  1. You don't need to place a tax bank first? lol.. damn man.. damn to hell reading cap's logs and believing devs.. damn them all.
  2. The fog was removed so weak pvp players could find other people to attack. And they really don't care about pve players or immersion or exploration, those are just empty words they use to sucker us in.
  3. Seriously.. you folks deserve 90% taxes.. No in all seriousness, if I was a settlement owner, I'd probably go with 5%-10% tax. Mainly because I recognise that noone cares about settlements, noone wants to make a team effort in all aspects of the game. They all want "i win now" buttons, they want to get given all the weapons and armour and tools and tames, they then want to be carried into the warzone, so long as there's less victims than there is of them, they then want first dibs on all the loot, they want the legendary stuff only, because they deserve it, because they've not done anything at all to actually get it. And better still it would be just grand if anyone they fought was offline and asleep.. So whilst 10% of us do 90% of the work.. the other 90% can live free and be happy, they're only paying 10% of the taxes. And indeed only playing 10% of the game. It just happens to be 100% of the fun part.
  4. Some Modder probably will and grapeshot will steal er employ them later on to get it.. like they did with s+ for ark.

I suspect they think that players will want to team together to support a settlement, everyone pooling resources etc, sharing resources. They are probably idealists..who don't realise that the vast bulk of the unwashed.. I love that word.. are just selfish people who think all mmo and mp games are designed around their own narcissistic needs. And that the very idea of paying more than 3-4% taxes is just a no go zone. God help them when they leave america and realise everyone else is paying 50+% taxes irl..
  6. I think it's part of their new rules maybe. Mortors is 30mins. Large cannon 20mins medium cannon 15mins and swivels 10mins. Also reloading with a different shot 10mins.. Pukkas 3 mins I think or 5. Not 100% on the timers. But thereabouts. Yeh I realise the large cannon couldn't turn. I guess you get the ship to do that for you. In the previous version of the game, I did all the sailing, so never really looked at the cannons or how they worked outside of making them and putting them into the ships. Crew or company fired them at stuff. Never made any cannon towers, although I played around making some bulwarks etc for cannonades and also messed around with making semi impenetrable buildings. ie layers of walls, doors in the wrong places, lockers out of line with doors etc ie to make people work for their pillaging. But by that time my company members were obviously getting bored with pvp and were already leaving. Plus there were the weight exploiters etc ruining the game back then. I've learnt alot of stuff in the last 24 hours. I know pretty much exactly what I'll be doing when the live version comes out. And where. Irregardless of if I get an island settlement or not. 50% taxes doesn't scare me, it's just more grinding. From reading posts in the pvp and on steam, it seems they've mega nerfed the game in many aspects, which makes me wonder if anyone will bother with pvp when they find out. Except for the larger companies.. maybe that's where the money is.. I'm so glad there's alot of new games coming soon which cater for 4 man coops.. and single player.. might be time to say adios to grapeshot/wildcard and all of their variants.
  7. There's an issue with the weapons/tools not scaling properly with the size/height of the avatar.. and this is likely what you're seeing. People are often, for pvp at least, making short skinny black female characters, because they have smaller hitboxes.. and are difficult to see.. esp at night. But when you see them during the day their tools look slighly unweildly. Due to the scaling. It's similar to issues with avatars clipping through saddles etc. Can't really be fixed without some dedicated work.
  8. Great idea for the devs to have fleets of them eh? Oh what happens when 2 fleets become 1.. oh I know.. we'll just deny that it can happen. Should stick em in far off places.. let people sail to them to fight them, not let em wander all over getting in the way. In fact.. have maybe 1-2 in a zone.. make it tough, give it a couple of escorts.. make them tough as well. But possibly allow them to peel off and chase a ship abit faster, so you can pull the escorts, sink them then sink the big guy.. but this having fleets sailing around wiping the sea out from under anyone in a raft or sloop.. well, that's a surefire way of getting rid of your playerbase. Personally I'm up for that challenge.. but not many are like me. They could even dedicate an island, every 2-3 zones, to the undead.. give them wrecked castles to unlive in and cannons to shoot and treasure to be found, with ships patrolling around it, people can go there, fight sotd all day long.. and everyone can go about their business of visiting the inlaws..
  9. I bet the snake was as shocked as you were.

There's no doubt that they will try to keep the game as close as ark for example, to try to keep players on the servers 24/7. In ark if you leave for more than 2 weeks, everything you own decays.. that forces you to decide.. do I stay or do I go.. and if I go.. I'm uninstalling. This is what they probably intend for Atlas.. we build ships, leave the islands, sail around, berth for the night, repair our ships next login, if we leave for more than a week, our ship sinks. So yeh, I wouldn't be surprised to see micros added at some point or some expensive alternative. It would be nice, to be able to pack everything we own and put it into a virtual bottle.. put said bottle into a virtual bank and log out for 6 months. Return and unpack everything to carry on playing. This is how the majority of non sandbox games work. I can log in and play my ten year old account of wow.. but I can't log in and play my 2-3 month old account of ark..
  11. yeh the island issue is a really serious issue atm. They claim to have 700+ islands. But only half of them can support a settlement and half of the lawless islands allow freebuilding, outside of settlements, with no protection periods at all. ie a sort of empires type warfare with limited decay rates, so long as you stay online or login within the time periods, they don't despawn. Then a quarter of them are freeports. Which apparently aren't working entirely as the should be, with reports of people building inside the freeports, blocking off npc vendors etc. Not seen this myself, but that doesn't mean it isn't happening. So roughly speaking. 350 islands available for settlements. 175 for freeports and 175 lawless empire like rules. With a possible 1-2 people per settlement claim.. upto what seems to be around 30-40 on some islands, I haven't looked at them all. It isn't really alot of islands for anyone to build on, especially not the proclaimed 30-40,000 people the server network claims to support. That said, there's reports from people who only have a dozen people on their island, with multiple shipyards, ships and buildings, reporting insane login lag and desyncs. Which doesn't bode well either. And parallelly is actually spelt correctly... it is however abit of a mouthful if you're drunk.
  12. I think if the enemy players are not present, you can cap their land in around 10mins. If they are asleep or awake or maybe, have tames nearby, then the flag is contested until those contestors.. are elminated. Not sure if this version of the game supports tames contesting flag claims.
  13. This is certainly a question for the devs to answer, mineral oil is found as various oil rocks around the game, both on the surface and underwater. Mineral oil is toxic, that is to say drink it and you die.. irl. Fish oil/whale oil however is slightly different. Although I wouldn't recommend drinking whale oil. Fish oil is good for your skin and other parts of you. Typically, fire is made from whale and mineral, but whale oil can only really support a slow burning flame, good for lamps etc It isn't explosive like mineral oils. Unless it's on fire and you add water.. So from a realism point of view, a fuel used to make liquid flame/napalm etc would probably require specifically mineral oil. Where as fish oil/whale oil would suffice for lamps, torches and hinges. However from a gaming and generic point of view.. oil is just oil.. does it really matter where it comes from? Wood is wood.. metal ore is metal ore.. stone is stone. Oil.. isn't oil?
  14. There's definitely a bug concerning rain. If I place an empty water barrel, overnight it gains around 11 water. If I stay online for 8 hours, they never get above 20/5000 water. Similarly with the stone resevoirs. If I log out of the game for an hour. When I log back in, my water barrels are all full.
  15. That makes no sense at all. The Player and their company own the island, it is their island. They should be able to tax it as they see fit. 20% tax rate is pretty useless, unless there's alot of people on the island. And setting upkeep to the tax rate will only push owners to try to block people completely with gates etc since they won't be getting any worthwhile tax from letting people living near them. Upkeep should go up with the number of people on the island. This would push tax rates higher to compensate for the higher upkeep. Upkeep should be gold only. It's the currency of the game for paying crew so it makes sense it should be used to pay land rent on the islands. The only interesting point remaining.. is who the hell are we paying the flag tax to anyway?
  16. Yeh you need to set the wheel to specifics and the wheel is utterly useless. Like why can't you just set it to aggressive animals? Instead of ALL wild.. It's a stupid design from Ark, same problem there with autocannon etc. Better to set them up and use em manually. I used my puckle for shooting fish.. wasn't much fun. There is a plant turret in Ark that shoots stuff at a distance and you can load it with millions of shots worth.. it's pretty useful. Both in pve and to a degree in pvp.
  17. Yeh well I tend to play like I know what I'm doing, then I forget.. then I remember, then I forget again. The pin codes work for people who are just casual pirates really, if you want to cheat in a game, it's your own fun you're ruining really. I tried guessing some guys code for about 30mins with no luck.. tried all the obvious ones.. 1111, 2222, 1234..4321.. etc To no avail. I'd make a shit thief. Well actually I'm quite a good shit thief, but then that's lying on the ground usually. Even I can steal that. I prefer playing in a company, then I can tell people what we need.. and they go and get it. I did try placing a foundation with a cannon on it outside someones house on a non settlement island. Even loaded the cannon, but when it came to shooting his house.. the pver in me just wouldn't let me do it. (It occurs to me after reading the posts in the pvp forums, I might not have been able to even fire it..but I didn't even do that.) How would I feel logging in to a busted down wall and all my stuff smashed.. So I dropped the pillers under my base, destroying it and let my tames go.. well I removed my ownership of them at any rate. Swam to bottom of the sea with all my guns etc and logged out. Good bye pvp.. but it's not me. I tried the manual pvp thing.. ran upto a guy, he ran away and hid in his house. I gave up at that point and went home.
  18. I think some of the islands/zones are not settlement enabled. The power stone islands aren't either. I guess most of the map can take settlements, even the old freeports, but there's a few that are still classed as...i've forgotten the word now... pluh.. It could be you landed on one of the not enabled islands and that's what it meant by not valid, or maybe you were trying to place the flag in an invalid place?
  19. There.. Everything goes wrong at my end. I spend more time correcting my own posts than I do writing them.
  20. What? you posts Helloooo and that was it.. try posting first. Then scolding.
  21. I expect that'll be it for awhile. Later when the main game is setup, they'll maybe do random islands and stuff, the problem with random stuff is trying to get not random stuff to work on it properly. So expect premade islands for the time being. And yeh i hate the lack of fog of war etc.. ruins the game really everyone seeing everyone else. No hide n seek at all.
  22. And I've received your feedback on my posts too.. Now shove off.. And I think you should be able to make a max 99% tax. With no minimum.
  23. I take it's like the behemoths in ark then.. got a piccy? The ark ones look like something out of a king kong movie.
