  2. So far many have been forced to live on their ships. As mentioned, the weight limit is the biggest problem - especially when growing really big. Even the Galleon has an initial weight limit of 29 000, which can be easily met with e.g. metal. On top of this people are sinking others' ships by overloading them. If this is not going to change, one will be forced to build on land. One PvE, however, I do believe they will do something about this. Regarding the tax system, I am still concerned about the owner's rights to interfere with the territory that someone else is living and building on. On PvP you can always use brute force when needed, but how will the company paying taxes be sure they can keep living there for a certain amount of time. What if the land owner suddenly decides to revoke the renting rights to make it a non-buildable zone? This is why I don't see renting on PvE as a long-term solution. The whole idea with PvE is that you shouldn't be affected too much of other players' actions.

  4. No, you were boasting like a besserwisser. Talking whom through? Grapeshot games? They do want to hear about ideas and suggestions for improvements. That's why they have a forum for this, where I posted a similar topic: I'm open to other suggestions, but you should know all of them have different consequences that need to be taken i to account.
  5. Well, for one thing starting to boast with ark hours is childish, even if they aren't even impressive. I can tell you have some ideas, but not really thinking them all the way through... Maybe because of lack of experince, I don't know. For one thing this isn't Ark. If you want to build a base, you might want to do it on the shore, where you can actually have a dock and a ship. Of course there will always be people looking for trouble with blocking resources, but the vast majority will build on the coast. Most of the rare resources are inlands, which means to grief one would have to sacrifice one or more flags just for this. How would you like to comment this? You can say that people are recruiting others, but based on the islands I visited and talked in global no one wanted to negotiate land or recruit. The devs aren't dumb. They discussed this option and already implemented it. Now we'll see how it works.
  6. It's being fixed, not torn down. If one can use a mechanic to grief, one will. You have to consider every possible outcome. This is something you will learn by time when playing games like this. Your gold/resource cost for territory is also a way to encourage people to only own the land they need/can afford. If you believe it would work, please present it as clear as you can. What happens if you don't have the resources to pay? I don't think the time-limit system for renting areas is a good long-term solution. On PvE people will pick spots that are either convenient or nice-looking. On PvP you can switch the nice-looking to easily defendable. I don't see the spawn blocking as a major issue, as people are looking for coast spots, whereas the more valuable resources usually are a bit deeper in on respective island.

  8. Thank you for the comments, ideas and the discussion! I updated the post, as they as of v10.42 updated the claiming flags with a timer decrease for every additional flag. I do not know how steep the decrease will be, but if someone would like to tell us that would be great!
  9. Because you make it sound like you have the entire island. How many claims do you have, and do you build on all of them?
  10. No need to let anyone build on your territory? Is there any need for you to even have that territory? Do you see the problem here?

  12. I didn't even know about that second part. Not very surprising, though. Whatever one can do, one will do. Also the first part, with people sleeping inside their huts with 10 claims on an island... You can't even place a flag there because it won't let you. People who say ''you need to fight for the area'' don't really know what's going on. Not much of a fight if you're not even given the CHANCE to contest. On another note: We know removing the claiming system would result in pillars all over the map, so I don't know if it should be completely removed. I also know from past experience that living on someone else's ground is not a healthy long-term solution, as the land owner can at any point revoke the rights for people to be/build there - leaving them with a useless base. That's why the ''free-to-build zones'', that recently were introduced(?) won't work. You will be living on someone else's claims, paying taxes to others who have claimed more territory than they initially needed, and you won't get anything in return. It's not really a matter of opinion - it's broken and needs to be modified.
  13. All your arguments are based on PvP. Keep in mind that this is just for official PvE servers. On PvP you will have safety to some extent when living on a megatribe's territory (and paying taxes). On PvE you don't get anytjing in return, but you just pay taxes to griefers. I don't think you understand the core problem here... Also, why on earth do you need to claim resource spots? This topic is not about setting a strict limit for flags. It's about encouraging people to own less territory, but still allowing people to own more. There must be a downside to have more flags. This is to eliminate griefing.
  14. Yes, if they removed the claiming system they'd have to restrict people from placing pillars and foundations all over the place. This would be the best. The flag system works on PvP, but not here.
  15. Thank you for mentioning my suggestion The entire tax system should not be a part of PvE. The tax system works on PvP, because the tax payer gets something in return: safety. Living on the land of a mega tribe certainly gives you protection to some extent, as others do not necessarily want to mess with them and risk getting wiped. This does not apply on PvE. On PvE servers I have seen many many claims with 30% tax rates. This could be considered if there was something you'd get in return. But who in their right state of mind would give away 30% of their resources for absolutely nothing. Not just that, but they would be living on someone else's ground, which would make them 100% dependant on the actions of the land owner. For PvE this is not a healthy long-term solution. Also, if one company quits, and an entire island is free to claim, the first to get there would not hesitate to claim as much as he possibly can. I thought long about restricting the flags; for players, for companies, per server. I kept asking myself What would this mean to small companies, big companies, solo players and the community overall. The biggest issue would be the big companies lacking space. I don't see why any average tribe (5-10 ppl) would need more than just 2-3 claims to build a house, farm, shipyard and tame pen if they are placed well, but I can see that being an issue with the bigger companies. The current system is about as bad as it can be. There is nothing to encourage people to own less land, and there is not benefit in this. Obviously, this has led to griefing, people claiming as much as they possible can. We are talking about entire islands, which of they build on just a few %. There must be something to motivate and encourage companies not to go crazy with the claiming flags. What it would be is up for discussion, but I'm glad different solutions are presented, and I hope to see a change to this very soon.
  16. So my next question would be: Why do you have 2 sea claims? It's not like people will attack you from the sea, because this is PvE. Let me explain you to the core problem here: People are joining the server every day. All territory is taken, and no one is able to build anywhere anymore. There are huge areas along the coast that are claimed, but not used. This is what normal people refer to as greed. There are several ways to deal with this problem. One is presented in this topic. It's a way to encourage people to own less land, which will lead to more room and possibilities for others. Another way to deal with the problem is to remove the claiming system completely, which most likely would lead to people pillaring areas instead. In this case there would need to strict rules resulting in bans for doing this. My numbers are rough. The point here is not to present exact timers for respective amount of flags. The point here is to present a regressive system to encourage people to own less land. To do so there must be some kind of benefit/reward for this, which here is the contesting timer. I personally don't see how one couldn't fit a PvE base, including animal pen, farming plots and a shipyard on 2 claim spots. Maybe you should optimize your placements better?
  17. 3 claims is pretty safe to have, especially if you're more than one. I don't see any reason why any tribe would need upkeep on an area more than 10 claims on a PvE server. Keep in mind: this is just about PvE, not PvP. Do you know how big one claim really is?

  19. This would also be a step in the right direction. I don't know about the tax system, though. I don't think it should exist on PvE at all. Building on someone's 2nd/3rd flag territory would be risky, as I assume they could at any point revoke the rights or modify the taxation, making life harder or impossible for those who have built there. In worst case scenario, the owner would take control over the buildings there. It works on PvP, because you can always turn to a violent solution, but it's not applicable on PvE. It's true that the taxation system is related to this, but I don't think it's a good long-term solution to include taxes in PvE. I've had several ideas and I keep asking myself: How can this be abused or used against someone? Do you have any comments on my idea? Any flaws or something else that needs polishing? As said, the timers are rough numbers here.

  21. Rather just introduce pin codes for smithies, looms etc. You should be able to leave things unlocked too, if you wish.
  22. 10 flags is a very large area. Also quite a lot for 10 people, given that not everyone is online at the same time. Also, the timer can't be three days. I'd be fine with 1-2 flags (depending on the spot) for my 4-man crew.
