  1. I think your general philosophy towards the game is awesome, and cudos for your community spirit. But why foundation spam.. we had to abandon almost a potential dozen island homes because we couldn't build a home anywhere. It's as good as denying others a game.
  2. I play on PvE and this update sounds fantastic. Everything we hoped for. GJ Jat & team. The only thing I ask is that foundation spam be wiped out. idiots will try to rule an island by blocking others ability to build.
  3. My point was also that bed travel is useless for the 'exploitative' benefits it could give.. i.e. not able to take items limits it's usefulness. But you're right, that if someone is contesting a claim, a bed gives direct access to the area in question. It's not particularly an issue in PvE, but PvP, I guess it could be.. The game mechanics dictate that we are first farmers, and pirates second. Would much prefer to be a pirate.. i'm more of a 'shoot stuff' person than a mindless pick - to - tree for half an hour person. Don't get me started on animal taming... I pulled hair out in clumps last night taming an elephant.... I digress. I'm as happy taking a boat as 'teleporting', but beds are great for nipping back to home base to check on things whilst on a long distant voyage, and jumping right back over to carry on. I'd never want that to change.
  4. It's the foundation spam that ... ahem rocks my boat. To know there is so much demand on land, then to see huge swathes of land empty with foundation spam does sort of get the head scratching. We were looking last night for an island to build a home on, and every lawless island was either bricked up with ship yards and rafts, or totally empty but for outrageous blatant foundation spam. Not sure foundation spam was ever in the spirit of the game
  5. I can't help to think that the bed travel is working as intended. For a start, you can't carry anything when bed travelling and it makes boats totally the only way to carry materials... I had a plan to plant beds on various known 'treasure map' islands. So it saved me from having to take a boat... but in my eagerness forgot that you had to have the map on you We have boats for everything... exploration boat, resource collection boat, combat boat, and an ark for animal transport. Bed transport doesn't negate any of that. Sometimes during a suicide tiger kiting exercise we may crash into the timer, but all other times it's a pain free way to resource on another island / different scenery. Can't comment on PvP, I don't play on PvP servers for a very specific reason!
  6. Recently I have become aware of players out there doing what they can to help fellow captains. To name a few instances, wanted to tame an elephant, and some guy in chat, came to me, and handed me 4 stacks of wheat. Landed in a zone after following a treasure map.. After agroing the herd of undead, got attacked by a cobra, and tiger. A passer by, stopped to help with his bear whilst collecting fibers, helped me collect the treasure, then came with me to the next 2 (also on the island), refused to take any gold as payment, but I did insist i gave some unique materials to our far off island base... made a bff there. The last one was when my schooner got tangled up in twisters, and a couple of SotD... got a couple of planks wrecked, limped hard to the first island I came to, made an emergency anchor to farm some mats for repairs... this guy on an elephant turns up... gives me a set of replacement planks.. Just as you start to get a rage quit on, people just turn it around sometimes and you think, wow, that was unexpected. It throws you a bone and revitalises the enthusiasm. Now, we do the same. It's contagious, someone helped me out, I will sure as anything do the same for someone else, and if they do it to.... it's worth it!
  7. Thanks everyone for posting here, very insightful and full of optimistic assurances! Very very much appreciate it. It's been a very good read. Cudos.
  8. Hey all, Something I have been curious about, and I must admit overly paranoid about as well... I wanted to see what general opinion is on this. So lately been cruising around running our treasure hunts, and inevitably each and every island you have to anchor up in someone's yard. Most often there's a marina or jetty which I feel bad about using, but it provides a safe, and quick / easy access to the island, and once we're done with the hunt, we're back on the boat and sailing off into the sun. My question is on our PvE server, do most people not mind at all if someone hauls up, borrows a place to park up (or just anchors off the beach) does a quick map and be off again? If someone is around I do make myself known, and assure the owners that it's a quick stop off.. Most often no one is home and you just have to take it for granted that it's ok. For me personally, we only have a small base of ops, and a single two sided pier... one day I logged in and shat myself that a huge galleon was taking up half of our port, and we had bears and elephants in our super quiet spot running through our base... We deliberately do not close off our base just in case people want to, but it's always a surprise! The captain of the ship (and crew) started chatting to us and said they just needed to do some resourcing on their way through, and make some emergency repairs.. We actually offered them all the stock they needed to make repairs and some (to save time, and to help them out), they were obv very grateful and we made some friends that day (luckily). As quickly as they were here, they loaded up and were off... But as much as I'd like to think everyone has our communal mentality, i'm sure others out there do not, and heard horror stories of pillars being used to 'imprison' or hold ships to ransom for parking in turf... What do you guys think? are you ok with ships hauling up at your bases / piers to run a quick map / make emergency repairs? Anything I should take in to consideration when finding a place to temporarily set down? (sorry for long post!) Vx
  9. True it's never in the spirit of the game to do such things, but as quite rightly said above if options are diminishing at a steady pace, and these invulnerable hunks of wood are blocking peoples game, then there has to be a point where anything goes. I didn't know about the new sotd thing though, it's good news! but does limit how one goes about removing anchored boats. Cudos for the thread. Interesting read.
  10. I sort of agree as well... I quite like sailing, and as WE (our band of merry men) have a Brig house boat, it's basically a floating base with everything on it RP ftw? Landing at a new island on the boat is always an exciting moment, and we use the opportunity to stock up on alternative materials for cooking up BP items.
  11. We need a benefits system where people grinding their faces off are taxed at 60% and that directly goes into the pockets of the population that choose to not lift a finger because it's easier.. and they get just as much.... they also get given land, and free tames... just because... they're on benefits and special. (we don't want to get too much like real life in the UK though... )
  12. came in expecting a flame starter, but I must admit, I agree with you. I also didn't know gold was taxed Might have to look into avoiding non lawless sectors.
  13. Lawless bases are the only reason my friend and I were able to get any traction in the game. After scouting for seemingly like an eternity of claimable / flag spammed regions, we looked to lawless. I found a deserted stretch of coastline, marsh and over grown with small berry trees so, made a small clearing, built a 2x6 hut, and now it's a thriving port base. Would never have happened otherwise. If lawless was taken away as a valid place to live, we'd be up creek with no paddle.
  14. Also, the treasure location appears to be fixed. on PvE Many times trolls have built a wall around the exact spot where the beam of light comes from.. more than coincidence. I found a high quality map, followed it across several grids to find.... yes you guessed it... a base, walled off with the beam coming from perfectly within its boundary. No way in, owners nowhere to be found. I fear this will become increasingly more frequent.
  15. Yep we only harvest / farm at the weekends. Not enough life to try to build anything meaningful during the week. Especially maps, why do a map on Thursday, when if you wait 2 days you'll get double, and, get more in because it's weekend. I'd personally like 2x to be normal, and be done with weekend rates.. but as it is, it encourages me to have a life during the week and play atlas at the weekend Well, i log in for 20 seconds to reset the timers during the week........
  16. The problem I have is every island, every beach... every patch of sea blocked by walls and shipyards. it's like EVERY island perimeter is just perma-shipyards. It's balmy.
  17. are they the enemy boats there? They look like they're quite close to the land.. Whether I was likely to win or not, I'd have built structures under their boats to strand them, so they couldn't move. I'd have then demanded every last gold coin back..... and if they refused, and their boats still stuck dead, lured my own sotd in to force feed them some of their own medicine. At this point they already wrecked you... the least you can do is send them back hom with their tail shoved up their ass.
  18. I remember when we had virtually completed our brig, a moron parked a sloop just in front of our shipyard to troll us. When confronted we asked politely if he'd move his boat to which he just laughed in our faces and there forever more just replied hahaha whenever we tried to engage in conversation. His mirth abruptly ended when I lost my rag and kited a sotd which sunk his troll-wagon... he had the nerve to say he'd report us for exploiting and have us banned. Good that we had screenshots of the entire conversation, but good that we could have the sotd do what we couldn't in game and remove it. Sometimes you have to fight dirt with dirt it's the only language some people speak.. but if you do it, my only advice is to have evidence and back up that the dirt you're dishing out was warranted, needed and the only course of action. The last thing i'd want is anyone to get sanctioned getting their own back on muppets that take satisfaction ruining peoples days.. Sadly it's how the world works.
  19. on a PvE server i'd go so far as to say it's an outright EXPLOIT, as by design, a player should NOT be able to destroy another players assets. Abusing stupid AI to circumvent in game restrictions IS exploiting. It's equal to using 'special' characters to evade a swear filter on a childrens show. It's not nice, it's not fair, it's not within the spirit of the game. hence I call exploit, not 'griefing'.
  20. rgr that, thanks for the replies everyone. For sanity it confirms things for me! Personal boxes it is; within in the barracks section of the ship
