  1. They need to encourage players to claim less land. There must be a downside of having many claims. I've posted a waterproff suggestion for this both here and in the Suggestions forum. So far no one has come up with a counter why it wouldn't be applicable. Have a look
  2. If there aren't any flaws in this, it should be pushed forward.
  3. Yes, this would also be a step forward. 20 flags is a huge area and possible an entire small island's shore. I don't see why anyone would even need as many as 10. We were 60 on PvP and the used space was about 3 flags. Also, people could use alts which would make the game somewhat pay-to-win.
  4. Not true. Visited 8 more islands today. Most of the spots can't even BE contested due to some buggy timer of 16k seconds. The system needs to be modified
  5. Wouldn't work in the long run. The owner of the land would always have the possibility to revoke the rights. The one who pays the rent could essentially end up with nothing and all their work in vein. I don't believe in the renting system, and the tax system on PvE does not work either. If they are determined to keep the flag system, these should be limited. Because you can't really place a restriction of a flag amount, you need to encourage people to own less land.
  6. Not really. People have claimed more than they need, and there is nothing encouraging them to own less territory.
  7. EDIT: Update: V10.42: ''- The time required to steal an enemy claim now decreases the more Claims that enemy team has.'' Thank you for all the support on this thread! Let's hope and see how this affects the balance of the game Original post: The Claiming as well as the taxing systems the official PvE server are broken. There is no limit for claims, the contest timer is three days. Without having to think more about it it's clear that people can claim islands for themselves, putting 30% taxes on them and sometimes not even allowing others to build there. The taxing system on PvP is designed so that both parts earn something. The smaller (Company) earns a safety to some degree by living on the land owned by a bigger, more powerful Company. In return they pay taxes for this ''protection''. This does not apply on PvE servers, as no one is able to hurt another player. Essentially the claiming system has led to the fastest players quickly moving to any given island, placing claims there without any consequences. At his point, 2 weeks in, it is completely impossible for new players on official PvE servers to find a spot to build on. It's not a matter of opinions, it's absolutely impossible. PvP and PvE are not the same. That's why I've come up with an idea how to fix this, allowing (up to 40k players) to play simultaneously on their own territory. You can't put a limit on the amount of flags a company is allowed to place, as there would be no way to have a really large company. What you CAN do, is encouraging people to have FEWER flags and therefore own smaller territories. A simple way to do this would be increasing the risk of losing territory the more you own. Let me give you an example: The less flags you have placed all over the map (all biomes), the more time others will need to contest it. One claim itself has a fairly big area for a small tribe, and a 3 day timer for only one flag is reasonable. The biggest companies have players on around the clock - even on PvE. Drastically decreasing the timer after a certain amount of claims would solve the territory problem and make the official PvE more enjoyable for everyone. Please note that these numbers are just suggestions. However, the timer should be decreasing fairly rapidly. 1 flag: 3 days 2 flags: 2 days 3 flags: 1 day 4 flags: 12 hours 5 flags: 5 hours ... 10 flags: 9 minutes The update that will take place this Monday(?), that allows the land owner to allow others to build on the land is not a long term sustainable solution. The land owner can at any point revoke the rights and take over the territory. Think about this before you implement it, and may have to deal with it further on. Comments? Ideas? Flaws?
  8. Restricting the amount of flags would be severe. This would be a balance fix
  9. Just different people. That's why I was asking. It's PvE... how can you fight over the land if you can't fight? Lol It's a matter of who reaches the island first. I started on PvP and switched over to PvE only to find a ton of unbalanced issues here.
  10. You are able to claim rafts. Sure it's not the same with ships?
  11. Why would anyone want to do that? What's in it for the people who rent the land?
  12. Yes, but this will only slow down the exploitation process, not eliminate it.
  13. I'm sorry to hear that. The sinking because of weight needs to be removed from PvE. All we can do is keep posting and hoping the devs will deal with this ASAP, as it's really a mechanism that doesn't belong to PvE.
  14. I feared that... The timer should be adjusted. The problem with building on someone else's ground is that they can, as far as I'm concerned, at any point take away your rights to build/use the territory. This means you're directly depending on the land owner, which in my opinion is not healthy for PvE servers.
  15. Yeah. They are a part of the tax system. On PvP you can build on a big company's land, and therefore be safer than if you'd build on your own spot. In return you pay taxes. On PvE, you won't get anything in return, because no one should be able to hurt you. If they were to remove the claiming system, people could still spawn foundations/pillars on an island to grief it. This is one of my concerns. Another option is modifying the system so there would be a downside of having large territories. Have a look at:
  16. EDIT: Update v.10.42: - The time required to steal an enemy claim now decreases the more Claims that enemy team has. Thank you for the comments, ideas and support on this topic! If anyone has any intel on how steep the decrease rate is, please let us know! Other than that I'm glad this got pushed through and hope to see better in-game balance! As I've understood, the contesting timer for flag claims decreases as the total amount of flags increases. Is this accurate, and is there a table showing the rate of the decrease? My main concern is if the timer decrease is steep enough? If you only have one claim, the contesting timer will be 3 days. Do we know what the timer is if you have 10 claims? Without knowing what the decreasing rate is, I'd expect something like this: 1 flag: 3 days 2 flags: 2 days 3 flags: 1 day 4 flags: 12 hours 5 flags: 5 hours ... 10 flags: 9 minutes This would encourage people not to have more claims than they can manage. It would allow bigger tribes to own larger pieces of lands, as well as the 9-5 worker to safely play on PvE with 1-2 claims. That being said, if you have people online around the clock, your territory should be safe. At the same time territory griefing would be eliminated, as you wouldn't want to risk your stuff being taken over in just a few minutes. Also, people wouldn't be directly denied owning more territory. Comments? Ideas? Flaws?
  17. They can introduce a Ping limit, but I doubt they will ever do that on these servers.
  18. I agree. On PvE you shouldn't depend too much of anyone else's actions. Relying fully on the land owner is not going to work, as they can, at any time, remove your rights (and I assume take control over you stuff). The ground has to be claimed by whoever builds there. There is no question about it.
  19. There are many ways to slow the overclaiming down. Restricting it completely might not be the best option. What you can do, is making the regressive curve so steep, that the contesting timer will be too low (for more flags), that people are encouraged to build small. Everyone would have a chance to conquer large areas, but at some point they would not want to risk losing everything within a few minutes. This timer could start at a few days for only one claim, drastically decreasing as you reach claims in the 5(?) range
  20. This is the regressive system that is needed. Do you have any additional information about how much shorter the contesting time will be for additional flags? This is a good thing. One should have the option to claim big areas, but it should come with a price. If we are talking about tens of flags (for one company), the contesting time should be less than an hour, whereas a small company with only 1-3 claims should have something like 2-3 days to protect their land. So the major question here is: Is the regressive contesting system steep enough?
  21. Elaborate. If the boxes are pinned, your ship would be safe. This might, however, be hard to implement. Making the boats unable to move with 100% weight and unable to add more at 150% or 200% as other related survival games would be easier. At this cap any additional weight would fall through. Shame on those voting No on this poll. This is such an obvious case.
  22. This is also a good solution. Probably the easiest to implement, even if it might seem a little unreal. The main problem here is you can use your boat as a semi-mobile base. However, you can overcome this by not allowing storing more weight in the ship. Basically this means you could, in addition to the weight limit of the boat, have everything that you as well as anyone else on the boat is carrying. This wouldn't be too much of a problem as we're talking about a few hundreds or thousand extra kg/lbs.
