  1. Fair enough. I guess my house is elevated far enough out of the water that I don't aggro angry sharks, and I'm too far out in the water to aggro land predators. I suppose since my current house in in the shallows I don't get many sharks, though. But either way, on PVE you can get away with stacking stone walls. I guess the only concern I have then is being so far out that I aggro SoDs. But what fun would it be without a challenge?! I'd almost take the SoDs over an alpha lion.
  2. So I finally got back to this after a break and confirmed: YES! You can in fact place floor tiles on the deep sea bed. In PVE, once you have 1 floor tile build you can just stack wall tiles up to the surface to save on materials (since floor tiles take more mats and don't stack full height), and then expand a house out from that. So, it is no longer a theory: You can build a house ANYWHERE you can drop a claim, and there is plenty of ocean-top property to choose from. I would only suggest this for the most daring in PVP though since you'll need a LOT of materials to make a sturdy base that isn't easy to destroy.
  3. Well, no, a bug is an accidental side effect of bad coding, I don't think they accidentally coded weight limits and sinking mechanics for ships. Build walls to protect against saboteurs. Also, my humble solution: 1) Institute a max carry weight beyond which you can't walk 2) At three quarters that weight you can't climb rope ladders 3) At one half max weight you can't swim 4) At one quarter max weight you can no longer use a glider At that point you could park your boats in claimed territory at a safe distances from shore and exploiters simply couldn't board under heavy load and would drown trying.
  4. Well, no, you are literally playing a game of High Seas Rust. You can't play a game where all the rules are bent towards rewarding the wicked and then complain that there are mean people. That is quite literally the game. It punishes those who don't band together in large groups for protection.
  5. Yeah, think the more likely scenario is the one you see play out in some freeports where pigs keep respawning, but each spawn has a chance to be an alpha and some freeports now have multiple alpha pigs.
  6. I wrote this in response to another thread, but give this a try: At the minimum, if you can drop a claim with ANY deep shallows access in the circle, I can guarantee you can build a house. Just build a floor on the sea bed and build up (stairs, walls, whatever... I used stacked floors for aesthetic value, and a challenge, but you can build it cheaper than that). Ship yards may be another story, though... not sure what happens when you build a ship in someone else's shipyard... The good thing about this method is it is perfect for PVE since, in theory, people can't just come along in a gunboat and demolish your house, they can only put a land claim on it.
  7. Depends of what kind of server you are on, but given that any small land claim as a solo on PVP would be wiped out by Chinese Pirates, let me give you a PVE tip that, based on my voyages, few people have thought of.... 1) You an place a claim flag anywhere. 2) You can build anywhere within your claim flag. 3) If you bring enough materials, you can easily build a pillar (stacked floors) from the seabed to above the waves on which to build a happy home. 4*) I have not tested placing a boat dock on stilts... it should be possible, but you can't attach a dock to a pillar laterally (I have tried).... they should add the option to do so... this would solve may problems, though I can see where it would be forbidden since there is good reason why the dock snap to shallow ground... you wouldn't want to build docks out of the water. 5*) Boat docks are workbenches... in theory you could use someone else's empty dock to build a boat, assuming you bring enough mats to finish the boat quickly. The last two are theoretical, but 1 through 3 are proven. The only caveat to #3 is that I haven't tried it in an open ocean claim yet, only in deep shallows. In theory, assuming you can build in deep ocean, a clan with a lot of grit could sail a bunch of rafts fully stocked with walls and floors into deep water and claim it and erect a floating castle. I think I will test this tonight, since I have one claim currently that is half in deep shallows and half in deep water. If it works, that'd be pretty awesome. All you'd really need to to place the claim in a place with favorable winds from a Freeport and then warp to freeport, gather resources, build cheap raft and, load it with supplies and then set sail. Rinse repeat. This would be hard in PVP, and you'd need to be pretty advanced to get the necessary defenses to keep from getting zerged... but it is doable, in theory. Here is a map of my claim that I was able to build a house on. I only had Thatch learned at the time, but if you have a defense building spec and have canons and stone walls you could build a pretty formidable floating castle this way: Stone walls are not as necessary in PVE, though, since other players can't really attack you, so thatch is as good as stone.
  8. I haven't been able to find the documentation for the server specs, but doesn't somebody have the info on RAM and CPU requirements and how it scales with users? I'm sure it's already been covered here, but there is no search function, so any help would be appreciated. Trying to plan for a grid for private server play.
  9. Thank you, Coggage. That little bit of information saved the game for me. Now that I know where to leave my boat I was able to make my way to an island with a small amount of unclaimed space, claimed it, and I've begun construction of my house. BTW, not many people seem to know that you can build buildings on stilts (staking walls of floors from the seabed up) so there seems to be a lot more area to claim and build on than I thought! Granted, that is really only effective in PVE... though I guess you could build some bitchin defense towers that way
  10. I don't think it is a conspiracy, I just think it renders the game mostly unplayable in this state. I think if I can actually establish a land base I would be OK, server reboots are hell on boats at sea, it seems.
  11. You don't appear to understand what I said in my opening statement, or my follow up. I'm not going to play anymore because there is a bug that is forcing me to relive the first 10 hours of gameplay over and over and over again. That isn't fun. I play games to have fun.
  12. But this isn't a server wipe. There are still boats everywhere. Not everyone's progress was lost. If it was a full server wipe that is one thing, but this is just erasing the hard work of a few people, putting them all further behind. It seems to have hit me ever time they reboot the server.
