  1. Sometimes the animal will have a thing above its head that says it's in the wrong biome to breed. This is what hes talking about when he says wrong zone. I have only noticed it when we are transporting animals across the sea.
  2. If you have a smithy why would you need 3 sets of tools when you can repair your tools? Why do you have so much stuff on your raft at all? All you need is a bed, if you die from food or vitamins, respawn on the raft. You have an extremely excessive amount of stuff. You can get all of that when you hit land. Should take about 30 minutes at the most to get your raft ready to sail at the Freeport and be on your way.
  3. I dont envy your wife friendo
  4. I think we will have to agree to disagree my friend, I think players should be held accountable for violating rules.
  5. The people in charge of providing the service decide where the line is. You have a fundamental lack of understanding of what the free speech amendment entitles you to do. You cant just go on any website and say literally anything. If I were to type up a forum post and just spam the N word 100 times, do you think I would be protected under freedom of speech? Would people just ignore it or shame me and move on? There are EXPLICIT guidelines on these forums that would see that post removed and me probably banned. So how do you not understand the difference between following the rules of a service you are participating in and the amendment of free speech?
  6. Anyone who claims "this is the internet get over it" as an excuse to justify racist behavior doesnt really have a firm understanding of how the internet works. When you take part in using a service on the internet, you are also agreeing to follow the community rules and guidelines set forth by that service. These forums, steam, all your social media platforms and YouTube, and thousands of other independent websites all have rules that you agree to follow when you sign up and log in. They are all different. If you want to be racist, start your own website, blog, or private server. Other than that, you dont have free reign to do whatever you want, and you certainly dont have free reign to tell other people how they should feel about it.
  7. You are just wrong, there are explicit rules. Just because you view the game as a way to vent real life frustrations in an unhealthy and aggravated manner doesnt mean a thing. If you think the real world is so bad, and people are so shitty, why would you condone that same behavior in your "escape from the real world"? Sure, people have plenty of freedom on the internet. Start your own website, blog, or host your own private server and be as racist and "free" as you want all day. But when you use a service like steam, or even post on these forums, or take part in any of thousands of services including social media platforms, you agree to follow the guidelines set forth by that specific service. And they are all different. So dont come at me with a one size fits all "freedom on the internet" argument to justify shitty behavior because I'm not buying it.
  8. I agree with some people on here. The cage and handcuffs are supported by the game. While it sucks, I have no issue with it. What I have issue with is them making demands of a sexual nature to negotiate your release. This is unacceptable in an mmo. Where are the clearly stated rules dictating what is appropriate in game behavior? Where is a report system to get a moderator to review your case to see if a rule has been violated? Where are the in game moderators at all? I'm tired of seeing racist players threatening people with real life rape and violence. These are violations of steams community guidelines, and this is a steam game. Wildcard needs to enforce an minimum acceptable standard of behavior like any other mmo would do. By all means trap somebody in a cage and ransom them for resources, land claims, or anything else that is supported within the game rules. But harassment is harassment.

    Free speech

    Sorry I misunderstood

The problem is there are no moderators for in game behavior and no in game report system. Hell, I challenge anybody to find me what the actual official rules are for what is acceptable language in game. There are players on my server who are extremely racist, drop the N word constantly, and threaten people with real life threats and rape. It's true that it's not our place to silence others. But there should be moderators whose job it is do so when they cross a clear line. But where are they? How do we contact them so they can review the behavior and take appropriate action? Its ridiculous that its non existent in a game that claims to be an mmo.
  11. You will eventually starve. Speed it up by depleting your stamina by jumping, punching, sprinting. It will eat through your food reserves.
  12. Speed sails will give you more speed, handling sails are better at catching the wind at unfavorable angles and they turn much faster. Also weight is a factor. For some reason your speed is determined by the percent total weight. Which means increasing max weight when leveling your sloop while keeping the load the same will increase your speed. A 1000kg/3000kg sloop will move faster then a 1000kg/2000kg sloop. I have never tested weight instead of speed sails but I dont think it is a good tradeoff from what I have heard secondhand.
  13. The question I have is simple but crucial. How do we report harassment? Where are the proper channels for this? What exactly are the rules for behavior in the ingame community and where are they stated? And I'm not just talking about somebody taking a claim within the confines of the rules. I play on NA PvE. I'm talking about players using cheats or exploits to specifically target other players and run their experience. I'm also talking about real verbal harassment and threats. We have a company on our server that are always talking about raping everybody and dropping the N word constantly. Flaming players, exploiting, verbally harassing, and threatening real life harm are all very clear violations of steam's rules. As a steam game, Atlas falls under that purview and these rules need to be enforced. As an mmo, its crucial to have these rules clearly stated and hold offenders accountable. I recently read a statement by Wildcard co founder Jeremy Stieglitz that stated such: "it's easy to lose sight of the big picture, which ought to start and end with communication to the players". Well I would love to see them back up this statement. I have contacted jatiesh and atlas on twitter. I have posted the screenshots of the behavior and the harassment on the forums. It is literally impossible to talk to a real person from the wildcard team. Where is the communication? The forum moderators do not post or acknowledge anything. And even if they did, the articles of agreement state that the moderators have no power to enforce anything in game. But why cant they refer me to somebody who can? Why is there no in game moderation team? Just tell me where to go and I will go there!
  14. I would document any griefing admissions in the chat with screenshots and hold onto them. What this game sorely needs right now is a report system for griefers or verbal harassment, and community managers. We have a company on our server who are always talking about raping everybody and dropping the n word constantly. Not to mention griefing and exploiting. We have posted the screenshots on the forums, but why is there no official way report this behavior? I read a statement by wildcard co-founder Jeremy Stieglitz recently: "It's easy to lose sight of the big picture, which ought to start and end with communication to the players." I would love to see some real changes to follow through on this statement. The communication between players and developers is lacking right now. I understand they are prioritizing server and stability issues. But they need to continue to communicate with us to acknowledge other player concerns. Posting on the forums where you dont know if anybody even reads it is an imperfect system. I believe its vital for the community that players feel heard.
  15. Also taming is amazing for gathering. And you dont have to invest too many points to unlock tier 2 riding which will let you ride most basic animals like bears or tigers or elephants with a saddle. Taming can help you cut your farming time down when you dont have a company to help. Just another suggestion.
  16. Well unfortunately I dont think you're gonna find a spec that covers everything you wanna do playing single player. The game is created in a way that caters to groups who can diversify their skills to learn everything. However I can give you some advice that may help you get the skills you need to play alone. First off there are plenty of 1 and 2 point skills that aren't gonna cost you much. You can safely take most of the basics in each tree. Playing alone is going to mandate that you at least spend some points to unlock seamanship through crafting. I wouldn't bother going too far in seamanship, as you probably wont be able to crew anything bigger than a sloop or schooner alone. It's unlikely you will ever be able to fight army of the damned ships alone, driving and manning sails and cannons at the same time, so you may want to skip artillery altogether and outrun and avoid them. Investing in metal tools as an absolute must. As for combat, pick a weapon type and stick with it, but dont over invest. You will need your points for other trees. So just learn the first skill in bows, or melee (1h or 2h) and save the rest of your points for crafting. Firearms are gonna cost you major points so avoid that. Fire arrows are on the expensive side (8 points) but can help you farm alphas for some easy levels, so there's a tradeoff. I would avoid expensive quality of life skills like vitamin depletion 2 and 3, water temperature 2 and 3, maybe even swim speed 2 and 3. This would go for other passives as well, like higher levels of sneaking in taming, or the extra visibility on treasure maps or flotsam. Passives are gonna be major point sinks in general, only take them to get to the crafting you want. Unlocking all your crafting stations like loom, forge, maybe even grill and larder, are gonna be your priority. If you get all the points to build the buildings, crafting stations, shipyards and ship parts that you think you're gonna need, then you can invest any leftover points in those juicy passive buffs. Hope this helps and good luck out there alone.
  17. I feel that they could at least communicate and acknowledge whether some of this stuff is working as they intended, or if they have plans to fix it but are prioritizing other issues first. Like its great imo that they fixed the repair hammer killing other players, but nowhere in any patch notes or dozens of forum threads complaining about it did they ever tell us they knew it was a problem and were going to act on it. They could really stand to invest in some sort of community managers in the vein of blizzards blue posters. Somebody to represent the company, direct people to the proper forums for their threads, weigh in on topics, and let the players feel heard.
  18. Is there plans to implement a system where we can report this behavior officially? 95% of the players in our tile get along and are helpful, its not great when you have players spouting racist garbage. This is not this guys first time, if I had screenshots of the others I would share.
  19. I hope so, my company and I are afraid to log off or go exploring and see new content for fear of losing the rest of our base. It sucks right now
  20. The 3 day protection is straight up not working in many cases. Some people say you need to replace the claim flag because it doesn't work retroactively. I can confirm that even doing so doesn't guarantee you protection from getting your claim stolen. I would love to see them fix or at the very least acknowledge this issue. It's near impossible to hold a claim if you're not online 24/7 like some of these companies. This is not even mentioning other exploits that players can use to steal your claim, even if you log out inside of it to contest them. They can destroy your buildings and straight up kill your sleeping characters. There is PVP on the PVE servers for some reason. It sucks that it only takes them 30 minutes to screw you instead of an hour and a half now.
  21. This is AFTER the 3 day claim protection was supposedly introduced, but still doesnt work even after replacing the flags. Without that protection, players who are offline have no recourse for defending their land from exploiters. Logging out in your claim in a safe building will not even stop them anymore. There is PVP on the PVE servers.
  22. Griefers have come up with creative loopholes and exploits to claim peoples territory even after the recent changes which are SUPPOSED to give you 3 days of protection. I will provide screenshots to show proof of this. They can destroy your buildings and kill your sleeping players. This cannot be allowed under any circumstances on a PVE server. The 3 day protection simply DOES NOT WORK. Even replacing the flag has not provided us with protection from having our territory stolen. If you are not online nonstop then you will have your claim stolen. Sleeping in the claim is not good enough. Logging out is a death sentence for your land. I love the game but am getting frustrated! I want to know when these exploits will be addressed, fixed, or even acknowledged by the developers. It is becoming very old to deal with these people who are online 24/7 looking to steal your claims and destroy your stuff that you have worked hard for.
  23. The 3 day protection simply doesnt work on some claims, even after replacing them after the changes went through. Couple with a some additional exploits, people are able to steal claims right out from under you unless you are online nonstop to contest. Forget about sailing away and exploring because they will steal your claim then. Even sleeping in the claim doesnt help as players have found ways to destroy your buildings and kill you even on PVE servers. Under no circumstance should other players be able to destroy your buildings and kill your sleeping players on a PVE server. It is ridiculous. I want to know when these bugs and exploits will be acknowledges and addressed. This too, the fact that water claims are like 3x the size of a land claim, and can for some reason completely overlap and envelop your territory, replacing the flag isnt even an option sometimes.
  24. This is continuing to happen to us with these same players, the south sea slavers. They should not be able to contest the claim flags for 3 days according to the patch notes but no matter how many times we replace the flags they are constantly trying to take our land. We have to have somebody contesting or logged out there at all times, and we don't play often enough to do this within reason. It is ruining our game right now. How am I supposed to stop these guys from taking our stuff? And what happens when they kill us with repair hammers when we are offline again?
