  1. A) source? B) No I definately would not call expanding your dlc into a full game evil, and I'm not sure why you would. You pay for a dlc, you pay for a game. You might find it mildly inappropriate or questionable, but if that is your definition of evil, you're going to find evil everywhere you turn for the rest of your life. C) Why is trying to make more money inherently evil? If you try to make more money by harming others or pursue profits in a way that is negligent of the public welfare (see: tobacco industry), that is one thing, but changing your gaming product from an expansion dlc to a full game? That doesn't even harm anyone, and you can't credibly argue that it does. If I pay 25 bucks for a gaming product, it makes zero difference whether that product is marketed as it's own game or a dlc expansion.
  2. Sorry, but although I see questionable decisions, poor communication and a pattern of apparent failure to learn from past experience, I do not see evil. Evil means malevolent intent, and I have seen nothing in this company's behavior that rises to that level. I think that you and I have a different understanding of the word evil. To you it seems to be something more casual, a bar that can be met by a company peddling a product which however deficient, does no actual harm, and is not essential in any way to anyone. To me evil is more profound. I'm not even sure that I would call lootboxes evil, just problematic and concerning, and I clearly view them as more troublesome than anything here.
  3. You do realize you have to actively switch your respawn point to the bed on your ship right? It won't automatically default to it? When you are on the respawn screen, have you tried clicking on the bed on the map so that it becomes the respawn point instead of the freeport? You may have done this, but you'd be surprised how often we can overlook just the most basic things until someone gives us a tip.
  4. You just demonstrated you didn't understand the reference. I didn't call you Don Quixote because I think you're crazy. There are a million examples you could name that are more immediate and recognizable to readers of a forum if you want to compare someone to crazy. I picked Don Quixote for a very specific reason. Cervantes knight crusaded against an evil which existed only in his mind. The windmills were real, they were there, just like WildShot™ Only they were neither good nor evil, just like Grapecard™. They just were. For the record I don't think you're crazy. There is nothing in any of your posts that indicates lunacy. I just think you're misguided. You have decided a company which is neither good nor evil, merely great at coming up with game concepts and horrible at implimenting them well, is in fact evil. If you are dead set on crusading against anything in the gaming industry, which, I will remind you, is not an industry of life or death, but rather an industry of leisure and entertainment, let me offer you a suggestion: Crusade against lootboxes. The FTC is currently investigating whether lootboxes constitute illegal gambling. Regardless of their findings, we know that lootboxes are in fact a form of gambling, we know that gambling can be an addictive behavior, and we know that large numbers of minors play games with lootboxes in them. If anything in this industry needs changing badly, I would suggest it might be lootboxes. Why not direct your considerable energy towards something much more potentially dangerous and destructive, that can have real consequences for people's lives, rather than simply railing against a company trying to make a product, which, at the very worst swindles it's customers out of a few bucks they could afford to lose? I admire your passion. I just think it could be put to more useful ends.

Someone mentioned the famous Milgram* experiments to me the other day (where people's willingness to obey authority when it instructed them to inflict increasing levels of pain on other people, was tested.), and the idea has been floating around in the back of my head connected to Atlas ever since. A neverending series of baffling design decisions and ham fisted changes on the fly to the game's play state leaves me wondering, despite EA, if this is really an attempt to develop a game after all. Perhaps it's actually a social experiment disguised as game development. What happens if you offer a large group of gamers a compelling new concept, it's promise backed by the success of the developers prior efforts, then proceed to erode the enjoyability of the play experience with *tweaks" "changes" and "design choices" that almost universally make the "game" harder without making it more engaging? Can you drive them slowly insane before driving them away? Obviously, I'm not being serious here. It's a totally tongue in cheek suggestion. I mean we all know that couldn't possibly be the case.   8. making choices of priority is part of planning a build in games like these. By design you can't do and be all things. So the only way I can answer your question is to say it depends upon what is the greater priority for you. For me personally, being able to mitigate the management of vitamins and carry the equilibrium buff a large percentage of the time is worth the needed investment. You may decide that being able to carry more metal and sap at once when crafting stone is the higher priority. I will say that on this note, imo the current configuration of the talent system, with exponentially higher point costs for incrementally more of x (vitamin depletion talent, swimming speed etc etc) favors being a jack of all trades master of none.

  11. The consistent word from collective feedback is that fighting SOTD if you have a decent ship is fun, but rewards wise not worth it. The bp's are the only thing you get that isn't incidental.
  12. This. I have all vitamin depletion talents but the first two probably would do most of the trick as well. Put some points in fort, that's what it's there for. Additionally, here are some pro tips about managing vitamins vs the food bar: The advantage of prime meat and fish meat vs regular is that they give a much higher boost to the vitamin bars than regular versions, so use them. Kill a shark and a cow every so often. Then, eat these foods first to fill up food to 100. Once your food goes over 100, the amount A and C foods raise food by decreases dramatically. I'm currently at 40. Damage from overeating doesn't kick in until food hits about 118. So I can eat prime meat and prime fish meat all the way up to say 113 easily no problem, then switch to eating A and C foods at that point. Using this approach I never take more than incidental overeating damage (who cares?) and I'm wearing the equilibrium buff about 80% of the time. To me this is def worth it vs suiciding. As always YMMV.
  13. True but my experience with people who sink ships in order to salvage is they don't normally fully reclaim. Components which are heavy but common like wood or stone tend to be left behind.
  14. This actually brings up a good point. Someone attempting to inside a company could hide log evidence of what they did by simply building and destroying taming pens.

  16. Look man, be reasonable. We both know that irl you can’t simply walk around to lamps and refill them with oil. People who lived during the thousands of years before electricity was invented by Ben “Big Willy” Benjamin could tell you how it really was. You had to take the lamp down, take it to a trained craftsman’s work table, do *stuff* to it to fix it, then put the oil back in and hang it back up. Stop whining to make things easier just because you can’t handle realism in a fantasy/magic/pirate/slowly driving players insane with nonsensical design choices simulator.
  17. It’s been reported that anyone can whistle any ladder. If true, this would be both a baffling design choice/coding error and make putting ladders up pointless. Also I don’t think the Op’s ships were sunk. She said they disappeared, as in vanished. If they were sunk there would still be wreckage, and given that she specifically mentioned they were very close to shore, that wreckage would be obvious.
  18. I don't know that I 100% agree that it stretches it too far, but if it doesn't, it's so close to that line that instant replay won't be conclusive. And I agree that while pirate/fantasy does give them an out (remember we had a pretty lengthy disagreement about this with regards to age a while back), there's a practical limit to how far they can stretch, and that practical limit is defined by the point at which they turn off a large percentage of the playerbase who are here primarily for pirates and sailing. The submarine they *might* get away with. The flying boat thing on the forum masthead? Yeah, no. That thing ain't gonna fly with the folks who want a more traditional pirate experience. (pardon the pun)

  20. Well written feedback. While I have to agree with Nutcutter about the section thing, it's a minor quibble and tbh most of the people posting to general could really use a sterling example of how to provide thoughtful, useful in depth feedback without table flipping.
  21. Extra Credits channel ftw. This channel helped me understand the gaming industry so much better as a player with no coding or industry background or experience. Many things that I found puzzling about the gaming industry and it's practices compared to other businesses I was more familiar with made so much more sense after watching their excellent videos. If you game and want to understand the industry better, this channel is for you.
  22. Reading comprehension fail. He asked for an opinion on the state of the game or EA. You said yes I do and proceeded to offer an opinion on neither. Only if you want people to take you seriously. If not, carry on. Or uses other tired tropes such as declaring they were only joking, or the other party to be "triggered".
