  1. You sir are a master. Fantastic pointer.
  2. 100% agree, I for one love survival aspect. There's super synergy between some of the construction, hunting & farming trees that are unreachable. Some players like the open seas and blast each other... but I have always liked the farming and manufacturing side of these games. Give me metals to mine, give me trees to fell, give me fields to tend, and I'm good right there. The skill tree feels way too artificially restrictive.
  3. My general advice now is to find a friendly private server. It's a different game.
  4. Alrighty folks, I did heed some advice here and I have to say that my game has dramatically improved. I decided to bite the big one and join a private server. I must say, my experience has just improved 10 fold. I dare say, I’m ‘almost’ enjoying things now! Almost, due to having such a rough time lately, I take a while for blood pressure to calm. I have land, I have an area to call home, I can build, explore… I’m beginning to see what life in Atlas is like. Not got to the ship part yet, but then, as an Ark player I do like my survival play, and, so far the mechanics haven’t unsatisfied me. My valuable lesson is that whilst the game doesn’t fail me now, playing on an official server is not the ideal place to actually see the game for what it is. Atlas feels like a ‘slow’ game, but when fast loss mechanics are in place the whole concept unravels. I can see why people are so angry. Thankyou private servers.
  5. On a PvP server I completely agree. On a PvE server? Not so sure. I should atleast be able to have a bed on land somewhere, and storage so that each time I log in I don't start from zero.
  6. I thonk I rather git pretty gud at thumping trees for wood these days
  7. I'm just trying to find 'A' bit of land... Somewhere! haven't even got past metal tools yet, a storage box and bed on land would would be a dramatic in game pace for me about now. A sloop is something wild dreams are made of... That's like a lottery win.
  8. then... Last night sat down for a good bash, got a raft (after consecutively every day losing stuff).. Finally got my stuff together and headed out on a raft. Hauled up on land, couldn't find any non claimed lands.. so after exploring several islands, and encountering zero claim turf, it was late so went to bed. Just hooked myself up with an Irish coffee, and decided to head out in search of more fresh pastures. What happened? Log in: dead. Oh ok nps. Spawn on raft bed. Spawned. Holy goat there's 4 crocs a couple of wolves and some snakes camping me. so immediate death (absolutely immediate).. waited 1 minute, re-spawned in hopes I could at least leg it and draw the welcome party away. No. Spawn - dead. Then I tried again. Spawn - dead. Gave it a few minutes. Tried again, DEAD again, but this time, the welcome wagon took my bed. So what happens now? It's back to HOME region, with nothing, and back to thumping trees for wood. This is a routine of gameplay now that is getting OLD. Every time I play atlas I start from ZERO, from scratch. The furthest I got once was metal tools, and now, back to thumping trees for a stone pick. Excuse me whilst I refrain from writing a negative review, it'll would have been one of many reflective game experiences that players are having. Why do I log on each and every time from scratch? Probably because each time I kid myself that this time will be different. My conclusion is the game is UNPLAYABLE. Frustrating. Fruitless and overwhelmingly aggravating. Cudos for getting my £20 though. At the moment I feel robbed of 5 starbucks coffees. Thy'd probably be better for my blood pressure tbh. Next time I log in to play, at least I have the assurance that I will be wasting several hours and have to restart from scratch again following logging off. That I guess is one consistent thing Atlas has to offer. No further emotions left to give. Who am I kidding though. This post'll will achieve less than a fart in a cat 5 hurricane... or rather, achieve less than a 5 hour game session on Atlas. /Vx
  9. Doesn't matter if it's 50x gathering rates. With no land grabs up for... grabs, it's pointless.
  10. Well, just spent 3 hours this evening rafting out trying to find a shred of beach to claim. Nothing. Not a scrap of unclaimed land to be found. I don't think I should have to start PvPing on a PvE server to get a small bit of land, so ho hum. *shrugs* (in lofty resignation for another fruitless play session). Right now I'm dead on a beach somewhere, zerged by snakes.
  11. I can tell you back in the day when pirates roamed, everyone was racist. the only difference was there were no bureaucrats telling people what they can and can't say.
  12. Rent a private server. Job done. This land claim stuff is just the tip of the iceberg, griefing and trolling is all to come.. There'll be something every other day that breaks the game for many.
  13. Private server. One thing I have learned is that official PvE servers DO NOT WORK, and I have daily, learned the lesson that other players detract from the PvE game I'm trying to play. No fault of the players, just awful game design, which can only be 'fixed' by renting a server, which for me is worth every penny.
  14. yeah it's just an example of how the meaning of 'fun' varies between players. That Arkadya clan shouldn't be anywhere near a PVE server.
  15. Happens to me daily to. it's already old. Just logged in, 25 seconds later I logged out.. cba to start punching trees again. Not for the 4th or 5th day in a row now. People wonder why I'm so buckled under stress from this... game.
  16. Love the concept and the potential. Right now it's a waste of time for reasons I stated in another post. If you were me, and you just went through what I did, you'd have no hair like me, post tearing it out in frustration. Ofc I play Atlas, just paid £20 for it. Past the 2h refund window, so I may as well passionately voice what's needed to stop me faceplanting hy head on a sharp implement so close to NYE. New Years resolution.... Purchase ATLAS private server.. for sake of sanity, and prevent further anger driven forum posts.
  17. Yeah it's all BS, 3 days now and I have started from nothing again at freeports. Today after a stint until 4am, I log on and poof all gone. Tonight is the first night I have logged on to Atlas, realised I have NOTHING (again), and logged off. Log on --> log off all of 15 seconds. No atlas tonight, I just can't cope with the anger building up in the pit of my stomach. Unplayable.
  18. Well have to voice frustration somewhere. Two nights ago got swarmed by a wash of giant snakes. Lost my raft, lost my worldly possessions. Remained calm.... Last night, took a deep breath....started from home island from scratch, spent until 3am collect resource to go on a raft trip. Just logged in, raft gone along with an evenings worth of material collection. Angry right now doesn't cut it. Infact no emotion cuts it. I'm without emotion. There are a number of things that HAS to change. 1) you don't lose your crap when you die in starter zones. That's bad. 2) remove raft / ship decay whilst in safe zones. 3) sort out the land claim. 4) sort out the creature zerg when you land on a beach somewhere. I died to a swarm of 9 giant snakes? what is that about? 5) PvE is supposed to be PvE. Why is it players are waiting for me to die, then looting my body before I can spawn back and collect my stuff (just angering me further) It's beyond mind boggling right now. Decided to rent a server. Right now regular servers are unplayable, or, so infuriating that I can't handle the wasted time.
  19. I wish! I have been so frustrated with Atlas, that if the saves were local I'd 'edit' the bejeez out of them......
  20. bumping in the vain hope someone is in the knowledge to help me to understand how to identify the difficulty of a map / island...... (without falling victim to it)
  21. Good observation, aye, agree. 1 flag per clan.. be it one individual person clan, or a conglomerate - should be allowed to choose the NEW location based on claimed territory, and all other claims vanish when you join clans or create a clan with another person already owning claims. Would be the fairest way. You only need one claim to play. perhaps have claim flag upgrades that expand your claim area by a small margin so expansion isn't out of scope but still one claim per clan.
  22. Apologies if it's been asked before. But as a newbie trying to find an island to raft to to collect basic materials... is there a way to intel an island? I'd like to know if i'm going to get spawn camped by a large pack of crocs or snakes or lions or whatnot. I have heard people say 'high level zone' but, as of now I'm not able to identify what island, what zone, what level i'm heading towards. I needed to get off the starter zone so I can actually respawn and continue my game, but it seems every island I get to is claimed and I can't get near due to an (over) abundance of packs of creatures wanting me dead. At one point I had 6 crocs on the back of my raft and I still had a good 5 mins sailing time to reach an island. If anyone can give me some tips as to know the level or difficulty of a zone / island is, you'd be my hero. Cheers, and all the best /Vx
  23. 100% same problem for me. Endured 2 hours of croc and snake spam last night. If it wasn't them killing me it was lions or vultures. Clearly not gameplay as devs intended.
  24. Need to limit 1 flag per player, I'm stuck to. Newbie (that didn't refund), unable to find anywhere to call home. Either flags everywhere, or I get attacked by 6 or 7 crocs before I even reach land.
