  1. They're so close to the island too! My raft and the other one in the screenshot are actually anchored, and that closest Ship is about 40 or 50 yards away. If I was in an actual ship it would have been blasted apart. Scary stuff.
  2. There's been a raft in the area I claimed for about 3 days, nobody moves it and the hp is going down slowly, so looks like it has been abandoned. Is there a way I can claim it and/or get rid of it?
  3. Maybe bring in some sort of Docking Fee which makes your ship invulnerable to decay?
  4. I logged in on my little raft a couple of hours ago to find this... I thought this was fixed? If these have been right up to the beaches on other islands - and I bet they have - that might account for shipping loss. I know they ignore rafts though
  5. Freeport and Lawless are newbie zones with accelerated rates of ship decay, to encourage people to head out and start exploring and building. A 10k Raft will be destroyed in 10 hours, for example, without constant repairs.
  6. No idea if you had the same problem as I did one day. However, just in case you do... In Steam, go to the top of the screen and select View, then Servers, then Favourites. Find an Atlas server with room for players (if there's any listed since you haven't really been on a server, just tried entering one) and select it, and then click Connect. That did the trick for me. Hope it does for you.
  7. Oddly, things were great last night with spawns, which was a nice change. Today, not so much, though not as bad as when I arrived on the island yesterday. Three Crocs attacked me on my raft, I killed one then had to flee in the hopes of kiting them away. They were stuck on the mast though. As I pelted up the beach three Crocs (one a 226 Alpha) and a Giant Snake were chasing me. Fun times.
  8. Almost lost my raft out in the wilds, for some mysterious reason. Logged in to find my 3 small boxes gone but the contents on the raft. The raft was under 2k in health. Something must have really attacked the boat in the couple of hours I was offline, and this is PvE by the way!! I repaired things, built boxes and logged out for 30 minutes. When I logged back in there were two Ships of the Damnednear me, one about 60 yards away, the other about 100 yards. I knew they ignore rafts so was just enjoying the view. I've stopped PvP until they get a few wrinkles ironed out, because what with mob spawns being erratic (last night fine, today a bit crazy), and Ships of the Damned having a beach holiday and the land claim system being wonky there's enough to handle without other players as well.
  9. Yep, but the silly thing is they say fill it at a pool for sea voyages. But tricky when you can't lift it. The sensible thing would be to let people roll it along. Exactly. I can carry 5 waterskins no problem, so the water in the skins isn't 100kg each. Definitely a bug.
  10. Some resources just don't exist in some zones. In Temperate zones I have played in there's no Sap, Sugar Cane or Syrup, so nobody has tried Fishing, for example. There's a guy who has a thread he started in which he lists the zones and the resources there. He's my hero.
  11. They also jump from 50kg to 550kg when filled, as I found out when I filled it at a pool. I couldn't move and had to drop it. They fill with rainwater though, I'm told, if you open the lid. Never done it myself yet.
  12. Your ship will take decay damage anyway, so leave it too long and it will vanish. I don't know about attacks in Freeport though.
  13. You're in a newbie zone, aren't you. Rafts take decay damage and destruct in 10 hours to stop people parking there too long farming resources. Get out of the Lawless/Freeport newbie zones asap. If you want to keep the raft, anchor it and keep repairing it. Really though, hit level 8 and it's time you were out of there.
  14. In newbie zones boats take damage. It's to stop people leaving them all over the place, having multiple rafts and blocking the dock. It's to encourage people to move on to non-Lawless/Freeport zones. A raft lasts 10 hours, maybe an hour or two more if anchored. Keep repairing it, but you're better off getting out of Freeport and Lawless zones.
  15. Oh, I thought green was land ahead of you and red was land behind you. They seemed that way yesterday, but I didn't give it more than a brief glance.
  16. Pirate skill, so I have just read in a post.
  17. Thank you SO much. I've been trying to find Sap for the last 50 hours!
  18. I doubt it. You can build on them and that's how it should stay. Freeports and Lawless are just starter zones, which is why they are outlined in white to show where you can start a new character. All the rest of the map is "wild" zones where you can claim, build, get your corpse and gear back as well as use beds.
  19. Utter long shot but someone earlier said go into options and set bandwidth to medium and it apparently fixed it for him. Best info I have seen, but it's not much, sorry.
  20. Ah. Trouble is I don't know if it was bugged or not. Now that the spawns are back to normal (thank god) I have spent most of the night there and, bar one player stocking up on supplies then sailing off, I have seen no-one around. Maybe the INSANE spawns up to yesterday scared everyone off. Space has opened up on two sides of me and no-one has moved in, so I think they are old claims that have decayed on their own(?). This also leads me to think I haven't stolen some poor guy's land. Hopefully. I'm not going to claim the newly-available land though, as everyone needs a break. It's a nice little island, bar the total lack of metal nodes.
  21. Stick a claim down - if someone hasn't been active for 3 days they lose their claim to you. You have nothing to lose by trying. Quite a few player claimed everything in sight, and their timers are out because they haven't been back to their claims. Space is opening up on the island I have a claim on.
  22. Stick a claim down - if someone hasn't been active for 3 days they lose their claim to you. You have nothing to lose by trying. I noticed that the INSANE creature spawns on the island I have a claim on are gone. I killed the only 3 Crocs I saw - lvl 6 was the highest - because they were a nuisance more than a threat. I had ample time to Gather stuff, I even lay down and dug for water twice and wasn't attacked by anything. From getting 6 to 10 bits of Fiber to make arrows I was able to leisurely take every patch I saw. Up to now I was running to my raft and storing things in locked boxes in a desperate attempt to survive and scrape a handful of resources, but - by the gods! - I will actually be able to start building now. I was past all hope yesterday and was ready to sail off and try my luck elsewhere, knowing it would be as bad everywhere else...
  23. The Lawless and Freeport zones are starter zones, marked with white outlines so people can start off there. The other zones fill the rest of the map, but of course you have to set sail and find them. Claim and build, don't claim and just build, whatever suits you. Beds work, of course, too.
  24. Try the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of the page, maybe.

    Salt

I found Salt rocks tonight, called Flake Salt, on a North Desert island in about a foot of water right next to the waterline. About 2 feet long in size, ovoid, many-faceted but with smooth edges and bluish-white in colour. Hope that helps. It will be the first time I will have been able to try preserving food in 50 hours of play!
