type, so I'm not sure if there's a damage improvement or what the extent of the range and/or damage improvement actually is. Ballistas have a range advantage over swivel guns, but last I checked they also take around 120 alloy, which makes them nearly 5x more expensive to produce. Personally, I'm not sure why Siegecraft takes 14 skill points, or why ballistas take alloy at all, let alone 120+, but hopefully, these are just placeholder costs and at some point, they'll be brought in line with their actual values.
  18. I haven't had any luck getting them to repair anything, anchored or not, with a fully stocked resource chest. There must be a trick to it I guess, but I haven't figured it out yet.
  19. I haven't seen any indication that the devs are aware of or even consider animals eating buildings or glitching/attacking through walls as an issue to be addressed. Hopefully, it is and will be fixed at some point. It would be nice to see some kind of priority list and perhaps a known issues list.
  20. Well, as a player I want game mechanics that make sense. And this one just plain doesn't. Now, if you wanted to do this to get some magical fantasy version variant of a creature, sure, whatever, if it's worthwhile, people will do it I'm sure. They may even enjoy it. I certainly have no issue with that. But for a normal tame, this has no basis in fun or rational requirements. So you can either impose ridiculous nonsense on players for very little gain, thus alienating them, or you can relegate the absurd hoop-jumping requirements for special-case, but worthwhile results. I'm not even sure why this is something I have to explain.
  21. Well yeah, I have no problem with the non-aggro alphas, it's the aggro predator alphas that delight in spawn camping you and tearing down everything you build and killing you repeatedly if you try and stop them that I'll take a rain check on.
  22. The way I claimed my area from hostile hordes of crocs and snakes was basically just a lot of persistence, kiting, and killing them, and eventually, after I killed some ridiculous amount, I would get a lull of peace for a while as long as I didn't venture too far in any given direction. I don't know if it's the same for your island. If you really want to be there though, be persistent and have a lot of ammo. Interesting tip, that fence thing. I haven't tried it before but that could be helpful for containment and cordoning sections of the island off. As long as it doesn't suppress resource respawns that could be quite useful. I've been wanting to tame the elephant that spawns on our island but it always dies horribly because it's outnumbered 5+ to 1 by the constant horde of predators. If I could section off its spawn area, I could possibly tame it for once. Then the trick would be keeping it alive.
  23. I was able to claim a couple rafts that have been abandoned in our territory for over a week, just look at them when you're nearby and hold E and if you can claim them you'll get the radial menu. If not, you'll just have to wait I guess. There's no countdown timer or anything to let you know whether you can claim it or not. But you can't operate the sails or build on them or anything like that. I don't know if this is intentional or not. Basically, all I've been able to do is look at the properties, raise or lower the anchor, repair, or scuttle. You don't get any resources or anything from scuttling a raft. At least I didn't. At the moment the only real benefit is clearing the clutter off your beach, and for us taking away some crocs favorite resting spot.
  24. It wouldn't hurt my feelings if they just did away with them entirely for the time being, at least until they get spawn rates, balance, and wall/obstacle clipping under control.
  25. I pretty much came to the conclusion bows are now superior to guns in PVE in just about every way before you went to all this trouble, but this validates my findings.
